Great hosts but terrible sportsmen.

They leaked their withdrawal from hosting the WAFCON thinking it'd put CAF in a tight spot but when they heard SA was ready to step in, they backtracked that they had not withdrawn officially.

Another reason they didn't withdraw is because this AFCON will serve as the qualifiers for the world cup, and they stand a better chance of qualifying as host.

Motsepe too feels beholden to them and that's the reason he didn't strip them of the hosting rights.

If na another country dey pull this Morocco stunts, and SA dey standby, hin for don strip them since.

Anyhow sha, make CAF and Morocco get their acts together. The WAFCON must hold this year.

Yeah, auditions will unearth an unknown person with the lean physique that can portray Osimhen on screen.

Osimhen has one or two lookalikes on social media who mimic him convincingly. Whether they can act is another thing though.

Victor Osimhen story is the stuff of movies I swear. It'd be a very good biographical movie or Limited TV series like Funmilayo Ransome Kuti.

Season 1
• Birth into Poverty.
• Financial struggles at home and losing his mum early.
• Selling pure water in traffic.
• Running errands for stipends
• Selling Rhapsody of Realities Daily Devotional and sleeping in Christ Embassy church
• Playing barefoot jeunjeun football on dusty pitches.
• The backpack. Two clothes. Old car to Abuja.
• 900 boys appear for the open screening
• Green shirt. 15 minutes. Two goals. Silence. “The guy in green!”, “I’m the guy!”
• “Represents Nigeria at the 2015 U-17 World cup. Emerges highest goal scorer.

Season two shifts to Europe. Cold weather. Loneliness. Injuries. Doubt.
From Wolfsburg to Charleroi, then Lille. The grind. The growth. The hunger.

Then Naples and SSC Napoli.

A club that has waited 33 years after Diego Maradona. A city obsessed with football. Then a Nigerian boy walks in and writes his name into their history

The climax - Victor Osimhen winning the Scudetto with SSC Napoli. Highest goal scorer in Serie A. Masked warrior. Streets chanting his name.

Make Kunle Afolayan or BB Sasore direct am, e go too make sense.

🚨 Victor Osimhen: “I left home with a backpack and two pairs of clothes. The one I was wearing, and a 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐤𝐢𝐭 in my bag. We drove to Abuja in the oldest car you can imagine, and we arrived at midnight. The next morning, the sun came up and I saw 1 million kids with a dream”. 💭✨

“Maybe 1 million is an exaggeration, but not by much. There must have been 900 kids waiting outside this stadium. The first day, I didn’t even get on the pitch. The second day, one of the coaches finally 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐞”. 🫵🏾

🗣️ 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒓𝒕. 𝑳𝒆𝒕’𝒔 𝒈𝒐. 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝟏𝟓 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒔.

“Just 𝟏𝟓 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞. I knew that the only way to impress them was to run. So I ran until I was 𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝”. 🥵🩸

“I ended up 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟏𝟓 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬.
I thought that maybe I had a chance. But then the coaches got on a microphone, and they addressed the crowd. They called out some names, and I did not hear my name”. ⚽️⚽️

“𝐌𝐲 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝. I was just about to get in the car when I heard people shouting”.

🗣️ 𝑯𝒆𝒚! 𝑯𝒆𝒚! 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒖𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏!

“I turned around, and some kids were waving to me.
I pointed to my chest, like in the movies”.

🗣️ 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒖𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏!

“I ran back over to them, and they said ‘Hey, the coach wants to see you. The team doctor told him you were the guy who scored two goals. Are you the guy?’.” 😲

“I said, ‘I’m the guy!!! 𝐈’𝐌 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐆𝐔𝐘!!!’” 🙋🏾‍♂️

“I went back into the stadium and the doctor was pointing at me and 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬. He said, ‘That’s the kid’.” ✌🏻⚽️⚽️

“𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞. If the team doctor didn’t do that, I would not be a footballer today. I would probably be at the bottom of a well”. 💚

Women know what they are doing. Remember this lady who false accused this guy of rãpe? She gave a half-hearted apology with explanations.

The Victor Kelechi guy rebuffed it and is pressing charges.

What did she do next? She made a video. In the video, she had a bare face and is bespectacled to look like an innocent girl. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1868dpxBBo/

I skimmed through her profile. She's a pompus make-up artiste and all her pictures are heavy on make-up. But her apology video had her propping herself to be the innocent girl next door.

