The blame should be on the technical team of each Federation for failing to properly interpret the rules to the players..
African teams have a history of having poor technical crews...like in 2006 when this same head to head rule denied us a world cup ticket... Let's not forget the cases of Nigeria and South Africa fielding ineligible players because they couldn't verify that the said players were suspended due to accumulated yellow cards...

This is 2026. The rule is retrogressive and should have been done away with.

What does CAF mean by the result against Egypt will not be used in deciding the teams that qualified from the group? Was Egypt in the group or not?

Does any other confederation...UEFA, CONCACAF, AFC, CONMEBOL, OFC use this tie-breaker rule? Therein lies your answer.

As much as I dont have too much confidence in the depth of Madugu's tactical nous, I MUST COMMEND HIS TACTICAL RESPONSE TODAY AND HIS OVERALL GAME MANAGEMENT even when we went 1 player down from the 40th minute of the first half.

Madugu executed 50mins+ of football against Banda, Kundananji, Chanda, Chilufya and still limited them to just 2 tame shots. Please he deserves his flowers for today. But it is not eureka just yet.

Madugu wrought the expected changes after the Malawi loss and started with a double pivot of Abiodun and Ucheibe in midfield.

He benched Esther Okoronkwo, Ijamilusi and Ihezuo. Played Asisat and Uchenna Kanu.

He started Michelle Alozie at right back.

He read the game well and slotted Ucheibe to fill the hole left by Demehin's red card exit.

He rightfully substituted Imuran for Shukurat who went to right-back with Alozie moving to left-back.

We played with one down for the greater part of the game, and we didn't fold. The girls contested every ball. They ran for 90 minutes and covered every blade of grass. I saw grit, tenacity, determination and hard work.

All the above are due to coaching input.

I don talk am before, and I go talk am again. Madugu is not my cup of tea. I feel he could do so much better in integrating new and younger players into the fold, and if he had been more proactive, we could have bagged more dual-eligibility players who went on to play for other countries.

But it is diabolical to attribute the loss of the team to him, and the victory of the team to ONLY the players effort
