If her younger brothers can't speak English, it's not too late for them to start, it's a matter of enrolling them in a school and they start from there.

Investment / Re: Alert: In Case You Missed It: MMM Managed By Convicted Russian Fraudster by Shadeolad(f): 9:08pm On Nov 24, 2016
We know. Thank you. Now run along.
EmerieUduchukwu:
Alert: In Case You Missed It: MMM Managed By Convicted Russian Fraudster

• Published By Independent Newspaper United Kingdom

Thousands of investors are feared to have lost their money after a pyramid scheme run by a convicted Russian fraudster crashed, somewhat predictably, in Zimbabwe.

MMM Global has swept across Africa, with branches promising returns on investment of 30 per cent a month in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and some east African states.

It is masterminded by the former Russian politician Sergey Mavrodi, who went on the run when the original MMM – standing for Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox – collapsed in the late 1990s, losing investors an estimated $100m.

On its website, MMM Global unashamedly advertises itself as a scheme whereby new members “assist” older members by paying a fee to join. Older members are allowed to withdraw money after a certain period of time, and receive bonuses for encouraging others to sign up.

Mavrodi himself is reported to have gone into hiding after a separate entity designed to reward investors with the cryptocurrency bitcoin – dubbed the “Republic of Bitcoin” – folded in April this year.

And since then, a criminal investigationhas been launched into MMM Global’s branch in South Africa, after a probe by the National Consumer Commission “found something” to suggest the scheme was acting illegally.

With Zimbabwe’s traditional financial institutions in jeopardy and the country gripped by an economic crisis, thousands turned to MMM Global as an investment that was avowedly independent of government control.

That’s despite a warning from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe that the scheme was fraudulent. RBZ warned members of the public that existing investors were “paid money not from genuine market investment of their funds, but from contributions made by new investors, until a point when the scheme can no longer attract new investors”.

Sure enough, users reported being unable to withdraw any funds earlier this month. One told The Herald newspaper: “When we started putting our funds in the scheme one could get assistance within seven days but things later changed to 14 days and when we were shut out the waiting period was 21 days.

“What it simply means is that the number of people in need of help has outnumbered the number of people joining. Right now we have nowhere to get our money which we invested.”

Despite the cautionary tales of Zimbabwe and South Africa – and indeed the original MMM scheme – a branch is now proving increasingly popular in Nigeria.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has been forced to step in, warning consumers not to deposit money in any institution that is not insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
The bank’s comms director, Isaac Okoroafor, described MMM Global as “a new Ponzi scheme … that is spreading like wildfire”.

“These people always come with very interesting propositions,” Mr Okoroafor said. “These are fraudsters who are just out there to collect people’s money and run away as soon as they hit their target.”

MMM Global’s members across Africa continue to defend its legitimacy, publishing screengrabs showing withdrawals as proof the scheme pays out.

In South Africa, where a Ponzi scheme is defined as any investment where the return is 20 per cent higher than the repo rate (currently 7 per cent), an anonymous member told business website Fin24: “MMM honestly tell people how it really works and do not promise people any return on the investments.

“As a donation programme, how is it possible to lose your donation? In MMM people ask each other to help them. It depends on the members themselves to maintain the continuation of the process of the provision of help to each other.”

A number of South African banks have now started shutting down accounts they believe could be linked to MMM, while in Zimbabwe the trusted mobile money transfer company EcoCash has distanced itself from the scheme, saying it is “not liable for any losses arising from the use of EcoCash to engage in illegal activities such as Ponzi schemes”.

wealth123:
MMM is not an investment. You are so ignorant and also very lazy to do proper research and due diligence about the program before spewing thrash.MMM is a donation exchange financial network. The participants use their money to help one another and they get rewarded with 30% of help provided after 30 days.Tell me what is wrong with that. You are advised to participate with your spare money or simply money you can give away. Tell me now, if i decide to give away N1,000 or even N10,000, what is your business about that? Also, what is the business of Government or SEC and CBN, with what i do with my money? And as to where the 30% comes from, it is called Crowd funding, we pool our money together and people get paid at different times just like Banks. All of us cannot come at the same time so there will always be money to pay the few that need money.

