Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by kingonyi9: 10:21am On Mar 08
Dsquare2017:
Caution: very, very, very, long post alert!!!!
Good day everyone in the house. I’ve been a silent reader, but I have greatly benefited from this thread and decided to give feedback on my journey so far. Thanks to the likes of Hotstepper, candybright, omobendel, and others (abeg forgive me if I no mention you, you are still acknowledged, please chop your accolade!) who were there to give kind guidance all the way. So, I would talk about my experience in stages. I know it’s very detailed but then I’m trying to cover whatever question you may have to ask me. For those who are not patient to read it
all, here are the highlights so far:
• Visa Application was online. Applied in September and approved in December 2018. Application was done before my wife was pregnant, so it was tourism visa.
• Accommodation was in an Airbnb for 10 weeks
• Hospital selected was Humber River Hospital
• Doctor spoken with was Doctor Ted Kosalka (didn’t require any referral)
• Point of Entry was quite easy though carried around to several desks. No unusual question or suspicion.
• Fees (these are the ones I have gotten so far) are as follows:
o Doctor’s fee: 2500 (both vaginal and CS)
o Pediatrician fee: 500 (both doctor and pediatrician fee paid at doctor’s office)
o Epidural: Doctor wasn’t too sure but said it’s about 1000 and will be paid on the day of delivery if required
o Hospital stay per night 3505 (mother and baby)
o Laboratory: 95(blood work) and 28(urine analysis)
o Ultrasound: 82
o Total: 7710 (Paid 6710 so far. Delivery day will determine the epidural cost)
Now to the details in stages.
Visa Application:
The vfs office Abuja was the Visa application center we used for the visa application. We applied for the visitor’s visa online on September 12, 2018. We initially intended to use it solely for tourism. Biometrics was requested for my wife in September 13, 2018 (I had already had my biometrics done in 2014 when I got my first Canadian visa). Passports were requested in November 19, 2018 and visas were issued in December 19, 2018 in London, England. Validity was till 2022 (around the time our passport was to expire). We intended to use visa for tourism in July 2019. However, my wife took-in in February 2019. Plans had to change since it did not make sense for use to arrive in Canada in July with a 5 months pregnancy and attempt to convince the border officer that we are not there for birth. That was how we decided that our baby would be born in Canada. Now I had no idea about what needs to be done for this to happen. So, I decided to make research and ask question. I was initially looking for an agent to help me do all of it. However, after I asked a colleague who had his children in USA how he did it, he directed me to nairaland, and then I realized that I don’t need an agent for this. That was how my search for this thread started. I was so anxious that I wanted to immediately ask all my questions at once. However, I noticed that those who asked were directed to read the thread from the beginning. So, I did the same. I didn’t really read it word for word but took note of experiences that relates to my situation. I saved several of those experiences which were helpful. And it’s true, most of the questions people ask here, have already been answered in previous posts, so for the newcomers, please read the thread from the beginning. Finally, my advice on visa application is to apply before you are pregnant so that you can apply as a tourist. The visa can last for as long as 10 years depending on the expiry date of your passport. So, don’t wait till you are pregnant to apply, just apply for it and get it. You are not required to make the journey after being issued the visa, so you can keep it till you are pregnant
Travel Preparation:
So, with the information I had gathered from the thread, I started making travel arrangement. For accommodation, first, neither my wife nor I have family or close friends to live with in Canada. Second, we actually needed an entire place to ourselves for the advantage of privacy and to be able to bring in visitors if necessary. Third, I needed to find a hospital first before making a final decision on accommodation, so as to make access to hospital facilities easier. So, I was on the internet every now and then looking for hospital and finding doctors. Over 90% of doctors phones go on voicemail and even when voicemails are dropped they don’t call back. However, I managed to get the cost of hospital fees for some hospitals such as St. Michael, Scarborough general, Humber River, and Lakeridge hospital. But getting doctors was the most difficult task. Eventually though I was able to get Dr. Ted Kosalka at Humber River Hospital. I spoke directly with him after his secretary handed me over to him, and he told me to expect to spend between 7000 and 8000CAD for my delivery. He also mentioned that doctor’s fee is 2000CAD for vaginal delivery and 2500CAD for CS. That money will be paid on the second visit. First antenatal visit is 120CAD and subsequent visit is 60CAD. Pediatrician fee is 500CAD and lab test is between 100 – 170CAD. I told him that I don’t have a referral from a family doctor, and he said there was no need for me to get referral. The hospital itself mentioned that hospital stay is 3505CAD per night (2680CAD for mother and 825CAD for baby) I made an oral appointment with the secretary for my wife’s first visit.
With Hospital and Doctor secured, it was time to book accommodation. I was already in discussion with a Nigerian who lives in Whitby, Ontario - one Mr. Folorunso (whom I found his contact on this thread) for accommodation. He had an entire basement that he rents at a very good price. Lakeridge hospital is also very close to his house. However, while Lakeridge hospital’s prices per night was reasonable, I was unable to get any doctor from Lakeridge hospital to answer my calls and the hospital itself said I have to get a referral. Though I would have loved to stay in the man’s house since he’s Nigerian and would understand things from a Nigerian point of view, I had to turn down the accommodation since the place was a little far from Humber river hospital which I eventually decided to use. So, I was back in search for accommodation. I finally got an Airbnb for 70 nights (10 weeks) in York, Ontario which was only about 10 mins drive to the doctor’s office, and about 15mins drive to the hospital. I also got return flight tickets booked as well.
Point of Entry:
Ok so I was a little scared of what will happen at POE because my purpose of visa application was only tourism. So I sent a mail to the Canadian High commission in Abuja in April 2019 to inform them of the change of intent…………… no reply. That got me even scarier. I then figured out that since the visas were issued in London, England, I would send the London office the mail. So I did. Unfortunately, I received an automatic reply that they don’t attend to visas inquiry. So I gave up, but printed the letter I mailed to them as evidence that I did not keep my intention hidden. As God would have it, I received a response one week later from the Canadian High commission in Lagos as a reply to the one I sent to London office. They confirmed that the visas were issued to me and my wife and that I only have to prove to the border officer that I have enough funds to cover the cost of delivery. The joy of that alone was more than the joy of getting visa approval. I immediately printed the letter as evidence.
We took the flight to Toronto, through Frankfurt germany. Come and see where village people wan follow person cross border..lol. While boarding the flight from Frankfurt to Toronto, an African officer(his accent was not Nigerian though. Seems like he’s from some other African country) who was making checks on passports and boarding passes immediately started questioning us as if we are already at Canadian immigration and he is a CBSA. What’s your purpose of travelling to Canada? (Tourism and birth) Do you have 10000 dollars?(yes) Have you paid for your hospital fees and doctor’s fees already? Where are the receipts? (I have not paid because when I called the doctor….) No no no doctor is a private person, I need to see what you have paid to the hospital, the hospital is what is for the government. (Sir, I also called the hospital and I was told that I have to be in the country first….) No no no sir, that’s not how it works. The procedure is that you have to pay before you get there. Just stand here sir. I have to call the CBSA for you. (Okay, I’ll wait here)
Chaiiii, black man! Black man! Who do us this kain thing? So tey you wan pour sand for your own brother garri? Well after keeping us standing for about 20 mins, he came and showed us pictures of our passport and visa he has taken and that he spoke to the CBSA and that though the procedure is that we have to make payment first, he was able to convince them to let us board the flight. (For my mind I said this one now wan form say he speak on our behalf. Instead of him to acknowledge say he don fall hand and find out the correct procedure, he wan use African sense.) Anyway I thank God say God pass them
So we took the flight and arrived in Toronto International Airport. As soon as we got of the airplane door, some officers were there checking passport. They asked us what’s our purpose of coming to Canada, and we told them we came for tourism and to give birth. He directed us to another of his colleague who asked that we produce two forms of ID. I gave her passport and Nigerian driver’s license. She looked through and asked when the due date is. We told her and then she asked about the food items we were carrying. Then she let us go. We got to immigration and a lady there asked us what’s our purpose of coming to Canada. We told her same thing and she asked for the due date and how much we have on hand. (she didn’t ask to see though). She then directed us to another queue to see another immigration officer.
We eventually met an old man who is CBSA. He asked us our purpose of coming to Canada. We told him the same thing and he asked when is the due date, which hospital we were using, our doctor’s name, if we were on insurance or are cash patients, an estimate how much we have (he didn’t asked to see though), what my occupation is as well as that of my wife, when we planned to leave Canada, and other questions I can’t remember. He then asked if we were sure to leave on date of departure. We said we hope so. Then he added 11 more days to it as our maximum date of departure on the stamp. He gave my wife a document that she should hold on to it, as it would be required when we return. The document contained details that shows that we were not just there for tourism but to also give birth. The name of the doctor and hospital was there in the document. He also advised us to try to apply for the baby’s birth certificate and social insurance number (SIN) before we leave Canada. He told us to be sure it’s the right form we fill for it otherwise it can create problems for us. Generally, the man was extra nice. And that’s it – we were in!

