Programming › Re: What Hindered/stopped You From Going To A Coding School Or Bootcamp? by Sheriman(m):
After having a good Laptop of 8 GB RAM above, some extra cash for data and food your journey to learning programming language has just getting started
Well, for me I think it is due to some financial constraint and time to sacrifice in the cause of learning it even learning programming on your own is huge because you have to sacrifice your time learning it which may hindered your normal work if you're already working. Learning programming involve a lot of time, dedication and hard work before you can become an expert in it.
You watch tutorials you read tutorial PDFs on different coding topics you spend money on data, sitting for hours writing codes not to talk when you run into bugs or issues sometimes you're tired and got frustrated and wanted to abandoned learning coding. All these things could take you 6 months or a year or more before you can begin fully understand how coding works.
Learning any programing language is not for the lazy guys or those who are in a hurry to know things in a rapid short period of time. You have to always practice practice practice practice practice practice and practice before you can become a good programmer.
There are still some free learning materials on some programming languages though not all. I think my own advice is to go for any language that has big community of users this will make it easier to get free learning materials online.
For example developer.andriod.com is a bootcamp for beginners who wants to learn Kotlin. Kotlin is fully supported by Google. Even Jetbrains also provided their own free learning materials for beginners who wants to learn Kotlin. There are many free learning materials online for learning Kotlin Basics as a beginner. There are many websites you can visit to learn Kotlin for free.. videos tutorial are on YouTube to download as well. You don't have to really spend so much on buying all these expensive courses. If someone know what he is doing you can be fine with all the free learning materials depending on which programming language you are learning because not all languages have free learning materials even free online tutorials.

This post is just for survey purposes:-

We're lunching our online/e-learning platform soon to help people learn certain courses for free or very cheap since our unlearned Nigerian teens and youth are growing (based on survey).

Please we will appreciate if you give us an advice on what COURSE do people intend to enroll on?

Note:- if you can publish a course you're good at for free to help kindly drop your WhatsApp number so we talk better.

Waiting for your advice:-
You can create a course teaching some programming languages or teaching how to use 3D software to make movies but you will also need a YouTube channel for these things

So I'm not actually proud of what I'm doing at the moment but I just have to survive. Why I'm not posting this with my main account.

I self-learn, from Java to Kotlin and now focused on Android Mobile Dev. One thing I've learned from the Tech world is find a problem and provide a solution.

It's actually not a legal app, as it's help this "yahoo boys" make fake CashApp payment screenshot. Like I said I'm not proud of it, but I found a problem and thought of tapping in.

Being on it since November. App should be dropping this week
Why can't you create a legal App?

If you run into bugs in kotlin with large code base how do you handle it? Do you have such community with great experience to help you? If you have such community, they are majorly experienced Java devs who migrated to kotlin using the knowledge of Java.

Jetbrain, creator of kotlin don't even joke with Java and Python, yet they have kotlin. Remember Java is evolving. Type inference you have in kotlin is now in Java, many features coming in java 17 that will wow many devs. Talk of boilerplates code, java now have Lombok that handles that. Less experience dev talk ill of java.

See language as a tool.
Well my fellow developer, I wouldn't further go into any argument with you but I want you to know that Kotlin is growing massively and the support is beautifully huge!!

What if you are to work on legacy code? Twitter, telegram, zoom, signal, Amazon apps etc are still maintaining their android code base in java. I am not against kotlin in fact, it is a language I like but Java still remain my easy to go if I run into bugs.
You got it wrong here bro!!! You said Java is easy to go if you run into bugs while Kotlin has made it easier to reduce running into bugs especially it null safety writing boilerplate lesser code unlike Java that is too verbose which tends to make developer run into bugs no matter his/her experience writing code.
In Kotlin you may write 5 codes of lines to print out while in Java it could be 30 codes of lines of the same thing.
This is what Kotlin has reduced and it shines here.

The first tutorial I saw on Kotlin, they wrote it there that I need to know the basics of Java before proceeding.
You don't really need it. You could start learning Kotlin Basics without knowing Java.
If you are serious about learning Kotlin I believe it is easy to understand for a person who is new to programming!

Dust your 4 GB Laptop, download Intelli J idea community edition install the SDK and go to andriod.developer.com to start learning Kotlin Basics.

Kotlin language that make Android IOS and Web Application developer more happier

The OP doesn't know any progmming language, starting with Java will give him a very solid foundation and he can learn any other language with ease, kotlin is just Java made easy but he will be losing alot of programing fundamentals starting with kotlin.

Note:- like you said, if I want to build an android app today, I will use kotlin.
Google is massively supporting Kotlin by providing developers especially beginners so many documentations to jumpstart your Android development.
Kotlin is also a multi platform language that can also be use to build an IOS, MacOS, TVOS application through Kotlin KMM and web Application through Ktor or Desktop Application through TornadoFX.
Recently, I think It's gaining more users and popular than Java
Knowing one language and build for many platforms. That is incredible!!

The print function is definitely in-built. Kotlin is beautiful though, compared to Java. From type inference to null handling which eliminates the NPE nemesis . Auto handling of getters and setters so you don't write all the boilerplate codes like in Java. Functions are kings here not classes grin

Also, the syntactic sugar. 5 lines of codes in Java might just be a line or two in Kotlin. So verbosity is greatly reduced. Sweetest of all, it is interoperable with Java. You can actually look under to see the Java bytecodes generated for every Kotlin code. Cool stuff cool
Thanks buddy for helping me.. Kotlin is the language that makes Android app developers happier..
Happy coding!!
Happy developing with Kotlin!!

Great resources. Don't dwell too much on the syntax. To develop a computational mind, you have to solve problems. Do as many exercises as possible and learn from them.

I use Java to build apps but now moving over to Kotlin as well since it is the new and preferred language for Android.
Please migrate to Kotlin. A language that makes developers happier
