Hey guys what's popping. Arrived in Canada a week ago . It's been so hectic settling down. Is there anyone in VIU on this thread. The immigration officer that attended to me didn't ask me any question, just checked my letter and gave me a study permit for two years even though my entry visa was just for 6 months(the passport I used to apply for visa was expiring in February but I got a new one before I left)thank God for journey mercies.

HI I am just seeing this. I dunno if its late but here goes.
For renewal of passport in NIgeria, I only went with the old passport and money.
Then for visa extension (within Canada), its the study permit you extend 1st. I had to submit
-Proof of medicals that i did in Nigeria
- Statement of account (I used my canadian account since i had all my money there)
- Letter of enrollment from my school
- Passport data page and copies of all visas and study permit
- Passport photograph.
- Cost of study permit extension $150

I applied June 16th and app was approved yesterday.
Once i get the study permit document, I will apply for a new TRV since the old one has expired too.
Apologies for the late reply

No prob, Thanks for the infor. already done the new passport. pls how much had to be in your Canadian account?? and the proof of medicals what was that??

No cause for alarm. I had the same condition because I had no idea then that Canada doesnt issue visas beyond the passport validity. She will have to renew her passport in Canada and then apply for study permit extension at least 30 days before the expiry. I would advice she applies like two months before her permit expires because it currently takes an average of 70 days to get a response from CIC for applications made within Canada.
If she renews her passport in Canada, she will not have any problem. I renewed my passport in Nigeria in April and I was still able to come into Canada. So she is covered. However, she should apply for a study permit as soon as she gets a new passport so she can get a reply from CIC in time.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how much it is to renew passports in Canada

Hey chichi pls what were the document you included for your passport renewal in Nigeria and how much did it cost?? And what were the document that was required for the visa extension. Thanks

[quote author=soji0509 post=31393168]Why are u complicating issues ?
Go via online route. In that case you need only scan all documents including your dad's own.
The man is old school and must have heard lots of scams. I do not blame him at all. Examples of Prodigal children who have sold their parents property illegally are common.
Do everything including asking mum to persuade him. Persuade him to a business centre where he can do the scanning while he holds on to the original.
If he is proves difficult, go buy 3 in one printer which is now less that 8K bring to the house and scan all your docs where he feels they are safe.
Try, try and try everything possible including looking for a co-sponsor.
NEVER, NEVER fail to submit your application after trying your best in the circumstance.
Pray GOD to complement your application and complete it in the eye of the V.O.
It is well with you (amen)

thanks for the advice. as i stated in my other posts he doesn't want to. i told him i just needed a photocopy or scanned copy, he said he isn't giving me any. we have a a scanner at home so it isn't like he is scared i will do smth with his documents and he isn't worried about me scamming him. my mom also supports him on that. i have told him everything and anything possible. he stills insist he isn't releasing anything.

Pls don't give up oooo shocked. Y not give it a try? Do u have a job? Get a study leave letter, add your employment letter, introduction letter and work ID. Most importantly, take your time, read the previous parts of this thread there shld be someone who has a similar case as yours.

okay i will do all that. already have all those . it is just the land and shares document that is remaining and it seems i can't get it . i am reading through the other threads, still haven't come across any case like mine. thanks

Don't knw the kind of person yur dad is bt I wld say you shld try convince him if possible let him have someone he trusts accompany you to get the docs scanned. Nt sure how it works bt I don't tink anyone can use a scanned copy to fraud him since he has the original docs in his possession. A land doc and a shares cert wld do. They show a kind of financial capability and a strong home tie. If his SOA is strong its good oooo bt.... read the testimonies of TRV choppers they added land docs to their apps. The gurus can add to dis or correct me.

lol.. thanks but i will prob just cancel everything. we even had an argument yesterday he was screaming that he wasn't going to give me any of that even a scanned copy or photocopy
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 7 by sexysammy0906: 8:29am On Mar 07, 2015
lilspiceyy:

Have them scanned, give him the original docs and apply online. Bt if u insist on paper route still have them scanned, print them out and have them notarized. #justsaying

thanks for the advice but he doesn't even want to give me that either .is there anyway i can apply without those .his soa is quite strong.