Hospital/Doctor’s Bills
Got to Doctor Ted Kosalka’s Office (we had booked an appointment over the phone back in Nigeria). Front desk lady was quite nice and welcoming and asked if it was first time. Told us first visit is 120CAD and subsequent visit is 60CAD. Paid for the first visit(they accept cash only) and waited to see the doctor. Doctor outlined all bills required. Said Doctor’s fee is 2500CAD (both for vaginal or caesarean section. He said it’s best we pay full so that they wouldn’t have to ask for more money in case it turns out to be a CS). Pediatrician fee is 500CAD. Hospital fee is 3505CAD both for mother(2680CAD) and baby(825CAD) per day. If needed, Epidural fee or other pain management fee can be paid. He wasn’t too sure of Epidural fee but said it’s around 1000CAD. He said Doctor and Pediatrician’s fee is paid there in his office in cash (3000CAD). Hospital fees are paid at the hospital (Humber River Hospital) at the cashier’s office. Then we should go to the 4th floor at Humber River Hospital where the birthing unit is and see those at the registration for further information of what we need to bring along for birthing. He said hospital fees has to be paid well in advance and if possible, we should pay it that day. Also, doctor’s fees can be paid that day, but if not, we can pay it on our next appointment in two weeks. After checking my wife vital signs and doing a scan with a mini scanning machine, he confirmed baby’s ok, but we still need to do a full ultrasound. He gave us referral to laboratory and ultrasound which were in the same building as his office. Laboratory was for blood work (95CAD) and Urine analysis (28CAD). Lab accepted card payment. Ultrasound accepted only cash payment (82CAD).
Then we went to the hospital to make payments. Went first to the 4th floor and the lady at the reception said we were supposed to call first and book an appointment since she doesn’t normally attend to walk-ins. Any way she said we were already here and gave us two forms to fill at home which were basically birth preferences and a pre-operative anesthetic questionnaire. She said we should be sure to bring both forms on the day of delivery and then directed us to the ground floor where the cashier’s office is. We got there and made payment for the first 24hrs of stay for both mother and baby. Got all my receipt and kept them.
So, this has been my journey so far. I would update you guys when the rest of it is over. And I am confident that the God that saw us through the process up until this moment, we see us through to the end.
bros I’m coming to this your wonderful write up , can I get Dr Ted number want to use him and the hospital .

