Nairaland General30 Things To Stop Doing To Yourself by seunowokade(op):
1. Stop spending time with the wrong people. It’s useless spending time with people who don’t know your worth.

2. Stop running from your problems. Face them head on.

3. Stop lying to yourself.

4. Stop putting your own needs on the back burner. Yes, help others; but help yourself too.

5. Stop trying to be someone you’re not. Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love the real you.

6. Stop trying to hold onto the past. You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading your last one.

7. Stop being scared to make a mistake. Every success has a trail of failures behind it, and every failure is leading towards success.

8. Stop berating yourself for old mistakes. Every single thing that has ever happened in your life is preparing you for a moment that is yet to come.

9. Stop trying to buy happiness. The things that really satisfy us are totally free – love, laughter and working on our passions.

10 Stop exclusively looking to others for happiness. – If you’re not happy with who you are on the inside, you won’t be happy in a long-term relationship with anyone else either.

11. Stop being idle. Evaluate situations and take decisive action.

12. Stop thinking you’re not ready. Nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises.

13. Stop getting involved in relationships for the wrong reasons. Fall in love when you’re ready, not when you’re lonely.

14. Stop rejecting new relationships just because old ones didn’t work. Some will test you, some will use you and some will teach you.

15. Stop trying to compete against everyone else. Success is a battle between YOU and YOURSELF only.

16. Stop being jealous of others. There’s something you have that everyone wants!

17. Stop complaining and feeling sorry for yourself. Smile! Let everyone know that today you are a lot stronger than you were yesterday, and you will be.

18. Stop holding grudges. Forgiveness is not just for other people, it’s for you too.

19. Stop letting others bring you down to their level. Refuse to lower your standards to accommodate those who refuse to raise theirs.

20. Stop wasting time explaining yourself to others. Your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe it anyway. Just do what you know in your heart is right.

21. Stop doing the same things over and over without taking a break. If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting. Sometimes you need to distance yourself to see things clearly.

22. Stop overlooking the beauty of small moments. Enjoy the little things, because one day you may look back and discover they were the big things.

23. Stop trying to make things perfect. The real world doesn’t reward perfectionists; it rewards people who get things done.

24. Stop following the path of least resistance. Don’t take the easy way out. Do something extraordinary.

25. Stop acting like everything is fine if it isn’t. It’s okay to fall apart for a little while. Cry if you need to – it’s healthy to shed your tears. The sooner you do, the sooner you will be able to smile again.

26. Stop blaming others for your troubles. The extent to which you can achieve your dreams depends on the extent to which you take responsibility for your life.

27. Stop trying to be everything to everyone. Doing so is impossible, and trying will only burn you out.

28. Stop worrying so much. Worry will not strip tomorrow of its burdens, it will strip today of its joy.

29. Stop focusing on what you don’t want to happen. Focus on what you do want to happen. Positive thinking is at the forefront of every great success story.

30. Stop being ungrateful. No matter how good or bad you have it, wake up each day thankful for your life.

To be honest. Male rape is on the increase worldwide and Nigeria is certainly not left out. Majority of the cases are unreported for fear of stigmatization. Men need protection as much as the women.

Nairaland GeneralMale Rape Cases In Nigeria Should Be Taken Seriously by seunowokade(op): 8:21pm On Oct 13, 2014
Usually, rape is a crime associated with women being being the victims and subjected to sexual violence. Male rape is still a “taboo” subject, although a number of cases have become subject of public discussion recently.

“Whenever rape is mentioned, what usually comes to mind is a man taking advantage of a woman. Why is it that no one cares or talks about male rape? About men sexual victimization? Why is it that men are expected to just remain calm and pretend as if they enjoy being abused?

“Earlier this year, an incident happened in Ilorin, Kwara State. Two young ladies approached an Okada man and asked him to take them to a remote part of town. It was already late, so the man initially refused to carry them through that bushy part. But he later agreed after the two promised to pay him N1,000.

“On their way, one of the ladies suddenly asked him to make a stop. As soon as he parked his Okada, one of the ladies slapped him from behind, and, before he knew what was going on they had overpowered him and tied him up with a rope. They then dragged him into the bush, tore his trousers and raped him repeatedly before they finally left him there and left.

“This is just one of the numerous cases of male rape that are not usually taken seriously in Nigeria and in the world. Just as women and girls should be protected against rape and abuse, men and boys should also be protected, in-line with gender justice and fairness. Rape is a monster which should be stamped out of every civilized society. Whether it is female or male rape, it is an evil act that should be punished duly.”

