State Department Gets Undiplomatic with Russian TV Reporter
By Bradley Klapper

WASHINGTON (AP) U.S.-Russian tensions broke out in undiplomatic fashion in an unlikely place Thursday: the State Department briefing room.
What began with a series of tough, if suggestive, questions from a correspondent for Russian government-funded news ended with department spokesman John Kirby delivering an uncharacteristically severe indictment of Russian military activity in Syria and press conduct.
Kirby also unloaded on the RT television channel and its reporter, Gayane Chichakyan.
"I can't believe that you aren't embarrassed to ask these questions,"Kirby said several minutes into the back-and-forth with Chichakyan, whose questioning has previously prompted sharp if more restrained exchanges."You have to be looking at these questions and almost laughing to yourself, don't you? They're absolutely crazy."
The subject was the ongoing Turkish-Iraqi spat over Turkish military forces in Iraq. Turkey has stationed troops near Mosul since 2014, but the arrival of additional servicemen last week prompted an uproar in Baghdad, forcing Turkey to halt the new deployment.
Chichakyan asked if the U.S. was somehow responsible because it wants nations to send personnel into Syria and Iraq to fight the Islamic State.
Kirby said all U.S. military assistance in Iraq is coordinated with Iraq's government, and any suggestion otherwise is"just a completely baseless charge."
"I don't think it's worth having any more discussions about it,"he said.
But the conversation continued.
When Chichakyan asked why the U.S. was essentially saying,"It's none of our business,"Kirby shot back,"Again, another ridiculous question."He said the U.S. was letting Turkey and Iraq work out their differences so everyone else can focus on fighting IS"which, by the way, the Russians aren't doing."
Washington says Moscow's airstrikes since September have focused on shoring up Syrian President Bashar Assad's government and not, as the Russians claim, with defeating IS.
After Chichakyan demanded to know which of the questions were"ridiculous,"Kirby expanded his critique.
"You can ask whatever you want. ... You can do that here in the United States,"he said."But I don't see you asking those same questions of your own government about ISIL in Syria. And I would really like to see those questions get asked."
Chichakyan told The Associated Press after the briefing,"I am not embarrassed."

