CAPITAL ONE CUP Date: Tuesday, 26th August Kick off: 20:00 BST Venue: Stadium:mk Capital One Cup team news: MK Dons v Man United preview Three MK Dons players are fighting to be fit for their Capital One Cup second round clash against Manchester United (8pm KO). Goalkeeper David Martin and full-back Lee Hodson missed the goalless draw with Coventry on Saturday with knocks sustained during the win at Chesterfield. Danny Green (hamstring) missed both the trip to Derbyshire and the stalemate against the Sky Blues and the winger will also be assessed. Samir Carruthers made his return from a thigh strain at the weekend as a second- half substitute and the midfielder will hope to be involved from the start on Tuesday night. Recent signing Jordan Spence, fellow defender Tom Flanagan, midfielder Mark Randall and forwards Tom Hitchcock and Benik Afobe are also vying for starting places. Manchester United defender Chris Smalling and midfielder Ander Herrera will have their condition assessed ahead of Tuesday's Capital One Cup tie at Sky Bet League One outfit MK Dons. Smalling came off in the first half of Sunday's 1-1 Barclays Premier League draw at Sunderland with a groin injury, while Herrera sat out the clash due to an ankle problem. It is not expected that new signing Marcos Rojo's work permit situation will be resolved in time for him to make his debut in the cup game and it remains to be seen whether fellow defender Rafael will be deemed fit enough to feature. Head-to-head This will be the first-ever meeting between Manchester United and MK Dons. MK Dons MK have won two of their previous six clashes with Premier League opponents in the League Cup. Manchester United The last time Manchester United played in the League Cup second round was October 1995 (versus York City). They lost 4-3 on aggregate. The Red Devils have won five of their last six ties with opposition from a lower division. Source: www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/325029/preview |
tag : mukina2, obinoscopy why did you push thread in a sport section to the frontpage? Are wll not going to use dis secttion for EPL nd odas again or is that a new rule given to you??....pls lemme knw |
Team news Poyet has a number of selection decisions to make as Sunderland contemplate introducing new additions and experienced heads into their starting XI. Costel Pantilimon could be handed his debut following a nervy display from Vito Mannone at West Brom, while Wes Brown is expected to be moved to centre-half against his former club at the expense of Valentin Roberge. Emanuele Giaccherini remains sidelined with a groin complaint, but Billy Jones and Santiago Vergini are back in training and will be pushing for spots at full-back. United would have been hoping to hand new arrival Marcos Rojo an immediate opportunity to prove his worth in the Premier League as fellow left-back Luke Shaw is nursing a knock, but the Argentine is still waiting on a work permit. Van Gaal saw his options against Swansea severely depleted as Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia, Jonny Evans and Tom Cleverley missed out, and Ander Herrera has been added to a mounting injury list. Robin van Persie is close to returning to full match fitness and may be involved at Sunderland, but Marouane Fellaini definitely misses out as he has suffered ankle ligament damage. |

After an almost flawless pre-season campaign, Manchester United started the English Premier League off on the wrong foot by losing at Old Trafford to Swansea 2-1. Louis Van Gaal’s debut at English football couldn’t have been any worse as the ghosts of last season’s catastrophe seemed to have taunted his players throughout the entire match. United looked fairly uninspired for large periods of the match and even the large number of injured players cannot serve as an escape goat for such failure. The Dutch manager presented his usual 3-5-2 formation with Hernández in the place of Van Persie up at the front and with Young and Lingard acting as wing backs because of the injuries of Rafael, Valencia and Luke Shaw. Apart from the young academy products, Ander Herrera was the only new face at the pitch and the lack of new arrivals may certainly have been an upsetting factor for the experienced Dutch head coach. For the match against Sunderland, Van Gaal is certainly hoping to have a few more players at his disposal and he might as well count on the return of Robin Van Persie, who missed the entire pre-season due to injury. As for Sunderland, the Black Cats will take on a somewhat fragilized United after granting a draw at West Brom in the dying moments of the match. Gus Poyet’s boys had a good start and grabbed an early lead thanks to a long range effort from Lee Cattermole but after that they experienced some difficulties in sustaining the Baggies’ game flow. The team’s boss, Gus Poyet, was fairly upset after the match because of the penalty awarded against Sunderland but at the same time he was very happy with the late equalizer and with his players’ performances, especially during the second-half. For the clash against Manchester United, the Uruguayan manager is not yet certain if he will be able to count on the contribution of the versatile Italian winger Emanuele Giaccherini, who missed the first match of the season due to a groin injury. The last time both sides went head-to-head at the Stadium of Light was back in January for the Capital One Cup and the Black Cats claimed a 2-1 win thanks to a Borini’s goal from the penalty spot and an own goal from Ryan Giggs. Manchester United might be considered favourites for next Sunday’s clash, although they will need to do a lot better than they did against Swansea if they want to take something positive from the match. https://www.teslabet.