Reston, virginia Ebola Crisis

The Ebola virus continues to strike fear into all who hear about it, and with good reason. This highly contagious disease is nearly impossible to contain, and vaccines have been found to have varying levels of success. Unfortunately, those left untreated often wind up dead less than two weeks following the first symptoms.

So far, the worst outbreaks have yet to reach any major population centers. However, that nearly changed in 1989 when a number of macaque monkeys imported from the Philippines to the US were found to have the virus.

The monkeys were sent to Reston, virginia for lab testing and all of them died suddenly from a suspiciously Ebola-like virus. To make matters worse, blood samples from a number of researchers who had come in contact with the monkeys also tested positive for the virus.

Luckily, after days of panic, it was concluded that the particular strain of Ebola that killed the monkeys didn’t pose any harm to humans. However, the event did illustrate just how easily wide-scale outbreaks could happen, as well as demonstrate just how unprepared we were at the time to deal with such a pandemic.

Education / Re: 7 Cheap Universities In Virginia For International Students by Ojiako93(m): 1:17pm On Aug 15, 2022

The good news is that there are many universities that provide accelerated nursing programs for both international students and students from the United States too. These programs are called accelerated programs or shortened courses, and these courses are available in certain clinical professions such as nursing and allied health professions.

You can take this course and in two years you'll become a registered nurse in the US according to https://www.atlanticride.com/two-year-nursing-degree-program-in-us/

I think it is a good idea.
Education / Re: The Most Educated States In Nigeria – Top 10 by jamahlhillman: 9:56pm On Aug 13, 2022
Hello,
I am a Black American living in Atlanta,Georgia. I desire to relocate to Nigeria, specifically Enugu State where I plan to attend college there as well as humbly learn the indigenous culture. I want to unlearn the western values that myself and several millions have been indoctrinated with here in the Americas. I want to fluently speak Igbo, Marry an Igbo woman, and have several Igbo children; Since I was a young child. I have always been enamored with the continent of Africa. I have always said. I will marry a woman from Africa and re-establish my family there and become a wealthy man of the highest morals, ethics, and values. It is of my opinion that the children of the people who were taken from the motherland should return to remarry back into the fold. Thus, creating wealth for all of us together as one. I am only mentioning the Americas since several Igbo and Yoruba people were sent to the Americas as evident through genetic testing and colonial documents detailing how the Igbo people rebelled against the european colonist on several occasions. Not to mention, I have relatives who did genetic testing and found out recently that they have majority Nigerian ancestry within them. I honestly cannot pin point exactly which ethnic group just yet. I can only guess that it is Igbo because my Great x4 grandfather who came to the present day United States was from either Carolina or virginia. I have read Igbo people came to the virginia,Carolina, and Georgia coasts right around the time he was born. With all of that said, I want to attend the very best school. I like to be challenged. I have been looking at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Lagos, and Lagos State University. If anyone has any information about these universities and the process of international students attending, Please let me know. I will major in Physics just so anyone is curious.

Conclusion

A critical look at the educational system in the country, we could see that Northern part of Nigeria is lagging behind, and it has become a issue for the governments till date. Economically endowed and popular states like Kano and Kaduna are still not able to listed as most educated states. The reason for this backwardness of the Northerners on education is because of the multi population in this areas.

Educational attainment in the country can go a long way to addressing the development of our local communities. This notion was also stressed by Cinda Klickna, President of the Illinois Education Association in a quote, “Every community can attract and retain quality workers, build an economic engine, and increase productivity, but these all rely on a strong focus on education.”

With the country having an ever-increasing population, there is a need to get more than half-educated, so as not to also increase the rate of illiteracy.

So, if you look at the statistics of education in Nigeria, you will see that the state of the plateau is the northernmost

The University of virginia is one of the “Public Ivies,” along with UNC Chapel Hill, the University of Michigan, and the College of William and Mary. These schools, including UVA, offer a world-class education to high-achieving students at a fraction of the cost of a top-tier private school.

UVA, founded in the early 1800s by Thomas Jefferson, has long been recognized as a world-class academic institution, but, like many of its peers, its degree of selectivity has increased rapidly in the last decade. In 2005, the University of virginia accepted 38% of applicants; today, that figure has been cut in half. Out-of-state applicants face an even more difficult road. Given the admissions marathon that awaits you, the goal of this article is to provide those applying to UVA with an idea of:

The Gestapo called virginia Hall "the most dangerous of all Allied spies." They underlined the importance of tracking down the woman with a limp, which was from Hall’s use of a prosthetic leg.

