ABUJA-TWENTY four hours to House of Representatives resumption, members of the opposition All Progressives Congress ,APC impeachment plot against President Jonathan gathers momentum. Also, there are indications that about 20 PDP members in the House may defect to the main opposition party tomorrow. Lawmakers of other parties in the House aggrieved that they lost out at the recently concluded primaries are also decamping to APC. One of the arrowheads of the impeachment project that spoke to Vanguard under the condition of anonymity at the weekend confirmed that the idea is not “dead” as being insinuated in certain quarters. www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/apc-reps-plot-impeach-jonathan-thickens/ |

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that its flag-bearer, President Goodluck Jonathan, is up for the presidential electoral contest on February 14, 2015 with the former Governor of Lagos state, Alhaji Bola Tinubu and not General Muhammadu Buhari. It said that the former Head of state was a mere political errand boy of Tinubu. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Sunday said the APC Presidential candidate, General Buhari is merely a front for Alhaji Tinubu to whom he has already surrendered his powers and first official assignment of choosing a running mate. PDP explained that Buhari has already surrendered the task of choosing his presidential running mate to Tinubu, whom it described as his political task master www.thisdaylive.com/articles/a-vote-for-buhari-is-a-vote-for-tinubu-pdp/196690/ |
BENIN CITY-GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says the 16 years rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the country has re- partitioned Nigerians along ethnic and religious divide, saying that the situation had not only weakened the foundation of our unity “but has also played brothers against brothers, leading to so much bloodshed”. He therefore said the only solution to the nation’s problems was for Nigerians to vote for change come 2015, asserting that the PDP led Federal Government has shown incompetence in fixing the problems despite their 16 years reign so far in the country. The governor stated this while speaking to Newsmen shortly after attending the 22nd convocation ceremony and the 50th anniversary of the Auchi Polytechnic. The Governor admonished the PDP to leave the stage and “do soul searching to know why after 16 years in power, they have not fixed power, they have not fixed education, they have not fixed the health sector, they have not fixed the roads, they have dashed the expectation of the youths and they have polluted the political atmosphere and they have weakened the foundation of our national unity, they have re-partitioned the country along religious divide, along ethnic divide, they have played brothers against brothers, sisters against sisters. “They are buffeting us with primordial sentiments in place of issues of development and the country is weaker today than it was before. We need people who fought to keep Nigeria together to come back and re-fix what PDP has broken and it is all about all of us today. Nigerians should vote for change, even PDP needs change, you can see; the internal contradictions within the PDP is like a weak fabric; the more you patch it, the more it gets torn and after 16 years, even PDP will agree that they haven’t delivered on the promises of democracy” he said. He continued, “Look at the newspapers, they have issues today because the cost of production is going up because of escalating cost of procuring diesel because you are still not able to print with power inspite of all the reforms and deforms of the power sector. Look at the typical newspaper today, you don’t find products adverts what you find is obituary, birthdays , endless congratulatory messages . “The Private sector is dead and that is why you are not getting adverts for products and you are not going to be able to create jobs if you don’t revive the private sector and as you can see even though between 1999 till date, the oil sector has performed better than it was in the previous ten years”. Asserting that the Federal Government must stop complaining to Nigerians about the drop in oil price, Oshiomhole recalled that “during the regimes of Abacha and Abdulsalami, oil price dropped to $10 so Nigeria has never had it so good since democracy, it picked up to $140 around 2006 and even now that we are complaining, it is about $60 to $65 so relative to the past, it is still a god price but like they say no nation has enough to satisfy the greed of leaders but if we manage what have well, we have enough to meet the basic needs of our people. “And there is no question that our people are living in denial, in the midst of plenty but I am even more worried about the deliberate efforts to weaken unity in order to create all kinds of divide. All of a sudden, the Nigerian Army that is reputed all over the world to have fought and to be helping to secure neighbouring countries like Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Sudan and others when they witnessed internal crisis, now it is our turn to look inwards and we are told that our soldiers are running, what has gone wrong? “What has changed that we are no longer the giant? That we can’t even get arms to buy in official markets, we have to go underground? Are we under sanctions by who and why? Why are we not earning respect, why are we not trusted? So for me, even the PDP will recognise that they need time to go and rest so that they can ask themselves some soul searching; that how come that in 16 years we left the country weaker than we met it. “Then the change forces which I belong to will then learn from their own failure and of course with the logic of change, re-order our national priorities, evolve a more judicious application to our national resource and lay emphasis on production rather than importation and give the Nigerian young people the basis of hope and a basis to remain loyal to the Nigerian state”. www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/oshiomhole-enjoins-nigerians-vote-change-come-2015/ |

Pretty and curvy actress, Ebube Nwagbo is single. No doubt, many men are hoping to have her hand in marriage, but Ebube seems only interested in concentrating on her jobs and selling her Posh Hair products. Hear what she said about her single status: “I am still single. “The reason is that I am someone who has always believed in love. It is a big deal to me so if I have to do it, it has to be right. I am a strong believer of love. I get lots of proposals; it is so crazy I do not know who to give a chance to. I think it is a price I have to pay for stardom. “Sometimes when anybody comes my way, I do not know who wants to be with me for the right reasons. I believe when that day comes, I will definitely figure out who that person is. It is not easy. “What I should be talking about is not relationship but marriage. I want to go into marriage and be in it for ever. No one goes into marriage thinking of divorce, but it happens. We try our best. “I think I am kind of scared, but I just have to give it a try whether I like it or not. It just has to happen and happen right; at the right time.”