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/man_utd_swansea_logo.jpg Match Preview Robin van Persie has "no chance" of featuring for Manchester United against Swansea City on Saturday, according to manager Louis van Gaal. The striker returned to pre-season training late after reaching the World Cup semi-finals, under Van Gaal, with the Netherlands. And, asked whether Van Persie might be fit enough to play on Saturday, Van Gaal said: "No chance. He has to train." The comments echo the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach's statement from earlier this month, when he predicted Van Persie would not be ready. "Robin wants to play every game, I know that, but so do the other 30 players in the squad," he said at the time. "But players have to train and Robin needs a full training regime behind him before he can play again." Big-money signing Luke Shaw will also miss out on Saturday after picking up a hamstring injury, but Van Gaal is confident of filling the gap left by the teenager. "We played in the USA [pre-season tour] with Reece James and Ashley Young in that position [left wing-back]," he reminded reporters. "I'm not worried." Sam Johnstone, Antonio Valencia, Jonny Evans and Danny Welbeck all join Shaw in being unavailable for the Premier League curtain-raiser through injury, while Michael Carrick is also absent as he continues to recover from ankle surgery. For the second season in a row, Manchester United kick off their Barclays Premier League campaign against Swansea City and under a new manager. After 27 years with Alex Ferguson at the helm, the Old Trafford club parted with successor David Moyes just 10 months into his contract as they careered towards a seventh-place finish in the top flight last term – their lowest in the competition's history. Ryan Giggs saw out the season in the United hot seat on an interim basis, but the onus now falls on former Netherlands coach Van Gaal to restore the club's fortunes. And the experienced coach, who led his country to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil earlier this year, has brought a new sense of optimism to the 13-time Barclays Premier League champions. "We can't wait to get going against Swansea and look to put right the wrongs from last year," midfielder Tom Cleverley told United's official website. "This club has always been renowned for bouncing back from sticky patches and that's one of the reasons it's so loved around the world." Swansea, who claimed their first win at Old Trafford in the FA Cup third round last season, have provided the opposition for a number of significant moments in United's recent history. Prior to losing 4-1 in Moyes' first league game in charge of United at the Liberty Stadium 12 months ago, the Welsh club were also the opponents for Ferguson's last match at Old Trafford at the end of the 2012-13 campaign. And, with Van Gaal's Premier League bow set to dominate headlines in the build-up to the latest encounter between the clubs, Swansea manager Garry Monk is happy to deflect the attention onto his opposite number. "All the focus will be on them, which suits us fine," he said. "We'll just go up there and do the best we can. "The big clubs attract the most attention - the best players in the world play for these bigger clubs. All the focus is on them and we'll just go about our jobs. "Everyone is beatable, the best teams in the world are beatable. You always have the chance and we'll be going up there believing we can win the game. We don't fear it; we see it as a challenge." United have refreshed their squad with the acquisitions of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera during the close-season. But Shaw, a big-money signing from Southampton, has been sidelined for up to four weeks with a hamstring injury. Swansea, meanwhile, have experienced a sizeable turnover in personnel since the end of last season. Pablo Hernandez, Chico Flores, Ben Davies and Michel Vorm have all left the club for pastures new, while Michu has gone to Napoli on a season-long loan. Lukasz Fabianski, Bafetimbi Gomis and Jefferson Montero are all likely to make their debuts against United, and Gylfi Sigurdsson could be in line to kick-start his second stint with the club, this time in a permanent capacity. Leon Britton, Marvin Emnes and Jay Fulton are all missing for Swansea with knee injuries. |
