Hello guys (everyone and guru in the house), my friend introduced me to this thread I followed some transcript and I learn some things

I had my interview 6:30am this morning (September 13), after going through the usual checking and stuffs with biometrics. It was time for interview. I was interview by a woman in window 6 she fresh but doesn't look like she's in her early 20s (that no concern me though)

There's a guy in my front, I heard their conversation it was fine, their interview was 5-7 minutes (wasn't sure but even tey unlike others) but she denied him. I was the next and the second to be interviewed by the woman. There's a guy in Window 7 with headphone with the mic up (maybe e dey listen to music ah no know), he was just denying people going for masters anyhow, his interview with each applicant didn't take up to 1 min)

Meanwhile it was late when I discovered the guy that helped me with the stuff did stupid mistake and he didn't ask me, he just put what he liked. I graduated November 2017 but this guy put April and my notification of result indicates November. I called him to give me login details several times but he never did and won't change it, they guy did the stuff just anyhow. So didn't know what to do so I planned if they asked me when I graduated I'll just say 2017

My transcript goes thus:
Me: Good morning, how are you this morning
VO: Good morning (Madam no dey smile)
*scanned my barcode*
VO: Where are you going to in the US?
Me: Stanton University in California
VO: What are you going for?
Me: To further my education in Master of Business Administration and Management
VO: why did you choose this school?
Me: It's one of the best business administration school in California, they only have BA for both their Masters and Bachelor's degree so...
*VO cuts in*
Vo: so you mean to tell me you chose the school because they offer the program you want?
Me: No, actually they have an education delivery system of democratic process in which their students comes first and they have a diverse multi ethinics and multi cultural population which is good for business as I'll be able to meet people from...
*VO cuts in* (dunno weytin she dey think that time, she then looked at me)
Me: So you mean you want this school because they are democratic? (she said it with one kind of curiosity funny face or she was annoyed, I wasn't sure)
*For my mind I know I don jonz somehow, is this woman a republican or something, madam ah no dey talk politics na*
Me: No wait, I can explain better
*Vo cuts in*
VO: That doesn't really matters...(don forget weytin she talk after that but it's something like make we free the matter)
VO: When did you graduate?
Me: 2017
VO: What field?
Me: Statistics
Vo: When did you finish your NYSC?
Me: I haven't done NYSC yet because I want to further and by the time I'm done, I'll be coming back to Nigeria for the service and since I'll be taking over my dad's business, he's company would be my PPA after 3 weeks camping...
*VO cuts in*
VO: From the date you graduated you should be done with your service by now or still serving...
(I didn't know maybe I should tell her I graduated November, 'cause if it's November it's very feasible 'cause some of my mates are yet to be mobilize by now, so I Sha no talk mama Sha press computer for a while and issue me blue paper e pain me but I just commot Sha)

So I think it's that NYSC thing that turned her off, close to 20 people did before me (people from other queues included) and none was given except one old woman going for visiting, no Masters students was given but that doesn't matter cos I didn't see that could be the reason why I was denied.

I'm thinking of reapplying but I no get interest again for now so I want to defer my admission till another quarter.
My question is; is there anything wrong with my answer? And when reapplying, can I put the correct date that I graduated which is November 2017 or I should make it April ('cause my notifications of results stated I finished exams (graduated) November 2017 and it was issued March 2018, cos school had issue then so they went on strike that's why it wait till March)

Help me out on this.
First, In my opinion, the fact that you have not attended NYSC was not the deciding factor in your case. Some people have gotten visas on this thread for Msc without doing NYSC. The VO had already made up his/her mind to deny you before the interview got to that NYSC point. And don't try to change your graduation date, it might lead to "misrepresentation of information" as they already have the initial date your agent entered for you.

Secondly, "your why this school is so weak. The VO even made it known to you by cutting you off twice, before ending the interview with "it doesn't matter. The rest question was just for documentation sake. While practising, did Your response to "why this school even" sound like a good reason to your ear that would make a student choose the school over more than 2000 schools in the US??
You need to be specific on this. Talk about the laboratory Instruments available to you in this school, equipments, interactive communication sessions, current trend in mathematical and statistical analysis that you will utilize in this school and that you won't easily access in other schools. Please don't go and use this my examples o, try and get something peculiar to MBA and talk about it.

I hope I made some sense.

Temisan2015:
Good morning Pals,

I have went for my interview in last month at Lagos Embassy and i was delayed.

it was disappointing show for me and the tension was craxy mehn.

I aint gonna be apportion blame but ensure you already have your documents before you go so you dont panic.