Just like Adeife, the OAU false rãpe accuser's second apology video to David, she looked for her a random place, removed her earrings and tied a scarf for sympathy.
------

Remember when TBillz and Tiwa Savage divorce began? He accused her of abandoning her responsibilities as a wife. To counter, Tiwa called for an interview where she tied a scarf like with no makeup and jewelry like she was the victim.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fMzqvGlDmg?si=mf9pUUL7gnImOwcu

Women know what they are doing. It's all about manipulation even when apologizing.

Even when you catch them in the act, they'd refer to the same issue with a thousand explanations and weak-willed men fall for it. If you are dûmb enough to argue with her, she will gaslight you and the public.

That's why Victor Kelechi and David refused to argue with these women. They are smart.

Simi is an entertainer, not a thought leader. the fact that i listen to snoop dogg does not mean i will follow his takes on controversial subjects.
it is however where we are today. no be last week davido dey incite mob to attack the lawyer who humiliated him?
Lol. This your "Simi is an entertainer, not a thought leader" defence of Simi is funny.

So because Simi is an entertainer, she's not supposed to have personal convictions or opinions on societal issues? So she should only sing, collect streams, pose on red carpets, collect awards and shut up about everything else?

Make I even ask sef, who is a thought leader and what qualifies a person to be one? Is it by educational qualification? Is it an academician, a pastor. an imam or a newspaper columnist?

Your Snoop example sef no hold water. If you don't follow his takes. millions of others do. Also, why you dey try use Davido eff up to muddy the waters and shield Simi?

Egbon, na big 2026 we dey and influence no be by qualification. Simi with her large following and audience, is a thought leader and opinion shaper, so she's expected to be circumspect and disciplined with her words, not drop hot takes and incendiary comments that stoke gender wars.

I encounter people have takes that take the piss and the simple thing to do is block or mute. i have been blocked and muted on the same twitter in the past. You will never encounter only people who agree with you and you will encounter people whose takes annoy you. some people can be reasoned with, some cannot, and some are deliberately obtuse. we have different arguments here about tinubu and APC. so if i double down and say Tinubu is the best president nigeria has ever had people should go all out on an online assault on my person?then again, we have seen some people maliciously rejoicing in larri-des misfortunes.
If blocking works for you, fine. Na your OWN coping mechanism and cup of tea be that. It's not for everyone. Some will ignore, some will respond. There's no general prescription or rule book on how to behave on social media.

On SM, there'll always be people with annoying takes. But when a take is made by a popular person with a huge platform and maligns a specific people, expect push back even from the sensible ones amongst them.

Again, your Tinubu example is apples and oranges. Saying BAT is the best president Nigeria has ever had is a political opinion about governance. You dey rate performance. People will argue with data, hardship, exchange rate, fuel price, security and other metrics.

Simi's situation is different. It touches on gender, crime and morality. It's about how men are perceived and hits people at a personal level so naturally, the temperature will be higher. The emotional stakes are also not the same because Simi's tweet strikes at people's dignity and lived experiences. So your comparison of PBAT praise and the reaction to Simi's grape outburst misses the point and is not balanced.

What they are trying to do is bully a person who does not share their views into silence. create an environment where their own view is law and the only view that can be voiced. That is how you create an echo chamber. Today it is Simi, tomorrow it could be someone else with a much tamer but still unacceptable view to the banger boy mob.
This your bully into silence assertion defies logic. Pray tell, how exactly do you even bully someone into silence on social media? Did they seize her phone? Did they get her accounts banned? She still has all her social media accounts and her huge following. Also, does Simi seem like a kid that can be run off social media?
Who exactly in the past few years has been bullied off social media and stopped posting? Has ulxma stopped posting since she made that tweet that all men deserve to die cos the world would be a safer place without them, and men piled on her?

Okay. assuming they even silence Simi, what about the million others who share the same opinion as her? Will they all go quiet and stop posting too? See social media no be army barracks wey commander go order hin soldiers to shut up, and dem go shout yes sir, and keep mute.

Also, the way you frame this thing, e come be like say Simi na one innocent bystander as na only online reacters you dey blame. It completely removes Simi from the equation like she dropped a take from heaven and people are attacking her for just existing. No accountability at all.