Foreign AffairsKing Bibi By Uri Avnery by seagulsntrawler(op): 6:53am On Dec 14, 2015
BINYAMIN NETANYAHU is our prime minister for life.
So it seems. So he evidently believes.
Not only believes. He acts accordingly. To make sure, he has done the two necessary things: (a) eliminate every possible competitor, and (b) surround himself with male and female nincompoops, no one of whom could be considered by anyone a plausible successor. Indeed, the idea that any of this lot could ever become prime minister sends shudders down our spines.
So we are stuck with him for life (at least). Time to face this prospect.
HE IS not the worst. No one ever is. For every bad leader, there is a worse one. (Except Adolf Hitler, perhaps.)
So let us look first at the positive sides of his rule. There are some. (Yes, indeed.)
No. 1: He is not crazy.
Around the world there are several crazy leaders. We have quite a number of crazies in and out of government. Netanyahu is not one of them.
No. 2: He is not irresponsible.
During the last Gaza war, when all kinds of politicians and other demagogues called for him to do all kinds of irresponsible things, such as re-conquering the Gaza Strip, he refused and followed the advice of the army.
(In Israel, for the time being, the army abhors senseless adventures. The top army officers are, as a rule, much less reckless than the politicians.)
One can ask, of course, how we got into this quagmire in the first place. In fact, Netanyahu fits the old definition: A clever person is somebody who knows how to get out of a bad situation which a wise person would never have got into in the first place.
No. 3: He is an effective orator.
That is not a necessary requirement, of course. David Ben-Gurion was a poor speaker, Levi Eshkol was a lousy one. Both were Demosthenes-like compared to Golda Meir, whose vocabulary in Hebrew and English consisted of about a hundred words, badly accented. That was enough for her to convince any audience.
Netanyahu is an accomplished speaker in the opposite sense. He speaks a good Hebrew, he has a baritone voice, his gestures are appropriate. Indeed, one often gets the impression that he has spent hours in front of a mirror to get the delivery exactly right.
Yet he convinces only those who want to be convinced. For discerning listeners, the whole performance is too studied, too perfect. Like his hair, too slick, too perfectly hued white-blue.
(It was disclosed recently that his personal hair-stylist, on the government payroll, earns more than a cabinet minister. Rightly so, I think.)
When Netanyahu speaks to the world as the representative of Israel, he delivers a credible performance. Not brilliant, not very convincing, perhaps, but not shameful either.
MANY PEOPLE, both in Israel and outside, believe that Netanyahu is a total cynic, a man without real convictions, whose only aim is to stay in power forever.
I don't believe that is true.
A cynic without convictions would be far less dangerous. But Netanyahu is not a cynic.
He grew up in the shadow of his father, Ben-Zion, a bitter family tyrant, who was convinced that he did not receive the respect due to him from his academic colleagues and institutions because of his political convictions. Because of this he emigrated temporarily to the US, where Binyamin grew up as an all-American boy.
The father was an ardent extreme rightist. The leader of the Zionist right, the brilliant Vladimir (Ze'ev) Jabotinsky, was far too moderate for him. Ben-Zion specialized in the history of the Spanish inquisition and wrote a weighty work on it, but his colleagues did not accord him the honors that were he believed - his due. He became very bitter.
Binyamin adored his father and considered him a genius, but the father admired his elder son, Yoni, a military officer who fell in the famous Entebbe raid. Of"Bibi"the father had a rather low opinion. He once said publicly that Binyamin could make a reasonable foreign minister, but not a prime minister. In Israel, the foreign office is treated with some disdain. A real he-man aspires to become defense minister.
All this instilled in the young Binyamin a burning ambition to show his dead father that he could indeed make an excellent prime minister. It also formed the ideological base of all his thoughts and actions: the unshakable conviction that the Jews must take possession of"the whole of Eretz Israel"the entire land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan river.
Every word Netanyahu has ever said that contradicts this basic conviction is a blatant lie. But, as the ancient Romans should have said:"Sweet and fitting it is to lie for the fatherland."
WITHIN THIS boundaries, Netanyahu is indeed a cynic. He clings to power, and has no inclination whatsoever to ever give it up.
And, indeed, he is a consummate politician. There is no sign that he respects any of the people he appointed ministers. He seems to have taken a delight in appointing each of them to the job most inappropriate for him or her. The Culture Minister, Miri Regev, a vulgar, primitive, quite uncultured female politician is a supreme example, but most of her colleagues are not much better suited to their jobs.
None of these can endanger his position in the least. Compared to them, he is a towering figure.
In the other parties, inside the government coalition and outside, the situation is not much better. Some of them showed some promise (at least in the polls) but this proved to be short-lived. Moshe Kahlon, the present finance minister, is a nice fellow, but as a national leader he is knee-high. So is Ya'ir Lapid, the former finance minister now in opposition, who firmly believes that fate has chosen him as Netanyahu's successor. His only problem is that few others share this belief.
Much more ominously, the Labor Party (now"Zionist Camp"wink is devoid of any personality who could come even near to Netanyahu's leadership stature. The party leader, Yitzhak Herzog, is a sad disappointment.
Almost all the party functionaries avoid even mentioning the salient national issue: the occupation. They hardly ever utter the dangerous five-letter word: PEACE. Much better to talk about a"political arrangement","final settlement"and such. Blah-blah-blah.
NETANYAHU'S MAIN instrument of rule goes back to ancient Rome (as befits the son of a historian): Divide et Impera.
He is a consummate hate-monger. Jews against Arabs, Oriental Jews against Ashkenazis, religious ones against the secular. (He himself is a non-believer, but the religious of all stripes are his strongest allies.)
Hatred goes with fear. It is an ancient Jewish belief that the whole world is out to destroy us ("but God saves us from their hands", as every Jew declaims on Passover eve). True now more than ever.
The Iranians are out to get us. The Arabs want to wipe us out. The Leftists are worse: they are traitors. It is Bibi, the Only One, who saves us from all of them. God may help a bit.
BUT THE real danger of Netanyahu's reign is his total lack of an answer to Israel's main problem, its existential question: the 130-year war with the Palestinians, and by extension with the entire Arab and perhaps Muslim world. Bound by his father's ideology, he is unable even to contemplate giving up an inch of our holy fatherland. (Like many Israelis he does not believe in God, but believes that God has promised us this land. Actually, God was even more generous and promised us all the land between the Nile and the Euphrates.) Some Bantustan-like disconnected enclaves for the Palestinians why not, as long as we cannot drive them out altogether. But not more. This prevents any effort for peace. It guarantees an apartheid state or a bi-national state with a permanent civil war. Netanyahu knows that very well. He has no illusions. So he has uttered the logical answer:"We shall live forever by the sword". Good Hebrew, terrible statesmanship. Under his rule, Israel will irrevocably slide down the slope towards eventual disaster. The longer his reign, the greater the danger. All in all, Netanyahu is a man without intellectual depths, a political manipulator without real solutions, a man with an imposing front but empty inside. In the meantime, he is great at inventing issues that divert attention from the fateful problem. All of Israel has been consumed for months with the debate about the"natural gas plan"the way of dividing the profits from the natural gas reservoirs discovered in the sea near the shores of Israel. Netanyahu supports with all his might the"plan"that pours the riches into the pockets of a handful of tycoons connected somehow with Sheldon Adelson, his protector (and, some say, his owner).
IN THE meantime, King Bibi"and his highly unpopular royal consort, Queen Sarah'le, can look about with satisfaction. There is no one around who could endanger their unlimited reign ("term of office"seems an inappropriate definition.)
They think about building a royal (sorry, prime ministerial) palace instead of the rather shabby present residence in the center of Jerusalem. All around them there is nothing but a political desert.
I would pray to God to deliver us.
But unfortunately, I don't believe in Him.

