With a sad and heavy heart, I'm writing to seek your advice and/or recommendations.

My mum is late. She died 2 years ago and since her demise, everything has turned left for us - her children. We were deserted and left to fend for ourselves by our uncles, aunties, and other relatives that we thought were with us when my mum was alive. My dad is still alive but he only pretends to care about us. I can't even remember the last time he has done something good for any of us. Our school fees, food, everything, were taken care of by my mum.

During my time Some people found it hard to find a place that would take them so they just gave up and formulated stuff for their defense(was funny but you wouldn't blame them most small firms dont have IT programs in place)

Some didn't get paid after being told they would and ended their own there.

most people were promised jobs. some did hire and retain during my time.

Many many talk. still it was a blast. part of life's experience. connected with some amazing people.

MY OWN EXPERIENCE
Well I did mine in a small marine firm at port Harcourt they were small but money they were pulling in was no joke. perks were amazing. they paid 40k for 6 months. I saved as much as I could.

Had an amazing boss. guy no get wahala he knew how to impart knowledge. connected with a lot of pretty co workers after IT reunion with them was the bomb. we shared a lot of ideas though.

it was around 5:30 pm today, when I was coming from site , I was exhausted and angry, I had gone to see one of my client not far from a neigbouring street I was working, because I was going to see this man, I had carefully dressed myself well as opposed to a normal day I'll put on my boots and helmet with some casual jean and shirt....


I had concluded my meeting with the client and used the opportunity to branch a nearby supermarket to get some grocery for my siblings and parents as I was visiting home before I return to lagos....


I had boarded a bike on my way home when suddenly as we where about to enter an intersection, people where calling my attention and the bike's man attention to turn back, that SCID policemen where at the checkpoint illegally checking people's phone and detaining them in a small taxi, I told the bike man to move as I was not guilty of anything fraudulent or was into yahoo, my confidence was kindled by the fact that I was clean....


As we where approaching their illegal checkpoint ,one of the incompetent goat just suddenly charged at the bike in an unprofessional manner with red eye and ask the bike man if he's stupid enough he didn't hear he should stop....

They where four in number, 2 of them stopped me in a manner I almost fell from the bike, the bike stopped and I greeted them, I was asked to get down and identify myself, I told them I'm an architect, I was returning from site, they looked. and looked me from down to up, up to down as I made reference to some yahoo boy or something...


These guys where just mannerless, harassing me with verbal abuse and non professional conduct, that was how one asked me to open my phone, I initially resisted as it was really absurd they weren't allowed to do that but hey this is nigeria... I was doing gra gra when kne landed me iforun on the back of my neck, in the midst of people watching, the embarrassed me flawlessly, after much resistance threatening me with gun and these triggered happy bastard....


I opened my phone , they went through my Gmail straight, checked my gallery with bunch of site picture of bricklayer mixing mortar, they checked checked and checked, asked for my id card, I showed them, they got nothing and where reluctant to return my phone to me because of how stupid they felt , people where already gathering ....


Minutes later they gave me phone as I drove off in sheer disappointment leaving behind guys they've arrested in their car , dressing has been used to tag guys who are potential g boys now, you have to dress like a mad person these days to avoid crazy scenario's like this....

This is just one of three encounter I experienced in a week...stay safe out there, these people will kill you before your ad time oo

Bro I can totally relate to your pain. It seems most people are intimidated by young & successful people. The nicer you want to seem, the more people want to take it for granted. They feel you don't deserve to be in that position & they deserve a piece of your pie.
You have to treat Business as business. Always have your job satisfaction as your priority and not the feelings/happiness/welfare of your workers. Always act formal on site & start keeping a serious face.
Trust no one cuz it's a COLD world out there.

Thanks boss , I'll implement this method, I just like to create an atmosphere of no tension whenever people are working for me, I guess it's not working, I can be mad atimes but it's not my nature, I'm very silent and act with one strike, but I guess the system has been porous to many people to the extent they forget their ethics when coming to work, this is more likely my second project I'm working on so I get it I'm new, I hope experience gathered from this would shape me into a better person but with a more reserved way of handling my employee psychologicallly... Everyone has to benefit but definitely not through stealing form me ..thanks

Modified - - as a supervisor, whatever goes on in that site depends on how you manage it. Make someone a scape goat in that site and see things change for the better..
I don't handle my workers with iron hands in fact, I am very lenient with them but If just one person do anyhow, I make sure everyone involve suffer for it...
Am the coolest person you can ever meet but with a touch of mushin madness

Ok, see this as part of learning and experience acquisition, there is no other better of getting experience if not by doing.


You can now carefully select your team from them putting into consideration their expertise in getting the job done and integrity.......put more effort in selecting those who are good at getting the job done and less effort on integrity as that can be easily change by strict measures......speaking from experience

I can relate to this. I sacked my engineer and all his workers for similar acts. The most surprising part was that they all planned and agreed on how to delay my project so that I would spend more while they also make more money.

Its better you sack then now before they sack you.

OP u are supose to give ur workers orientation from time to time so that they knw how you work, what u like, what u dont tolerate and how best to work with u smoothly. Thats what i do with my workers and it works.
Anybody who steals must be properly santioned, although such vices by informal workers can only be reduced drasticaly, not completely eliminated

Accountability is key. 10 sacks of cement ... who is responsible? Emeka. Put secret marks on each sack. At the end of the day ... 2 sacks remained. Lol I've experienced worse sir..... this stuff define ones experience over time....it baffles how someone would think they are always smarter than the person that employed you to work

same thing nearly happen to me but thank God I'm smarter than them, I will tell them to do the calcutions of every thing needed for the particular then give me the list, I will go straight to the market and price everything in different stores. Then when I'm ready I call them along to get it together. I also stay with them on site till complete the work. During my foundation, the first brickalayer was trying to play smart on me, I told him to fill the just small pillars with concrete, he told me he will take two boss and 2 servers along. I argue with him that this is a small job that only him can complete self but he said no. Well I told him to go there and fill it before them carry the iron go. So he called me the day he was going and asked if I'm coming to site, I said no that I'm going somewhere. In the afternoon, I carry bike enter site and he was very shocked to see me, I saw only him working, I asked him what about the rest then he started lying that they quickly went down somewhere to do small work for 1 person. I told him to tell them to collect there money from where they are working. Na vex I just comot for site, go report am to person wey recommend am for me. I have to sack him from the job instantly. He was telling people to beg but I stand on order. Very greedy human being. Since then, all other workers no dey try shit with me, I no dey give them face sef.