Hall was the first female operative of Britain’s Special Operations Executive to be sent into France, where she worked as an Allied spy. She spied there for three years until she was forced to escape on foot through the Pyrenees Mountains. Hall later requested to be sent back into occupied France as a wireless radio operator, reporting the movements of German troops before she joined the CIA in 1951.

Education / Scholarship Opportunities For Young Learners by MrQuadri: 4:49pm On Mar 31, 2022
Students below 18 years don’t have to wait before benefiting from the following kid’s scholarship opportunities. Even learners in kindergarten can take advantage of this privilege without saving much for college.

Similarly, the young learner’s scholarship doesn’t have many competitions, unlike higher classes that require top grades. If you have a young child, the best way to secure their future is to take advantage of the scholarship opportunities in this write-up.

Note that the privilege is not only for US residents as it depends on the program policy. Standard scholarship opportunities for young learners include;

Doodle4Google
It is a Google-hosted periodic competition for kids across different countries. The program started in the late 1900s as celebrated events include spring beginning, DNA understanding, and laser invention.
In 1998, the popular Google “doodle” was by Lawrence E. Page and Sergey Brin to assist the system in case it fails during the Burning Man Festival which they attended.

Students from twelfth grade and below should submit their doodle, and the winner gets displaced on the Google homepage with a cash prize of $30,000 for preferred college sponsorship. Other winner prizes include; a Chromebook, digital tablet, Wacom, and technology grant $100,000 for school.

Previously, the first position prize was college sponsorship($30,000), a technology grant worth $50,000, a trip to Google’s headquarters, and some tech hardware. Common regions eligible for the competition include; Alaska, Maine, virginia, Utah, Washington, Arizona, Ohio, Delaware, Oregon, Texas, etc.

Other countries outside the US that participate in the competition include; UAE, India, Japan, Honduras, America, Columbia, Brazil, Yemen, Argentina, among others. Parent/teacher can help students mail their doodle with the entry form after completion in .jpg or .png format.
They can create with preferred material during design. For entry, download the form as the artist should provide insight into their drawing. An adult can fill other aspects in the young one’s stead. Judging is by artistic skill, creativity, communication theme.

In addition, candidates’ classification is on their grade class as a finalist is in the state and national levels.

Action for Nature Eco-Hero Award
Non-profit US-based organization Action For Nature(AFN) helps reward young ones as they take steps to solve global environmental problems. Candidates for the scholarship are between 8-16 years worldwide, and they contribute significantly to creative ecological projects. The prize includes; certification, public recognition, and cash prize.

Ensure to check the application guidelines to know eligibility. If you know any young students that might fit for the program, swiftly advise them to enroll as it would build their portfolio.
Questions young learners should answer before filling out the form include;

* Is there interest/experience in preserving the world?
* How to teach others to keep the environment protected?
* Do I do environmental research projects?
If the reply to the above questions is positive, then apply for this scholarship and be a role model to others. An expert panel across fields like biology, education, environmental science, etc., judge applicant based on their experience and interest. The principal purpose of the program is to encourage young learners to nurture and protect the environment while they achieve their personal goals.

Intel International Science and Engineering Fair
The program aims to improve science literacy, research, and expansion. The primary sponsor, a non-profit organization, understands the vital role of scientific advancement in human existence, so they educate and inspire young learners to achieve desired objectives.

Since its publication in early 2000, the 920 pages book has received numerous positive reviews from exciting readers. Over the years, it has contributed to learners' cognitive development and enabled easy assimilation in simplified terms.
A review by educationist Stephanie Al Otaiba, Ph.D., shows this material is a valuable resource for training teachers and other individuals in the Professional Learning Communities. She says, "It has a similar standard with other top teacher reading materials with much insight into accomplishing learning goals.
Aside from being a top-notch resource for teachers, students find the material thoughtful as there are few negative reviews about the book. Below is a review on how Multisensory teaching of basic language skills helps educators excel in their field;

