ComputersRe: Help! My External Hard Drive Is Inaccessible by shawlxAk(m): 6:01pm On Feb 22, 2016
Files that were omitted, were probably corrupted.
Send me a message on Whatsapp -- details on my profile.

sheikshegetto:
Thanks for replying,I wouldn't mind having another go at the testdisk because I noticed the file recovery omitted quite a few of my data, especially the games and media folders, most especially the games cos I realised they no longer launches, and I'm yet to acquire another hdd of a similar size to back up on,the few files I managed to recover on my pc seems to have lost a few data
ComputersRe: Help! My External Hard Drive Is Inaccessible by shawlxAk(m): 12:51pm On Feb 22, 2016
Testdisk is for power users. I should have given you the exact steps to follow in an easy-to-understand manner. Backup your recovered files to a safe location first. And yes, format the drive to create the desired filesystem.

sheikshegetto:
Hi guys, sorry it took me a while to give some feedback, the testdisk scanning alone took 12 straight hours, and with the erratic power supplies I could barely manage to get it completed, well the teskdisk was unable to create a partition after hours of scanning,I managed to acquire a m3 data recovery app which also failed to change the hdd raw format,I then finally scanned it using the app's file recovery option,I was able to retrieve some,if not all my files, will I be able to change my hdd from raw back to fat32 by formatting the drive?
ComputersRe: Why Do I Have To Restart A Public/cafe System After Use by shawlxAk(m): 4:30pm On Feb 19, 2016
You don't have to.

I guess they do that in a bid to cover their tracks.

For example, to prevent the next user from viewing the sites that they visited.

However, the right way to do it is to access the browser's options page and manually delete cookies, temp files, browsing history et al.

Restarting the system alone does nothing in that regard.

ikorodureporta:
After signing/logging out, some people still restart the system.

Why is this done. I need a v.good explanation....
ComputersRe: Help! My External Hard Drive Is Inaccessible by shawlxAk(m):
Formatting may reduce your chances of recovering all lost data. Again, testdisk will do the job just fine, as long as your drive is not physically damaged.

sheikshegetto:
Thanks,i simply could not risk formatting first because most file recovery apps tends to recover 20mb to 1Gb file space except if paid for,I've got over 300Gb worth of files on the drive
ComputersRe: Help! My External Hard Drive Is Inaccessible by shawlxAk(m): 8:45pm On Feb 17, 2016
It's safer to recover the lost partition first. That way, you have a better chance of recovering all lost data.

airsaylongcon:
I normally would format the drive and immediately run recovery on it using a combination of Testdisk/Photorec and GetDataBack or Easeus
ComputersRe: My Documents Folder Appears Twice: Solution by shawlxAk(m): 2:45pm On Feb 17, 2016
How do you mean?

Greetings friends, pls how can I fix this; my documents folder appears double. Am using Windows 8. Tnx
ComputersRe: Help! My External Hard Drive Is Inaccessible by shawlxAk(m): 2:41pm On Feb 17, 2016
You actually ran chkdsk on your OS drive.

Chkdsk would not work on a raw disk.

Do not format the drive.

Download and run testdisk to try and recover the lost partition and data.

Then, you can back up your data and run chkdsk /f on the external hard drive. Be sure to specify the appropriate drive letter as well.

sheikshegetto:
My 500GB Samsung G2 suddenly stopped working after my pc restarted impromptu, the error message I got when I tried to open it was "Drive not accessible, parameter is incorrect,I tried checking it out via the disk manager, found out the format is raw,I then tried check disk repair on the cdm command prompt which had always worked for my other hard drive but now after restarting my pc,all I've been getting whenever I tried opening the drive is format drive, please has this ever happened to a nairalander? And is there any possibility I might recover my files or repair the drive?
ComputersRe: A Core I3 Or A Quad Core Laptop? by shawlxAk(m):
A little too late, but you should have gone for a quadcore processor.

Intel Pentium still got it. Quad core = 4 logical cores.

Core i3 = two logical cores.

More cores = more instructions processed at a time.

It's simple logic. You would have saved on some cost too.

chukspd:
thanks guys. I got a core i3
ComputersRe: I Can't Remember My Windows Server 2012 Password. Help! by shawlxAk(m): 9:46pm On Feb 09, 2016
Is this in a production environment or a lab? There are a few ways to accomplish that.

One of which is:

Download konboot, burn the ISO file to a CD/DVD, boot the system from it. It will let you log in without a password. Once in, change your password.

samjadinero:
My admin password expired, I changed it (but my mind was not with me that afternoon). So I tried to to log in the next morning and the password I thought I registered wasn't the right one. How do I reset the password, please? Thanks.
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 1:34pm On Feb 09, 2016
Boot the PC into Safe Mode and see if the same problem occurs.

ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 1:32pm On Feb 09, 2016
Power cycle the PC and immediately press the appropriate key to enter BIOS setup (usually f2). In BIOS setup, navigate to the boot tab and see if your hard drive is listed.

