Two consenting adults is not a weak argument. It is the main reason why intimacy between human and animal, adult and child will never be legal anywhere on earth, and the main reason why few people will publically advocate it. Not a good comparison.

As for incest, mother and son or sister and brother is as above, and also is a universal human taboo, rather than simply opinion. The reason for this is that it causes social disruption and any children that result have genetic problems, so we avoid it.

Not really, I live in lagos, I always noticed that people were always scared that the government could seize any land. Infact I am sure that there is somewhere in our constitution which make it easy for the government and yoruba obas sef to seize lands. I am just curious how the enterprising igbo would be able to deal with the hungry yoruba boys who could be paid N 50 to eject igbo people from yorubaland.

the US high divorce rates IMO can be attributed to the sexual revolution of the 60s that made intimacy more casual. And we all know that US culture makes its way around the globe in most cases. (esp. when it's a culture that's favorable to men and imported into a male dominated country)

My second problem was this but I forgot to address it. I would wager that giving women more rights have been responsible for the high rates of divorce. Infact giving them the audacity to share half of my hard earned money is what them go forward with divorce as opposed to separation or being thrown out of the house by the husband

I dont know much about other cultures, but Yoruba culture okays it for a man to sleep around. Take this example for instance. If A woman does not bear children in her marital home, her in-laws will start pressuring her husband to find another woman.

And since polygamy is legal. . . .it's only expected if the dolt starts sleeping around to find another wife.

That's as stereotypical as one gets. Anyways please state exemplary cultures which encourage sleeping around and cultures which don't. That would at least put your claim in perspective. Biologically needs know proof from my part- the fact that men are way more physical than women in terms of attraction gives you more perspective.

Very strong recommendation from your school may very well be the most important step. Also, it is important you have real extra-curricular activities that stand out. P[b]lans and dreams are OK but activities that have started affecting the lives of others is a double + (For extra credits show how you are using your American degree to affect lives in naija, this will show the committee that you will utilize the advanced degree even more when you get it[/b]).

On another note, I think the engineers here should start considering caltech. I know someone going there in the fall. They like minority applicants, well qualified minority applicants, so they might give a little room. You have to be top notch though, but if you are, they will do anything to make you come over there, plus its CA, nice weather and girls. Another thing with engineering is that it is pretty easier to trade up from a typical school to a top school depending on how hardworking you are.

If you mean transferring, I think thats impossible.

Speaking of Caltech, there departments are really too small. I know in their undergrad, they had like 8 black people in the whole school when I was in secondary school.

Errm what do you mean like well qualified like at least above a 3.3+ or 3.9+, you know qualified is relative.

Seriously, mekusxx has cunningly turned You and Safego to tribalists with you guys realizing it. Well I am technically not a tribalist, I just hate whiners. I still advise people on schools in the UK and US but in the education forum. Infact thats the main reason I came to Nairaland and still is lol. I just use this to pass time. Infact, I am right now in one my classmates house (he is igbo) in new york, and his family are nice , and he has hot sisters too, I am already eyeing But regardless I have too concerns:

1. Although I do sometimes exhibit some childish superiority complex, I dont exhibit an ethnic one. I a really uncomfortable when people think they are better than other people.
2. Most importantly, I hate victim attitudes and paranoia. I want to show that Igbo people could be president- even Onlytruth if he goes for it, instead of sitting down here discussing about Yoruba and Fulani devils just like how AA devils. IMO, I would overwhelmingly vote for an Igbo man anywhere if he would look for my interest. Even moreso, I would not view him as an igno but a fellow Nigerian. Whenever I am in the States, and I see someone black even a cleaner, I say hi and I am ultimately friendly to them because I feel some connection to them. I dont see whats so hard about us seeing a connection in our struggles to develop black Africa.