The dream of every woman is to find a man to spend her entire life with. Even the Holy religious books have enjoined men and women, to seek each other out and cohabit as man and wife. But as beautiful and simple as this may sound, marriage has long gone from being a simple item on a menu, it has become a task, as finding a true life partner has become as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack. It is particularly more difficult for the womenfolks as they have to be proposed to. As liberated as our society is now, it is hard to find a woman that would go out of her way to propose to a man. The norm is the other way round. So, for a woman, waiting to get a marriage proposal may me as certain as waiting for the proverbial hen to play a golden egg. It doesn’t have to do with beauty, wealth or status, or else all the Nollywood divas would have been long married before they hit their 30s. Why are these ladies still single in spite of their relative affluence and beauty? Meet some of Nollywood singles in their 30s, 40s still single and why: Sexy and daring Nollywood actress, Empress Njamah says she can never contemplate dating a poor man, let alone consider getting married to one. When she was asked recently to talk about marriage, she discounted the issue with a wave of the hand, saying, “Please, marriage is not the thing on my mind right now”. She went further to say “I can’t marry my colleague! Boring living in the same house with someone you know his job so well as well as his income! Should you be more popular or get richer than the man, then you are in trouble as this could be dangerous. If you are on six figures and he is on less, there is trouble. Men and their egos!”. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/nollywood-divas-30s-40s-yet-marry-marriage-thing-mind-empress-njamah/

Tension is mounting at the Presidency and the core North over the court case challenging the eligibility of President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2015 presidential election. Competent sources said, last night, that the Presidency was worried that the case could upset its political permutations should the Supreme Court rule against Jonathan running in the election. The main headache of the Presidency is that if the apex court rules that its principal could not run in 2015, it would be difficult for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to organise another National Convention to elect another candidate to meet the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said to be December 18, two days after the hearing. The case was said to have been on the radar of presidential minders believed to have also made contacts to know how the case could go and the justices to sit on it. Meanwhile, Jonathan’s opponents, particularly from the core North, it was learnt, were expectant that the case would be decided against the president having taken the oath of office twice for the office. Sunday Vanguard gathered from judicial sources that top officials of the Supreme Court were aware of the heightened interest in the case, slated for hearing on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 and were working hard to block undue access to the case file. The heightened tension, according to the sources, manifested in unceasing enquiries over the composition of the panellists to hear the crucial matter. Although the case was filed during the tenure of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Aloma Mukthar, the sources said there had been intense pressure on the current CJN, who took over about two weeks ago, to reconstitute the panel. Those in support of Jonathan were said to be rooting for a justice sympathetic to his cause to head the panel while those who want the president disqualified from running in the 2015 election, favoured a neutral and fearless arbiter to preside over the case. A top judicial official confirmed that the CJN was yet to re-constitute the panel to hear the case at the close of work on Friday even though he was aware that the case had been slated for hearing on Tuesday. The official said it was normal in a very crucial judicial matter of that nature for the CJN to interfere in the composition of the panellists to ensure that justice is delivered to all the parties concerned. He said: “The eligibility case filed by some persons against President Jonathan is a serious matter, which the CJN has taken notice of and the normal process of setting up the panel, a few hours to the hearing, will be done. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/eligibility-question-jonathans-ambition-hangs/#sthash.YxZSx8pN.dpuf

The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has described the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 presidential election as well deserved. The candidature of the President, who was the sole candidate of the party in the primaries, was ratified by the 2,812 votes cast at the party’s convention held in Abuja on Thursday. In a statement by the state commissioner for information, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Mimiko said the peaceful process that produced the president as the party’s candidate was a pointer to his popularity and recognition of his achievements since becoming the President of the country. While assuring the President of victory in Ondo State, Mimiko said, “The president has over time demonstrated his genuine love for the country and would do everything humanly possible to ensure that it remains an indivisible entity.” “The time is now for Nigerians to rally round President Jonathan to achieve his dream of a better Nigeria. His achievements in the area of Agriculture, education, health, transportation, road rehabilitation, energy and the economy are laudable and should continue so that he can realise his dream for the country” “Since it was the will of God that the president assumed office in the first place, the same God who ensured he won the party’s candidature without any rancour will ensure that he is elected as the next President of our dear nation next year.” www.punchng.com/news/jonathans-emergence-as-pdp-candidate-well-deserved-mimiko/ |
