CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A Goose Creek resident says a venomous snake got caught in the stroller as she was taking a walk with her 3-month-old daughter in the Brickhope Greens neighborhood.

Janna McNabney says she didn’t realize the snake was there at first.

“I thought my wheel got stuck, so I did what we all do and push it back and forth to get it unstuck,” McNabney said. “Well, I saw something flopping around and found this.”

She's sending a reminder to people to keep a look out for snakes this time of year and posted about the incident online to warn others.

She says when she first saw it she thought the snake was crawling up the stroller, so all she could think about was getting her baby out of the stroller.

McNabney and her daughter are both safe.

She says her husband was at work when the incident happened and her mother-in-law got the snake out of the wheel.



A wildlife expert says the snake appears to be a Cottonmouth and is also known as a water moccasin.

McNabney says her dogs were bitten by a Copperhead snake last year in her backyard.

A 16-foot-long albino Burmese python was captured in Australia this week, with a veteran snake catcher saying it was one of the largest serpents he had ever encountered.

Reptile expert Tony Harrison captured the huge animal Monday after it slithered onto the doorstep of a woman living in Oxenford, a suburb of Gold Coast in Queensland. He said it weighed approximately 80 kgs (176 pounds) and was likely imported into the country illegally.
The snake, an invasive species in Australia, appeared to have a missing tail. Images shared to Facebook by Harrison showed that it had injuries on its body.

"This poor little old lady answered the front door of her house and there's this snake sitting on her doorstep," the snake catcher, whose business covers Gold Coast and Brisbane, told ABC. "I'd say that somebody's just had it for a pet for years and it's just pushed its way out of its enclosure."

Harrison wrote on Facebook: "Can I just say WOW!!! A huge albino Burmese python! How damn beautiful is this snake?! It's such a shame that they are illegal here in Australia." He told ABC: "Snakes can eat three times their girth, and this snake is as thick as your thigh."

Harrison conceded it was upsetting that the animal had to be euthanized, but warned in a video that it could have done serious damage to the country's native ecosystem. If left to roam free, he said the snake could have spread disease while posing a danger to native species, pets and wildlife.

He explained: "If there was anything that could possibly be done to save this snake's life I would do it. But... that is just adding to the mess up of our ecosystem.

"It introduces diseases, if they escape those animals compete with our existing native animals for food and it really upsets the ecosystem. This particular snake, not only will it compete, it will eat people's dogs and cats, literally, that would eat a Staffy [Staffordshire Bull Terrier]. So, it is a threat," he added.

Harrison said a zoo would be unlikely to take the breed of Burmese python partly due to its scrappy appearance, but also because it may carry disease and they already have others in captivity.

The catcher elaborated: "I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that would want to keep it in their collection, because it's such a big, impressive, animal. But it's a risk to our ecosystem. There's not a lot we can do. Although it's really frigging sad, it's for the greater good.

In a statement, a Biosecurity Queensland spokesperson told ABC: "Burmese pythons are powerful animals, capable of inflicting severe bites and/or causing death by constriction,"

"The Burmese python is well known to be highly invasive, particularly in Florida, where a large number of pythons can now be found in the Florida Everglades. Due to their size, many escape or are released into the wild, and become invasive species that devastate the environment."

The current fine for keeping a prohibited reptile like the python is A$133,450 ($77,000), local media reported. The owner of this particular snake remains unknown at the time of writing.

In Florida, the snake is an invasive species and considered a threat to native wildlife, found around the Everglades, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The Federal Government has filed charges against four supermarkets and their proprietors in Abuja for alleged arbitrary hike of prices of sanitisers, handwash liquids, disinfectants, and other anti-bacterial hygiene products.

Court documents made available to Channels Television by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council (FCCPC) named the four supermarkets, which also include their pharmacies as H-Medix Pharmacy and Stores Limited, Prince Ebeano Supermarket Limited and its proprietor, David Ojei, and Bakan Gizo Pharmacy & Stores Nigeria Limited.

