PoliticsGood Governance And Patriotic Leadership: The Paseda Example by seunowokade(op): 11:03am On Sep 15, 2017
By Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji

According to the popular socialist and former Nigeria’s Health Minister, Alh. Aminu Kano in one of his chronicles, postulated that “Nigeria will know no peace, until the son of nobody becomes somebody, without knowing anybody”.

The above submission by the elderstateman epitomizes the belief and political ideology of Otunba Rotimi Paseda (ORP). Prince Rotimi Paseda, a businessman cum politician broke the age long barrier in the political system of Ogun State, Nigeria by venturing into politics without attaching himself to the apron string of some godfathers who without their endorsement no one can dare contest an elective position in Nigeria.

Born on 22nd June, 1965, Prince Olatunde Rotimi Paseda hails from Omu-Ijebu in the Eastern part of Ogun State. He is a UK/Mexico based business man. He came from a family of five, his mother was a retired teacher in public service and his dad was a store keeper at PZ, Paterzon Zochonic Nigeria Limited in the 60s. He started his career in PZ and ended his career in PZ. He was the longest serving staff at that point. Today, Otunba Rotimi Paseda is well-known as Omo Iya Teacher (Teacher’s son).

Paseda attended Baptist Academy, Lagos for His O'level. He thereafter travelled abroad for his University education. He attended the University of London, Berbeck College, UK where he studied Transport Management and later got his Post Graduate Diploma in Tourism and Recreation Management from University of Cardiff, Wales, UK.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport, United Kingdom, and worked briefly as European Air Tour Operator with Euro Skyhop International before establishing Skylink Travels and Tours over twenty-five years ago. This was the commencement of his self-employment venture in the United Kingdom and Worldwide.

Otunba Paseda, not minding the herculean task and daunting challenges before him, entered into the governorship race with only three months to prepare for the Governorship election in the State alongside the incumbent, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, PDP flagbearer, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka. Though, he was not declared winner of the keenly contested election that almost plugged the State into chaos, as he is from nowhere came (3rd). Paseda believes in the popular Yoruba adage…”Ti esin ba dani, a ma ntun gun ni”. Little wonder, he is once again seeking the support of the good people of Ogun State come 2019.

Paseda, worried about the economic effects on the people, established "Paseda Legacy Foundation", a non-governmental organization to better the lives of the downtrodden in the society. ORP as fondly called, through his foundation, PLF has empowered hundreds of youths, the aged, market women, students and health challenged victims at the hospitals.

A testimony to many of his kind gestures include: donation of Millions of Naira to young entrepreneurs who graduated from his Achievers Youths Initiatives Skills Acquisition training for many people in Obafemi/Owode local government of the State, flying out a nine year-old Oluwatosin Solanke who has a kidney disease to India for surgery, complete payment of leg surgery for Animasahun Ismail who was to be amputated by local surgeon, but Otunba Rotimi Paseda saved the victim at Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta with his prompt intervention, purchase of laptop computers for Gateway Polytechnic ICT Students, who ran to his Foundation for help, provision of affordable and conducive accommodation for victims whose houses were demolished by the Ogun State Government for road construction and could not get compensation, free scholarship for Itoku Market collapsed building victims' children for their secondary education among many others.

2019: PASEDA MEETS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMEN OF UPN, CHARGES THEM TO BE STEADFAST.

The 2015 UPN Governorship candidate in Ogun State, Otunba Rotimi Paseda has charged Local Government Chairmen of the Party to remain steadfast and committed in the face of political crisis rocking opposition Parties in the State.

Paseda gave the charge on Wednesday during a Town Hall meeting with the Chairmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

He emphasized that the political tsunami in the country portends good omen for UPN come 2019, as the Party echelons are in alliance talk with aggrieved members from the opposition Parties in the State.

He therefore commended the Local Government Chairmen, for their loyalty and unflinching support since 2015 general elections.

PoliticsWhy You Must Vote Prince Rotimi Paseda by seunowokade(op): 12:50am On Sep 13, 2017
Why you must vote Prince Rotimi Paseda

You need to vote for Prince Olatunde Rotimi Paseda because of his people oriented projects that are based on his four cardinal programmes as outlined below:

°Free Education from Nursery to Tertiary level in Ogun State.

°Free health services to everyone in Ogun State.

°Integrated rural and community development.
°Full and sustainable employment opportunities for all.

The forthcoming 2019 election in Ogun State is a remarkable one because it offers us the golden opportunity to choose between celebrating mediocrity and embracing excellence in governance ; an opportunity to redefine the future and the generation yet unborn into this world. If Ogun State must maintain its reputation as the *Gateway State* and the home of some of the best leaders Nigeria has ever produced, then it must shy away from the bondage of incremental development presently being witnessed, which is not totally bad in itself and join the league of States taking quantum leaps in pursuit of full development and good life for its people, which is the right thing to do at this age and time.

– Senator Iyiola Omisore has agreed to refund the N1.3 billion he received from Sambo Dasuki to EFCC – The money would be paid in installment and he has made an initial payment of N300 million – The PDP chieftain first denied that he collected money but his lawyer was unable to secure bail for him Senator Iyiola Omisore has finally confessed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he received N1.3 billion from Sambo Dasuki, the former national security adviser. Dasuki served as a security adviser during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan and has been in detention following investigation from the EFCC that revealed he had misappropriated fund meant for the purchase of arms to combat Boko Haram insurgency.