Hello everyone.

Please I just got update that my medicals was passed yesterday so things are coming along fine.

However, I'll be relocating from Nigeria end of next month to Estonia in Europe to do my Masters.

Am I supposed to update IRCC or anything? I was thinking of how I'd send my passport when PPR comes (the closest vfs centre I can see from Estonia is in Russia lipsrsealed.) when it occurred to me I might need to update IRCC. But in any event, am I supposed to update IRCC that I've changed my location at this point in time or wait?

Thank you.

You should update IRCC when you move. You can send your passports to any VAC......doesn't have to be Russia: there's France, germany, Poland etc See page 1 FAQs 3 and 44

Alot of people always point accusing fingers at agent, forgeting that some of these applicants themselves have criminal intent. I remember last year when i was in the midst of someone who was traveling , and a conversation came up about one of his friends, then we got talking and asked him about his travel plans. Inbetween, he said something like he was preparing some legal and police report to withdraw his passport from vfs.

This one, there was no agent. The applicant himself falsified documents and applied for a visa. This is just one out of many cases, but when anyone want to talk, they will say Agent, as if they were not part of it.

With due respect to the previous respondent, Ashiri , and others, I just tot it was necessary to rely this here, no intent to undermine or disrepute whatever post that was earlier sent.

Just to add, we know alot of people usually want the services of an agent because one major reason, which is bank statement or documents. When applicants cannot present or tender required documents for their visa applications, this is where we usually see instances where forgery becomes an option.

However, systems has changed and the embassies are even more smarter and equipped to handle these re occuring incidences.
what we should encourage people to always to do, is to take time to build their travel inventories such as financial status, documentations, gather requisite informations via their sub platforms about applications such as vfs and maybe nairaland. You can send mails if you need info.

This can go along way to reduce the cases, because when people talk about visa rejections or denials , especially for France , germany and they add it to the decisions" Information regarding documents provided could not be verified" . Like a norm for most of them, it shows the level of distrust and disbelieve with whatever document you submit to these embassies, thereby making certain visas very difficult to attain, even when your intentions are genuine.

Lastly, the word agent is big. Because it cut across many professions, the perception that all agent are same is not correct. If you ever met a genuine and reliable travel consultant, you did find yourself very lucky.

There alot of honest "agent" out there.

Goodluck guys.

Thank you.