Because historically, men have been looked upon as the sterner sex, they prefer not to talk about the cases when they are exposed to suffering. Have you, or any of your male relatives, friends, being subjected to abuse and violence? Do you support the view that any violence against a person, no matter what their gender is, should be investigated and punished appropriately?

According to the Punch, though she is 30 years old but that did not stop her secret love affair with 78-year-old politician, Adedayo Deru. But on September 30, 2014, it all ended – with the man collapsing on his lover’s chest and dying on the spot.Ibrahim, who was never married, has two children with two other men. Sitting on the floor with agony etched on her face, Ibrahim narrated how her lover, who was married to another woman, died.
“He only came for se.x in the mornings so that his wife would not suspect,” the fair complexioned woman said, as her face revealed that she would prefer not to relive the sordid details of the affair. There was a day I was with him. We had se.x but the wife caught us. So, I had to leave the town shortly after. I went to Lagos to work as an apprentice hairdresser,” she said.

According to Ibrahim, after her apprenticeship and a love affair in Lagos that resulted in a child, she was back in Odogbolu, where another love affair resulted in another child.

“None of the fathers of my children were good. They never took care of me or the children. I turned to the only person who has been really helpful to me. My lover (Deru) was a good man. He helped me anytime I called on him. When we reconnected after I got back from Lagos, we continued our love affair secretly because he was always there when I needed help.”

Asked what sort of help Deru rendered, Ibrahim said he sometimes gave her foodstuffs or money for food, which she said was up to N1,000 on each occasion.

So, she and Deru enjoyed a sexual experience that endured until their final encounter, which has put her in police net as a murder suspect.

She said, “He came as usual on September 30 around 9am. I was on my way out of the house; I was going to work already that day. But he met me as I got out of the door and said he was visiting me.

“I told him I could spare some hours before I left for work, so I went back inside with him. As soon as we got in, he stripped and I did the same. It was just one round of se.x that we had and I don’t know why that could have killed him. Our lovemaking was not even that long. He started complaining that he was not feeling fine. He said he was feeling tired and dizzy. Shortly after, he collapsed and stopped breathing.

I think there is Nigeria(or National) Communication Commission that regulates activities of GSM service providers in this country! If there is, it must be a useless and irresponsible Commission. The rate at which these service providers insult the intelligence of their clients is alarming. They will charge any rate at will, hang calls and messages, hold you admist of calls, etc. One of them, Mtn, is enforcing caller tune on all its customers and charging 50naira a week. Are we saying they are extorting us with approval of NCC? Is there any percentage accrued to the agency from all illegal naira collected? Is it legal for the service providers to introduce any service without the consent of their clients? There are many questions begging for answers. angry

Car TalkNigeria, Africa The New El Dorado For Luxury Cars by seunowokade(op): 5:43pm On Dec 29, 2013
Nigeria, Africa the new El Dorado for luxury cars

Porsches, Range Rovers and even Maseratis… luxury cars are no strange sight weaving through the old bangers that rumble along Abidjan’s chaotic streets, another indication of the emergence of a wealthy class in Africa.

Each of the vehicles costs at least tens of thousands of euros, representing decades of work for an Ivorian earning the minimum wage, even after it was recently hiked 60 percent to 60,000 CFA francs (around 90 euros, $125) a month.

Yet in wealthy Abidjan neighbourhoods the streets are jammed with more luxury autos than in rich quarters of European capitals.

It’s the same story in Johannesburg, Lagos, or even Libreville. In the Gabonese capital it is common to see SUV after SUV snaking along the oceanside boulevard.

Wealthy Africans love the big, high, four-wheel drive vehicles.

Not only are they better adapted to the roads, regularly in a poor condition, they have also become something of a status symbol.

In Gabon, 70 percent of the 6,000 new vehicles sold each year are big 4x4s, mostly Japanese models, according to the Gabonese Federation of Car Importers.

“Here, its a 4×4 or nothing,” said one car importer who declined to give his name. For the Gabonese, the SUV has become “the symbol of success, much more than a house”.

In Ivory Coast, luxury cars make up only 3 percent of the 8,000 new cars sold each year, said one industry expert who asked to remain anonymous.

“However certain customers are looking for the top of the line — “bling-bling” cars — there are people with money like that in the market,” he added.

But the high taxes slapped on new cars have given the second-hand car market a boost. A significant proportion of luxury cars enter the country this way from Europe, the United States and even the Middle East.

Despite the potholes that riddle Abidjan’s streets, there are importers offering low-slung sports cars like Lamborghinis and Ferraris.

A former rebel military leader turned security official, Issiaka Ouattara, known as “Wattao”, was recently seen on national television driving a Maserati.

This brash display of luxury cars is an indication of the growing wealth in Africa despite increasing numbers living in extreme poverty.

