My point is that some of the most strident Nigerian voices on SA affairs have absolutely nothing to say about the goings on in their country, Nigeria. I just ran a casual check on one username on this thread who's very critical of SA (both people and government). He has said nothing on this PFIPC matter since the news broke. Absolutely nothing. And there'll no doubt be others like him/her on this platform. And yet there are still others who fight South Africans - and then come online to defend the indefensible about the BAT administration.

The point remains a majority of Nigerians on this forum discuss "Nigerian issues". Expecting "ALL" Nigerians to chip in on ALL problematic issues in Nigeria on a Nigerian platform defeats the objective of a diversified view of thought or interest.

We can walk and chew gum at the same time is a statement used in reference to Nigerians as a "collective" on nairaland and not individual contributions to political topics here in this forum.

Many Nigerians in SA are economic migrants. They are in the informal sector. Some are undocumented. They are largely unskilled or semi-skilled. They are not wealthy migrants arriving on business visas or FIPs. This causes all sorts of problems - and not just in South Africa.

If we get it together and Nigeria starts working (if not for all of us then at least the majority of us), then our migration story will change significantly.

I do not disagree with the above statement however trying to guilt shame a fleeing majority of mostly middle-class Nigerians who throughout the history of Nigeria have attempted in many cases to bring about change in the country and have been met with an overwhelming show of force, by accusing them of non-participation in vigorous discussions and mobilization on a Nigerian platform does not inspire me.

Many of us have already gone that route, some have given their lives, and many of are still here fighting for the Nigerian project to succeed.

2. The programs, again, have been around since 1917. It does not constitute cheap labor as you claim as their is nothing cheap about a worker getting paid at least minimum wage same as every other worker out there. Labor is labor so long as it is paid at minimum market value.

The reports literally explain that the plan is to enforce the migrant farmer programs which I posted(U.S has had a similar a program 1917 that allowed migrant workers to come into the U.S. legally, without receiving citizenship or the benefits thereof). See my previous post for link to the Government program that exists to date.

1.If they have had a "guest worker" program since 1917, why have they not been able to establish fair wages since that point in time.

2. The introduction of these "programs" you allude to does not diminish the point that these "guest" workers constitute cheap labor and thus the backbone of the agricultural sector in comparison to the situation in South Africa where the ZImbabweans also filled these roles so I am not sure what point you are trying to make at this point?

Let's carry out a simple test right now. Pick a random sample of usernames on this thread blasting South Africans - and check if those usernames have said anything constructive about this PFIPC matter. The results may surprise you.

You are being selective in your sample size. A larger number of threads on nairaland are about Nigerian issues in which we constructively engage and dispute.

The assertion in itself is absurd when you consider the facts behind the idea. The government has been removing on average, 3000 illegals every day, and the agricultural sector has yet to buckle. On the contrary, the agricultural sector has been receiving tremendous boosts from the government to hire more documented workers and provide better work conditions for them as well.

Getting paid $40 a day for farm work is atrocious and should not be encouraged for any reason.

Please present the counter to the below articles with evidence where I can confirm the info above.

They won't demonstrate or protest for transparency or integrity in government.
They won't demand answers from their representatives or senators.

They won't get involved and stay the course.

By all means hold South Africa responsible for the assault or murder of foreigners on South African soil. There are channels to ensure that justice is served and South Africa knows this.

That many farmers have in the past taken to hiring undocumented migrants whom they then pay lower wages to and subject them to what amounts to slave labor, as opposed to hiring documented migrant workers for higher wages, does not make the undocumented migrants the backbone which you claim.

How does all that you have written invalidate the ascertion that if you were to abruptly remove these illegals that work in the agricultural sector as Trump attempted that would cripple the industry in the short and long term.

I find myself conflicted at times, jostling between the two concepts and notice that this debate is intensified when there is a perceived lack of abundance of resources.

As you say we all have inalienable rights, but when one right is "deemed" to be infringing on the rights of the other, that in of itself becomes the conundrum to resolve.