My delayed transcript

Me: Good morning
VO: Where are you going to in the US
Me: Minnesota
VO: Where course
Me: Engineering management
VO: What would this course do for you
Me: It would help me get promotion in my office and i began to stutter, voice shaking and all
VO: Do you work?
Me: Yes
VO: Where do you work?
Me: ......
VO: What is your role there?
Me: Am the HOD of the safety department and i cant remeber the next rubbish i said
the VO was like eh

Then the famous pink paper bla bla.

I just calm down and collected the paper and saw myself out

Now i have defied my admission, for spring and my i20 is ready for pick up

I need help with getting to pay eshipglobal for the shipment.

Somebody please help, i want to re-fire and be prepared better before i go again this time

Thanks in advance
Let me try to do this
First try to talk with more specifics

where are you going to in the US?
You are going to XYZ University in ABC, Minnesota. Just saying Minnesota does not cut it for me o. I mean the VO already had the information, because she has your i20 and your DS-160 you filled, so they have a reason for asking you this question

Secondly, your response to "What will this course do for you" is too weak. How will this course help you to get promoted in your workplace?? Obviously it's because of 'xyz' knowledge and 'abc' skills that you will be getting from the program. It's this 'xyz' knowledge and 'abc' skills that the VO wants to hear

Thirdly, to conquer stuttering, u need more practice. Practice before a mirror, get someone also going for interview and both of you can practice via watsapp call. Practice till your response becomes part of you.

"Finally, "What is your role at work"? You are the HOD is not a job function. And you can't remember what the rest rubbish you said?? These VOs are people that think too o, and they can smell lies too. The VO probably wanted to hear your job description. Do you climb poles at work, do you clean toilets?. These are what the VO was waiting to hear.

Your case is an open and close book. Your errors are glaring. You need to work on this and more embassy interview questions before you go near the embassy again
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by sheke01: 3:31am On Sep 14, 2018

So many faults in your transcript o

First why this school: Say something academically peculiar to this school that you won't get in another school. You need to be specific on this. Talk about the laboratory Instruments available to you in this school etc.
This is not the time to talk about affordability, speed of response, non automated human relations, cool environment and the likes

Error 2: Never apply to a program that can be done online in the same school. it's a big turn off

Error 3: How did you forget an important embassy interview document.

We don't know how low is your tuition. It must have been so low for the VO to remark about it. And don't tell a VO that is complaining about how low your tuition is, that the low tuition is affordable.

In my opinion, change your school, apply to a program that can only be done on campus, don't forget your documents and work on "why did you choose this school" and maybe "why this program".

N/B: If you did not write GRE, now might be the best time to do so

My travel and POE experience
I left Abuja for US on at 22:15 saturday 11th August. Since school resumes 13th August I had to leave a week after getting approved. We had a 12 hour layover in Frankfurt before jetting off to JFK New York.
Aside the time spent on the queue, I did not spend up to 2 minutes with the border control officer. Only my i20 was requested and only question asked was that I was going for studies which I answered in the affirmative.
My next flight to Cleveland was from LaGuardia airport. I stood outside JFK enjoying free wifi and communicating with family back home. I had prior information that New York taxis were really expensive and so I didn't try catching one. Someone had told me to use the metro. So as I stood by the corner chatting with peeps and enjoying the scenario of NYC at night, a man dressed like a security personnel with a walkie talkie walked up to me and asked me if I was waiting for someone, where I was going and how I planned to get there. I told him my plans of using the metro and he said I should follow him and he would direct me to the spot where I would catch the metro and that the next metro was the last for the night and I had to act fast so that I can get on it else I would miss my flight. So he crossed the road and I followed him, and he pointed to a spot and said that's where they wait for metro.
I stood there for a while and began to feel skeptical. The spot looked isolated and more of a car park than a metro pick up spot. Within a few minutes a luxury car pulled up and the driver shouted "Metro for LaGuardia airport". My spirit no carry am at all. I told him no that I'll just wait for my friend. He tried persuading me and I suddenly recognised him as the guy that directed me to that spot in the first place. He had hurriedly changed to a Polo Shirt. I left him, began going back to JFK, i then saw some guys at a corner laughing. I then realised that i almost got scammed. I followed some Chinese people and took an elevator up to an air-train station where I took a free train to Jamaica station. From there I paid $8.50 for a metro card that I used to get to Roosevelt Avenue sub way station, from there I used the same metro card to get on a bus to LaGuardia airport.
Am finally at Cleveland and I called a friend IN Oaklahoma and he told me how he fell for that same scam in January and how the driver told him he had a faulty meter and charged $400 to that same LaGuardia airport which he later begged and paid $110.
The hustle is real everywhere. Shine your eyes. I hope someone learns from my experience and don't fall for this bunch of scammers

Sheke01: My mum

VO: What does she do?
Sheke01: She is a BIG business woman. She is a major distributor of Dangote products.

