President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday promised that he would not run a government of intimidation if re-elected for the second term during the February 14 presidential election. He said he would run a government that would allow Nigerians to express their minds without any fear of intimidation. Jonathan made the promise during the Peoples Democratic Party presidential rally held at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, Kwara State. He said he would not preside over an administration under which Nigerians would be thinking they are in a zoo, where small animals would be afraid of the big ones. He said, “My message to you is that we will work with you to ensure that Nigerians are free. “We will ensure that you are not governed by intimidation. “You must be able to express yourself without fear of intimidation. That is why I signed the Freedom of Information Act. “We will not allow a situation where Nigerians will think they are in a zoo, where small animals are afraid of the big ones.” He said his administration was forming a government of young minds because of its conviction that Nigeria belonged to the youth. He said since the inception of his administration, he had shown commitment to repositioning the country. The President said his administration had done so much that he would not disappoint Nigerians. He mentioned some of the areas his administration had made giant leaps to include railway, health care, agriculture and the economy. Jonathan recalled that the nation’s economy had grown under his watch to become the largest in Africa. This, he said, was not achieved by chance. He said the feat was achieved by the commitment of the economic team that was working day and night. The President said world bodies such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Cable News Network and others had spoken in support of the visible growth in the nation’s economy. He wondered if Nigerians who criticised his government’s economic policies were more brilliant than the world bodies. President Jonathan warned such people to stop deceiving Nigerians. Earlier, Vice President Namadi Sambo had said that the present administration had transformed the nation’s economy to become the best in Africa. He said the administration transformed the power sector to a stage that the nation now generates over 4,000MW contrary to the about 2,000MW at the inception of their administration. He also noted that the Federal Government had reformed the transport sector by adding 20,000km of tarred roads to the nation’s road network. In the education sector, Sambo recalled that 12 federal universities were established by the administration, saying Jonathan deserved a second term. The National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, regretted that some people were trying to rubbish the President’s achievements for political gains. He said the President had performed better than all his predecessors. “The President has performed more than the others that have come before him. No Nigerian leader before him has done as much as he is doing,” Mu’azu said. Source:punchng.com |
I have learnt a lot from the Buhari certificate monomania. Since it happened, I started looking for all my certificates and school report cards. Infact I have safely kept the receipt for my jamb form, lecture notes, textbooks, photos even my secondary school P.T.A receipts and photocopy of my transfer form too, who knowns if anybody may request for it. If someone who schooled before independence can be asked to present his certificate, then who am I? If you are lucky enough to still have your secondary school uniform and sandal please, keep it because I still have mine right from my kindergarten days. Who knows any clueless person can ask for it? So currently, I'm searching for the sharpener and 2Anotebook I used in Pry 2 and d Slate board I used in Pry 1....... hope u've started looking for yours as well |

(Many are raped, beaten, and psychologically abused by members of the Nigerian mafia that controls the sex trade) A record number of women from Nigeria have arrived in Italy over the past year, and experts fear they are the victims of the growing illegal sex trade in Europe. More than 1,200 Nigerian women arrived in Italy by boat in 2014, compared to just 300 the previous year, according to a new report by the International Organisation for Migration. Prostitution Evidence gathered in Nigeria by Sister Eugenia Bonetti, who has been internationally recognised as a driving force in the fight against human trafficking, suggests one-in-three women in Benin City, Nigeria, have been approached by local traffickers who promise them non-existent jobs if they go to Europe. Many of the women who agree are then raped, beaten, and psychologically abused by members of the Nigerian mafia that control the trade. The use of systematic violence throughout the women's journey is aimed at preparing them for intensive exploitation once in Europe. A study conducted by the Italian NGO Be Free, which supports victims of trafficking and gender-based