Insurance and Pension funds also use this principle. But because Banks and Insurance pay taxes to Government, nobody will criticize them.Even the Betting Houses, Casinos and Baba Ijebu are operating legally even though they are pure Gambling, just because Government is collecting taxes from them. MMM is different, we don't gamble with our money, we help one another by donating generously, there is no central account where you send the money, we transfer money to individuals within the community, so nobody can run away with people's money like a PONZI Scheme. Also, nobody can close it down because it is internet based and has no office. We don't need any office and you don't pay tax on money you are giving to help your brother, sister or neighbour who is in need.

Nobody is forcing you to join, but mark my words, sooner or later, you will beg someone in MMM to register you. Just to let you know, i have been making cool money in MMM since April 2016 and am participating with my spare money as stipulated by the founder. The program is helping millions in 118 countries of the world with more than 200 million participants and about 1.3m participants in Nigeria. The number is growing per second. It will not crash as people are postulating due to their ignorance. MMM Nigeria, will be a year old in November 2016 and it has changed many lives financially.

Those who turn it to investment program or HYIP are going against the rules of MMM. Should we now stop it or call it a Ponzi Scheme because of a few bad eggs? No is the answer.

If you want to join, chat me up on 08082083126. i will guide you. The minimum to join is N1000. There is no point condemning what you know nothing about. Just try it with N1000. At least you can afford to give a beggar that amount. Please do not chat me up if you don't want to register, i don't have time for, time wasters and those who want to remain poor. God bless you.
. God bless u dear

It's not easy to just enroll kids in govt school as u all think. Lots of man no man couple with bribery and corruption. And there are certain classes they take. And they always prefer kids to start from scratch with them. They have laid down rules as per admission. Mrs Falana's 1st child is in Jss2. No gvt school will take him now, except when he's going to ss1. The 2nd is in basic 5, no Govt schl will accept such transfer until jss 1. 3rd is basic 3,(may be 1st term they may accept her). U all can see dat such transfer cannot be immediate, and lots of palms to grease in d process. Pls let us help her get out of the immediate predicament, so she can stand on her feet again.te author=EfemenaXY post=45161400]

Dominique, thanks for the explanation.

I do get where you're coming from but let's be practical and do some sums here. You mentioned earlier that this lady is at the verge of being kicked out of her home and onto the streets with her 4 kids for non-payment of her rent.

~ The outstanding school fees for her kids (probably a year's worth?) = N75K
~ Outstanding rent arrears + 1 year's full rent = N42K

The amount owed for her kids private school education is over 3 years worth of rent (N72K) + an extra N3K extra.

Yes, we all like the finer things in life and strive to do give our kids the best. But there comes a point in time where when faced with hardship that one just has prioritize. Right now, having a roof over their heads is way more important than keeping them in a school she can't afford.

Even over here, we do get people that have to make a hard choice between "heat" or "eat". (i.e. keeping warm during the bitter cold winter nights, or having something to eat).

Food, clothing, and shelter are basic primary necessities that should never be compromised.

Education (private education) is a secondary need for which an alternative (government schools) exist. She should pull her kids out of that / those schools, use the money to secure the roof over their heads and kick-start her failing business. As her business slowly starts to recover, she should look to either sending her kids to extra after-school-lessons, or employing the cheaper services of a young unemployed graduate to teach her kids at home.

When she's firmly back in business, then and only then should she consider sending her kids back to private schools (on the basis that she'll be able to comfortably afford the fees).
Field worker's report:

I visited Mrs Akinlana today as planned at her shop/residence..

She has 4 children –
Oldest 12 years is in Jss 2,
2 Kids in primary school,
A baby of about 14 months who I met with her.

She narrated her ordeal with her hubby, how he left home unannounced leaving her to cater for 4 children and with 9months rent in debt. She mentioned that she has been the one paying for the children's school fees for 4 years now - about N53k per term‎. This has affected her business a great deal. They also had some extra budgetary expenses last Dec that made her collect money from Corporative hoping that her husband will refund her as promised. She has recently finished paying the loan. She is not owing anyone except for the Landlady and school fees.

