I've lived in the UK majority of my life and know the nation works well because of taxes. No nation, unless purely communist, can be optimally efficient without taxes that must also be collected efficiently.

Britain has the National health Service scheme which is effectively free healthcare for Britons but it is maintained partly via national insurance contributions all British workers pay from their monthly salary.

Payment of tax is essential. I'd advise you stop being emotional to then rush to post when you can do seconds of research to note what expert and authoritative knowledge defines.

Tinubu is a genius and his drive to collect tax more efficiently is crucial because Nigeria's tax to GDP ratio is below the recommended level putting more pressure on government to fund literally everything whereas, due to no fault of PBAT, we have virtually an undiversified and mono-economy centred around crude oil earnings.

I dislike the Tinubu administration because it’s the worst to have hit Nigerians in all its existence.

It’s a known fact that this administration has thrown way more people into poverty than any before it and they’re unapologetic about it.

Never have I said taxation is bad, but if the government cannot account for the revenue it generates from sale of minerals and oil and even the taxes it’s collecting why would you come to tell citizens to pay more taxes before they get services?

The same citizens you have failed to improve their standard of living are who you expect to pay taxes? Same taxes that the corrupt politicians you support loot and spend at will on their lavish lifestyles?

The UK you mentioned, how many of their politicians (PM and all) buy luxury SUVS for themselves every 4 years? How many depend on the government to feed, clothe and even house them, pay their domestic staff and multitude of aides they employ?

If you want to compare to the UK, ensure your politicians start emulating not only the taxes paid in the UK but also how public servants work for their citizens over there.

Until then, I’ll stand by what I said, you cannot tax poverty. Improve the lives of the people and see if they won’t pay taxes.

Military rule had a total of about 29 years since the first Military coup of 1966.

Before then we had 6 years of Democracy. From 1999 till date makes it 27 years.

Democracy or civilian rule has had more years than military rule in Nigeria.

Total civilian rule in Nigeria comes to 37 years.

Military rule

1993-1999 16

Total 29 years.

A very large percentage of the infrastructure in Nigeria today were built under military rule. I can name a few

1. All four refineries
2. National theater in Lagos
3. Aso Villa
4. The National Assembly complex
5. MMA Airport
6. Third mainland bridge
7. Marina House Lagos
8. Almost all the bridges in Lagos were built by the military
9. FESTAC Lagos.

Under the military regime, we had a stronger currency and more stable economy than we have now. There was also some sort of decorum.

They see how we refer to ourselves online.

They saw how some government officials referred to their fellow countrymen as drug peddlers online.

We shouldn’t be taking offense when they start following such path.

No. The police can carry out investigations without the suspect.

After investigations and the suspect is found wanting, then he can be arrested and subsequently charged to court.

That’s the normal process for prosecution.

Are you aware the hospital existed as Amaku general hospital since 1956 before it was converted to a teaching hospital by Peter Obi in 2012? So, how is that claim the truth and that of Lagos a lie? He converted an existing hospital into a teaching hospital. He didn’t build it.

Obi on the other hand built a teaching hospital.

LASUTH was established by Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Lagos state in 2001. In addition, he built 5 general hospitals and 60 Primary healthcare centers.

This is a lie. LASUTh was converted to LASUTH in 2001 but was founded in 1955 by the old western region and upgraded to a general hospital in the 70s.

Tinubu converted what was already on ground to a teaching hospital and never established it.

Nobody is saying the IMF disclosure should be ignored. If public expenditure worth about 2% of GDP was not properly captured in recent budgets, Nigerians deserve a clear explanation. The books should be reconciled, the National Assembly should ask questions, and the Auditor-General should trace the figures.

But Atiku’s leap from “unreported expenditure” to “who stole 2% of GDP?” is dishonest politics. The IMF did not say 2% of Nigeria’s GDP was stolen. It said certain public spending was not properly recorded in official budget documents, creating a mismatch between the reported deficit and actual financing needs. That is a transparency and fiscal-reporting issue first, not automatic evidence of theft.

The PFIPC matter is also under investigation, with the Presidency claiming the agency was fictitious and that the alleged actor is facing prosecution. So why is Atiku already delivering a verdict before the facts are fully established?

Let the government explain. Let the books be opened. Let the agencies investigate. But opposition should not turn every accounting discrepancy into a robbery headline.

This is the difference between accountability and propaganda: accountability asks, “Where is the record?” Propaganda shouts, “Who stole it?” before the audit is done.

If the officers at the state house don't stand down, it will be difficult to effect an arrest.
One way or the other, the state house also enjoys the immunity.
Eg, the COS isn't having immunity, but if he is to be arrested today, except ordered by the president, no police officer will just invade the villa to arrest him despite not having immunity

The officers at the state house are still under the IGP.

The state governor doesn’t control the federal police.