The African Development Bank put the size of the African middle class at 300 million in 2011.

Ventures financial magazine recently put the number of African billionaires at 55 — more than triple the previous count. That figure is likely an underestimate, the Nigerian magazine said, as many are not comfortable disclosing the true extent of their wealth.

Porsche boasts a brand new showroom in Victoria Island, one of Lagos’ most chic neighbourhoods.

The German carmaker’s sales have jumped by nearly 40 percent the past two years in South Africa, where it has been present for decades.

It has recently set up shop in Angola and Ghana as well as Nigeria, according to Christer Ekberg, Porsche’s managing director for the Middle East and Africa.

With 2,000 Porsche cars sold in sub-Saharan Africa in the first three quarters of this year, which the company described as a “promising” figure, the automaker is committed to expanding further across the continent.

Local partners are being sought for dealerships in Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Namibia, Senegal, Tanzania and Zambia.

Mercedes also views the potential of the African market as “enormous”, a spokeswoman said.

The German carmaker has an assembly line in South Africa, where it sells 20,000 vehicles per year.

BMW said it also intends to keep expanding across Africa, where it saw 15 percent sales growth in 2012 to 34,000 vehicles.

As for Audi, the company expects further growth in certain parts of Africa, where its sales have doubled in three years to 22,000 vehicles.

The carmakers are also being pulled in by the need to service their vehicles that have already found their way into African countries.

A lack of parts and diagnostic equipment has led to these high-performance vehicles being kept off the road for months in Abidjan, according to an expert on the local car market.

“If Porsche comes to Ivory Coast, customers will be overjoyed to be able to repair their cars in a company garage,” said another expert on the African market.

“But they won’t necessarily buy there,” he added.

“Well-heeled clients are no different than others” and will likely plump for a second-hand vehicle in good condition that is much less expensive, he said.

Digital currency biz Liberty Reserve shut down, founder arrested

Digital currency Liberty Reserve has been shut down after U.S. and Costa Rican authorities arrested founder Arthur Budovsky Belanchuk in Spain.

Central American newspaper The Tico Times reports that Budovsky was arrested Friday. Investigators say that Budovsky’s businesses in Costa Rica, including Liberty Reserve, were used to launder money for child pornography websites and drug trafficking.

This isn’t the first time Budovsky has been in trouble with the law. Back in 2006, Budovsky and his partner Vladimir Kats were indicted in the United States on charges related to dealings with their business GoldAge. Authorities said at that time that Gold Age had illegally transmitted at least $30 million to digital currency accounts. The two were sentenced to five years in prison in 2007 but only ended up serving probation. Budovsky then skipped out of the United States and headed to Costa Rica, where he subsequently started Liberty Reserve.

Liberty Reserve has offered mostly unregulated payment processing services for U.S. dollars and euros for years. Back in 2011, Liberty Reserve was known for being one of the first ways of easily converting U.S. dollars to Bitcoins and vice versa. Liberty Reserve is no longer a popular option for Bitcoin processing because so many other companies have stepped in to make the process easier, such as Coinbase.

Cybercrime expert Brian Krebs writes that Liberty Reserve was also one of the most popular forms of payment in the “cybercrime underground.” He says cybercrime forums have exploded with activity about Liberty Reserve shutting down because many of them used it to hold and transfer their funds. (Take a look at a screengrab below.)

We certainly feel bad for anyone who was using Liberty Reserve for legal means, such
as sending money to friends or using it for Bitcoin trades.

113 Dead, 2,600 Injured in China Earthquake

April 20, 2013

An aerial view shows houses damaged after a strong earthquake in Lushan county, Ya'an, Sichuan province, Apr. 20, 2013.

Chinese state media say the death toll from a powerful earthquake that struck the western region of Sichuan Saturday morning has climbed to at least 113 people, with more than 2,600 injured.

China's official Xinhua news agency said that the death toll could rise as search and rescue teams make their way into affected areas.

State media say hard-hit parts of Lushan county remain unreachable by road, with phone services cut off.  Aerial photos released by China's military and aired on state television showed individual houses in ruins and some stretches of the county seat and villages flattened into rubble.

China's premier, Li Keqiang, has flown to the region to oversee relief efforts.

Sichuan's provincial seismological bureau put the strength of the quake at 7.0, while the U.S. Geological Survey said it was 6.6 magnitude, which is capable of causing severe damage.  The quake occurred at a depth of 12 kilometers.

Xinhua said the quake also rattled buildings in the provincial capital of Chengdu, 115 kilometers to the east.

A strong earthquake struck Sichuan in 2008, killing more than 70,000 people.