Good point. You’re right

Are you sure you are not being scammed? If you are applying through an agent, then chances are, it is either you will be scammed, and/or fake documents slipped into your documents when submitted to the embassy. Now before I advise you further, in a bid to determine if you are not being scammed, please answer the following question.

1. Will you do finger-printing? if yes, where? Mind you, you can only do fingerprints at the embassy or at vfs.
2. Which documents did the agent ask you to bring?
3. Did he guarantee that the visa is certain and 100%?
4. Is he helping you with bank statements or any other documents? mention it.

I live in the Netherlands, just one hour to Belgium, and also similar to germany, I have been to both countries many times and have families there even. I know how it works there. Please answer the above questions and I can advise you further.

hello sir, pls I will like to ask u some very important question. pls let me know wen u re free
Travel / Re: General-german-student-visa-enquiries Part 8 by MrAAA2: 2:42pm On Dec 22, 2022
The embassy of germany in different countries has made the clear that you should not send any enquiry to them asking about the status of your application after interview UNTIL it exceeds a specified window which they usually tell you after interview depending on your type of visa.
The so called tracking is fostered by official agents like vfs in certain countries excluding Nigeria and this is because they are approved agents but still cannot provide any status.

What is visa status after interview? Possibly:
1. Pending
2. Incomplete documents (which an applicant usually know on day of interview or couple of days after the interview by email)
3. Decision (which you usually receive as email about 5 weeks after interview depending on number of applicants, could be shorter or longer). This is also erroneously known as approval email, denied visa applicants also receive this same email.
4. Approved/denied (usually when you are asked for health insurance and possible travel dates).

I still argue that it is debatable and unlikely that there is an official way to track your status, everything is a function of time. The response is always, your application is receiving the necessary attention and you will be informed of decision by email and what follows next.

Who has successfully tracked his appointment date here?
Who has successfully tracked his application status after interview here?

Except for general response of "wait, be patient, we are working on it, refrain from enquiry on the status of your application... "?

Forget all these men of God and their scams...They are just gamblers.

Trust in yourself and move on.

If you had gotten the visa, you would have worshipped the pastor as a true man of God. That is how religion work. Out of 100 people you tell “All will be well” , 30 will experience turnaround not necessarily because of the prayer, the remaining 70 that experience failure you tell them God knows best. The successful 30 will give testimony and draw another 100 people to the church and the cycle continues. Religion is truly the opium of the masses. There is always an answer for every situation.

Good question. Personal Assistants to God will say “God knows best” or “ “He should wake up at 12pm to do midnight prayer and see God work wonders”. or “Every disappointment is a blessing” or “join NSPPD daily prayer”. Meanwhile some atheists are billionaires. Issorait!!!!

My whole life I have left this country thrice... birthed in france (story for another day)

Now when I saw things were about falling apart I decided to run to germany... noted
: money wasn't the issue then but I was denied. . Tried SA was granted but I had to consult (by consult went to a prophet) he said why I was rejected for germany was because I was living a wayward life. That I should put SA on hold and try Sweden(got no one in SA but I do have folks in Sweden)

Na so I enter better fasting.. shanked all the so called wayward life. Had to move down to the church sef make temptation no get the best of me lol

No embassy swedish embassy then you have to go submit your documents at ikoyi vfs. .

The day I was suppose to pick up my visa ... Bro I was denied again. . Nearly ran mad.. and thus time money done finish. .

Went to the prophet told him the outcome

He said
"Take heart my son God knows best for everything there is reason"

I just jejely waka comot after he was done with prayers head to the nearest bar got my soul filled

Really eh story too much. .

Thank you so much for your reply, it was so helpful. When did you submit ?

24 calendar days for Berlin vfs from passport send off to Passports/COPR received.

Berlin vfs will send to VO in Vienna. There is actually no VO in germany.

Sent through DHL on day 1, Berlin vfs received on day 3 but did not send to VO Vienna until day 12! VO Vienna returned to Berlin vfs on day 19. App approved and COPR issued on day 19. DHL pick up initiated on day 20. DHL picked up from vfs on day 22. DHL package arrived on day 24. I can't say if the Berlin vfs delay is normal or if it was just me.

I wondered why people didn't just use Vienna vfs until I saw their transmission fee..... it's x 3 of Berlin vfs's!

Once your waybill shows DHL has dropped off at any vfs, immediately start contacting them for the vfs tracking ID.

Thank you for always availing yourself to help others. I have only 12 days to stay in New York before returning to germany. I hope the time would be enough even if I send it to LA. Anyways, I have until 13th of September to do this. If it's not possible in America, upon my return, I would send directly to vfs Düsseldorf.

Its my pleasure always!