violence, found that in 2011 there were 30,000 Nigerian women who had been forced into prostitution. Many feel unable to leave under pressure from the debt incurred during their trip - which can run as high as 65,000 euros ($74,000), according to Francesca De Masi, who co-authored the Be Free report. "We documented the existence of brothels in Libya run by the Nigerian mafia where many of the women were initiated into the trade," said De Masi, who has also co-authored a book on the trafficking of Nigerian women to Italy. "They were forced to work in these places for even up to [a] year, often without any contraception. Some of the women told us they inserted wool from their mattresses inside their genitals, hoping it could in some way protect them." In early 2014, IOM launched a new anti-trafficking operation to help women escape from the cycle of exploitation. "Upon their arrival to Italy, our teams approach them and inform them of their rights before they can be reached by traffickers," said Di Giacomo. In Nigeria, recruiters from criminal syndicates often pose as benefactors offering to front the money for the women's trip. The women are then often taken to a witch doctor, who performs a voodoo ceremony in which the women vow to repay the sum - and are told that if they fail to do so, they will die or become insane. "Their belief in the power of the rite is so entrenched that often after pressing charges against their exploiters, many of them experience an acute feeling of suffocation," De Masi said. "In the absence of the rule of law, smugglers and traffickers alike operate virtually undisturbed. Harbour towns like Zuwarah have become virtually a highway into Italy," said Di Giacomo. Under Italian law, victims of sex trafficking can be granted residency in order to access the state-run welfare system. But analysts warn too many of these women fall through the cracks of a system geared towards controlling migration, with a disproportionate number living in Italy in a state of near slavery. "I slept on a mattress on the floor of the brothel and was allowed out only to prostitute myself," said Blessing Johnson, 26, who asked that her real name not be used for fear of reprisals against her family back home by the Nigerian mafia. "If I broke any of the rules, Queen [the madam of the brothel] would beat me with a broken glass bottle," added Johnson, who has a big scar across one of her feet, which she said was the result of an attack. Johnson said she worked in Queen's brothel for five years, from 2007 to 2012. Every night she was required to bring back 120 euros ($140), which required an average of six clients or more per day. Only part of this money went towards repaying her debt. "The madams also charge them for food and accommodation as well as renting the sidewalk" where they work, said De Masi, which she explained is managed by madams or other members of Nigerian criminal gangs. Exploiting the vulnerable Johnson said she met Queen for the first time in 2006 in her hometown of Benin City. Her father had recently passed away and her family had a small income. A neighbour introduced the then 18-year-old Johnson to Queen, who fronted her the money to take her to Italy, and who reassured Johnson she would be able to quickly repay the sum. "She told me I owed her 35,000 euros [$39,700]," said Johnson. "I had no idea what that even meant." Johnson escaped from the brothel, but her asylum claim was rejected and she was deported to Nigeria, where Queen's gangsters were waiting for her. "They said they wanted the rest of the money. I was afraid they would kill me," said Johnson. In June, after several threats from the Nigerian mafia, she fled back to Italy. Upon her arrival she was detained at the Ponte Galeria detention centre, because authorities suspected her of being an economic migrant. "We have been able to stop her deportation to Nigeria and apply for her to enter [Italy's] victim protection scheme, but a growing number of women like Blessing are being wrongly identified," said De Masi, who with Carla Quinto, a lawyer from Be Free, is working on Johnson's case. Budget cuts In 1998, Italy passed into law Article 18, which grants residence permits to victims of human trafficking. But the intense psychological manipulation and physical abuse to which the women are subjected during their journey often dissuades them from trying to obtain a residence permit when they reach Italy. The Italian government's Equal Opportunities Office has said protecting victims of trafficking remains one of its top priorities, but it is struggling to cope with the increase of arrivals amid recent budget cuts. "Over the past 14 years, our network has allowed over 24,000 victims to exit prostitution," said Corrado de Rosa, a spokesperson for the department. "However, our victim protection schemes have recently encountered some setbacks due to a reduction of the available funds." Be Free and other NGOs say the government's stricter migration policies are also to blame, because they place undue pressure on the women. "We had to set up a victim support programme inside a detention centre, as many of women trafficked into Italy end up there," said De Masi. "Why should we have to do this when there is a law that protects them?" Source:Aljazeera |

