I feel that western leaders and media haven’t been disciplined enough to distinguish between Vladimir Putin and the people of Russia when they talk about the war in Ukraine and the economic sanctions the West responded with. Despite referring to the war as “Putin’s war” at various points, and occasionally pointing out that their enemy is Putin, rather than the Russian people who are also victims of the Putin regime, many of their statements fail to make the distinction.

Making the distinction is very important because the people of Russia are potential allies in the fight against the Putin regime in Russia. They are the only ones who can end the Putin regime without the risk of being nuked. The west has to make it clear that the sanctions are meant to punish and weaken the Putin regime. It must be made clear that if the Russian people can replace the Putin regime with a more peaceful government, their economic hardships will end. The sanctions will end.

The people of Russia are victims of Vladimir Putin too. He stole their country which was on the path to democracy and now he’s sacrificing the lives of their sons to steal another country. He imprisons, tortures and kills Russians who dare to speak against him. He uses state-owned media to brainwash them. While other countries are focused on building strong economies, the Putin government forces Russians to waste their lives in unnecessary wars that attract painful sanctions.

The office of the Vice-President has released a video showing Muslim appointees working with him.

The video was released amid allegations that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is biased against Muslims.

On Monday, Osinbajo finally declared his presidential ambition after several weeks of speculations.

Shortly after the declaration, Farooq Kperogi, a professor of journalism in the US, had in an article accused the vice-president of religious bigotry.

In the video released on Wednesday, 16 Muslims — comprising five females and 11 males — spoke about their positions, their states of origin and how long they have been working in the vice-president’s office.

Below are the names of Muslim appointees listed in the video:

You don't understand international politics very well am sorry. You forgot the same sanctions were placed on North Korea for years and yet the survived to the point that the West does not have leverage over them today, sanctions sometimes is good, it helps you look in words and prevents over reliance on others, I tell you, if Russia whethers the storm of this sanctions, prepare yourself for a new World Power.

Did North Korea become a new world power as a result of sanctions? What about Cuba? How are they doing? What about Iran? Russia did weather the storm of sanctions in 2014 in the sense that they survived, but their economy never recovered. The future of Russia is bleak.

The neutrality of Ukraine, which zelensky has agreed to. The crushing of all nazi elements in ukraine and the recognition of Donbas and lugansk as independent states. Ofcourse some of these are something that would never be agreed to by ukraine. This is where the so called democratic western countries should come in and make another proposal to Putin on behalf of Ukraine if they really want to see this war comes to an end. Encouraging more fighting which they are doing the more the send more hardwares to Ukraine wouldn't stop the war. It would as you said earlier, make the russians pull back, regroup and attack with more lethal and advanced hardwares than theyve already use. Let's all encourage peace

All of Putin's demands are either things that Putin doesn't actually care about (e.g Nazis) or things such as demilitarization that will make it easier for Putin to get what he actually wants: Ukraine.

This is not an emotional war. Putin didn't start the war out of hatred of Ukraine or because his feelings were hurt by Ukraine or because he was retaliating against something that Ukraine did to him in the past. This is not a grudge match; it's an armed robbery. It's a kidnapping. Putin attacked Ukraine because he wants Ukraine. He wants their oil & gas, their ports, and to boost his domestic popularity by winning a war.

De-escalation and appeasement are helpful when a fight is due to hatred, such as the hatred between Shias and Sunnis or between Israelis and Palestinians. It's completely useless when you're dealing with a conqueror like Adolf Hitler or Vladimir Putin. Western powers tried to appease Hitler because they thought he was just acting out because of Germany's humiliation in World War I. They were wrong.

US/UK and EU civilians are safe and they are encouraging him to escalate the war, just because, according to them, they want to cripple Russia's economy.

Putin will keep taking more and more of Ukraine and other surrounding countries as long as he has the capacity to wage war. Crippling Russia's economy looks like the best way to diminish his ability to wage war, because modern warfare is very expensive. It can cost billions of dollars a day. Zelenskyy is well aware of the motivation of the West, as revealed in his interview with the Economist.

Zelensky is safe in the bunker with his family, while majority of his people are not so fortunate.

Zelenskyy has a 90% approval rating, which suggests that the majority of Ukrainians support the decisions he has made regarding this war.

It's time for sincere negotiation and deescalation, rather than all this grandstanding, and calling for more weapons.

You can't have "sincere negotiations" with someone who has never been sincere. The severe weakening of Russia or the replacement of Vladimir Putin with a leader who is not bent on conquest are the only two things that can keep Ukraine safe. It is necessary to have peace talks, but we all know that a peace deal with Russia under Putin is as useless as what was written on the piece of paper in the picture below:

Meanwhile, Yes, Ukraine has the right to bomb Russian oil depot too. But denying it after bombing it is what? Yes stupid. 1. Denying it is smart. Russia would like to use the strike to justify using chemical weapons or tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Accepting credit for the strike would make it easier for the Russians to do that, so that's not smart. Russia has been lying about their aggressive actions against Ukraine since 2014 in order to confuse the opposition. I see no reason why Ukraine can't do the same to Russia.

2. The peace talks are a sham. Both Zelenskyy and Putin know this. The only reason why Russia pulled back is because they were unable to achieve their objective. The purpose of the peace talks is just to give Russia more time to regroup and accumulate weapons of war and supplies so that they can attack Ukraine again at the earliest chance. Ukraine needs not worry about offending Russia's feelings because Russia has no heart.

Yet Ukraine doesn't have the right to bomb a fuel depot with zero casualties? Russia started this war and one of the consequences of war is that the people you're fighting will fight back. Don't start a war if you don't want that. Russia is the aggressor here.

Because of Russia, millions of civilians have fled Ukraine and their economy is basically destroyed for the foreseeable future. The effect of the West's sanctions on Russians are nothing in comparison. Their civilians are living in comfort. The currency dropped a little bit. It's not fair.

It's not about morality. It's about predictability and reliability. The West is a predictable system whose interests are well understood and reasonable. They are accountable to their people, who have the freedom to criticise and remove them. When they make mistakes, they learn from their mistakes and strive to do better. For example, after revelations of their torture of Iraqis, they largely outlawed it. Leaders are removed before power corrupts them completely. There's a reason why every Nigerian wants to Japa to US or UK or Canada or Australia and not China or Russia or Iran or North Korea. The West is simply better. Not perfect, not saintly, but still much better.