Christianity EtcUpdated: 8-year-old Suspended For Saying ‘merry Christmas’ To Teacher by seagulsntrawler(op): 6:25am On Dec 14, 2015
By wmw_adminonDecember 12, 2015
Renee Johnson –Truth Uncensored Dec 11, 2015
The ‘war on Christmas’ continues as a simple well-wishing of ‘Merry Christmas’ has led to big trouble for one third-grade San Francisco girl this week.
Samantha Dawson, an 8-year-old student at Westview Elementary Schoolin San Francisco, CA., was in the school cafeteria Tuesday eating with friends when she was taken to the principal’s office and given a week-long suspension. Her punishment was consequence for saying ‘Merry Christmas’ to her homeroom teacher earlier that day.
Dawson’s teacher, 37-year-old Paul Horner who is an outspoken Atheist, was offended at the students display of Christmas spirit and had staff suspend the young girl for the rest of the week.
“I say ‘Merry Christmas’ to everyone,” the young girl told CBS News. “I didn’t think it would cause so much trouble just for saying a couple little words.”
The girl’s mother, Laura Dawson, 41, was fuming over the issue.
“You don’t traumatize a child who loves to go to school, who wanted to be early every day to school, you don’t make her cry, just for wishing someone Merry Christmas,” she told reporters, holding back tears. “You just don’t do it.”
Reporters spoke with Mr. Horner as he was leaving from school yesterday.
“I warned the children not to bring religion into my classroom,” Horner said. “Maybe Samantha will listen to adults next time.”
At the time of this press release, Westview Elementary Schoolofficials declined to comment, though this was posted on the school’s website:
Once again we had to suspend a student, 3rd grader Samantha Dawson, because she said “Merry Christmas” to her homeroom teacher, who is a proud atheist.
PLEASE, lets learn from this horrible act and not let the the holiday spirit be ruined by the few that confuse church and state.
Happy Holidays everyone!!!