The Author
Judith R. Birsh, Ed.D
Judith is certified by the Qualified Instructor (Q.I) and Certified Academic Language Therapist(CALT). She believes teachers hold an essential role in a child's learning, so they should be well informed and prepared.
In her words, "teachers are effective instruction for dyslexia and reading. Judith's hypothesis began in the mid-1900s after she met an 18 years old student that reads poorly, and the learner was her first student.
This quest for answers prompts further studies as she attains Masters and doctorate degrees from Columbia University. During her masters, Judith studied remedial reading, then a doctorate in language & reading.
After her training completion with Aylett R. Cox in Texas, Judith is a certified therapist and QI(Qualified Instructor). Then, she founded courses that are useful in the Learning Disabilities Program.
After retirement in 2000, Judith committed herself to teacher preparation by editing three different editions of her book (Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills). During the fourth edition adjustment, she involves the expertise of Suzanne Carreker, who is also a doctorate holder.
On several occasions, Dr. Birsh gives consultation to public and private institutes, writes published articles, and works with exceptional students. In addition, she receives awards from numerous reputable organizations, including International Dyslexia Association, among others.

Suzanne Carreker, Ph.D
In 2015, Suzanne became a member of Lexia Learning as Educational Content Lead. The role involves spearheading curriculum design for adolescents struggling with reading.
Interestingly, Suzanne spends more than two-decade at a Houston nonprofit organization (Neuhaus Education Center). After co-editing the fourth Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills edition, she was a fellow recipient of the International Dyslexia Association Award to mark her excellence and commitment to dyslexia learning.
Note that aside from the significant contribution of Judith and Suzanne, others that contribute to the success of this educational material include; Kay A. Allen(M.Ed), virginia W. Berninger(Ph.D), Nancy Cushen White(Ed.D), Susan H. Blumenthal(Ed.D), etc.

Pros
* The material is a great educational resource.
* It focuses on students experiencing reading difficulty, e.g., ADHD, dyslexia, etc.
* The book is available on numerous e-commerce platforms.
* It contains in-depth information about the impact of language development on student learning.
* The book is excellent material for elementary teachers that want to teach reading.

Cons
* The print material is small with no picture.
* It is expensive
* There are zero research reports to back up the book strategies

Content
Get a copy of this book if you would like to learn about the multisensory teaching approach. It is an effective instructional materialhttps://www.educram.com/suitable-instructional-materials-for-special-students/ across global universities and colleges. In addition, the text helps prepare educators on how to use evidence-based techniques to improve learners struggling with language skills in elementary or high school.

The content provides information on how teachers can structure Literacy instruction to improve learning. Aside from learning language, it is a suitable material for successful class planning, assessment, and understanding students experiencing learning disabilities.
For more than two decades, the book remains among the best resources for teacher professional development as it gets educators more compassionate towards students' success and attaining learning objectives.
It is a recommended material for every classroom instructor. Similarly, it provides guidelines on technology's importance to learning and student-friendly features like chapter keypoint, skill assessment, case study, etc.

Conclusion
This book covers math learning disabilities, vocabulary instruction, oral development, executive function, spelling, language fluency, composition, and others.
As earlier reiterated, every student and educator needs a copy of Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills for better language comprehension. In case of any suggestion or inquiry about the topic or material, kindly drop a comment below.

Education / Re: Family Annahilators (family Exterminators) by dominique(f): 2:22pm On Mar 15, 2022
TheSourcerer:
The Anomic Family Annihilator Anomic Family Annihilators see the family as an extension of their own success. So if the success eludes the family eg bankruptcy or a public scandal, the family is no longer serving this function. Example: John List killed his mother, wife and three children to hide the fact that he had financial problems.

John List was an outwardly normal and successful father. A Sunday school teacher and Boy Scout troop leader, List was a strict disciplinarian who insisted his children follow extremely rigid rules.

On November 9, seemingly out of the blue, List shot his mother Alma (above her left eye), his wife Helen (in the side of the head), and two of his children in the back of their heads; he then shot his oldest child, a son, several times in the chest and face. He then left the murder weapon alongside their carefully laid-out corpses. List had methodically devised a plan so that the bodies would not be discovered for quite a while, cancelling newspaper, milk, and mail delivery to his home in the days leading up to the murder. He then called the children’s schools to say that the family was going to visit a sick relative out of town. By the time authorities discovered the bodies, List had vanished without a trace.