She is looking at assistance with the rent, present schools‎ fees and some funds to restock her business.

She appears to be very hard working. She makes hair, sells soft drinks (bottles & can), hair products and extensions, sugar, exercise books and so on. She also makes and sell washing soap.

Her rent is N2000 per month for a room. They occupy 2 rooms and are owing for 9months.

We have advised her to release the husband's room to the landlord so that the rent doesn’t keep accumulating‎ as it isn’t sustainable going forward. A new rent is due by June.

School fees : N71, 500 for the 3 children. School bill attached.

It's been over 24 hours since I posted, yet no responseembarassed sad

I was at her place yesterday to check on her. I asked her how much grace has the landlord given her to pay up the rent. She told me the care-taker has intimated the landlord and she has been told to bring six months rent (N18k). As regards the children's schooling, the proprietress is aware of the situation and gave her time to pay in installments. I can see that she has been able to buy some wares to her shop but the the shop is still a far cry from what it used to be. The daily struggle is really telling on her and she deserves a break.

I am appealing to TeHN and Nairalanders to please come to the aid of this poor lady with the little you can give. Sadly she is not tech savvy and does not have a GPRS enabled phone. I prepared to provide any form of verification answers you require. May God bles you all and meet you at your point of need. May we never encounter challenges beyond our powers.

I was moved to tears as I read this. I happen to know dis woman and her kids. U failed to add dat the kids are extremely brilliant. I heard her of her predicament thru Pple around. Good job u r doing Op.

Car Talk / Re: URGENT Help Needed - Recommend A Reliable FORD EDGE 2008 Mechanic by Shadeolad(f): 9:38pm On Mar 11, 2016
everydayperson:
Please folks. I have been a guest the past year and I respect the valued information i get here mostly.
I have a Ford Edge 2008 SEL. It over-heats after 15-20 kilometers

Problems
1: The Radiator became clogged with mud during the rains from 2015 (Radiator is a single-cell with 2 FANS)
2: The mud was washed away with high-pressure spray and the fans replaced. The water flow was tested for any leakages
3: When Air-Conditioning is turned-on the Car Over-heats much faster. When it is turned-off, it does not over-heat

I bought a Ford Diagnostic Tool but do not know how to use it.

I need a recommendation to a reliable mechanic from anyone who has used him and can confirm that
1: Is knowledgeable enough to know what the problem(s) is(are) and how to fix it without re-occurrence
2: Does not inflate prices of parts to cheat owner - this is 2016 and cash is hard to come by
3: Does not introduce a new problem after fixing the one detected (the ones I have used in the past always fix one problem and give me 3 others)

Please I await your recommendations
I had this same issue with my Mpv mazda. Get a good radiator mechanic to remove the radiator completely from d vehicle and wash. Not the car wash kind of washing. Trust me ur vehicle will be good to go. I initially washed d radiator at the carwash without bringing it out. Problem persisted, but when it was loosened and brought out to wash by a radiator man. U need to see d caked mud. Ever since it was washed, the overheating stopped.

She needs to feel, touch and cuddle her baby which was gradually and deceitfully been denied her. She has just realised what they were trying to do. They don't want her to be part of d child's life cos they feel she's not in their league, hence they want to use money to keep her at bay. She needs her child and d money too. They need d baby and not the mother
Atlantian:

One thing we MUST agree is that David takes absolute good care of the baby. That we can agree. What is the worry of the mother of this baby, when you know your daughter is with the father and the child is doing well, far better than she could do. These are accidental parents and for a 23yrs of guy to love his kid that much, we must say the truth. If some lady told me she was pregnant for me when I was 21yrs, na slap she go chop before heading for D&C. David is a marvel, he owned up and take good care of his responsibilities.

Did you read that she receives 300,000 every month and 500,000 for Xmas ? What is that money for ? Why didnt she ask questions ? You dont keep the baby, yet you are receiving monthly upkeep ? Do you see that they keep in touch ? It means they interacted this month and every month. So what the heck does this woman want ? David became her ATM machine even when he still takes care of the baby, then it is simply not cool. She was just after the Adeleke's name and wealth. She is a gold-digger, now she is getting the monies. You cant eat your cake and have it.