Good morning. pls i would like to ask a question about visa processing for study permit. my dad who is my sponsor has refused to give me his land document or shares certificates whether original or notarised photocopy . i have tried to reason with him that it is important that i have this document to ensure my chances of getting a visa but he insists that it is a scam that no one in embassies asks for land or share document for visa. since there is no way to convince him that it is not a scam and i do not have anyone else to ask, pls what do i do??

Then did you include a copy of your final year project in your application?

nope i cant access it again. i deleted the email with my login details. what is the percentage calculated for? i didnt include my undergraduate project but i included an essay i wrote during my postgraduate study

chichi89: @sexysammy0906 the public admin in uni of waterloo is kind of tailored towards the Canadian setting,MAYBE that was a reason for denial. I also wanted to go for it but had to opt for Peace and Conflict Studies because of that. UVic to my understanding has low acceptance rate (I stand corrected) and has a lot of requirements. Twas also one of the schools I wanted to apply to but got discouraged. You should try other universities and colleges too. A lot of time has to be put into research and get in touch with the department before you apply too.

oh sorry i actually applied for that. the peace and conflict studies for uni of waterloo. please how did u go about it. i was really interested in that particular program and dont mind applying again for it. i would appreciate any assistance you could render.
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by sexysammy0906: 9:35am On Jul 05, 2014
chichi89: Uhm I got admitted into uni of waterloo oh and I have 2nd class upper division. Did you apply through the agent or on your own?

by myself. i didn't think i needed an agent for that. what courses did u apply for and did u use an agent?
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by sexysammy0906: 9:10am On Jul 05, 2014
Jijola: Why would they not give U admission 2:1?Maybe there's a problem with the way u r applying, or the school U did ur 1st or 2nd degree. Don't also limit ur application to only 1 school.

probably. i actually applied to three schools. concordia uni, university of victoria and uni of waterloo. for the same course. MA in public admin. all of them denied my application. an agent actually told me that those schools have preference based on ethnicity. they tk more of indians than nigerians. and it is only if you have a first class that u might actually have a higher possibility of gaining admission.
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by sexysammy0906: 8:33am On Jul 05, 2014
jtbaba1: Boss for real ooo..they will refuse..I don't have a masters or no any one that has and be refused. But the admission officer for centennial college told me that categorically. She said all people that has applied for a lower program has been denied from her experience. . Because I was trying to apply for a technical program also and I have a degree. So boss don't risk it

A second masters wouldn't be a bad idea..
that is allowed.

heading for centennial also. Falls. But still praying for medical calls.

okay, thanks. applying for another masters means waiting for another year cos most of the school offering Masters program in jan do not have any program that might be of interest to me. If i have to wait that long i think i might not even bother going again cos i actually did apply for master last year frm three diff schools and didn't get any positive response from them. thats why i decided to go for pgd so that i could apply in canada after my program. i heard it is easier that way. what course are u going to study there? good luck on ur application. anyways let me know how it goes.
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by sexysammy0906: 8:27am On Jul 05, 2014
tunamost: bro I thought they said canada don't offer pgd except masters....plz how did u go abt it,d name of d school dat gave u d admission and is d expenses not as much as masters program?plz I need dis info cuz am also interested in pgd in biochemistry...fanx a lot...I await ur response.

they do. and i dont think it is as expensive as a masters degree. u jst need to research it online. i actually used an agent and they jst gave me a list of schools with pgd programs. i applied to centennial college.

My advice is to include your masters degree. What Pgd course r you doing? I moved to Canada abt 6 years ago after I concluded my masters in SW in the UK then came to George Brown College to do a Pgd in Autism and behavioural Sc....
There must be a direct link to your masters course if you want to do a Pgd. I explained in my personal statement why I wanted to do a course in Autism which will certainly enhance my profession as a Social worker. I got my Student visa in d Uk and have since gotten my PR.
Besides your UK student Visa will show on ur passport.
Just make sure your reasons are solid and you shouldn't have a problem.

Good luck
the pgd program i am going for is Corporate Communications and Public Relations, i have a masters degree in international relations and the same with my undergraduate degree. the agent actually explained that this new trend jst started recently and that it has not really been an issue since. they just noticed that most persons that they applied for that got rejected had master degree in another country but were going for a lesser degree. anyways do u think that there is strong tie for me to able to apply for visa.