As the correspondent who sent the following item in noted, it looks like someone is trying to muddy the waters here:
School Fires Teacher After Saying Merry Christmas To Atheist Student
Darius Rubics — News Examiner
The ‘War on Christmas’ continues as a simple well-wishing of ‘Merry Christmas’ has led to the termination of a third-grade teacher in San Francisco, California.
37-year-old Paul Horner, who had been a teacher at Westview Elementary Schoolfor 15 years and had no prior disciplinary infractions, was fired by school officials after saying ‘Merry Christmas’ to one of his 3rd grade students. That student, who is an Atheist, found Horner’s well-wishing to be offensive and inappropriate; that is when the student contacted his parents and the principal.
Paul Horner spoke with CBS Newsabout his termination from the school.
“I say ‘Merry Christmas’ to everyone, I don’t mean any harm by it,” Horner said. “I made a mistake and forgot that Westview enforces a strict ‘Christmas-free zone’. I apologized to the boy, his family and my colleagues for my actions, but they still let me go. That job is all I had in life. I don’t know what I’m going to do now.”
The boy’s mother, Sarah Bradley, 32, was fuming over the issue.
“You don’t traumatize an atheist child who loves to go to school, who wanted to be early every day to school, you don’t make him cry, bringing religion into the classroom and wishing him a Merry Christmas like that,” she told reporters, holding back tears. “You just don’t do it.”
Reporters spoke with Mr. Horner on Sunday as he was leaving the grounds of Westview Elementary for one last time.
“Westview had such a great bunch of students and teachers to work with and I’ll really miss all of that,” Horner said. “I love working with kids and trying to make a difference in their lives. I just hope I can find new employment elsewhere as soon as possible; I have bills and a family to support. I guess I’ll just try to learn from this experience and next time keep my Christmas spirit to myself.”
Westview Elementary School officials declined to comment, but did post about the incident on their website:
During the holiday season it can be easy to forget important things like the separation of church and state. As a progressive school, Westview Elementary School is a proud “Christmas Free Zone”.
As some of you may or may not know, we recently had to terminate employment of our third grade teacher Mr. Paul Horner for saying the words “Merry Christmas” to one of our fine Atheist students. What Mr. Horner said to this child was offensive to all religions and belief systems. We here at Westview Elementary School sincerely apologize for Mr. Horner’s uncaring and heartless behavior.

It was made illegal because it is the only economic crop that can compete with the derivative of crude oil such as plastics etc. Its economic benefit are enormous and find application in the making of ropes, degrade able plastics, article of clothing(jeans), etc. It is the only plant that has uniquely identified gender that is male and female. Oil extracts from it has been found to combat cancer in the human body. (CNSNews.com) - The U.S. military conducted a second wave of attacks on (parked) ISIS oil tankers in Syria on Sunday, Nov. 22, but the attack fell short of its goal:
"The goal was to destroy every truck there. They ran out of ammunition before they were able to do that. But the desire was to destroy every single truck there,"said Army Col. Steven Warren, the spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition fighting ISIS.
At a news briefing on Tuesday, Warren played video of the ISIS fuel tankers being bombed or shot with machine gun fire from the air. Warren said all the trucks were targeted, but the video just shows"the good shots that you'd like."
As was the case with an earlier U.S. strike on ISIS fuel tankers, the Americans dropped leaflets warning the truck drivers that an attack was coming, so the tankers were not moving.
Warren called the air strikes"another example of the type of accuracy that we're capable of here in the coalition."
A total of 283 fuel trucks were destroyed by American planes on Sunday:"A bomb would have been from an A-10, and then when you saw the guns, you know, the machine gun fire, that could either have been an A-10 or AC-130 Spectre Gunship."
"It's not a movie where you kind of fly along and just strafe, and you know, the trucks blow up. No, it's -- they struck each truck, or groups of two or three trucks. It is a machine gun, so there is a certain area aspect to it, right? You know, the gunfire isn't laser guided...So it's individual strike a truck, or two or three trucks; move to the next batch, strike them; move, strike; move, strike.
"So the goal was to destroy every truck there. They ran out of ammunition before they were able to do that. But the desire was to destroy every single truck there."
Combined with an earlier U.S. strike on ISIS fuel tankers, the U.S. military has now destroyed 399 of them, but Warren would not say how many are left:"I'm not going to tell you the total number of trucks out there...but we've still got a long way to go on trucks,"he said.
Warren also disputed Russia's recent claim that it had attacked and destroyed 500 ISIS fuel tankers in the"same general region"last week.
"From what we saw, the battle damage assessment they issued seemed to be exaggerated. More than likely the Russian attacks did not produce the results that they claimed it produced."
Warren said the U.S. estimates that Russia destroyed only around 100 tankers.