Lastly, NO ONE CAN CREATE AN ECHO CHAMBER ON NIGERIAN SOCIAL MEDIA SPACE. You know why? Different camps dey, Agba John Doe/Wizarab and his Menist clique, Moechevious, Ulxma and the feminist coven, others in other spheres etc. So there can never be one dominant voice or narrative on Nigerian SM because all these forces/groups will challenge and counterbalance themselves. Every situation stands in its own context, and the reactions elicited will depend on what was said, how it was said, and who said it.

any motivated clown can pick anything from peoples post because of agenda. some jokers on this platform have tried to insinuate that i am gay because i have said i dont support persecution of gays. you saw a clown try to claim i am a religious bigot. imho what has happened is SM is a medium where a lot of people who have no power in the real world have some sort of power and will look for people to bully especially if those people do not conform to their narrow world view.
True but that is not what has happened in the Simi case. Again, a simple acknowledgement of the weaponization of false rape accusations wouldn't have diluted her message and would have quenched the fire. She no wise

the most visible people attacking her are those digging out tweets from 20 years ago. those who are making up stories of her molesting toddlers, those who are trying to destroy her marriage to AG, those who are trying to get her visa revoked. on top of what? a hot take? disagreement?
With that post, Simi entered culture war territory and both camps have diehard extremists.

Typically, once an issue enters culture war territory, logic disappears, identity takes over and people start fighting for their sides

Also, there's no telling how far the extremists will go in ideological battles because the loudest and most outrageous become the face of the fight driven by the engagement and clout they receive.

i have had a set of clowns who were cloning my moniker and going round posting different hot takes. these are people who started stalking me because i have views different from theirs.
Pele abi wetin you want make I talk? 😁

Social media is designed like this. you can even see right here on nairaland where topics will be renamed to push engagement and draw outrage. There was a post on FP last week where regina daniels said she bought her mum two brand new cars. i chimed in, nothing the cars we definitely not brand new. later i realised that in the original topic, regina had said she bought her mum two cars. the topic was DELIBERATELY changed to two BRAND NEW CARS because that make an otherwise basic topic into heavy engagement where e would all knock regina daniels for being fake

the model of tiktok in china is completely different from the model of tiktok in the rest of the world. you may not realize how all,of this is rewiring our brains. my attention span is broken. i can no longer watch a video to the end. i have to push myself to do it. we have influencer with no actual knowledge pulling facts out of the air, and people swallow them. we laugh at macaroni, nut secondary school children also watch his videos and get the wrong ideas. did you see the video the other day where peller and another skit maker were smashing their car windscreens? so if some kids now start windscreen smash challenge because of this what next? the mirabel and other clowns are also another symptom - because social media has been designed for rage bait engagement. after that stunt mirabel should be banned from any platform for a year. same for peller. i said earlier i was banned for a month from twitter - this was years ago for a psot where i said an armed robber caught in the act should be beaten up. if it was that pre elon twitter, most of the people attacking simi would likely have ben banned and it wold not have gotten to this level.
You are mixing too many things together and unnecessarily conflating issues. Focus!.

You are blaming moderators for the topics they push to frontpage.

You want govt to hold tech moguls on the blokus so they can draw syllabus for Nigerian Social media.

You blame the algorithm for your short attention span.

You blame skit makers for broken windscreens.

You blame influencers for children’s behaviour.

You blame Elon-era moderation for why the backlash escalated.

At what point do people take personal responsibility?

Social media amplifies drama so headlines get tweaked to draw traffic and engagements. We know that.

But this particular issue did not start because of China’s TikTok model or Nairaland frontpage topic. It started because somebody got involved in a culture war and said something that people strongly disagreed with. Everything else you're adding is noise.

its easy to knock simi because false rape accusations are a sensitive issue. but that is not what this is really about. it is about shutting up people who do not share the opinions of the banger boy mob. today simi , tomorrow someone who says women are as competent as men in the work place.
Again, nobody, no group can shut down anyone from stating their opinions on social media. I don talk this one before. It's also about false grape accusations because the story that caused Simi's outburst turned out to be false. How can you not acknowledge that?

PS: I will not be responding further.

But she didn't really cause this in the sense that most of these guys/gals are simply toxic, bitter and angry and are looking for any reason to start a pile on.

Do you have the energy or motivation or lack of anything going on in your life to start going through 20 years of a person's post history? Are you so desperate to destroy a person that you will take anything the person has written in the past and twist it out of context?

If you are this kind of person you are constantly looking for an opportunity to start a vicious smear campaign in the guise of 'looking for justice'

This is what I was being warned aboutr when I put up a made up post about flint1. It is the kind of thing one bitter and toxic soul would bring up 10 years later if he/she has a grouse against the flint1

Really and truly social media has fked people up and governments need to start coming down hard on these tech moguls.