You can send to any vfs all the over the world. The best approach would just be to contact them first to find out about their requirement.

Yes, I agree since you are spending less than two weeks in USA so you don't get stocked.

Big Congrats!

Yes, you can submit it for stamping in the USA. You can estimate 2weeks to have it stamped and returned to your US address.

The requirement and style of submission in the United States is slightly different . You would need to send an e-mail to:
info.canny@vfshelpline.com to advise you on the requirements.

VAC (USA) also has a platform where you can chat with an agent online - You would need to consider the time zones as regards their business hours. see link below:

https://visa.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/can/book-an-appointment

Click on webchat to chat them.

NB: Since you would be staying in USA temporarily, plan to send to Los Angeles for a faster response and don't forget to have your biometrics slip handy.

Safe trip!

As at the time I got PPR, info on this thread alluded to vfs germany being one of the more responsive. Followed the directions provided on here and on the vfs site to compile the required documentation.

June 7th: Drop-off DHL HQ for vfs germany
June 9th: Delivered to vfs germany

No acknowledgement whatsoever from vfs about receipt so I started to worry about the status of things and sent a couple of emails. Got generic/template replies.

June 21st: Profile update email from IRCC (Counterfoil generated June 20th)
June 21st: Decision envelope received at vfs germany
June 22nd: DHL pickup initiated
June 24th: Decision envelope collected by DHL

Took 3 weeks from drop-off to delivery.

Many thanks to all the regular contributors. Got most of the needed info by reading and searching through the various parts. (A couple 100 pages left to catch up on the Living in Canada thread :p)

He was getting update regularly. When he got mail that it is ready for pick up

You'll forward the pick up mail to the Dhl officer attending to you when you sent passport, he or she will turn give you a form to fill, and send u waybill via your email, make payment as instructed by the dhl officer. Forward waybill, pick up mail to these emails with an authorization letter. This authorizes you chosen courier to pick up your package from vfs germany.
info.canger@vfshelpline.com, Interpost.canber@vfshelpline.com

I hope this helps.

That is the amount here.

Is there a formal authorization letter I should get from vfs? Because it seems the authorization form they have online is for personal pickup not Courier pickup. Or is this an authorization email you sent them?

Applying for a Denmark Schengen Visa from Nigeria
If you are a citizen of Nigeria, you will need to apply for a visa to be able to enter and stay in Denmark.

Visa applications must be submitted to vfs Global in Abuja and Lagos. Your application will be sent to the Danish Embassy in Abuja.

The embassy processes visa applications within 15 days. This can be extended to 45 days if further processing is required. You should apply well in advance. You may apply up to 6 months before your trip.

Please note, that the embassy has a limited weekly quota of 50 applications, so early booking with vfs is recommended in order to secure a visa before your travel date.

Types of Schengen visas offered at vfs Global in Nigeria

There are different types of visas available and the one you need to apply for depends on the reason you are traveling to Denmark. Make sure you apply for the correct one.

Visiting family of friends
Long-stay visa – for over 90 days for the purposes of:

Work and residence

Family reunification with non-EU citizens
You can choose to have a single or multiple entry visa.

A single entry visa means that you can enter Denmark once only. When you leave, your visa will become invalid.

If you collect your documents in person, take the receipt issued by vfs Global and your ID.

The decision is either:

Approved – in which case you will receive your passport with a visa sticker. It is your responsibility to check that the information on your visa is correct. If not, you should tell vfs Global or the Danish Embassy immediately

Refused – in which case you will receive a refusal letter with your passport, explaining the reason behind the refusal. The letter also gives information about appealing the decision

Reasons for a rejected application include:

You have overstayed on a visa previously – If this has happened in the past, it could affect your chance of getting a visa in the future
Passport was issued more than 10 years ago – Your passport needs to have been issued in the last 10 years. If not, you need to get a new one before applying for a visa
Fake documents – Do not attempt to provide fake documents as the embassy will find out and you won’t get your visa
Documents Required
You will find document checklists on vfs Global’s website, so you should take a look at them before applying. Documents for each type of visa as different. If you fail to submit everything, your application could be refused. You should also prepare photocopies as well as providing the original documents, so don’t forget to do that too!

Documents include:

Daybour1:

Good day people.

Please I need your urgent help. I got ppr yesterday, aor July 2019.

I want to submit my passport today and I want to get it back early enough. Please what visa office do you recommend I send to.

Thank you.

AOR July 2019?!!! Congrats ! For passport submission, try vfs Accra, Cairo, germany, Kenya, SA, Dubai (the last 3 are less popular compared to the others, I think).

Are you able to share your timeline or any recent updates before your PPR?