As for military strength, US is still greater than Russia as at today but if Russia aligns with US enemies, that I can not tell but the truth is that US is gradually becoming friends with its perceived Arab enemies through some Obama policies.

In my assessment, Putin knows that Turkey is a trap for them. He is too smart to know that if he lights common matches in Turkey let alone bomb, America will hide behind the UN and deal with him.

As at today, Russia can not and I repeat can not successfully ignite a world war and Putin knows that. Forget mouth, gun don't shoot itself, humans do.undecided
If you are conversant with the word MAD(mutual assured destruction) then you'd know that it would be unwise for the US to ignore the threat posed by Russia and China.
You are right that this despicable act by Turkey was meant to provoke Russia into acting irrationally, but not in the right context.
It was meant to distract the Syrian, hezbollah, and Iranian armies from taking complete control of the border area between Turkey and Syria, thereby cutting off key supply routes to ISIS and al nusra front. This will greatly undermine the dream of US-NATO to setup a no fly zone on Syrian territory. Their plan is about to go up in smoke.
Putin will fashion out a response to Turkey and at an appropriate time too, and it is very certain will not act irrationally.

It's understood Russia is in the field to support the Assad regime of Syria.
Turkey may soon will drag his country into much deeper conflict with the mighty powerful Russia led by Vladimir Putin, as consequence he may pay heavy price for his stupidity.
Anyone who has really been paying attention knows that Turkey has been supporting ISIS all along. This simply confirms it.
They were shipping weapons to ISIS / DAESH with money from the west from the start. Then when the west realized they had created ISIS / DAESH and it was worse than Assad we sat back and did nothing. Turkey kept funding the "rebels." Now Russia are stopping the illegal
flow of oil to Turkey, they shoot down Russia planes. We see what is really going on now.
It is a wrong and stupid act of provocation by Turkey cos the plane was clearly shot down inside Syrian territory. Erdogan's son owns a company, BMZ that receives and trade in stolen oil from Syria. And Erdogan even called a NATO emergency meeting to make it look as if Russia was the aggressor.

(Patsy, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was 27)
You see, being a patsy means you cannot be arrested and tried in a Court of Law. You cannot be allowed to speak publicly. That would defeat the whole purpose of blaming you for something they did. They will pretend you died resisting arrest. That's when they will take a meat cleaver to your chest. (I should not be flippant here. Tamerlan was arrested alive and subsequently murdered by the police.)
Step Number One: Do not under any circumstances agree to participate in a "drill" designed to test precautions against "a terror attack." No matter how much money they offer, or how much they appeal to your patriotic instincts, this is a"sorry, no-can-do."Also, wherever this "drill" is, make sure you are a hundred miles away.
Step Number Two: Convert to Judaism. Patsies are never Jews. Your local synagogue will provide information on Talmud Torah classes.
(left, patsies do not have to look menacing)
Step Number Three: Patsies can be teenagers. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, right, is 19.
If you are a teenager, or even a child, do not assume you are safe. Babies can rest easy, for now.
Step Number Four: Question your gender. Homosexuality also confers immunity against becoming a patsy. If you are still in school, join a "gay-straight alliance." They will help you with the conversion process.
Step Number Five: If you cannot become a Jew or homosexual, at least establish your liberal bona fides. Let slip that you voted for Barack Obama, love Diane Feinstein, read the New York Times, and watch Jon Stewart and SNL religiously. Put a PBS bumper sticker on your car. Patsies are never liberals.
Step Number Six: Prepare a plan to follow in case they still make you the terrorist. When the bullets are flying, saying "I'm a patsy" won't cut it. You will need a hideout that is better than a boat parked in the backyard.
Step Number Seven: There are cosmetic products that will help you lighten your complexion. Avoid suntans. You should not be mistaken for a Muslim. Your life depends on it.
Step Number Eight: Make burial arrangements in advance. When the public has been incited to believe you are the incarnation of evil, funeral directors will have a hard time accepting your business.
(left, the Patron Saint of Patsies)
Step Number Nine -Study the lives of some of the great patsies in modern history. Lee Harvey Oswald. James Earl Ray, Sirhan Sirhan, Timothy McVeigh. Osama Bin Laden. James Holmes. Adam Lanza. What mistakes did they make that you can avoid? Certainly, one is getting involved with a CIA-FBI front group.
Step Number Ten-Avoid friendly strangers with deep pockets who offer to arrange foreign travel and adventure for you and your friends.
I welcome other suggestions from readers for side stepping this common hazard. Anyone who believes the mass media accounts of these "terror attacks" is also a patsy, as are people who support the West's NWO-inspired aggression. Don't be one.

