Agriculture / Re: Why I Want To Quit Farming This Year And My Plan For 2016 by Segzie8180: 6:15pm On Jun 27, 2016
I need your contact details. I will like to have a conversation with you. My email is globalapogeeltd@gmail.com and my number is 08053268551
jasper7:
I want to quit farming this year... I want to go into processing and marketing of food products. I want to manage farmers. Not because farming is not profitable but because some really good farmers I know are suffering. Really suffering. And that is not down to the abundance of food but because they lack the right management practises. It's a big problem and I want to put in my quota in solving it.

I have been restless for a while now. Very restless. Nigeria's economy is sinking with the price of oil.

Statistics show that Nigeria spent 35billion dollars on food importation in 2015. And made a meagre 350 million from food exportation. This is a serious problem. Nigeria is in Trouble

I am speculating that more Nigerians will die of hunger than boko haram's terrorism in the next 10 years if we do not save our economy.

How can we save this economy of ours... There are areas of agriculture that is sweeping in foreign exchange for the country on a daily basis. And there are other areas that we can close up shop. And stop sending our precious cash abroad.

I have been doing some research. I think every well meaning farmer irrespective of his farming interests should have a level of export product to gain some foreign exchange.

We can turn this economic problem to our favour. We can make it the best thing that has happened to us. Believe me, a lot of attention will be transferred to people with exportable product. Considering that Nigeria is desperately scrambling for ways to revive its economy.

Let's set up plantations, farm settlements an farm estates for exportable products.

Hotmas911 already caught the vision as he is setting up a cashew plantation in ogbomosho (Land of Cashew ).

With this I have tried to streamline what I will do in 2016.

I'll be sharing them in 2 posts. You are welcome to partner, copy, criticize (constructively) or give your own view point or idea to improve what I already have.

Car Talk / Re: Engine Oil And Atf Dilemma SOS Call by Segzie8180: 4:35pm On Jul 29, 2015
[quote author=IyaIode post=36367062]Hi everyone, I just bought a 2004 Ford escape v6 from a friend of mine, she has used the car in Nigeria for 3yrs. The problem here is I would like to change the fluids in the car but my friend does not know what fluids are presently in car as she can't reach the mechanic that helped her with the last changes 2yrs ago shocked

The transmission fluid look light brown or brownish red, smells bad

The engine oil looks black and smells awful

No coolant in the radiator reservoir, just water with rusty color.

I would like to put the car back in top shape, I have been reading a lot on this section and elsewhere but I am still confused.

TRANSMISSION

1. The recommend atf is mercon and I have decided to settle for pureguard atf that is mercon, mercon lv and mercon v compatible.
My fear is do I do a complete flush of the oil smelling atf (slight burnt smell when it's hot) or do I ask my mechanic to do drain and fill with about 10 quarts

Engine Oil

I have settled for milemaster semi synthetic 5w20 I found on konga, I don't want to go for full synthetic because I don't know what the previous engine oil is.
Also should I use one of these engine oil flush, the more I read about the more confused I am
I also settled for motorcraft oil filler.

Coolant

I can't find the Gold color HOAT coolant so I have decided to used OAT green freeztone coolant that is non alcohol based.

I would like you guys to guys me right because all I know is what I read. Decotech, GAZZUZZ, Siena, lomomike,
Ikenna351, sultaan Delafruita, abatically IdaraCHODB, nurey. pls help

[I drive a Ford Escape 2009 and I use a dexron III ATF for it despite Mercon IV is specified for it. It is equivalent for Mercon IV and it has not given any issue since I have been using it. For the engine oil, despite you don't have the knowledge of the previous oil the former owner was using, I will advice you to flush the engine to clean it properly and the use the right oil for it which is 5W20 full synthetic. You are safe with the engine flush as long as it is quality. The full synthetic will give you peace of mind]

Piyke:

Most manufacturers advise against engine flushes (I am sure of Honda) especially in modern vehicles. Except you have a valid sludge case, I wouldn't advice anyone to do an engine flush simply because you want to switch to a lower weight oil. Note that some people have developed problems following flushes. If you do regular highway driving and maintain oil changes as scheduled you shouldn't have sludge.

I agree with you boss but these manufacturers does not expect you to use heavy weight oil in modern vehicles in as we have been doing here. Quality synthetic oil will not build sludge in your engine and that is why they will not recommend using engine flush.
My point is that for you to change your oil from mineral or conventional oil which we have mostly in our market to full synthetic oil ..... Please flush your engine to avoid complications. You can research it online

Perfectly yes. It is European standard oil

That's y it is good to READ before commenting

Lubex 5W30 is sold for 7,600 naira and is labeled FULL SYNTHETIC.

