Traders in Relief Market in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State are counting their losses as flood, occasioned by heavy rainfall, washed away shops, electric poles, and cables in the market.

The leadership of the market said at least 30 shops were washed away by a submerging flood, including electric poles, underground cables, water borne pipes, among others after the flood hit the market on Friday.

Caretaker Committee Chairman of the market, Chief David Obidike, disclosed this during a tour of the affected areas while taking members of his executive and newsmen around the portions.

While briefing journalists on their travails, Obidike said: “On one of the nights a few days ago, the chief security officer of the market called me and told me that devastating flood from Awada Area, has carried the market as the flood entered under the Sakamori (drainage) system in the market and uprooted it, thereby wreaking havoc in the market.

“The damages were much, about 10 shops were washed away with the wares in them, the electric armoured cables, big water-borne pipe and telephone cables buried underground were all exhumed and damaged by the flood.

“As I talk now we have not gotten power supply for a month now since the rainy season started, and you can’t make a call, the market is in blackout and traders are using gen sets.

“Our market is now in danger because it is situated in the notorious Upper Iweka axis, these hoodlums can easily come into the market through the damaged portions caused by the erosion menace,” Obidike lamented.

He said the only saving grace of the traders from theft has been that it has a team of dedicated security men.

“I thank God that we have a watertight security outfit and since I assumed office as the chairman nobody has reported that his wares have been looted or stolen,” he said.

He pleaded with the Anambra Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo; the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Obinna Ngonadi; the Federal Government and all the National Assembly members within the Ogbaru Federal Constituency to come to our rescue as the extent of damages done is beyond our financial capability.

“We are making this appeal because if the rain comes again more harm will be done to the market, let alone if the rainy season is over and nothing tangible was done,” he said.

The late musician who created the Soko brand of Juju Music was confirmed dead at the Lagos State University where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

He would have turned 64 on April 4, 2022.

Background
His emergence on the music scene in 1991, with the album, Super Jet, commanded attention. He launched his career at a time when veterans like Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade, and Sir Shina Peters were already household names.

He was about 10 years old when he started playing the guitar.

He went to become a guitarist in his church and brought fame and wealth into his family. His dexterity on the guitar earned him the nickname, Wonder Boy.

He attended the African Church Primary School and proceeded to African Church Secondary School for his post-elementary education.

From there, he attended Sabo Technical School, Ojuelegba, Lagos State, where he trained as an engineer. He had a role model in the late Prince Adekunle and was the lead guitar on the albums titled ‘Aditu Ede Adekunle Gbede’, ‘Eda Nreti Eleya’, ‘Nibo left Toluwasi’, ‘You Tell Me That You Love Me Baby’ and many more.

He also learnt how to maintain a music band and how to properly arrange music from him his role model at the time.

His first album titled ‘Ha! Jesu Mbe’ was released in 1977.

Others are ‘Elevation’, ‘Wisdom’, ‘Joy’, ‘Easy Life’, and the popular ‘Soko Xtra’.

Soldiers storm nursing school in Ihiala, Anambra state to search for gunmen after a gun battle at an APGA gubernatorial election rally in the community.

Nigerian Soldiers Storm Anambra Nursing School In Search Of Unknown Gunmen

Nigerian soldiers have been captured in a video going viral showing them storm a nursing school in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The military personnel reportedly stormed the school, Our Lady of Lourdes Nursing School, Okija, to search for some unknown gunmen who had a gun duel with the military.

Unknown gunmen, on Tuesday, attacked the venue of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Ihiala LGA of the state.

The gunmen, who stormed Odoata Primary School on various motorcycles and in three vehicles, were however overpowered by security personnel.

A combined team of policemen and soldiers repelled the attack.

A source explained that the gunmen were unable to withstand the superior firepower of the soldiers and police officers and quickly ran into the premises of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital which was directly opposite the campaign ground.

In the video which has now done viral, passersby were seen raising their hands to show they had no weapon. Students of the school in white uniforms were also spotted running at some point in the video, before a gun shot was fired.

The Anambra State Police Command has requested the people in the area to help look out for people with gunshots and report them.

It has also asked hospitals and other health facilities in both Ihiala Local Government Area and neighbouring communities in Imo State to report