However, his lawyer has been unable to secure a release for the chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party as a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed his application for bail on the basis of lack of competence. After he complained of failing health, Omisore was moved to the National Hospital in Abuja where he was kept under close watch by security operatives. Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Iyiola Omisore Iyiola Omisore Premium Times reports that the PDP chieftain finally approached the EFCC and confessed that he received fund from Dasuki. He promised to refund the whole N1.3 billion which he collected and struck a deal with the anti-graft agency. On Friday, July 22, the former deputy governor of Osun state was granted administrative bail after he agreed to refund the money in instalment. He first issued a letter authorising his bank to release N170million to the EFCC, being the entire amount in his frozen account and then issued a draft of N130 million to the EFCC bringing the total to N300 million which is his first instalment payment. He is expected to return to the office of the EFCC on Monday for further negotiations regarding how he would refund the staggering sum of one billion

READ ALSO: Omisore had earlier denied that he collected fund illegally from Dasuki and claimed the money was for a piece of land he sold to the office of the national security adviser. His inability to however provide documents backing the transaction made his claim unbelievable. The Nigerian Tribune reports that Omisore was already back in his house in Abuja. He said: “Thanks for your support and prayers. I also thank my supporters for their steadfastness. I’m back at home in Abuja.”

EducationOyo Workers Embark On Indefinite Strike As Students Protest by seunowokade(op): 12:30pm On Jun 07, 2016
Civil servants in Oyo State will commence an indefinite strike starting Tuesday, the Nigerian Labour Congress declared on Monday.

The strike directive came through a joint order by the NLC headquarters and the Oyo State chapter, as part of steps to oppose the plan by the Oyo State Government to involve private organisations in the running of public secondary schools in the State.

The NLC National Vice-Chairman, Solomon Adelegan, issued the directive at a congress held at the labour secretariat in Ibadan shortly after the seven labour leaders detained since Friday regained their freedom Monday.

Also, the directive came amid protest by secondary school students in the state capital, Ibadan, on Monday.

On May 25, the state government requested “expression of interest in public private partnership and ownership” of schools from “interested stakeholders”.

Since the announcement, the Abiola Ajimobi-led Government has continued to be opposed regarding a policy the Labour and other groups, notably Oyo Global Forum, Oyo Progressive Assembly and the Muslim Community of Oyo State, have labelled “privatisation of public schools”.

Yet, the government claimed it was not privatising schools, but that “it is intended that less than 10 per cent of the 631 secondary schools in the State may be involved in the participatory venture, rather than erroneous impression that education in the State is being privatized wholesale.”

The Secretary to the State Government, Olalekan Ali, said that last Wednesday, hours after a consultative forum on the new policy was disrupted by labour.

Following the disruption, labour leaders in the State, including chairman, Waheed Olojede, were arrested, charged to court and remanded in prison, before they were released on Monday.

Mr. Adelegan said the strike action would continue until the workers’ demands were met.‎

“Immediate withdrawal of all trump-up charges leveled against the incarcerated labour leaders; Government must rescind its decision to sell-off any public schools in the state; Proper and adequate funding of the education sector including payment of living wages and other incentive for educational workers; and Immediate Payment of 6 months outstanding salaries and all pension arrears‎ withdrawal of all trump-up charges leveled against the incarcerated labour leaders,” Mr. Adelegan listed the demands.

He added that, “The National Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, is quick to bring to the notice of the general public of how the Oyo government went ahead early hour Monday 6th June, 2016 to mobilise hundreds of armed thugs to Iyaganku magistrate court with a directive to allegedly attack innocent and law abiding workers whom are expected to be at the same magistrate court this morning to ensure the adequate perfection of bail conditions given towards the release of the labour leaders who had been incarcerated since Friday 3rd of June 2016 at Agodi prison, in Ibadan.

“Consequently, our members were beaten, harassed and intimated by these gangs of armed thugs.

“This is a deliberate attempt to scare the workers away from the court premises with a view to frustrate the perfection of the bail conditions and ensure that our leaders continue to be incarcerated. It is also disheartening to state that students who also stormed the court premises in a protest against an attempt to sell off their schools to a handful of capitalist profiteers in the state were also tear gas by members of the Nigeria Police force.

“‎We of the NLC, Oyo State council absolutely condemned this dastard and uncivilised approach of Senator Abiola-led government, at the same time, remain undaunted and no amount of persecution and intimidation is capable to deter us in the struggle to resist the sale of any of the public schools in the state.

“Therefore, we call on the general public not to hesitate to hold Senator Ajimobi solely responsible should Oyo State be plunged into a state of uncontrollable anarchy as a result of his crude and uncivilised method of mobilising thugs and use of military force to silence the opposition voice against the anti-people plan to sell some leading secondary schools in the state under the pretence of private public partnership, PPP.”

Mr. Olojede urged market women and men should join the Labour against “selling of schools in the State.”

Meanwhile, the state too, has ordered immediate closure of all primary and secondary schools in the state as a way of protecting lives and properties of the entire citizenry.”

It alleged that students and members of the public were “coerced” by Labour to disrupt school sessions and engage in unwarranted public protest and wanton destruction of properties.

It noted that the strike action called by NLC was illegal, saying the action contravened “all known labour law and conventions.”

“It is quite unfortunate that labour leaders at the national level, who ought to know better, also failed to avail themselves of the opportunity of meeting with officials of the state government to clear apparent misconceptions about the intention of the government,” It said.

“The state government wishes to state for the umpteenth time that it never had any intention to privatize, commercialize or cede any of its public secondary schools to any individual or group
