A missing one-year-old girl identified as Pornsiri Wongsilarung and also known by her nickname Gina, has been found alive in a cave where an alleged kidnapper took her to sacrifice her to forest spirits.

44-year-old Siew reportedly abducted Pornsiri from outside the family home in a remote village in Chiang Mai province of Thailand on Sunday afternoon September 5.

At the time of disappearance of the minor who was playing in front of their house, her mother Malee Pasee, 23 was cooking in the kitchen and her father Suriya Wongsilaruang, 43, was taking rubbish to a tip around two miles from their home.

She was discovered missing after her mother finished cooking but did not hear a response. Neighbours said they last saw the Pornsiri walking on the road around 10 metres away from home.

More than 200 police officers, rescue workers and volunteers searched through nearby homes and woodland for the missing girl. Sniffer dogs, aerial search drones and a diving team were also looking for Gina in various places where she could have strayed.

After the suspect who is a Myammar national and a friend of the girl's father was arrested on Monday September 6, he allegedly admitted kidnapping the youngster and leaving her in a cave around two miles from the family home.

It was also learnt that when questioned on Tuesday September 7, Siew reportedly refused to co-operate with officers before breaking down after being grilled throughout the night.

Pornsiri was finally rescued from a wooden hut next to the water-logged cave on Wednesday afternoon September 8. She was wearing only a shirt, was covered in insect bites and appeared exhausted but was standing on her own and laughing with the rescue teams. Medics then rushed her to the hospital for a test.

Siew who spoke to journalists, said forest spirits told him to sacrifice a child to the ghost. He said;

"The forest spirits were telling me to sacrifice a child to the ghost, so I carried Gina and left her in front of the cave. I did not kill her."

The girl's mother who broke down in tears when her daughter was found, said;

"I have been praying all day and night for my baby to come home safely. I am so happy she is alive. I would have given my own life to see her come home safely.

"I am so grateful to all the people who have helped to find her. She will be safe again with us. I'll never let her go again."

Police Major General Pichet Chiranantasin said;

"We have been questioning the Burmese man throughout the night. The suspect looked confused and might have been using drugs.

"He confessed to abducting the girl and leaving her at the cave. When he told us this we were able to make him tell us the location and we could find the girl.

"We need to question the suspect more about the motive if anybody else was involved and to check if he did anything to the girl. We will also wait for medical reports on her condition."

Siew has since been remanded in custody while officers continuing questioning him on charges of kidnapping a child.

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested nine suspected members of a dreaded cult group, Eye Confraternity.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, who paraded the suspects at the police headquarters at Eleyele, Ibadan on Wednesday, August 18, said they were arrested after the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Atiba Division got information that some cultists were gathering to do handing-over and initiation of some new members.

The suspects were identified as Ayinde Kehinde (23), Bolaji Owodunni (27), Adedeji Abdullahi (23), Folaranmi Babatunde (26), Omiwinde Oyekunle (19), Olayemi Quadri (23), Olafemi Oyewole (33), Olamide Joshua (21) and Toheeb Bello (25).

It was gathered that the cultists, in a large number, had moved to a forest at Oroki area of the town to do the handover ceremony when they were arrested on August 14 at almost 12 midnight, while others were nabbed at a place in the early hours of August 15 after a raid.

"We swung into action and nine of them were arrested. They have been interrogated and confessed that they are all members of Eye Confraternity. Some of them were going for initiation while some of them were going to hand over to the new executive." the CP stated.

Recovered from the suspects were two locally-made guns, machete and two axes, among other weapons.

The police boss also said that those arrested were allegedly engaging in robbery and were being investigated, adding that the police will continue doing our duties to make sure that Oyo State is safe and secure.

Onadeko enjoined parents and guardians to talk to their children and wards, so that they would be conscious of the unlawful act that cultism is.

"Just like those ones arrested now, their parents thought they were in school, but you can see what they have ended up doing," she added.

In an interview, one of the suspects, Kehinde, who claimed to be an OND graduate from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, confessed to being an Eye cult member.

The suspect opened up that he was initiated into cultism in 2018, and was given ‘Sparrow’ as his cult’s bird name.

On how he got the locally-made gun found with him, Kehinde said that it was given to him to hold by a friend he went to meet in Oyo town for his handing and taking over ceremony.

He said that he was arrested when Amotekun Corps that worked with the police stormed the place he was staying with other friends, while his friend who owned the gun escaped.

Expressing regret at his cult membership, he said that he had realized that it was a bad association and he had nothing to gain from it.

According to the police, another suspect, Joshua, who disclosed that he was member of Pyrates Confraternity and not Eye cultist, explained that he was forcefully made to join the cult group in July. He also said that he just had the axe found with him as a Disc Jockey (DJ).

Three of the cultists were said to be a barber, shoemaker and assistant driver (motor boy) respectively.

Socialite, PrettyMike, has expressed concern over the growing trend of profiling in the country.

In a post he shared on his Instagram page, PrettyMike opined that profiling has resulted in some persons exploiting others just because they believe they are of certain financial status.

Using himself as an example, he wrote;

''Profiling is becoming an issue in our society . It’s affecting a whole lot of things and I believe it’s time we address it.

I mean, You can’t even park In front of people’s stores to buy something, without the price quadrupling. It’s always best to park a few blocks away.
How about the fact that you can’t shop on IG with your real account, I remember a guy I ordered some pants from. He charged me a non-negotiable price of 60k which I paid but I just had this inkling to check again. I used a friend’s account to inquire about those same pants and guess what?... it was going for 15k. I felt conned.

Or what is the one that called an obscene price and tried to justify his outrageousness with “but you are pretty Mike nah!”

Why does it always have to be so?

They base their prices on how well you speak, your outfit/ your complexion , the car you drive, infact anything that shows you aren’t suffering practically skyrockets the price.

It’s crazy! You try to get them to reason with you concerning their exorbitant prices ... you speak pidgin just to show you understand the ways of the street too, they laugh and remove a few pennies like they are doing you one huge favor... when we both know in the depths of our subconsciousness that someone is trying to get ripped..

It’s really a Dog eat Dog world.''
