It is wrong to conclude that they are fake, although they exaggerated too much. Most insincere tech support people do that -- from computer techs to auto mechanics etc. They also intentionally break things just to make the problem look more serious.

The only issue is that they requested payment in advance and you had no guaranty. Nonetheless, they also had no guaranty that you would pay after service.

System Restore will fix your issue. Press Windows key + R > Type rstrui > Follow the steps to restore your computer to a previous OK state.

I installed Office 2016 which could not work because I didn't have the correct key. It integrated itself with Office 2013 that was already working in my computer and made it invalid. I could no longer use any of the Office packages. I can't work on Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
I decided to Uninstall the Office 2016 but it refused to go. It keeps reporting error 30180-4. I did not want to start deleting the files manually from Programs folder. I went online to look for the best solution of removing this Office and reinstall my 2013 version.
I came across what looked like Microsoft Office support Center with the solution I needed to Uninstall the application. However, when I tried their solution, it didn't work. I went back to the page to follow a pop up window that offered a live chat with their technicians. I was able to connect to them.
The technician, Rose, requested to connect to my computer to assist me deal with the problem. "She" sent me a link to a program "LogMeIn" that I downloaded to give her access to my computer. Before I did that I considered that there is nothing too secret or important in my computer that requires too much security.
After every thing they guy started asking me to pay some amount in dollars. I had to log out. I have discovered after that, that my computer is no longer working well as pop-ups keep springing up and taking over my browser. Now I am searching for better Antivirus to treat the new problem. I am also changing my email password because I don't know what they might have done on my system through the remote control.
I have learned my lesson. Beware!!

Enter BIOS setup and restore BIOS defaults.

If the issue persists, run startup repair from a Windows installation device.

there is this hp elitebook 8440p that am trying windows 10 on, the system freezes momentarily and goes on and in some cases like if am listening to music or playing movies, the songs hangs like mad likewise the movies in fact it makes the system drags like hell. i used task manager to watch the system over 1 week and discovered that the toshiba 640gb is always active ie always in 100%, the time the system unfreezes is when the hard disk percentage reduces but it immediately hangs at 100% again

Regarding your second question, you're on the right track. However, go for CAT 5e or CAT 6 Ethernet cables. CAT5 is becoming obsolete. You may need a router too for internet connection sharing.

So on Thursday i got this system, not brand new, but as they say UK used.......... the body is neat and all.
To the main issue, when i was getting it, i noticed it is a windows vista, but upgraded to windows 7 ultimate.... so i asked for necessary applications for it(Microsoft office and webcam), as an accountant and a blogger, i don't need a very powerful system, the picture attached below of the rating attached below.


Then i added user, put password and all, then all of a sudden if i open or try to open any program(my computer, recycle bin e.t.c) it would bring out a error pop up that "WINDOWS EXPLORER IS RESTARTING", and after the pop up, the desktop would refresh. and also anytime i try to use my internet explorer, it would hang the system.


What i have been able to do is, i restored system settings from a restore point, so that has been sustaining me, please HELP ME!!!! COMPUTER GURUS, the issue is driving me nut what should i do as the internet explorer is still hanging my system, and if i add user it would be windows explorer would be restarting.

You may choose to reinstall Windows 7 or go for a newer version. It's your choice, ultimately. I would recommend Windows 8.1.

After reformatting, see if it runs hot still.

I just bought this Dell latitude E6500 from a seller in computer village, though, he advertised it here on nairaland.
I sent money to my sister whom I know she is not the tech type to help me pay and access the system quality.
Unknown to me that the system is that so fucking big plus bad design, my sister payed and accessed it even, with the help of is co-worker, a lady. Though I don't know her capability.
After everthing has been settled, my sister forward it to me after 3 day of purchase here in Osun State.
On powering the laptop, I noticed all this.
1.So so slow, depsite having a 2gb ram and 160gb harddisk on intel core 2 duo proccessor.
2. It overheats too much, the rate at which it's hot, it can boil a water.
3. Gradually, I inserted nokia ovi suite as the first software to be installed, the dvd drive/ the system was so so slow to read the disc and install it, though it installed later.
4. I now insert Avast Internet Security Software, after installed, I run the software. Come see as how the antivirus they detect virus, blocking them. E.t.c.
Since then, the laptop starts malfunctioning till now.
My problem with the laptop now is that it HOTS, SLOW, and MALFUNCTIONS despite having 2gb ram installed on core 2 duo processor.
What can I do?
Help me because the seller no gree accept my complain.

Did the problem recently start?

Boot into Safe Mode and see if the same thing happens.

Try updating your graphics drivers.

It could be a broken wire -- take it to an Engineer near you for physical inspection.

If you mean that it takes too long to start-up, then it is usually as a result of some start-up apps and/or services initializing in the background. Try disabling them.

It sounds like an unstable Toshiba-related service.

Try the following.

Open Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and double-click System Configuration.

In System Configuration, click the Services tab.

In the lower left area, click the check-box that says, "Hide all Microsoft services."

Now look through the list of services for any one that is Toshiba-related. When you find any, click the check-box to disable it.

Click OK. Reboot the computer.
