ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m):
And who told you that a computer with a failing RAM cannot boot? Note: Failing, not failed.

He started by saying the problem began since he upgraded the RAM. And so it's normal to start troubleshooting from that point. Ok?

A defective RAM can cause a whole lot of issues, including crashes and random freezes.

sameolg616:
I AV been following ur thread since and really u both are looking into the wrong places..
Instead,u shd hit the msconfig command to view the startup programs and services.moreso, find a registry cleaner to remove invalid entries from the registry...
These are the main causes for ur problems else ur hard drive is weak and probably having defective sectors..ur ram can never be the cause,if it was,it wldnt boot up
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 9:03pm On Mar 07, 2016
And did the poster tell you he couldn't do it? Besides, didn't you see where I advised him to consult an engineer?

You are saying this because you left him your number? I'm just trying to help as much as I can. Nobody is stopping him from calling you. So what's your problem?

sameolg616:
Excuse me bro,i tink it's wrong or too much to ask the poster to remove his ram..Its quite a technical tin todo and from his response,it's obvious he lacks the technical know-how to do such..I wld suggest u recommend a hardware expert to perform such procedure..this has nothing todo wit diy as some pple wld argue here
ComputersRe: Help My PC Has Been Diagnosing Since by shawlxAk(m): 7:58pm On Mar 07, 2016
You need to boot the computer from a Windows installation CD/DVD and choose Repair Your Computer. You can start by performing a startup repair. If that doesn't work, try System Restore.

ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 5:00pm On Mar 07, 2016
It's either a defective charger or the battery is bad.

Test with another charger, or test with a different battery.

samask64:
pls help me ooooo my dell laptop is not charging it will only show plunged but not charging and is the same charger am using for it before pls help me on what to do
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 4:56pm On Mar 07, 2016
It's usually underneath the motherboard. Look for an access cover on the bottom of the laptop.

If it's not there, then you may want to consult an engineer near you.

No, it cannot possibly be a software issue. It's a hardware issue.

Tolulopy:
pls I'm sorry o, where can I find the RAM.......nd some said they think the fault lies wf the OS(Windows 7)
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m):
Then remove the RAM module and reinstall it. If the problem persists, replace the RAM module.

Edit: By replace I meant, bring back the old RAM module and test the system.

Psalm351:
Thanks so much for your time. But I have tried doing that.
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 3:34pm On Mar 07, 2016
It could be a poorly seated or defective RAM.

But do the following first.

Boot into Safe Mode, leave it there for a while and see if the same thing happens.

Psalm351:
Yes. It was only the RAM upgrade that I did. Nothing else. And yes, the system hangs randomly. Even when performing simple task. It can even hang on its own while on standby. The 2GB RAM module is single.
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 2:34pm On Mar 07, 2016
Was the RAM upgrade the only thing that you did? No new software installations or upgrades?

Does the system hang randomly? Or only when you perform certain tasks, e.g web browsing?

Is it a single 2GB RAM module? Or 2 pieces of 1GB RAM module?

Psalm351:
Please, help me. I use HP mini notebook. Recently, I upgraded its RAM from 1GB to 2GB. Since then, it's been slow. Sometimes, it hangs for few minutes before it starts working again. Is it as a result of the 2G RAM or something else? Thanks. God bless you as you reply.
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m):
-- Test the system with only the battery installed. Test again with only the AC adapter connected.

Same problem? Do the following.

1. Try a hard reset.

2. Try reseating the RAM (if there is more than one, test with one RAM module installed at a time). Try testing with another working RAM module too.

3. If the problem persists, it's most likely an internal power issue. Consult an engineer near you.

Tolulopy:
No o

ComputersRe: Quickly Retrieve Documents From A Windows Computer Having A Corrupted Os by shawlxAk(op): 9:47pm On Mar 05, 2016
Thank you.

Removing the hard disk is a longer process, especially with laptops that would require one to literally tear down everything to get to the hard disk.

What if an external HDD enclosure is not at your disposal? What if no other computer is available?

My post describes a more efficient method, in an emergency.

ErasmusCOMP:
Very informative.
Though I would simply remove the hard disk drive from the faulty computer, slide it into my external hard disk drive casing and connect it to my other computer (slaving). Then will I copy everything 'copyable' into a flash drive.

The cost varies. It's best you consult one or more engineers near you.

Your budget is a bit too low for a standard laptop. My article in the following link will give you more insight with regard to buying a good laptop.

ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 9:26am On Mar 05, 2016
You seem to have lost your password then. You need to get a Windows installation device, boot your PC from it, and try to refresh your PC from it.

If it doesn't work, you may need to backup your personal files and reset your PC.

rosalieene:
no other account on d system. when I tried refreshing, it requested for password. Each time I restart it, d OS doesn't load. "ur PC ran into a problem aand needs to restart. we are just collecting some error info and then we will restart for you" after a while, it ll say automatic repair. "your PC did not start correctly, press restart which may sometimes fix the problem or press advanced options to try other options to fix your pc''
I can't even access the on-screen keyboard.
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 3:35pm On Mar 04, 2016
It's not accepting your password even with the on-screen keyboard?

Are there any other accounts on the system? If yes, are you able to log on using an alternate account?

Did you perform a PC Refresh as I mentioned earlier?

rosalieene:
its still not working. I mean its still saying password incorrect
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 1:59pm On Mar 04, 2016
You said you performed a system restore earlier. Was it successful?

Click Advanced Options > Troubleshoot and choose to refresh your PC.

rosalieene:
now, its having issue with booting. what do I do
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 1:34pm On Mar 04, 2016
Try to re-enter your password using the on-screen keyboard.

rosalieene:
pls I have a problem that needs immediate attention. I tried doing system restore because most of my files and documents aren't opening. afterwards my system restarted and I tried to login my password but it didn't open. I don't know what to do again. ComputersRe: Help!!!my Laptop Can't Power On. by shawlxAk(m): 1:31pm On Mar 04, 2016
Go to any computer store near you. Or borrow from a friend. As a last resort, consult an Engineer near you. It's an easy fix though.

where can i get that windows installation device... And about how much wil it cost?... I av tried others but no show
ComputersRe: Help!!!my Laptop Can't Power On. by shawlxAk(m): 1:16pm On Mar 04, 2016
You would need to boot the system from a Windows installation device and click Repair Your Computer. You can use Start-up Repair, System Restore or Refresh Your PC. Try them one after the other.

Get a different Engineer to take a look at it. The said module could be bad again or some wires are broken.

Get your keyboard replaced.

ayoniakins:
Thank God I found this page.

please my PC just developed a problem. The brightness goes dim when i switch it on. And it will be like that for a long time. But when i look closely, it was working....but no light. Gave someone who said he changed the module but stopped for a while and now it has started again.

Secondly, some of the keys on the keyboard aren't working. First it was the up arrow, now it's the left and right arrow and the space bar.

Please any solution to this?
Thanks
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m): 11:21am On Mar 04, 2016
You may need to get the trackpad replaced. In the meantime, you can use a mouse.

Next time, when something like that happens and the laptop is powered on, immediately power it off, disconnect the charger and remove the battery.

If the laptop is not powered on, do not be tempted to immediately turn on the laptop to verify that it's working.

Just disconnect everything immediately and place the laptop upside down so as to prevent the liquid from getting further into the circuitry. Get a clean piece of cloth and clean the spilled liquid.

Leave the laptop to dry for as long as possible before trying to test it (maybe a day or two).

Then, you may want to take it apart and do some more cleaning.

My little brother happened to spill oily-water (he wouldn't confess whatever he spilled anyways) on the track pad of my laptop. At first it didn't seem to be affected, but since yesterday the track pad has ceased to work ; the cursor hovers well but clicking does not respond. What do I do please?

ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by shawlxAk(m):
The solution is to get Windows activated.

No, your system will not experience any damage. However, certain functionality will be disabled. For example, your desktop settings will be discarded each time the computer is rebooted or powered off.

You will always be prompted to activate. You may also not be able to receive Windows updates.

If your computer came with Windows 8 pre-installed, then simply connect to the internet and it will be activated automatically.

Else, follow the guide below to activate manually.

Log on to your computer with an account having administrative privileges > Connect to the internet > Press the Windows key > Type: PC settings > Press enter when presented with a matching result > In PC settings, click Activate Windows > Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the process.

ComputersQuickly Retrieve Documents From A Windows Computer Having A Corrupted Os by shawlxAk(op):
I was once in a situation where I was unable to log in to a Windows computer as a result of a corrupted operating system. There wasn't enough time to troubleshoot/fix the problem because I had to leave for an appointment ASAP.