Below is what the former president allegedly said. I use allegedly because after now, he will come out and say he never said it. Read below... The truth of the matter is that Jonathan is aware that Buhari is qualified to contest for President Election but some hawks with Jonathan, do not want him to contest Because they believed that he will win and come for them. The issue came up in 2007, and we investigated and found out that his WASEC is with the military and that was why he was allowed to contest in 2007. Buhari cannot listen to anyone about his certificates because as a General of Nigeria Army,he will speak when he chooses, not by Femi Fani Kayode and Okupe asking him. Fayose and other corrupt People including Kashamu do not want Buhari because of his anti-corruption slogan. Even Jonathan did not finish his PhD course but when it was presented we stated that, it does not matter but many people do not know because it was PDP thing. I see Buhari as the next President and Jonathan is aware of that, and that is the reason they are hitting him everywhere to put confusion in his camp. But a General is always a General… |

Niger State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ibeto, and over 2oo political office holders on Monday defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. Announcing his defection to newsmen in Minna, Ibeto said, “I am on my way to welcome our party leader and presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, at Minna Airport for his campaign rally in Niger State.” Ibeto attributed his defection to injustice melted out him and other contestants in the state party primaries, describing the exercise as flawed and stage-managed to favour anointed candidates. Ibeto said, “The electoral process that threw up Alhaji Umar Nasko as PDP governorship candidate was not in accordance with the PDP electoral law and the constitution,”he said. “It is true we are defecting to APC because the primaries conducted were not in accordance wirth the PDP constitution. Myself and other aggrieved party members decided to petition the National Headquaters of the party on the outcome of the governorship primaries with a view to addressing the obvious injustice but met a brickwall. “We were expecting justice from the party’s national office but nothing was forthcoming, hence we decided to join the APC.” He however appealed to his supporters to be law abiding and not to make politics a do-or-die battle. Among those who defected from PDP alongside the deputy governor are serving members of National Assembly, members of State’s House of Assembly, former commissioners and former local governments chairmen |

South African politician and leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema has described president Goodluck Jonathan as an ‘irresponsible’ leader for neglecting the 2000 people killed in Baga but commiserated with France over the killing of 17 people in Paris. Malema wants South Africa to be involved in military action in Nigeria to wipe out Boko Haram, following the mass killings and abductions. He condemned Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan for commenting on the terror attacks in France but failed to act on what was happening in his own country. Malema, who addressed the press on Wednesday, said the EFF would raise this issue in Parliament as military intervention in Nigeria was more necessary than South Africa’s mission in the Central African Republic. “Eh Goodlook, or Badluck or whatever his name is or badluck I don’t know …He is quick to release statement about the killing in Paris but doesn’t say anything about the killings in his own country. That’s an irresponsible leadership”, Mr. Malema said. “We are really saddened by what is happening in Nigeria. It is highly disturbing. “And we need South African Government to intervene and we will be raising the matter in the Parliament. “We will make the Parliament to debate it as an urgent matter and pass the resolution for South African intervention in Nigeria,” he said. |

As you read this, Alao Akala has decamped from PDP to Labour Party, LP, at the last minute. Remember his son, Olamiju Akala began an early campaign for him with Omobanke in attendance few months ago in Ibadan where he openly flagged off his father’s governorship campaign under the umbrella of PDP? Well sadly, the one- time former Governor of Oyo State has quit the party. Though people say he left because it became obvious the party wanted another candidate, Alaka however claims he left when his teeming supporters asked him to quit because of insincerity and injustice taking place in the party. Continue... Mr Abraham Ojo, his media aide in a press statement also buttresses the former governor’s claims saying the party has not been fair. “Thousands of supporters of the former governor stormed the Bodija residence to deliberate on the way forward, after the injustice meted to him