Was listening to John obi Mikel on radio this morning and began to wonder the science that has helped how a naija-born and brought up to speaks like an oyinbo man. What is really the changing factor where your friend whom grew up in the hood travels out to an European country, stays for a couple of years and comes back with a different accent?. Is this forming or is this something that naturally happens?. But I have seen some whites living in Nigeria for a long time but have not lost their accent for ours......please what do you guys make of this trend?

CrimeTragic:8-year-old Girl Set Ablaze In Plateau State by Secrets11(op): 11:41am On Jun 18, 2015
A 60-year-old man, identified as Yakubu Vong, has allegedly burned to death an 8-year-old girl at Sabon Layi in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state.

Vanguard reports that the girl was accused of being involved in witchcraft.
The suspect, who is in police custody in Jos, was said to have lured the girl to his house where he forced her to confess to being a witch.

It is understood that the girl’s refusal goaded the man into a fury and prompted him to bathe her with fuel and set her on fire. James Bamu, an uncle to the dead girl, lamented that she was innocent, wondering if the suspect had any proof that the girl was a witch. He described the act as barbaric and called on police to bring the suspect to trial. According to the uncle, it will serve as deterrent to others who practice such evil acts.

Shortly after the horrible incident, the girl was rushed to hospital, where she died as a result of the burns she had suffered.

Emmanuel Abuh, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the incident, describing the situation as tragic and sad. He added that the suspect was already in police custody and an investigation had been launched. H. http://www.naij.com/464543-8-year-old-girl-set-ablaze-in-plateau-state.html?utm_source=rss
CrimePictured! Cooks Poison Family Soup In Lekki by Secrets11(op): 3:13pm On Jun 17, 2015
Two cooks, who are nationals of the Benin Republic, Victor Hounkpe and David Amusu, have been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly poisoning their employers’ meal in the Lekki area of the state. It was learnt that the employers, Mr. Nwogu Chinaka, and his wife, Omowunmi were taken to a hospital outside the country after eating the poisoned meal on the unfortunate day.

Punch correspondent gathered that apart from the couple, the security guards and other domestic workers who ate the poisoned meal became unconscious and were all hospitalised. Continue...

It was learnt that on Wednesday, April 22, at about 5pm, Hounkpe, who had stayed for about a month in the house, prepared a vegetable soup for the family.

Our correspondent gathered that all members of the family, including the security personnel in the compound ate the soup which was served by the cook for dinner.

Minutes later, the husband, Nwogu, reportedly developed a severe stomach ache and collapsed, while Omowunmi rushed him to a nearby hospital.

The wife, however, also became unconscious and fell at the gate of the hospital after she allegedly had a severe stomach pain. The couple was treated in the same hospital.

Our correspondent gathered that two security guards in the compound were brought to the hospital later in the day.

It was gathered that Hounkpe and Amusu reportedly fled from the house during the incident.

The police said the couple later wrote a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, on the matter, and after investigation by the Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, the runaway cooks were arrested.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, 34-year-old Hounkpe said he put the substance in the family’s soup to make everybody fall asleep so that valuables in the house could be easily carted away.

“I am from the Benin Republic. I came to Nigeria in 2007. I have always worked as a cook in Lagos. David was the agent who brought me to the couples’ house. He was the one who gave me the substance to put inside the soup. He told me the substance was a sleeping pill. The plan was that everyone would fall asleep.

“They wanted to steal gold and other valuables. I put the substance inside the vegetable soup. It was a powdery substance. I had worked with them for about a month. The couple did not offend us. They were to pay me N50,000 monthly. We just wanted them to sleep off. I ran to the Ogudu area after the incident to pick up another job. That was where I was arrested.”

Amusu, 33, added that the gang was about raiding the couples’ apartment when the duo became unconscious and was rushed to a hospital.

He said, “I was a former cook in the house. I was the one who brought Victor (Hounkpe). On the fateful day, when Victor finished cooking the soup, he called me to say the job had been done. But then, we learnt that the couple was rushed to a hospital after falling unconscious. So, we fled the area.”

The police added that the plan was to use Hounkpe as an insider to give free access to the robbery gang. Amusu was to lead the gang members into the compound. They added that the plan was foiled.

The CP, Aderanti, who paraded the suspects, advised residents of Lagos to always do background checks on people employed into their homes and places of work.