All of this is by design. Even here you can see the same thing with the topics pushed to FP and with the changes in the name of the topic to drive engagement.

Once any issue is seized by SM you have to step back and try to find the actual story, not the tweaked and embellished one.

Sha avoid putting any personal info of your out here before some sad angry and miserable soul decides tomorrow to start engaging your transportees for agenda.
Lol. Wetin be this? You dey sleep type abi wetin cos how can you absolve Simi of blame in this issue?

See Simi is not one random Nigerian with 500 followers. She's a big Nigerian artiste with a huge following and lots of influence. At that level, her words carry weight so she gats dey circumspect and not post recklessly.

When she made that initial tweet, and was challenged about false rape accusations against men, she should have acknowledged it, and said something like "false rape accusers should be made to face the full wrath of the law", c'est fini. But instead she deflected and doubled down, and that drew the ire of Nigerian men.

Nobody forced her to make sweeping statements about men. Nobody hacked her account. Nobody dug up a private diary. She said what she said publicly, lots of men felt insulted and reacted publicly. It's simply a case of action and consequence.

You dey talk about vicious smear campaign. No be she start am with that silly outburst against men based on the mirabel story which ultimately turned out to be false? You dey ask who get time to go through 20 years of post history? Bro, na Naija be this and the majority of youths are unemployed. In addition, celebrity dragging na clout and engagement magnet. Also, when she positions herself as morally superior and comes at men like that, people will check her history to see if her past aligns or to find dirt to throw at her. Na so social media, especially X be.

It's too convenient to label everyone who has criticized her as toxic and bitter. Some people are dragging her out of spite. Others are reacting because they feel insulted. These two truths can co-exist and we shouldn't reduce every pushback to a coordinated hate mob.

Because of this Simi issue wey go die down in a week, you want FG to come down hard on tech moguls? Lol. Wetin that one go achieve? Tomorrow, FG will use that same energy to regulate social media, the only active opposition platform and silence the citizens who criticize them. Think am well o.

There's absolutely no need to turn Simi into a helpless victim of an online mob. She insulted men. They challenged her. She doubled down, deflected and told them to STFU. People piled on, and are holding her accountable to face the consequences of her action.

She go dey alright last last, and hopefully she go use the experience get sense too.

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, just did what many Africans and Europeans would never do — and it even prompted a U.S. man to swear he would carry all Nigerians free of charge.

While on vacation in the U.S., he met a taxi driver who had once picked him up from the airport, now homeless and now living in the street after losing everything to a robbery and eventually lead to eviction.

Touched by his story, Stanley asked him to wait, then went to a dealership, bought him a brand-new taxi, and also got him an apartment.

The man was overwhelmed by the unexpected kindness and, in his excitement, vowed to carry all Nigerians free of charge, but Stanley humbly told him not to.

It's a little disappointing you're running on a presumption that the $130k is solely his.

That figure is for him and three men at least. Of which one among them, a fitness trainer, has a UEFA A license.

Besides, in negotiations everyone starts with figures that give wiggle room. Imagine the other 3+ might be 30% of whatever amount they agree to.

Finally, there is NO perk he listed freaking aza men of NFF don't enjoy. A driver and a SUV? A house with standby electricity? Tickets to travel internationally and locally? C'mon now!
You are the one assuming wrongly that I don't know the 130k is inclusive of his three assistants.

My stance is the status quo should be maintained for now. Whatever arrangement Chelle's foreign assistants were paid under (matches, bonuses, performance-based incentives etc) by the NFF should continue.

If he was comfortable with the terms of his contract when he signed on, what has changed now?

Did he qualify the team for the world cup? Did he win the AFCON?

Check his managerial records. Na so so short stints full am. So he also needs some managerial stability with a team that is primed for success and Nigeria offers him that. He's only coached Nigeria since January 2025, and in that short span, he's gotten more visibility and exposure than in his entire coaching career. Imagine what he can possibly achieve if he stays on till 2028.

Every coach has his season. Eric Chelle is in his. He should focus on the football and results. He should institutionalise his playing style so it is not so dependent on specific players. Scout for more players and have a pool of about 40 quality players. 3/4 players per position. Qualify for AFCON convincingly. Win an AFCON. Take the Super Eagles to top 20 of FIFA ranking.

That is how he will build leverage. For now, he should focus on performance and not contract renegotiation.

Is it the incompetent and dysfunctional NFF that owes players bonuses and does not pay his 50k salary on time that will now deliver on 130k with the extra (standard) perks. I laugh in spanish.