I'm not an engine oil marketer like most of you, but I do drains and refils on a daily basis, I see the damage caused by substandard oils, I see oil quality from drains that lasted over 6,000miles from quality engine oils and from substandard oils, so it's easy to tell what is palm oil rubish and what is good.

N7,600 is not the price of 4 litres, it's the price of 7 litres. I know what I am saying. The 4 litres is cheaper than that and it's only one place you can buy it from. watch out for Lubex advert in Punch newspaper and you will find different addresses and phone numbers of places you can get it from including the company's office address at Ikeja.

I love this eye opening thread. I was about changing engine oil for my 2005 Acura from Mobil XHP-1000 to mobil 1 5w-20. I have been using XHP 1000 for like 3 years now. I think should just continue with the XHP 1000.

Don't be scared, 3 years is still better than 6 years. Just buy an engine flush to flush your engine before you use the new oil. It only take 5 to 10 minutes to flush the engine. Try Shield engine flush, it's very good. Synthetic oil is the best

I used a flush b4 the recommended oil but I ended up using extra 2L of oil within a month of very mild driving cos it kept dropping. That is not acceptable to me.

Don't worry by the time you will service 2nd or 3rd time it will normalise. The engine will have to adjust itself to the chemical components of the oil and make sure you use a quality filter because most of the filters in the market are not very good. Thanks to the flush it didn't damaged your engine because you have been using the mineral oil for a long time. Synthetic oil is the best because they give your engine optimum performance.

Mobil1 5W30
Total 5W40
Toyota 5W30
Toyota 5W40
Toyota 5W20
Penzoil 5W30
Castrol 5W30

All these oils cost around 8-12k for 4liters, any one selling synthetic oil less than 6k is selling rubbish.

That is your perception ..... Lubex oil have never disappointed me. All these brands are just taking advantage of the market because these specifications are new to us in Nigeria. Toyota does not have a blending plant, they work with engine oil manufacturers that produces these oil in their name.
Automedics is known in Nigeria as a professional auto workshop and they recommend Lubex oil as a very good oil. You can get to buy Lubex oil at their office. Even the company that sells it run currently advert in Punch on every Sunday.

Changed my oil to recommended grade in my 2004 Honda Civic and ended up with a knocked engine. Currently using a semi-synthetic oil in the newly installed engine tho.

You can still use the recommended engine oil. The mistake you made is that you could have flush the first before changing the oil then. It's because majority of our mechanics don't even know the difference in these engine oil. They could have advised you better to use an engine flush before changing the oil. It works. ...

After using Total 20w50 for 6 years plus on my 2001 Honda Civic, Is there any effect if i want to change to the manufacturers recommended 5w20?

After all been said, they are all correct because 6 years is a long time to use a 20W50. The engine would have been use to the mineral oil but it is possible you change your oil to a 5W20. Just buy an engine flush and you are good to go. The engine flush will clean up your engine completely.

A lot companies have good reputation with their products but when it comes to engine oil, what company would you rather choose. Mobil, Castrol, royal purple, valvoline, few of our own here in nigeria. oando, total, conoil? I have used royal purple and I can say they have good performance. Add yours and let's know the best.

They are all good oil but the quality of each of them lies in their strengths which the capability to withstand the engine pressure without losing it's form quickly. By pressure I mean performance in cold and hot temperature of the engine. You can compare these features of different oil by asking for the data sheet from the producers to check the technical data of each oil like the flash point, pour point, viscosity index and total base number.
Lubex has it because I saw it when oil was introduced to me and I requested to have copy.

Is 5w30 a synthethic or semi synthectic oil? What actually is the difference in the two types of oil? Please what of milemaster 5w30?

Synthetic oils are 100% chemically produced and they lighter in viscosity while semi synthetic oil is a blend of mineral oil (made from crude oil) and chemical content. The chemical content is more in semi synthetic oil than the conventional oil which is commonly called mineral oil and this makes the semi synthetic oil stronger than mineral oil but not as strong as full synthetic oil.
The synthetic oil is more preferable than the other two because of the technology advancement. Vehicle technology are advancing every year so also the engine oil specification to match the engine technology so as to achieve optimum performance.

what is the price for 5 litres? does it require treatment. I saw milemaster 5w30 oil made specifically for toyota corolla, the price is 8,000 naira. it is too expensive.

Lubex oil is not as expensive, you can get a 4 litres 5W30 as low as N5,000 or less. You can patronise Autologous, he posted the picture of the 7 litres and you can also get it at Ogba a little after Excellent hotel round about where I bought mine