VO: Do you have her statement of account?
Sheke01: Yes, I have 2 different account statements.....Then I passed them to her

She looked at the one on top for a while. She began to type for a period. Then she said

VO: What's your mum's name?
Sheke01: I told her

She began to type again. Even though the balance on the statement exceeds the required amount on my i20, I had to inform her again that there's a second statement behind that one o. She mumbled that she was not interested in it. I said no problem. After typing for a long while, she said

VO: I can't see your Sevis fee payment
Sheke01: I passed my Sevis fee confirmation along with my passport and i20. It's there with you
VO: I know but it's not coming up on the system

I decided to shut up at this point o. Since she is talking about sevis, she want to approve me o. Let me not use my mouth and talk rubbish at this point o.

She typed and typed and I waited. Next thing I heard was, " I will be approving your visa, pick it up at Isolo in 3 working days time. I just freezed. I couldn't even hide my white paper in my envelope and those military women outside hustled money from me which I happily gave them.

And that was how my dream became a reality.

N/B: It was God all the way. Though I played my own part but God favored me today. I prayed well and i was singing my "oh come to the throne of Grace" on the line today. Am successfully switching to Information systems from Mechanical Engineering without having to answer the dreaded "Why are you switching" question. I wore an Akpuoche like native for my interview today after being delayed wearing a suit. Don't let anybody deter you from achieving your dream. If I can do this, you can too

Dear ****

You are on the list for consideration in the next round of funding.

Best regards,

Prof. Scott

Is it possible to defer my admission till funding would be available?

Time2smile, bigfrancis21, Quoran, sheke01
I honestly don't know about mathematics department and their funding policies. Your idea could work for you, also you might ask for admission deferral and this might make them to see you as being "not serious" and hence prompt them to take you off the pool of funding aspirants. Some schools have this "offer funding/GA after one semester mentality"
The program (Computer Information systems ) i got admitted into is housed under the school of business and they do more of scholarships than funding, so I have quite a limited knowledge about how their funding works. Hopefully BigFrancis21 might come bail you out on this one.

Mehn the place was hell. I contracted chicken pox in my JSS1, then Scabies, then usual malaria, fever, but I survived them all. Had lot of nicknames, each year new nickname lolz.
Sundays to Thursdays were walk in the park but Fridays and Saturdays were days of hell. Manual labours and inspections spoilt our Fridays and Saturdays.
Everything changed when we owned the school in SS2 third term. We became the bullies and were in power. lolz. Life is really turn by turn o

Hey friend, I perused through all your comments and found out that you were once a prospective CSU student. What are the possibilities that I can still meet up for fall this year? How many weeks did it take them to admit you and the weeks your i20 arrived Nigeria? I haven't heard from them though, and June us around the corner. Pls I will need your Swift response as regards this.
Relax, u can definitely meet up for fall. I will be using my Cleveland state University admission for my embassy interview soon though am going for masters. My masters admission took about 8 weeks, I paid application fee January 9th and got the admission March 1st.
Here's what you have to do to speed up your process.
1. You obviously can't do anything about the wait period. The school said admission takes like 4-6 weeks from when your application was completed. Have you gotten a mail from them stating that your application have been completed. If no, you need to mail them and find out what is pending in your application
2. Get your financial documents ready. Immediately you are given admission you will be required to scan and upload your financial documents in order for them to prepare your i20. If you have them handy, u will be doing yourself a favour. Cleveland state university took 4 working days to prepare my i20.
3. Cleveland state university uses eshipglobal to ship i20. You will be charged $90.44, bank charges not included and this can only be paid outside Nigeria by wire transfer or PayPal. I will advise you start talking with Walspring and other gurus in the US so that they will help you make this payment as quickly as your i20 is ready.
4. Cleveland state university will send you some of the important details on your i20 to your mail. You can use this details to pay embassy fee, first DS160 form, pay Sevis fee and book appointment at the embassy while you wait to receive your i20. eshipglobal uses UPS, DHL and FedEx. There is little or no risk of your i20 getting lost except you deliberately give them wrong phone number and delivery details. You will also be given tracking number that you can use to track it. You will receive your i20
within 5 working days from when eshipglobal picks it up from the school
5. Begin now to prepare for embassy interview as you might need to scale it at first trial.