This has nothing to do with the demands besides u can’t compare d Malian 🇲🇱 job with the Nigerian 🇳🇬 job …it’s an upgrade.
Oga, it has everything to do with it. It's an indication and realistic assessment of his level because coaches have pay grades too.
Moreover, bigger football nation/pedigree does not equal better pay. For example, Nigeria is a bigger football brand than Angola but check the numbers.

Angola is probably the #2 or #3 top oil producing country in Africa behind Nigeria but has a higher GDP per capita due to its smaller population. This translates to better income per head, and more budgetary provisions for sports and football so it offers better salaries to foreign managers. Thats the reason they can comfortably offer Eric Chelle $100k to take him away from Nigeria.

Now. make I enter Eric Chelle matter.

The NFF gave him two targets when they appointed him as coach.

1. Qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
2. Reach the AFCON 2026 Final.

Did he meet those KPIs. If the answer is NO, then he has no leverage or leg to stand on to be demanding an upgraded contract of $130k with additional perks from the NFF.

Granted, Eric Chelle had the Super Eagles play the most beautiful and dominant football we've seen in the last 10 years (against Algeria) but beautiful football ≠ trophy. Also under Chelle, the Super Eagles had the most listless performance (WCQ playoff against DR Congo) we've seen in years.

But the bottomline is, he has not achieved anything and is not negotiating from a position of strength.

How many countries were queuing to appoint him as coach apart from Nigeria before NFF appointed him? Let's not even forget that he was third choice behind Bruno Labbadia, Tom Saintfient and it was when those two became unavailable that the NFF opted for him.

Look. there are two types of coaches; those who have been sacked and those who will be sacked. No coach is indispensable, certainly not Eric Chelle.

He has not won a major trophy. He is not a top-rated elite coach in Europe. He has not built a long-term tactical system. ......and nothing buttresses this more than the contractual terms he was offered by Olympique Marseille. 4 months contract. Win the FA cup and finish 3rd in league to obtain a 1 year permanent contract. Those are not the terms a club offers a coach they rate. There are even rumours that the Olympique Marseille link was planted and amplified to use as leverage and armtwist the NFF to renegotiate his contract.

Eric Chelle is a good coach and I rate him highly. He also fits the kind of coaching profile I want for the Super Eagles. Attack-minded, low-budget, "tactically dynamic", fast learning curve, ruthless decision making and continuous scouting for players.

Nigeria has a deep coaching market appeal. Little known European coaches that are eager to make a name for themselves and build their CVs/profile, assistant coaches in top European clubs, Nigerian/African diasporans, Accomplished coaches from other african countries etc will queue for the job. The platform of the Nigeria national football team is bigger than any single coach.

$50k is definitely not top-tier remuneration for foreign coaches in Africa but it's also not bottom-tier too.

Eric Chelle should calm down. He shouldn't rock the boat unnecessarily. The next two AFCONs are just round the corner. He needs to build coaching stability. He needs to qualify convincingly for AFCON. He needs to deliver results consistently overtime. He needs to win silverware (AFCON) and the Super Eagles is his best chance to do this. When he has achieved these, he can then renegotiate for an upgraded contract from a position of strength.

Away from the Grape issues, una dey see the doctored and mutilated result sheets wey dem upload for IREV in the Abuja Municipal election?

Na why I no put mouth for the whole amendment of electoral act and electronic transmission of results issue because I felt it was misplaced and a waste of time.

We have to adopt EVMs and go 100% electronic voting and collation of results if we're ever going to have credible elections .

The same deserving condemnation Ezra got is what she deserves. But men make excuses for women so...

Same excuses many men made for Natasha Akpoti when she falsely accused Reno of ràpe.

Yesterday was my birthday and I can't find a reason to celebrate. It feels like I'm hustling backwards. Salary is no longer enough. You will hustle, pay bribe, talk, beg and plead to get side contracts to support salary and yet bills swallow everything like you're not doing enough.

Landlords are raising rents every year. And it started from 2023 when this man got on that chair. Between 2023 and today, my rent has increased 344%. I don't think anyone can out-hate me when it comes to Tinubu.

I travelled recently and saw the infrastructural strides and can't take that away from him but my quality of life has seriously nose dived.
PBAT's declaration that "subsidy is gone" go far gaan. It changed things overnight and plunged Nigerians into cataclysmic depths never seen before.

In addition to the extra hustles, you gats adopt some aggressive cost-saving measures, if you haven't already.
