The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar has
admonished the United Nations Secretary
General, Ban Ki Moon, to assist Nigeria to
recover its stolen money that were stashed in
foreign countries.
The monarch stated that the millions of dollars
stolen from Nigeria were needed for development
of the country, pleading with the UN to assist
with the recovery of the loot.
Speaking at a dialogue on democracy, human
rights, development, climate change and
countering violent extremism, hosted by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja and chaired by
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday,
Abubakar assured that the looted fund would be
used by the Federal Government for the benefit
of the people, if recovered.
He said, “My final appeal, Mr. Secretary-General,
you are here in our country because you believe
in Nigeria, because you believe in the present
government, I would like to request you, how can
you use your office to bring back all the money
stolen from this country, and stashed in foreign
banks?
“I believe in Mr. President when he said
corruption is the worst human rights abuse in the
world, I sincerely believe in what he said because
corruption is the foundation of all bad
governance, and all religious crimes being
committed across the world.
“If we have corruption checked, we can’t
eradicate corruption, but we can reduce it to the
barest minimum, and if the money stolen and the
countries know that these money did not belong
to these people because they have not worked
for such amount of money in millions of dollars,
please see how you can help to bring this money
back, it would be used for the benefit of the
people. if you bring this money back, it will be
used for the benefit of the people, please help us
to bring this money back.”
The Sultan’s appeal elicited a loud applause from
the audience and a supporting quip from the
Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John
Onayeikan, who said, “It is not only our money
they should bring back, but also our girls.”
Abubakar also challenged the UN on the crisis in
the Middle-East, which he said had been raging
for ages, noting that political leaders had failed
their people by not taking decisive action when
necessary.
According to him, the two main religions, Islam
and Christianity have no problems, but individual
Muslims and Christians, adding that extremists
are using religions to cause problems across the
world.
Ban Ki Moon in his address stated that he was in
Nigeria to visit President Muhammadu Buhari
and to ensure strong UN partnership with the
country.
The UN scribe also challenged African
ambassadors among the audience to recommend
to their countries, strong cooperation with Nigeria
and the global body.
He stated that the UN has the ambition of
ensuring sustainable development goals of
ensuring gender parity, ending hunger and
poverty and combating corruption by 2030.
The Secretary-General stressed the importance
of tackling climate change, noting that
sustainable development goals may not be
realised without addressing the phenomenon. |

Is d PDP now d spokesman of the Obas? |
HIGHESTPOPORI:He is not fighting fashola, he is just trying to show him he is still d boss, am very sure they will come around, but as for Saraki, he needs to b careful about d screening of Fowler, else d headline u will see on TheNation newspaper d following day will b "Saraki takes war against BUHARI, APC to another level as he rejects BUHARI’S nominee" and u know d effect dat will av, since d man as been portrayed as d solution to taxation in Nigeria, dats why he needs to know how to pick his fight, some people have built demselves like an institution over d years n u can't just win a battle against dem n think u av won d war, wen Tinubu or thievenubu like dey call him, was invested in d media, it's for purposes like dis, so I think Saraki should be careful |
.. |
Orikinla:When people were busy gathering money for themselves, he was busy raising men, and today he has them in every sector n people are now unnecessarily jealous, one thing they can't dispute is that his men are always competent, although his ways may be rough and he may not be perfect but u can't take away his contributions for Nigeria. And if dey keep taking it personal with him, Nigeria will definitely be affected cos he has become a pillar (opomulero). |
Normally if it were to b ministerial screening, he can only be disqualified if two out of the three senators from his state rejects his nomination, but I don't know about other appointments, but if it's d same, den he has no problem since he has the three by his side |
The husband and son of immediate past Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, are set to open a multi-million dollar hospital in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala’s husband, Ikemba Iweala, and their son, Uchechi Iweala, are teaming up to establish the Capital Health and Surgical Care Center in Abuja. Both men, who are medical doctors, will serve as chairman of the board and medical director respectively at the medical facility described as state of the art. The hospital was originally to be formally opened last June by former President Goodluck Jonathan, on the assumption that he would be reelected. Mr. Jonathan’s defeat froze the idea. Information available on the hospital’s website, http://www.chscnigeria.com/home/ page?id=Press, states that the hospital “is conceived to improvetertiary-level healthcare delivery in Nigeria and Greater West Africa by providing top-rate service of international standard.” The hospital, which has been quietly under construction and development in the last three years, is equipped with 50 beds, three operating rooms, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and CT scan. The undisclosed financiers of the project apparently spared no expense in conceiving the project. The project’s architectural design was undertaken by Perkins + Will Global (http:// perkinswill.com), a major player in the world’s architectural scene. The firm is based in Washington, DC with offices in more than 24 countries all over the world. The firm of architects has designed various multi-billion dollar projects in the US, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. The hospital’s interior design was done by Perkins + Will/ DAR Group. Another US-based multinational company, General Electric, handled the hospital’s technological equipment and infrastructure. The project does not list any indigenous Nigerian company as being involved in the conception or execution of any aspect of the hospital. While the hospital’s website does not provide any cost estimate, two sources familiar with the project claimed that the Iweala’s hospital cost between$100 and $150 million. An Abuja-based architect also told this reporter that the profile Perkins + Wills suggested that the hospital was pricey. “If we go by the scale of projects that Perkins + Wills gets involved in, then we can conclude that this was a major project,” the US-trained architect said. The hospital’s website provides no information about the financing of the project. SaharaReporters contacted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to ascertain whether the anti-corruption agency knew the financial backers of the project. “No, we are not aware,” a senior EFCC official told our correspondent. He added that the agency had no reason to investigate the source of the hospital’s funds. He added, “The only issue is that the arrowheads of the hospital are family members of the former Coordinating Minister of the Economy. But we cannot just investigate unless we receive information that public funds were somehow committed to the project.” |