I hope this helps you calm down a little.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Pwc Nigeria Graduate Recruitment 2018 by sheke01:
I didn't want to post this because of personal reasons but on a second thought I think I owe it to posterity to do this because I gained a lot from 2016, 2017 threads and other nairaland threads that I've been following.
I had my pwc interview on friday but before I go into details let me talk about my experience so far. For OPQ, consistency is all they want. Even if u are choosing all the "negative" traits, just be consistent with them. Or better still visit 2017 thread from page 50-65, LaRochelle and her gang laid down some pretty nice traits they were consistent with. You can stick to those traits and be consistent with them.
Back to my interview, my team's topic was Tourism and it's importance to Nigerian economy. For the other team that did on the same day, their topic was Child labor and ways to eradicate it. It's best if your team can choose it's presenter, time keeper, coordinator etc before you guys enter the room as this will save time for your team and everyone should try and contribute as the panelists will be seated on the same table with you guys and will be writing something (scoring you guys) as you people are deliberating on the topic. Contributions is more important than being time keeper or coordinator.
My one on one interview proper: I was really drilled. No amount of preparation would have prepared me enough for what I went through on friday. I spent closed to an hour and I was asked more than 20 questions. Being truthful is the way forward or if u can construct your response beforehand, good for you. But one thing I learnt from the interview is that you can not prepare enough and you can't plan for every possible situation based questions.
The questions I was asked is as follows:
If given a 2nd chance at the group presentation what will I do differently
Tell us about yourself
Tell us about a time you showcased a skill i mentioned in the "tell us about yourself response"
What do you know about pwc
What do you know about pwc Nigeria
Tell us about a time you showcased your communication skills
How do you stay updated with current news
Tell us about a time you had a conflict with people in my previous place of work
Don't I think I took the conflict too far?
Tell us about about time you learnt something about a new environment
Tell us about a time you interacted with people outside your immediate circle (people you are not familiar with), and your contribution to the interaction
Tell us a time you convinced someone to accept my own idea
Do I know what services pwc offer
Do I know what auditors do
What's your career goal
Do I think engineering has prepared me to be an auditor
Which department did you apply to
Why did you apply to audit
The department my favourite pwc partner works in (because I mentioned a partner as my favourite in one of our discussions)
Do u have a mentor, if yes what impact has he made to your career choice
Tell us about a recent financial news and it's effect on the economy
I was finally asked to ask them a question, which I did
There are still some that I cannot remember and only the first 6 questions are in the order that I was asked

N/B: Please go with your credentials if you can, because some of us were asked for them as they were having problems finding our credentials

The panelists were really nice. I was given a bottle of water and I drank more than half of it. I was even asked to go with the rest

In in all, do your best and hope for the best

This is exactly the mindset I criticized with my post. Saying you "disagree with the bolded" simply means you're saying having a creative arts/insurance background means you're sure to fail in the U.S if you don't change to Engineering, IT or Medicine. I will NEVER accept that. Changing to those things guarantee absolutely NOTHING! Again, not thinking outside the box is the reason people fail.

I'll simply remind you that at the time of VISA applications/interviews, everyone tells the VO they ONLY wanna go study and go back to their country. All the ideas about OPT/H1B visa etc plans after school (if we're strictly going by the book) ARE ILLEGAL. I'm sure you know that having/hiding an immigrant intent during a NON-IMMIGRANT visa application is illegal and that's already a reasonable ground for denial.

If you don't believe me, someone here should go for a visa interview and when asked why they chose the program/school, they should say: "because it's a STEM program, after graduation, good companies will hire me and I stand a better chance of getting H1B visa".

My point: people who sit on the moral high ground with the same IMMIGRANT INTENT, should not come here discouraging a section of people who wouldn't do things their way and encouraging others. There are other ways to become an immigrant and have a life in the U.S., it's not just for programmers/nurses/engineers and that's why I always say leave people to think outside the box and have a plan with their life.

Let's be consistent! If we wanna advise people to come here to study, let's do JUST that! Encourage them to study and go back to where they're coming from. If we wanna start advising people on how to achieve their American dreams (whatever the dreams are), let's level the playing field.