Nonetheless, there were some important documents on the computer that I needed to take along with me. Thankfully, I was able to quickly retrieve the files that I needed in less than 3 minutes.

If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, here's how you can quickly gain access to important documents.

You would need either a Windows installation CD/DVD or a Linux-based LiveCD. You would also need an external storage device such as a USB flash drive for the purpose of copying your documents.

In this post, I will focus on using a Windows installation CD/DVD.

Step 1 – Get a Windows installation CD/DVD that is compatible with the version of Windows that is installed on your computer.

Step 2 – Connect the flash drive to the computer and boot the system from the Windows installation CD/DVD.

Step 3 – Choose your language and keyboard settings as appropriate and click Next.

Step 4 – In the lower left area, click Repair Your Computer.

Note:

If using a Windows 7 installation CD/DVD, you may be prompted to select an operating system to repair. Choose as appropriate and click next to proceed. Then, on the System Recovery Options page, click Command Prompt.

If using a Windows 8 or Windows 10 installation CD/DVD, click Troubleshoot on the Choose An Option page. Next, click Advanced Options and then Command Prompt.

Step 5 – Type notepad in the command prompt and press enter.

Step 6 – In notepad, click the File menu and choose Open. Click the Computer icon on the left.

Step 7 – On the right-hand side, double-click the disk drive on which your documents reside and navigate to the appropriate folder.

In this example, the documents are stored on the same disk that Windows is installed on. Hence, I double-clicked the D: drive. Next, I opened the Users folder and navigated to the appropriate home directory of the user account under which the documents are stored.

You may change the Files Of Type option to All Files.

Now you can find a document that you need, right-click on it, select Send To and choose a removable device to copy it.

ComputersRe: Why Is My Computer Hanging Often..pls Help by shawlxAk(m): 5:50pm On Mar 01, 2016
Try upgrading the physical RAM.

inikamoze:
Thanks all for your contribution. Initially the laptop was a Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit when It started having the hanging and slow response issues, I formatted and installed a fresh OS; Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, (I googled it before upgrading to the 64bit and found it would still run on fine if I upgraded to 64bit.) But why its still having same issues even on a fresh install(I backed up my files on an external HDD and did a Custom Installation).
Yeah the processor fan is still working. Could it be the low memory?
ComputersRe: Pls Help O, My ATM Card Palava. by shawlxAk(m): 12:52pm On Feb 29, 2016
Examine the chip on the card for physical damage.

Gently wipe the surface of the chip with a clean and dry piece of cloth.

difakozigi:
Today was a very long day for me, I did some washings, I freestyled and I planned to go to the studio tomorrow morning. I already got the cash I need for recording, what I needed was my t.fare.
So I sped off to a bank that was about 20km from me(nearest to me). I waited patiently in the queue since there were like three persons before me to use the machine. The first man was busy making withdrawals in 20k batches, I was already fuming behind the other two customers. For God know why, he hit his maximum recharge for the day and he almost spat on the innocent machine with annoyance. The next man to him made advances for the machine, and guess what? he started what the last man did( 20k batches withdrawal). His own was not that bad as he only withdrew for two batches. Then came the man in front of me, that dude was broke! He withdrew just 5k or there about and disappointed my expectations on him. He gallantly left the machine for a nearby keke napep. And at last it was my turn, I forgot to tell u guys that there was a girl behind me that I was trying to impress, as I made advances for the machine too, I was contemplating on withdrawing 20-something-k. I just don't know why something like that came to my mind as I was not even having up to that in my acct. It was crazy.
And now to the real story: As I got to the machine and inserted my card, I got a message that read "your card can't be read, pls reinsert". Was surprised, I reinserted again and the same messaged popped up. I tried for the third time, it was still the same. I had to stop trying cos I can't try something for three consecutive time in the same manner and expect a different result, so I spearheaded for another bank. The story didn't change.
Pls nairalanders, don't be mad about the long story, that's what happen when I'm pissssssd off like I am now, I need you guys to help tell me how I can fix this card without going to the bank. I'm afraid the bank will ask me to get a new card which I can't afford now, we all know the condition of the country's economy.
The card is for Access bank. The banks I used it on was wema bank and first city monument bank(fcmb).
Pls I plead with the mods to take this piece FP. I really need to record that song tomorrow.

Most electronic products are made by contract manufacturers who run factories in China. Then, the companies simply put their name and logo on it.

Worry less about where it is made. Just buy from a reputable store.