He said, “They have both confessed to the crime. The couple has been flown abroad for treatment. I want the public to always be careful about the people they bring into their homes. In Lagos, there is no place for criminals to hide.”. http://www.ladunliadinews.com/2015/06/pictured-cooks-poison-family-soup-in.html?m=1

Why Do Men Get Er3ct1ons In The Morning?
It’s an amusing, albeit often highly inconvenient, phenomenon that half of the world’s population has to deal with on a regular basis. So what’s the science story behind that morning glory? Let’s find out.
Morning glories, or nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) as they are correctly called, are spontaneous er3ct1ons that occur during sleep or while waking up. All blokes without er3ct1le dysfunction are graced with them and they normally occur around three to five times during sleep.
NPT actually starts in utero, or in the womb (seriously), and continues throughout life. If it’s any consolation, men aren’t completely alone—women also get clitoral er3ct1ons and vaginal engorgement during sleep, and various nonhuman mammals also get NPT. While a few different theories have been proposed over the years to explain NPT, what causes it still remains uncertain. NPT, just like clitoral er3ct1ons, is associated with REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. One idea is that during REM sleep, noradrenergic cells (neurons that release the neurotransmitter noradrenaline [norepinephrine]) located in an area of the pons (part of the brainstem) called the locus coeruleus are switched off. It is thought that these cells are associated with the inhibitory tone of the p3n1s; therefore, when their activity is reduced during REM sleep, testosterone-dependent excitatory tones can be expressed which result in an er3ct1on.
It’s also been suggested that NPT is triggered by the release of nitric oxide (NO). NO is released by cells that line the inside of blood vessels which then diffuses into smooth muscle, causing it to relax. This also causes blood vessels to dilate, hence increasing blood flow to the p3n1s and voila, an er3ct1on. It’s thought that increased activity of part of the pons during REM sleep triggers a cascade of events that ultimately lead to NO release by nerve fibers. This is also regulated by androgens such as testosterone.
So we have discussed how, but what about why? One idea is that these sleep exercises actually contribute to the health of your junk. Er3ct1ons cause the er3ct1le tissue (corpora cavernosa) to swell, which in turn oxygenates the tissue. This oxygenation maintains its viability and helps to prevent cavernous fibrosis, a condition that can ultimately lead to er3ct1le dysfunction.
Another interesting theory is that pitching a tent prevents men from wetting the bed. There are two main types of er3ct1ons: psychogenic and reflex. The former starts with stimulating thoughts or images which trigger an er3ct1on via nerve signals. The latter is an involuntary process that occurs without s3xy thoughts and it’s believed that a full bladder can trigger them. The nerves controlling these reflex er3ct1ons are located in the sacral nerves of the spinal cord which are also stimulated by a full bladder. Since it’s difficult to pee with a stiffy, it’s thought that NPT may prevent accidental nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting). While this may sound plausible, it seems unlikely because the body has lots of other methods to prevent you from wetting the bed. Furthermore, it doesn’t really make sense given that nocturnal enuresis also affects women.

RomanceOpinion:like A.oshiomhole, Go For That Pretty, Classy And Sophisticated Chick by Secrets11(op): 6:45pm On Jun 12, 2015
Ladies are like ‘books’ it takes ‘intelligent students’ I mean guys, to read and understand them. To some guys, ladies are very difficult to get, while to some, they are the easiest thing aside money which is very difficult to get. The set of guys who think ladies are difficult to get perceive them as demi-gods, a thought which kills their confidence to walk up to a lady and open a conversation. These set of guys get intimidated with a lady’s physical appearance and her add-ons, which makes them develop cold feet to exchange pleasantries let alone getting intimate.

Men who belong to this school of thought hide under the guise that they are either ugly, poor, or may not be up to the lady’s standard, which is actually a wrong impression about themselves. No woman is bigger than a man, no matter her status – it’s been originally designed by God that they be a lesser s*x to the man, the moment a guy understands this fact; he can approach even a president’s daughter no matter his financial status, what matters most is making your feelings known to her, even if you face rejection, somewhere inside of her, she will appreciate your guts and might even fall for you later on because ladies love guys who never get intimidated by their status.

A lady is not created beautiful by God to intimidate a man; she is created to be appreciated by him, to be her partner and as a matter of fact her life partner. No matter how beautiful a woman is, she must be married by a man whether ugly or good looking. It is not all beautiful women who get married to handsome men, and being ugly does not stop a man from marrying a beautiful woman. A man can be ugly in looks and be ‘handsome’ in other things, when this is realised; he can never limit himself to getting which ever woman his heart desires.

Other things I mean a man can be ‘handsome’ in, is not particularly money, although it is very vital; not all women’s heart is won with money. A man is good looking and ‘rich’ based on his inner content, and this wins a lady’s confidence over. As a matter of fact, he may not get to spend a dime for a lady; rather, she’ll be the one doing so. One vital thing is that the man must always look presentable.

Ladies dress well with all the designer clothes, shoes, bags, perfumes etc to look good. It is for them to be noticed and appreciated by the opposite s*x and not to intimidate them like many men assume. Truth is, a lady feels bad when she’s not either appreciated for her looks or not approached by a man- not minding whether he is ugly or good looking. In this part of the world, it is believed that only guys should woo ladies and not the other way round. Ladies love guys who have confidence to express themselves. A lady with class and all the luxuries of life would love a guy who has not got same luxury who mulls the courage to woo her not minding his status.