The American dream is NOT only for students on scholarship, first class graduates, engineering/IT/Medical majors. Anyone in life can be successful in anything they set their hearts on with good planning and a bit of luck.
I beg to disagree with some of your points. First at bolded, it is not illegal to know that there is a loophole in the law that you can utilize to your advantage. It is not even illegal to use a loophole in the law to your advantage. Lawyers do this everytime. The US law created the loophole by allowing Visa holders to change from F1B to H1B so people utilizing it or knowing they can utilize it during visa interview cannot be illegal

Nobody is saying people outside Engineering, sciences or IT won't succeed in the states but they are saying it MIGHT be harder because of the lack of OPT/H1B for those paths

I don't think they are discouraging anybody from choosing his/her path. All they are doing is advising people to try to follow a path where they can utilize the aforementioned loophole. We all know that there are other ways to achieve the American dream beside H1B but this is a US (STUDENT) visa enquiry thread, you don't want them mentioning the outside the box options you have in mind here.

Nigeria already have a black international reputation, you don't want someone in trump government to have a copy of such posts and use it to blacklist us further.

Again, some outside the box options of achieving the American dream are not illegal, they are among the many loopholes in the system, but they MIGHT be harder than H1B

What do i even know. I never comot naija before grin

Good day everyone ,I ve been following this thread silently for a very long time and I have learnt alot...but to my issue...im almost through with my youth service but I graduated with 2.78 G.P in child development and family studies .I have decided to further my education (MSC) in US or CANADA...these are my questions...
1.should I sit for GRE and TOEFL or GRE alone.
2.is it neccessary for me to send my transcript to WES.
3.what are my chances of being granted VISA
4.which one will be easier in terms of finances and being granted visa... USA or CANADA??
I will appreciate your response ...thank you in anticipation.
Pls and experienced people in the house .help a brother...please reply
If you have really been silently following this thread for a very long time as you claimed, then you should know the answers to your question. But let me give you the benefit of doubts,

1. Writing GRE and TOEFL, GRE alone or TOEFL alone depends on you (your pocket size, your ego), your desired course of study and your desired school's requirement. School A might require GRE and TOEFL for you to study course X, while school B might require GRE alone for you to study the same course X and school C might require neither GRE nor TOEFL and they would still give you admission to study course X.

2. My first answer still covers your question about WES. for example I evaluated my transcript with WES and non of the 4 schools I applied to requested for it. Arizona state University even rejected it outrightly saying they only recognise official transcript from issuing institution.

3. As the biggest madam in the house (Lagosismyhome) would always say and I quote, "nobody can predict chances". You would only know if you give it a shot.

4. I don't know about your 4th question o, maybe other gurus can help out here

Thank you. Please, how much did WES charge you and which institution did you apply to?
$212. I applied to Arizona state uni, university of North Carolina at charlotte, Cleveland state uni and UTEP. all did not request for WES and they accelted unofficial transcript for admission except Arizona state uni requested for official transcript before evaluating my application

I've been a silent reader of this great thread. May the Almighty God bless you all for your various contributions.
I like reading this thread everyday and I notice there is a dearth of visa transcript recently. wetin come be d cause? na d visa transcript I dey enjoy pass.
Resumption dates is very far away. like i've read here on numerous occasion Visa interview can only be done 3months to ur resumption date and the next major resumption semester is fall semester that is more than 6 months away, hence no visa interview for now resulting in no visa transcript

Good day everyone, I began an admission process at St Cloud State University, Minesota in 2016 for the Fall of 2017. I wanted to study Strategic Communications and GRE is not required. Having uploaded every other documents, I was required to send my transcript via WES which will cost about $206. I got discouraged because I felt the procedure was awkward coupled with lack of funds as at then. I sought advice from friends in the US and they told me to abandon the process and look for schools that won't require WES.
I found one and I wrote my GRE last December but, I had a low score (273). Now, I am thinking of revisiting my admission process at St Cloud State and I need an advice from someone with a similar experience on how to go about the WES and how long it will take for the transcript to be processed etc. Please, address my case.
How long depends on your school and how seriously you follow them up. I started my WES evaluation last September. My school delayed and sent my transcript in October and WES sent it back to them for verification that same month. My school then went cold on the matter as Non academic staff went from one strike to another which is still ongoing. I had already given up on the whole stuff and applied to schools that did not request for WES evaluation only for WES to send me a mail yesterday that they have received the necessary documents needed and my evaluation would be completed by friday.
I dull shai, so ur case could be a whole lot faster is you follow up your school bumper to bumper

BigFrancis21, ObenJoshua, emmy994, Kapitain, Imperiouxx malory84, Christian129, Holudarey01 and other UTEP gurus in the house. please i submitted and paid my application fee to UTEP but I woke up to a mail this morning from them about my application being incomplete. I logged into my account and saw this in the picture.
I requested my official GRE score to be sent to them and ETS have confirmed that it was sent to them since 13th of December. I have sent a mail to them about it but I don't know what the "other" means.
Do I have to send official transcript before they give admission?
