It's not a necessity to agree but I think you got it wrong while attributing or downplaying the episode to some sort of ego battle.
I've seen cases where the customer lambasted a driver for not carrying alight stack of umbrellas into her compound. She insulted the guy for lack of customer care and all that. Until we made her see reason that it's even good for safety precautions that a guy is not allowed inside a silent and gated compound before eshe grudgingly apologized.
By and large, we should just try to be fair in our day to day life.