However, it is on a rare occasion that a lady walks up to a guy and expresses her feelings towards him, so never think that a lady you are in love with would come to ask you out no matter the green light you are showing her. It’s an african culture that a man should woo a woman and not the other way round and it is to remain that way till eternity.

On the final note, like Oshiomole, if there’s any pretty, classy and sophisticated chick your heart beats for, summon the courage to ask her out not minding your financial incapacitation, trust me even if she turns down your request, she sure will appreciate your guts as a man.

Music/RadioP-square Haven’t Been To Church Since 2007; The Reason Will Shock You! by Secrets11(op): 6:22pm On Jun 12, 2015
International Nigerian super duo, P-Square, have opened up on why they have not been to church for the past eight years.

In a recent chat with Nigerian Camera, the twins said whenever they attended church there was too much attention on them instead of God.

“Each time we attend, other worshipers would not listen to the Pastor’s sermon again. All eyes will just be on us. Instead of praying, some people will even decide to be starring at us. We were not comfortable with that and thought we were distracting a lot of people from serving their God, so we said to ourselves that we should stop going” they said.

“All men are equal before God, so we don’t encourage people to abandon their primary purpose of being in church because of us” they further said.

Do you think their excuse is good enoughhuh
Music/RadioPhoto:nigerian Man Narates His Sad Encounter With Majek Fashek by Secrets11(op): 6:13pm On Jun 12, 2015
One of Nigeria’s many bloggers, Joseph Edgar, who is also an investment banker has posted his very sad encounter with Nigerian reggae legend, Majek Fashek.

Edgar met the ‘Send Down The Rain‘ singer on his way to work today, June 12, 2015.

The blogger said he was saddened with Majek’s appearance.

Majek Fashek who was once one of the leading artistes in this country has had a battle with drugs.

You can read his post on Majek Fashek below: –

“Investment banker and Blogger ran into Nigerian music legend Majek Fashek this morning in Lagos on his way to work. The story he shares is quite sad. Read below…

On my way to work this morning, I spotted a loony figure. Pants sagged, dirty black underwear showing, a caftan perched precariously on his extra lean shoulders, shock of long unkempt dreadlocks cascading down his head and teeth yellowed by years of hard living and a face still surprisingly handsome despite the ravages of illicit living. This was Majek, my hero, the one who brought down the rain.

He it was who redefined Reggae and in that one album forced us to look deep into our consciousness, calling us prisoners of conscience. He it was who took that Bob Marley piece, Redemption Song into the sublime. He infused it with his pangolo rhythm and turned it into an anthem of social and spiritual awakening. Majek was a god, strong Adonis like looks, talent yet to me replicated in our clime and charisma of the gods.

This same Majek, I just saw like that in Fadeyi, begging for ogogoro because he did not have 100 Naira to pay for it. I stopped brought out 1,000 Naira and was immediately struck by confusion. Should I give him this money and contribute to his death or should I refuse him and watch him throw a tantrum like a disposed toddler. He saved me the dilemma as he grabbed the money from me and rushed to the ugly, black dirty merchant of death, who gleefully poured him a glass full.

Majek downed the drink and hugged me like I had just saved him from the hang mans noose. I looked deep into his eyes and saw a lost soul. He was actually begging for help, the demon inside of him peered at me from his once very beautiful eyes, daring me to do my worse. Assuring me that he had no intention of leaving this host until it finished it’s dreadful task of killing him ever so slowly.

He called me a fine boy and wished he was as good looking as I was, I laughed. A laugh that was more of pity, a laugh that was laced with internal cry of pain. A pain that cascaded through every pain in my body. If only I had one tenth of this talent, I would be far from fadeyi begging for N100 worth of ogogoro.

Did we fail him as Nigerians, did we put an umbrella over the Rainmaker, did the flood of his talent wash away his life, what can be done, do we continue watch him make a mockery of a Life once blessed?

Majek in his destitution represents Nigeria. Blessed with more than enough resources., rich in human capacity, more fertile land than the whole of Asia and filled with gifted and talented people, but yet beggerly and poor. Daily our leaders go to ‘jibowu’ to beg poorer countries for aid, for debt forgiveness. The contradiction never leaves me. Japan with no known Natural resources is so developed that we can only look in shame.

Majek with all the talents of a thousand people, begging the woman who can’t lift a finger beside him for N100, Majek being laughed at by miscreants and being mocked with so much joy by those who were not half as blessed by God.

What can I do, but to write this piece and just walk away, lest his guest demon attempt a move on my life. I saw it and felt it look into my soul and with one withered hand, offered me a shot of the Devils brew. A shot I knew would throw me into the darkest pits of Majeks torture, a shot that will take me spiraling down the tunnels of oblivion, destroying the innocent dependent lives of my children while giving Majek solace that he has finally found a room mate albeit a very reluctant and scared one.

I pray for you sir.  I pray God gives you peace. God bless you Majek.“