The others are Ray Opia and Luter Irene and their representatives, Sandra Ejekwu and John Oluwagbemiga, as well as Faxx Stores & Trading Limited and its representative, Adogah Ahmed.

In the statement of claim filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, the FCCPC preferred a six-counts against the four supermarkets and their owners.

The charges against them are for violating section 125 (1) (a) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018, and punishable under section 155 of the Federal Competition And Consumer Protection Act, 2018.

The four supermarkets were also charged with supplying hand sanitisers and surgical disposable face masks of various existing brands to consumers at a price that was manifestly unfair, unreasonable and unjust.

They were also accused of disobeying without lawful excuse, the lawful orders and directives of the FCCPC against such practices.

The commission said the allegations against the accused were discovered following complaints from consumers through various social media channels, as well as visits to their supermarkets and pharmacies by representatives of its surveillance and enforcement office.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, on Monday, said the lockdown of the state has been shifted to Friday.

Abiodun said the state government made a request to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to shift the lockdown which was supposed to take place on Monday night to Friday, April 3, 2020, and has been granted.

He said the request was to prepare for the lockdown by providing food for the people.

When I think back to all the unhappy and frustrating times in my life, I realize now that I prolonged these experiences because I spend too much time in my head. Martin Seligman an American psychologist, educator, and author of self-help books is a strong promoter within the scientific community of his theories of positive psychology and of well-being. He says that the three leading causes of negative thoughts for most people are:

Fear of the Future – people can fear the unknown and as a result, they start thinking that the worst things can happen – such as failure and disaster. The future hasn’t happened and so people who fear it are distracted from living in the present, which is where they have more control over how they live their lives.
Anxiety about the Present – many of us, however, do worry about what others think of us, what the traffic will be like going home or if we are doing a good job. If we are in an environment or in a relationship that is toxic we are more susceptible to negative thoughts.
Regret about the Past – everyone does things that they are embarrassed or ashamed of. People who are prone to negative thinking tend to dwell on past mistakes and failures more than others.

No matter what causes your negative thoughts, you can manage them with some strategies. Start dealing with your negative thinking as soon as you recognize that negative thinking is about to become a big problem in your life.

5 Steps To Manage Your Negative Thinking

I don’t believe you can stop your negative thinking once and for all. That is an impossible task to achieve.

A more realistic and achievable approach and one more sustainable is to learn strategies on how to manage your negative thinking so that you have control over how you want to live your life – not handing control over to your negative thoughts.
1. Challenge Your Negative Thoughts

This strategy to apply takes time and practice – you will not have control of your thoughts overnight. So be prepared and committed to practising this strategy on a daily basis.

This strategy is all about teaching yourself how to counter negate your negative thoughts. There are 5 questions you can ask yourself either in your head or as I prefer writing my answers down in my journal:

Is this thought true? Is there a basis for this negative belief?
Is this thought giving your power or is it taking away your power
Can you put a positive spin on this thought or learn from it?
What would it be like if you didn’t have these negative thoughts?
Is this negative thought hiding you from issues you need to address?

2. Distract Your Negative Thoughts By Focusing on Something Else

Visualization is a useful strategy to help you distract yourself from your negative thoughts. Try to picture yourself doing an activity that you love to do – for example shopping, reading books, listening to music etc. The key is to train your brain to think about something completely different for at least 30 seconds.

Be disciplined in trying this technique. Over time, you will have trained your brain to go in a different direction every time your negative thoughts come up.
3. The Balloon Exercise – Throw Away Your Negative Thoughts

I love this strategy the most. Essentially, what you are doing here is throwing your negative thoughts away.

Clearing your head of negative thoughts by writing them down and letting them go in a physical way releases you from a lot of negative energy. Some people write down their negative thoughts on a piece of paper, screw the paper up and throw in the rubbish bin.

I like to write my negative thoughts fears and regrets on an inflated balloon and then release them into the sky. At the same time, you are saying (yelling out loud) goodbye to your fears, regrets and negative thoughts!
4.Surround Yourself With Positive People
