Edygrin:
I made similar statement yesterday, other governors are looking for ways to make their state earn more from other sources, Bala Mohammed is making irresponsible statements up and down.

I read earlier today that Niger state Gov has increased the salary of non essential health workers to 80,000 even those with diploma will benefit, add that to the gains he's making in Agriculture and you'll wonder if the tax reform bill won't affect his state also.
ask yourself is the government reforms working? Please be sincere, truthful and honest to yourself, pls!!!!

Essentially, we should legalise nepotism?
Some of you have to be careful with your blind support for APC and thier tribal governments. You lot will not be in power for ever..
I just hope no one will start wailing when the next guy in power decides to up the ante..
read and understand, what I told you ìs contrary to what you are saying. I told that tribalism is part of democracy but nepotism is what is bad, so try to know the difference between tribalism and nepotism.

So what's your argument?
We should normalize rabid tribalism as a result?
that is democracy for you, what we reject is nepotism, in democratic system you must love your people because they will be the one to elect you in the first place.

MadPolitician:
Kwankwaso is worse than buhari and Tinubu in terms of tribalism. At least those two tried to hide their tribalism before assuming power. But you all can go and watch all of kwankwasos interviews back in the days. Dude is a very very very pro northern politician and he doesn't even care about how others look at that. Kwankwaso is far too dangerous for Nigeria. And people like Donald Duke should be more circumspect in choosing whom they allign with. The desperation for political relevance should not force his likes to be following characters whose rabid tribalism will prove too dangerous for not just the people of Cross Rivers state, but for the rest of southern Nigeria.
who among the current politicians is not
a tribalistic?

This is the first time am hearing such that a deputy governor was redeploy to other ministry.
Please constitutional lawyers in the house, what is your take on this ?
nothing special here, he remains the deputy, he was also a commissioner that's why he was redeployed to another ministry as a commissioner, serving both offices .

Watching channels now.
Nassarawa governor(virtually), former speaker,Hon. Yakubu Dogara etc present. All supported the bill after a lengthy explanation from Mr Taiwo Oloyede.
Lagos takes more than 80% vat now but the proposed new Lagos vat will be 15% while Kano receiving 0.86% will now be 6.something% and all states except Lagos and Rivers will be collecting more vat in the proposed tax bill.
I think the people who generated these tax bills are geniuses.
Within a year or two,Nigeria will be a real success.
lie, lie, you don see mugu, sorry you missed your lane, so Lagos will loss such amount and keep silent, dey play.

What is north without their biggest economies? Is like saying there is somewhere called south West economic wise without Lagos or south south without Rivers or south east without Anambra, you have a long way to go as regards knowledge. Put all the states that doesn't and see the difference in their economies for both the three regions put together. If I tell you to name the states comprising North Central, North East and North Central I'm sure you can't name them without looking at Google
you have a shallow knowledge about nigeria economy.

They don't tax them that's the issue, typically farm produce are taxed the minimum because it's a critical sector. Government even provide subsides to drive down food prices in developed climes.

The north has been too parasitic for too long, ask them the contributions they made as regards to the federation account they are sharing every month you will find a negligible contribution not to talk of VAT and other issues.

Imagine them taking VAT on alcohol how? When they break and destroy alcohol sold in their region and still want the tax from the alcohol funny people
maybe you think kano and jigawa is what they mean by the word "north", many state in the North consume alcohol.
PoliticsRe: Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills Will Benefit Only Lagos, Says Zulum by sevenhundred(m): 7:48am On Dec 02, 2024
Dapromzy333:
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has expressed concerns that the proposed tax reform bills would disproportionately favor Lagos State while leaving other states, particularly in the North, at a disadvantage, News360 Nigeria reports.

During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Zulum clarified that his stance on the bills should not be interpreted as opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He reaffirmed his support for Tinubu, highlighting his role in advocating for a power shift to the South and noting that 60.2% of Tinubu’s votes came from the North.

Zulum revealed that governors advised the federal government during a National Economic Council (NEC) meeting to pause the implementation of the bills and conduct broader stakeholder consultations to ensure equitable outcomes.

“There are misconceptions about this tax issue. In a democratic setting, consultation is vital. We are simply asking for the right to be consulted, not opposing the administration,” he said.

The governor also expressed concerns about the bills’ potential economic implications for states outside Lagos.

According to Zulum, analyses suggest that while Lagos might benefit, others, including the Southeast, South-South, and even parts of the Southwest, would suffer adverse effects.

“Based on calculations, only Lagos will benefit. Why the rush? Let’s pause and analyze these bills thoroughly. This is our contention, not an attack on the president,” he explained.

Zulum further noted that Lagos officials themselves have reservations about the reforms, having indicated potential revenue losses.

The governor reiterated the need for comprehensive discussions to address the bills’ broader implications and ensure equitable benefits for all states.

Borno gov propagating what is not true – Presidency

Tope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has said what the Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum said about the tax reform bills was not true.

In a post on his Facebook page, Ajayi said: “A professor and governor of a state should not be on a national television to propagate what is not true.

“There is no part of the Tax Reform Bills that recommends scrapping of TETFUND, NASENI and NITDA by the year 2029 as claimed by Governor Zulum in his Channels TV interview.

“In any public debate around these four bills before the National Assembly, there should be no place for misinformation and deliberate falsehood.”

Atiku calls for justice, wants resolutions of NEC made public

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for a fiscal system that promotes justice, fairness, and equity in the ongoing controversy over the tax reform bills.

Reacting to the vexed issue of the tax bill in a post on his official X handle, Atiku, who asked the National Assembly to make public the resolutions of the National Economic Council (NEC) on the bill, noted that Nigerians have spoken against a fiscal system that seeks to promote “Uneven development of the federating units by enhancing the status of a few states while unduly penalising others.”

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election said, “I have followed the intense public discourse on the Tax Reform Bills with keen interest.

“Nigerians are united in their call for a fiscal system that promotes justice, fairness, and equity. They are loud and clear that the fiscal system we seek to promote must not exacerbate the uneven development of the federating units by enhancing the status of a few states while unduly penalising others.

“I call for objectivity and transparency in the conduct of the public hearing being organised by our representatives in the National Assembly.

“The public hearing process must facilitate open and inclusive participation by all stakeholders, including civil society organisations, traditional institutions, politicians, public officials, and subject matter experts.”