My brother, the truth is indeed very bitter and one cannot approach the truth without being considered mad by the world. But is that really madness, when the world itself is really sick and mad at the same time?

500 Trucks of crude oil? And they will transfer a fraction of the money got to their subsidiary BH to buy bombs & rifles. Why its do hard to trace & block the path of these funds still gives me concern.
Boko haram has limiltess funds at its disposal and has the backing and support of the French, British, US and possibly fifth columnist Nigerian intelligence services. These factors make recruitment very easy for them and in a region where poverty and poor education is one of the highest in the world, willing recruits are not hard to find. Ghaddafi had to be killed for US "moderate” Islamist to thrive in Africa and for the free flow of weapons.

Obama should have been doing this long time ago. I just don't know why Obama finds it difficult to destroy ISIS completely in the last one year. These terrorists and their allies deserve no mercy. They should be wiped out before they bomb innocent lives again.
Obama is a zionist puppet and has no say whatsoever in the running of the US. ISIS(israeli secret intelligence service) is run by a Jew, and created to destroy all secular countries in the middle east for a greater Israel. Iraq,Libya,Syria, lebanon, iran, china, and russia together with all the central asian countries have been marked for destruction. Why has ISIS not thrown even a fire cracker at Israel but take delight in killing moslems, christians, yazidis, druiz etc in the middle east?

Around 500 fuel tanker vehicles transporting illegal oil from Syria to Iraq for processing have been destroyed by Russia’s Air Forces, the General Staff said.
“In recent years, Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and other extremist groups have organized the operations of the so-called ‘pipeline on wheels’ on the territories they control,”Russian General Staff spokesman Colonel General Andrey Kartapolov said.
Hundreds of thousands of tons of fuel have been delivered to Iraq for processing by trucks and the revenue generated from these illegal exports is the one of the terrorists’ main sources of funding, he said.
The spokesman displayed images showing convoys comprised of hundreds of vehicles transporting oil to back his assertion.
“In just the first few days, our aviation has destroyed 500 fuel tanker trucks, which greatly reduced illegal oil export capabilities of the militants and, accordingly, their income from oil smuggling,”Kartapolov stressed.
The spokesman also said that the Russian military has begun developing proposals for joint military action with the French Navy against the terrorists in accordance with an order by President Vladimir Putin.
“This joint work will begin after the arrival of aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to the Syrian shores,”Kartapolov explained.
Russia has been bombing Islamic State and other terror groups in Syria since September 30 at the official request of country’s president, Bashar Assad.
On Tuesday, Russia’s fleet of 25 long-range bombers joined Su-34, Su-25, and Su-24M warplanes conducting operations in Syria to double the number of airstrikes against the militants.

