No fewer than four students have lost their lives after a school building at Diamond Grammar College, Ikang in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State collapsed on Friday, March 25, Siggy reports.

According to reports, the building collapsed while students were writing an exam in the school, and while two of the victims died on the spot, the other two died on the morning of March 28 from injuries they sustained from the unfortunate incident.

Confirming the incident, Commissioner for Quality Education in Cross River State, Mr Godwin Amanke, said the state government is working with the authorities of the school to ensure such a tragedy never happens again.

“It is unfortunate that the two other students who were injured and receiving treatment at the hospital died this morning, bringing the number of deaths to four.

We are scaling up our standards and requirements and private schools that do not meet up with this will not be allowed to operate anymore.

We maintain a high standard of safety in our public schools across the state and private schools that wish to operate here must keep to that standard”, he said.

In the clip, the lady danced on a wide field at her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp with the NYSC khaki on her, which had many other corps members present.

The lady coordinated her leg and waist moves well in such a way that synched with the song that was playing.

The University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) has emerged as the overall winner of the 26th edition of the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA)’s sporting activities, Siggy reports.

The sporting activities were held at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) from March 16 to 26, 2022.

Twenty-one games including football, volleyball, basketball, handball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, hockey, cricket, chess, taekwondo, judo, swimming, Karate, strong man, beach volleyball, athletics, squash and boxing among others were competed for.

UNIPORT emerged overall best with 120 medals and went home with the trophy donated by Chairman of MultiChoice Nigeria and Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya.

The host, UNILAG came second with 86 medals while Nile University, Abuja emerged third after garnering 38 medals.

All the winning schools were excited as they went forward to receive their trophies.

Benson Idahosa University, Edo State also won a trophy as the ‘Best Behaved University’ in recognition of their comportment during the activities.

The Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, at the closing ceremony of NUGA 2022, commended the performance of all the universities; saying Nigerian students are very good.

After putting off the torch, UNILAG handed over the flag to the NUGA President, Prof Stephen Hamafyelto, while he presented it to the University of Jos as the next host of NUGA 2024.

According to Hamafyelto, the competition was the biggest sporting event for university students in Nigeria.

He announced at the close of the event that talents recognised during the competition would be called upon to represent Nigeria at the World University Games in China in June this year. He urged them to continue to train.

The management of Federal Polytechnic, Bida have rolled out a memo instructing students on the acceptable dress codes they are to abide by, Siggy reports.

This is to inform the general public particularly students that Decent Conduct Committee is set to embark on compliance exercise as from Wednesday, 30th March 2022.

During the exercise, students are required to dress decently to avoid being sent back to change.

Stop and Check method will be used to enforce compliance.

In a way of reminding the public, the following are the indecent conduct prohibited by the Committee:

-Short and Skimpy Dress such as: Body hugs, Show-me-your-chest, Spaghetti wears and dress exposing sensitive parts of the body (Laps/ Thighs, Armpits.

Tight Shorts and Obscene Skirts that are above the knees (except for sporting purposes)

Tattered/Patched Jeans and Jeans with holes (aka CRAZY JEAN) Transparent and See-Through Dresses

Tight Fitting Wears; e.g. Jeans, Skirts, Hip var, Patra, Lactra, etc. that reveals body shape and contour.

Under-clothing (such as Singlet, Bum-shorts, Camisoles) worn publicity

Unkempt appearance such as wearing of bathroom slippers to classrooms (except for medical reasons)

Long and Tight Skirts which have slit in front or at the sides, which unduly reveal sensitive parts of the body as wearer moves on

Wearing of T-shirts and tops with Obscene, immoral inscriptions and advertisement

Wearing of Shirt without Buttons, not properly buttoned, revealing, the wearer's chest unduly

Wearing of Earring by male students.

Plaiting or Weaving of Hair by male students

Wearing of dreadlocks by both male and female students 14. Sagging of trousers by male students

Multi-Coloured Hair (hair extension cattachment) OTHER THAN colours 1, 2 and 4:

A Corps member named Musa Momoh Tunde (KB/22A /2278) as died at the Orientation Camp in Dakingari, Kebbi State after slumping when watching a football match, Siggy reports.

Late Tunde, a Public Administration graduate of the Federal Polytechnic Bida, slumped and died on Friday evening, March 26, while watching one of the inter-platoon football matches.

The Director-General of NYSC in his condolence message presented by Bar. Ahmed Tijjani described corps member Musa Momoh Tunde as a young patriotic Nigerian who died while in active service to the nation.

He advised the family to accept his death as an act of God noting that death is inevitable and can come when no one expects.

The DG further said that the deceased died as a dignified young man who was ready and eager to contribute his quota to national development and will be remembered as a selfless and highly patriotic Nigerian.

Mr. Yahaya Mohammed, elder brother of the deceased who spoke on behalf of the family said they are comforted by the fact that the deceased led a good life and died honourably and in active service to the nation.

Meanwhile, the corps member has been laid to rest at Kebbi State Central cemetary according to Islamic rite.

The entire staff and students community of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) have been thrown into mourning at the news of the death of a popularly student of the institution named Ochuko, Siggy reports.

Ochuko who was until the time of her death a 300-Level student from department of petroleum engineering gave up the ghost after getting involved in a fatal motor accident on Auchi-Benin expressway.

The deceased was a popular sport woman who had represented her faculty in series of competition winning numerous awards. She got a recognition award from the vice chancellor of UNIBEN, Mrs Lilian Salami, as the highest goal scorer at the just concluded inter-faculty 5-aside football competition.

Another female student of the University of Benin named Anita and Lina, a student of Auchi Poly were reported to have also died in the fatal accident.