Have you found another AC adapter?

Hard reset: Disconnect the AC adapter, remove the battery and all connected peripheral devices. Press & hold the power button for about 60 secs. Connect the AC adapter only, and try to power on the laptop.

Akell:
how do I do ? Hard reset? Will it affect my files?

Use Internet Connection Sharing.

ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 12:30am On Feb 09, 2016
Test with another AC adapter nonetheless.

Akell:

thanks
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 12:13am On Feb 09, 2016
It seems like there's been a major hardware failure. Take it to an engr. for physical examination.

Try a hard reset though.

Akell:
YES, IT HEATS UP. DON'T KNOW WHY THOUGH. IF IT'S BESIDE A METAL, THE METAL WILL BE SO HOT THAT IT COULD BURN YOUR CHEEK. HOWEVER, THERE'S SUFFICIENT GAP ON THE VENT.

I have two batteries. I mean good ones. I have tried both - Same issue. Meanwhile, when I connected the adapter without the battery, it still gave me th same issue. The 'charge led' came on, but a I powered on, the light goes off and the laptop didn't come up.
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 11:43pm On Feb 08, 2016
Remove the battery and try to power up the system with only the AC adapter connected. What do you notice?

Test with another AC adapter.

Akell:
Please all the gurus in the house I need help. I was using my brian laptop just to notice that it shut down few minutes later. However, before this incident, I've always noticed that sometimes when it's plugged in to a power source and I disconnect it maybe cus the battery is fully charged, it switches off immediately. I will have to switch it on again. And at times, it doesn't trip of when I remove it from a power source. But this noon, was watching a movie and it tripped off and has refused to come up. I changed battery, same thing.
N.B: when I plug it to a power source, it shows the 'charge led' and when I try to switch on, the led light goes off.

Again, when I try to switch it on (not plugged in), the led blinks but doesn't power on.

SOLUTION PLEASE
Windows 10 pro (activated)
64bit
Intel core i3
500 HDD

Cc: shawlxAk, Lexusgs430, airsaylongcon, sameolg616, bigt2 please come to my rescue. What can I do to revive my laptop?

You shouldn't bother yourself. I already told him what to do in clear terms. Apparently, the problem was solved, but he created the problem again by re-installing the apps that caused the problem in the first instance.

In that case, you should also pay attention to the amount of installed physical memory.

If you haven't read my laptop buying guide already, here's a link to the post. It will be very helpful to you.

Seriously? I don't think you did it right. If System Restore didn't solve the problem, System Refresh would certainly have. Get an engineer to help you physically.

ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m):
You clicked the column header to sort by Disk Usage?

Your hard drive could be failing.

Try chkdisk.

Note: This might take a long while to complete, depending on the size of the hard drive.

Right click the drive and choose properties > On the Tools tab, click Check Now > On the Check Disk Options Page, click both checkboxes and click start. When prompted, accept to schedule disk check.

Restart the system for chkdsk to run.

BTW, try scanning for malware too.

ComputersRe: Closed by shawlxAk(m): 1:05pm On Feb 04, 2016
From a technical standpoint, the size of the hard drive should not be a priority.

May I ask how you intend to use the laptop?

shyshally:
Good day everyone. Pls I want to buy a new laptop with the following specs

ComputersRe: Major Things To Consider When Shopping For A Laptop by shawlxAk(op): 12:58pm On Feb 04, 2016
What is your budget?

HP 250 | 4GB RAM | 500GB HDD | Intel Pentium | Dual core or Quad core | Processor speed greater than 2.0GHz -- I bought the quad core type last year for 75k. Current price range is 78k to 90k.

Kazna69:
Hey dude, can you recommend a budget laptop for graphic design? I'd like one to be 15' Full HD display, slim & lightweight design, good battery life. Maybe decent graphics card but I need that battery life.

CPU and memory are fluctuating.

What error message does it display?

Can you connect to the same WiFi networks on another device? E.g your smart phone?

Have you tried disabling your security software?

Try the network troubleshooting wizard.

Kimmyslaw:
I have done that several times, it cnt connect ton any wifi but it can see the wifi, I formated d system yet it still cnt connect
ComputersRe: Problem Of Unwanted Shutting Down And Restarting by shawlxAk(m): 6:42pm On Feb 03, 2016
Press the Windows key. At the start screen, type Advanced Startup > Click "Change Advanced Startup Options" > Click Restart Now. After the system restarts, click Troubleshoot on the page that appears > Click Advanced Options and then, System Restore. The wizard will guide you from then on.

If there are no restore points, or if System Restore fails, you can repeat the steps above but after the PC restarts, click Refresh your PC instead of System Restore.

Send me a direct message if you run into anything else. Check my profile for contact details.

Did you try System Restore?

Be sure to disconnect all peripheral devices -- including the SD card that I see in that picture.
