The official twitter handle of the National Assembly @nassnigeria just tweeted it that the Senate has adjourned and to reconvene by September 29 2015. |
President Muhammadu Buhari said
Wednesday in Abuja that his
administration will give the fullest
possible attention to boosting power
supply in Nigeria because it was
convinced that steady electricity
will launch the country into faster
socio-economic development.
Speaking after being briefed by the
Permanent Secretary, Federal
Ministry of Power, Ambassador
Godknows Igali, President Buhari
said that his administration had
already identified the critical
problems in Nigeria's power sector
and was taking appropriate actions
to address them.
The President said that his
administration had also prioritized
certain measures in its action plan
to boost electricity supply in
Nigeria.
"The problems besetting our power
sector are not difficult to identify.
Therefore, priorities can be easily
set in order to tackle them.
"The problems are more with
transmission than generation, and
we equally need to secure the
power infrastructure round the
country.
"We will address all these issues,"
the President assured.
Ambassador Igali told the President
that power generation in Nigeria
which was 1,750 MW in 1999,
had now peaked at 4,600 MW.
He added that gas was available to
take generation to 5,500 MW in a
short time, but that the country
needed to expand its electricity
infrastructure to accommodate
additional power generation.

The Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, on Wednesday revealed the content of a text message the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okinawa Sijuwade, sent to him before he passed away. “His Excellence, I am still not feeling good, So I am travelling abroad for medical check up of my body therefore I place your government under God's guidance,” Mr. Aregbesola made this known in Osogbo on Wednesday at a press conference where members of the family of the late monarch and his traditional council members officially announced his passing away. The governor had disclosed last Friday that he received a text message from the monarch shortly before he left the country and would share the contents with the public as soon as it was convenient. “The late Ooni represented the Yoruba nation and has done a lot in uplifting the traditional institution of the state,” Mr. Aregbesola said. He added that the death of the Ooni was a great loss to the state and the Yoruba race but noted that the “king is not dead” because people do not say the king is dead in Yorubaland. According to the monarchs son, Adetokunbo Sijuwade, the remains of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, will finally be laid to rest on Friday, August 14 at 10am. Mr. Sijuade said his father’s body would be flown in from London on Thursday. Obscure of Iremo, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Ife Traditional Council, Solomon Omisakin, and the Lowa Of Ile-Ife, Joseph Ijaodola, both affirmed the burial date of the Ooni at the press conference. They also said they were happy with the life led by the late Ooni and praised his legacies. While thanking the people of Osun State for their support for the late Ooni, they prayed God to help them get a better traditional ruler who would achieve better things for his people. |

The Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf
Aregbesola, on Monday said the outcome of the
2015 general elections saved Nigeria from
impending disaster.
The governor said the emergence of President
Muhammadu Buhari rescued the country as it
was almost ruined by the immediate past
administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
At the Osun Stakeholders’ Conference in Osogbo,
organised by Osun Legislators’ Forum, an
umbrella body for lawmakers in the House of
Representatives, Senate and state House of
Assembly, Ogbeni Aregbesola said the ongoing
financial crises in the country started under
Jonathan’s government.
He argued that the stakeholders’ conference,
which is the brainchild of the Osun federal
lawmakers, indicated the high level of
commitment of our representatives to the issue
of this state.
According to Aregbesola, “how we got to this
financial crisis is unknown to a lot of people, it is
only the wise who may have a flash of
understanding of what actually went wrong. It is
this similar crisis that we are also battling with in
this state as other states are also experiencing.
“This forum gives us opportunity to study in
depth, how this situation came about and for us
to find a lasting solution to the crisis, so that our
state will move forward.”
While enjoining the participants, drawn from civil
service, formal and informal sector, including
artisans, businessmen, socio-cultural groups and
others, to use the occasion to open up on their
grievances, the governor noted that
misconceptions and other ill-informed opinions
about his government were misplaced. |
Dr Atiku Abubakar, Deputy Managing Director,
Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), on
Tuesday said about N15 billion was required for
the nation to generate 8,000 megawatts of
electricity by 2016.
Abubakar made this known during inspection of
some ongoing electricity projects at the sidelines
of a training programme for auditors in Lagos.
He disclosed that electricity generation in the
country recently improved and attributed it to
improved gas supply to generating stations.
According to him, we have been able to reach
the highest peak so far in July of about 4,652
megawatts while the transmission capacity
remains a little above the power generated so
far.
He said that contrary to other opinions, TCN had
the capacity to transmit about 5,300 megawatts
of electricity.
‘’As generation is improving, we are expected to
expand transmission capacity to be able to
evacuate all that is being generated in the
stations for distribution.
“l can assured that we have our plans, targeting
projects that are very critical which have been
mapped out so that within the shortest possible
time, will be able to hit 8,000 megawatts
transmission capacity by end of 2016,’’ he said..
Abubakar said that interested investors who
were willing to invest in the transmission
segment had been shortlisted, adding that over
30 investors that could deliver on project had
been chosen.
He said that he would not disclosed the names
of the investors now, adding that ‘’we are trying
to see that they are capable both technically and
financially, because it is expected that they will
fund the project’’.
“Presently, we are in the process of coming up
with the frame work which will enable them to
recover their investment in time.
“Since Federal Government will not give them
sovereign guarantee, we are coming up with
modalities of repayment from our billing charges
and internally generated revenue for over a
period of time,’’ Abubakar said.

The next day Moses took his seat to serve as
judge for the people, and they stood around him
from morning till evening. When his father-in-
law saw all that Moses was doing for the people,
he said, “What is this you are doing for the
people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all
these people stand around you from morning till
evening?”
Moses answered him, “Because the people
come to me to seek God’s will. Whenever
they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I
decide between the parties and inform them of
God’s decrees and instructions.”
Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are
doing is not good. You and these people who
come to you will only wear yourselves out. The
work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it
alone. Listen now to me and I will give you
some advice, and may God be with you. You
must be the people’s representative before God
and bring their disputes to him. Teach them
his decrees and instructions, and show them the
way they are to live and how they are to behave.
But select capable men from all the people—
men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate
dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials
over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
Have them serve as judges for the people at
all times, but have them bring every difficult
case to you; the simple cases they can decide
themselves. That will make your load lighter,
because they will share it with you. If you do
this and God so commands, you will be able to
stand the strain, and all these people will go
home satisfied.”
Moses listened to his father-in-law and did
everything he said. He chose capable men
from all Israel and made them leaders of the
people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties
and tens. They served as judges for the
people at all times. The difficult cases they
brought to Moses, but the simple ones they
decided themselves.
Then Moses sent his father-in-law on his way,
and Jethro returned to his own country. |