Local law enforcement officials had essentially given up looking for List when the television show America’s Most Wanted began airing in the late 1980s. After a segment about the List murders aired on May 21, 1989, calls began flooding in. Although most of them proved to be unhelpful, one viewer claimed that John List was living in virginia under the alias Robert Clark.

Indeed, List had assumed a false identity, relocated to the South, and remarried. In 1989, he was returned to New Jersey to face charges for the death of his family. The following year, he was convicted of five counts of murder and received five consecutive life sentences. He died in prison in 2008.

He killed his family in 1971 and wasn't caught until after almost 2 decades in 1989. He wanted to plead temporarily insanity (like they all do) but the plea was thrown out. You can't be insane and meticulously plan the deaths of your entire family like that, from getting a fake id, to writing to his children's schools that they won't be around for a month. He went to his youngest son's soccer practice to pick him up and told his coach that they're traveling for a month, poor boy got home to see the corpses of his mum, brother and sister and his father shot him before he could process what was going on. He cancelled all their newspaper, mail and milk subscriptions. In essence, nobody looked for him and his family until over a month later, by then he was living in another state with another identity. So much for temporary insanity.

You should do this story of this teenage boy that shot and killed his parents, siblings because he couldn't stand them. His elder sister survived against all odds despite being shot 3 times. Also this Canadian girl that met this punk at a concert and got drawn into this gothic lifestyle. Her parents obviously didn't like her new look and lifestyle and were constantly nagging her to change. She complained to her punk boyfriend and the only solution he could come up with was to murder her parents and they did just that. The most painful part of their madness was the killing of her little brother who was sleeping peacefully in his room. They should have just left him alone as the boyfriend didn't even know there was a little boy sleeping upstairs. She had to tell him that there's still one more person to take out. She went to his room, pecked him on his cheek and forehead and went on to stab him multiple times. They're both serving life sentences now.

Education / Re: Family Annahilators (family Exterminators) by TheSourcerer: 8:22am On Mar 07, 2022

Education / Studies And Research On Cohorts by Divinwac(m): 12:47pm On Mar 01, 2022
Cohort studies are based on a group of people's shared traits. Cohort studies are similar to longitudinal studies in that the cohort study's target population has some features with the longitudinal study's target population. Any element, such as age, occupation, marriage, education year, fertility behavior, or other demographics, might be used as a common trait. A cohort study is comparable to a cross-sectional or longitudinal study in that it may be done in the same way. A cohort study is comparable to a cross-sectional study in that it investigates a cross-section of a population with similar cohort characteristics just once. When a cohort business administration study is carried out in the same way as a longitudinal study, the target population is researched many times, with the sample size in the target population varying each time but the cohort characteristics remaining the same.
Medicine, social science, psychology, marketing, commerce, business, and the environment are just a few of the sectors that employ cohort studies. Cohort studies are more relevant since they can be retrospective or prospective.

Examples

The following are some examples of cohort studies:

In a cohort research, the effect of the most recent hepatitis A vaccine on the health of a group of children was explored.

Examine the consequences of pollution on virginia's existing population, with an emphasis on respiratory health concerns.

From 2000 to 2005, researchers in McLean investigated the influence of fast food intake on obesity on teenage females.

From 2000 to 2010, researchers looked studied the frequency of intestinal cancer in adults who ate a vegetarian or non-vegetarian diet.
This research looked at the long-term impact of smoking on lung cancer

Cohort studies that look backward

Retrospective cohort studies are performed to determine how frequently a sickness or illness occurs and what causes it. They're especially valuable since the results of these research may be utilized to anticipate future events. The fundamental issue with these investigations is that the researcher's ability to maintain the investigation's credibility is limited. The researcher must work with the data he has, and he can't be certain that other elements aren't impacting the situation or problem.

Retrospective cohort studies in medicine give essential information at a minimal cost. The researcher's failure to get first-hand knowledge, however, casts doubt on the legitimacy of these findings.

Cohort studies will be done in the future.

A prospective cohort study looks at the current state of the population and offers predictions for the future. The audience is tested before the program or treatment is implemented, and then another test is done after the program or treatment is implemented. The researcher keeps uncontrollable influences at bay. Because the researcher has more control over the auditing investigation, these studies are more reliable than retrospective cohort studies. Although some medical and psychological research take years to complete, the information they provide is vital to the broader public. To preserve the study's validity, such investigations are frequently done on a large sample.