PoliticsA Most Convenient Massacre What A Difference A Single Massacre Can Make! by seagulsntrawler(op): 12:22am On Nov 19, 2015
By Dmitry Orlov
November 17, 2015"Information Clearing House"- Just a week ago the EU couldn't possibly figure out anything to do to stop the influx of refugees from all those countries the US and NATO had bombed into oblivion. But now, because Paris changed everything, EU's borders are being locked down and refugees are being turned back.
Just a week ago it seemed that the EU was going to be swamped by resurgent nationalism, with incumbent political parties poised to get voted out of power. But now, thanks to the Paris massacre, they have obtained a new lease on life, because they can now safely embrace the same policies that a week ago they branded as fascist.
Just a week ago the EU and the US couldn't possibly bring themselves admit that they are utterly incompetent when it comes to combating their own creationISIS, that isand need Russian help. But now, at the aprParis G-20 summit, everybody is ready to line up and let Putin take charge of the war against terrorism. Lookthe Americans finally found those convoys of tanker trucks stretching beyond the horizon that ISIS has been using to smuggle out stolen Syrian crude oilafter Putin showed them the satellite photos!
Am I being crass and insensitive? Not at allI deplore all the deaths from terrorist attacks in Iraq, in Syria, in Lebanon, and in all the other countries whose populations did absolutely nothing to deserve such treatment. I only feel half as bad about the French, who stood by quietly as their military helped destroy Libya (which did nothing to deserve it).
Note that after the Russian jet crashed in the Sinai there weren't all that many Facebook avatars with the Russian flag pasted over them, and hardly any candlelight vigils or piles of wreaths and flowers in various Western capitals. I even detected a whiff of smug satisfaction that the Russians got their comeuppance for stepping out of line in Syria.
Why the difference in reaction? Simple: you weretoldto grieve for the French, so you did. You were not told to grieve for the Russians, and so you didn't. Don't feel bad; you are just following orders. The reasoning behind these orders is transparent: the French, along with the rest of the EU, are Washington's willing puppets; therefore, they are innocent, and when they get killed, it's a tragedy. But the Russians are not Washington's willing puppet, and are not innocent, and so when they get killed by terrorists, it's punishment. And when Iraqis, or Syrians, or Nigerians get killed by terrorists, that's not a tragedy either, for a different reason: they are too poor to matter. In order to qualify as a victim of a tragedy, you have to be each of these three things: 1. a US-puppet, 2. rich and 3. dead.
Also, you probably believe that the terrorist attacks in Paris were the genuine articlenobody knew it would happen, and it couldn't have been stopped, because these terrorists are just too clever for the ubiquitous state surveillance to detect. Don't feel bad about that either; you are just believing what you are told to believe. You probably also believe that jet fuel can melt steel girders and that skyscrapers collapse into their own footprints (whether they've been hit by airplanes or not). You can certainly believe whatever you like, but here are a couple of easy-to-understand tips on telling what's real from what's fake:
1. If it's fake, the perpetrators are known immediately (and sometimes beforehand). If it's real, then the truth is uncovered as a result of a thorough investigation. So, for instance, on 9/11 the guilty party were a bunch of Saudis armed with box cutters (some of whom are, paradoxically, still alive). And in Paris we knew right away that this was done by ISISeven before we knew who the perpetrators were. And when that Malaysian jet got shot down over Ukraine, we knew right away that it was the Russians' fault (never mind that on that day the Ukrainians deployed an air defense system, and also scrambled a couple of jets armed with air-to-air missiles against an enemy that doesn't have an air force). Note, however, how we still don't know what happened with the Russian jet over Sinai. That case is still under investigationas it should be. If it's real, officials stall for time and urge caution while scrambling to find out what happened. When it's fake, the officials are ready to go with the Big Lie, and then do everything they can to make it stick, suppressing what shreds of evidence can be independently gathered.
2. If it's fake, than you should also expect cute little touches: designer logos for publicity campaigns ready to launch at a moment's notice, be it Je suis Charlie or that cute little Eiffel Tower inscribed in a peace symbol. There weren't any props to go with the Russian jet disasterunless you count that tasteful Charlie Hebdo cartoon of a jihadi rocket having anal sex with an airliner. There might also be a few traditional titbits designed to feed a media frenzy, such as a fake passport found lying next to one of the perpetratorsbecause when terrorists go on suicide missions they always take their fake passports with them. The people who are charged with designing these events lack imagination and usually just go with whatever worked before.
We should certainly expect there to be more fake massacres of this sortwhenever the political situation becomes sufficiently fraught to call for onebecause at this point ready-to-go jihadi terrorist cells are something of a sunk cost and can be deployed very cheaply and effectively. Of course we should grieve for the victims, but there is something far more important at stake than mere human lives, which are, deplorably, becoming cheaper with each passing year. We should grieve for the truth.
