Match Preview
Louis van Gaal will be hoping Swansea City
do not spoil yet another of his special
occasions when he marks 50 matches as
Manchester United manager on Sunday.
Swansea were the opponents when Van Gaal took
charge of his first Barclays Premier League fixture at
Old Trafford on the opening day of last season - the
Welsh club coming away with a memorable 2-1
victory.

Van Gaal was unable to avenge that defeat when he
paid his maiden visit to the Liberty Stadium in
February, as Swansea came from behind to win by the
same scoreline courtesy of goals from Ki Sung-yueng
and Bafetimbi Gomis.

"My first match was against Swansea and we lost,"
said United's manager. "Now I have my 50th and I
hope we can show that we have improved. We are
better prepared this year.

"I don't want to lose again. It's the only club we could
not beat or gain one point against [last season]. I hope
we can improve and that we can show that we are
better than last year."

Swansea manager Garry Monk is certain his side will
come up against a much-improved United.
"They have spent lots of money and have brought in
some quality players," he said. "The super powers and
the money they are spending on squads is phenomenal.
It is getting more and more difficult to produce results
against them.

"But we are trying, we are trying to impose ourselves.
They are one of the title contenders. I hope we can
cause them problems. It will have to be our best
performance of the season to get anything. We've set
high standards and we have to maintain them and
improve on them."

Swansea have won three of their last four fixtures
against United in all competitions and, in Gomis, have
one of the Premier League's in-form strikers at their
disposal - the Frenchman having scored eight in his
last nine matches.

Wayne Rooney rediscovered his scoring touch with a
hat-trick in a 4-0 UEFA Champions League win at
Club Brugge on Wednesday and will be hoping to carry
that form into Sunday's trip to south Wales United
remain without Phil Jones (mild thrombosis), while
Adnan Januzaj is also out with a knock.

Swansea - like United, unbeaten this season - are at
full fitness following their League Cup second-round
victory over York City in midweek.

Swansea City won both Barclays Premier League
meetings with Manchester United last season, ending a
run of eight league matches without beating them (D2
L6).

Swansea have won three of the last four meetings with
Man Utd in all competitions, all by a 2-1 scoreline.

Sergio Romero has started his BPL career with three
clean sheets. The last goalkeeper to keep four in his
first four appearances in the competition was Man Utd's Anders Lindegaard (October to December 2011).

PROGRESS IN STYLE

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has no
concern over a shortage of goals ahead of his
team's trip to Club Brugge.
Luke Shaw is planning to take the frustration of
Manchester United's draw with Newcastle United
out on Club Brugge in Wednesday's UEFA
Champions League playoff second leg.

Louis van Gaal's side was unable to make it three
Premier League wins out of three at the start of
the season as it was held to a 0-0 draw by the
Tyneside outfit at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Much has been made of United needing a new
striker before the transfer window closes, having
scored just two goals in its first three top-flight
matches.

United did find the back of the net three times
against Brugge in the first leg on home soil last
week, though, coming from behind to ensure it will
take a 3-1 lead to Jan Breydel Stadion.
Memphis Depay scored twice and Marouane
Fellaini added a third in stoppage time after
Michael Carrick's own goal gave Brugge, who had
Brandon Mechele sent off 10 minutes from
time, a shock early lead.

Shaw is not concerned by United's lack of goals
and the England left back is confident his
team can finish off the job in Belgium.
He told MUTV: "It wasn't to be [against
Newcastle], but we've got a game just around the
corner [against Brugge] and I think it’s only good
for us. We'll get back up and try to win that
game.

"I'm sure we'll start scoring many goals soon.
We've got so much quality up front that it’s only a
matter of time before someone puts one away and
we’ll be flying again."

Brugge also heads into the game on the back of a
setback at the weekend, with Zulte-Waregem
consigning Michel Preud'homme's men to a 2-0
Belgian Pro League defeat.

After finishing second last season, Brugge has
already lost two of its first five games in the league
and will have to pull off a major shock to progress
to the group stage for the first time in a decade.
Brugge is unbeaten in 10 home matches in Europe,
though, and with an away goal in the bank it will
be out to deny United a return to the group stage
after the English club missed out on Europe
altogether last season.

United will again be without Phil Jones
(thrombosis), while Brugge is unable to call
upon Mechele due to suspension following his
dismissal in the first leg and captain Timmy
Simons (hamstring).

Manchester United to sell Victor Valdés
after refusal to play for...

Louis van Gaal revealed the reason the
former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor
Valdés is out in the cold at Manchester
United is because he failed to follow the
manager’s philosophy and bad attitude

This is particularly relevant given his very public
comments about a player not prepared to do
things his way earlier this week.
One of United's key battles here is, of course,
the battle against any pre-season knocks. The
squad suffered a few key injuries in 2014's ICC,
which had a knock-on effect on the league
season. Van Gaal will be keen to avoid that
outcome.

Manchester United's starting XI is tough to
predict, given Van Gaal is likely to include some
youngsters in the side. As far as we know,
everyone selected for the tour will be available
to play. That, of course, will not include Victor
Valdes, who was excluded from the touring
squad. Michael Carrick is over his late-season
ankle injury, according to the club's official
website. Club America are already a couple of games
deep in their ICC campaign, having lost their
opener against LA Galaxy, but should be on a
high after seeing off San Jose. Dario Benedetto
left the 'Quakes game with his left foot in a
protective boot so is presumably a doubt for this
one.

Players to Watch

United eyes will be firmly fixed on the new men,
particular superstar signing Bastian
Schweinsteiger. Van Gaal told ManUtd.com that
his players would most likely see a maximum of
60 minutes of action—and more likely 45—in the
first two ICC games. There will thus most likely
be a chance to see all four new arrivals.
Memphis Depay's attacking will be eagerly anticipated

For America, the game against the 'Quakes saw
a stunning strike from Andres Andrade saw him
voted Man of the Match. He will be keen to
maintain his form

Key Battle

With United likely to show up with a pretty
different XI in each half, the key battles will be
hard to predict. But as B/R's Daniel Tiluk
reported ahead of their previous game, America
are blessed with plenty of pace, and United will
have to do well to contain their counter-
attacking ability. Of course, being pre-season,
the result is not at a premium for United, but
players will be playing to impress their
manager.

PREVIEWS

The excitement is building as Manchester
United prepare to kick off their International
Champions Cup campaign against Club America.
It will be the first match of a four-game tour
which will also see the Red Devils play San
Jose Earthquakes, Barcelona and Paris Saint-
Germain.
The game takes place at the home of the
Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders,
CenturyLink Field.

Louis van Gaal's men will be looking to start
their pre-season on a high. While their form
during their victorious 2014 ICC campaign was
not translated into the start of the Premier
League season, they will still be looking to

For Club America, Ignacio Ambriz's men will be
looking forward to taking on one of Europe's
elite clubs, given their status as the most

Cup...
This Monday afternoon, Louis van Gaal and his
Manchester United squad will embark on Tour
2015, presented by Aon, as the preparations for
the new campaign continue in earnest.
The Reds will jet out to the United States to
begin the defence of the International
Champions Cup which was claimed in impressive