by the PDP. “After series of meetings and discussions, they all decided to dump the PDP and move to an alternative party, which is Labour Party.” “Everybody in the state knows that Alao- Akala and his supporters are strong pillars that hold the party and if a genuine delegate congress is conducted, Alao-Akala will always win, but since the national secretariat has given in to the manipulations of the minority in the party, we have no option but to quit.” He also noted that they never participated in the party’s primaries and he wonders where they got the results where they said Akala had two votes in the primaries. He has made his intention to quit the party known since Sunday, after meeting with his teeming supporters in Ogbomoso and later on Monday in Ibadan, even before the process started. “It is laughable and ridiculous to say Alao-Akala scored two votes in the primaries he did not even participate in. He is a political giant who has been a bride to all political parties in the state since the PDP travails started,” he added. I also heard some party big names such as chief Jacob Adetoro, Chief Adigun Irawo, General Yusuf Braimoh, some past commissioners and local government chairmen left with him. Arsenal fans hurled insults and boos at manager Arsene Wenger, as he boarded a train at Stoke-on-Trent station, following a 3-2 loss at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday. The Gunners were three goals down in the first half and although they scored twice in the second half, they failed to take anything from the game. A YouTube clip which went viral, showed Gooners shouting “f— off and leave” at the Frenchman, while others told striker Joel Campbell “Get out while you can, Joel.” Wenger has since blamed their naivety at the back for the loss, while defender Per Mertesacker added: “We nearly came back from a shocking first half. We had to show some morale and some respect to our travelling fans. “At half-time we said to ourselves: ‘We’re going to fight until the end, no matter what happens.’ That was the only positive thing. We’re not normally like that [defensively], so it’s a big regret. “We have a few problems. We have had a couple of games in the last two weeks so we had to shuffle around a bit and sometimes when you’re not used to a position, you can find yourself one or two yards from the right position. “That’s not an excuse — overall we lacked a lot of things, especially in the first half, and we tried to turn it around and keep our chins up to give ourselves a much better position.” |
SaharaReporters has just gathered that the primaries schedule for today by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to elect the party’s candidate for the Anambra Central senatorial zone ended in chaos with different aspirants declaring victory for themselves. Uche Ekwunife SaharaReporters had reported a few days ago that many party members were aggrieved over reports that President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, had decided who they want to emerge as the party’s candidates in all the senatorial and House of Representatives primaries. In Anambra Central zone, Mrs. Jonathan had told oil tycoon, Arthur Eze, that she wanted him to back Ms. Uche Ekwunife, a controversial former banker turned politician who recently defected from the All Peoples Grand Alliance (APGA) to the PDP. Some of the candidates told our correspondent today that the party never told them the venue for the primaries nor did the party release the names of voting delegates. “We all paid N4.5 million to collect forms to run in the primaries. But the party that collected our money did not have the decency to tell us the venue for the primaries or the identity of those who are delegates,” one of the candidates told SaharaReporters. Our correspondent learned that Ms. Ekwunife declared herself winner of a “primary” from which other aspirants were excluded. Another aspirant, Sylvester Okonkwo, organized his own “primary” at Emmaus Hotel in Awka and declared himself elected as the party’s candidate. Yet another candidate, Obiora Okonkwo, reportedly held his own “primary” at Choice Hotel in Awka and was “elected”. A faction of the party controlled by controversial “godfather” Chris Uba is expected to arrange its own “primary” and declare former Senator Annie Okonkwo as the winner. “This is a shameful day for Anambra State, for the PDP, and for Nigeria’s attempt at democracy,” one party member told SaharaReporters. “If our party continues in this way, then we are likely to lose the support of voters all over Anambra,” he added. At a different location in the state, disgraced former minister of aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah was declared winner at the primary election held at Nteje in Anambra state. Ms. Oduah reportedly defeted Sam Ikefuna; John Emeka and Senator Margery Okadigbo with 259. SaharaReporters was unable to reach Olisah Metuh at the PDP national office to seek clarification on why the primaries in Anambra were marked by chaos and confusion. |
Dear Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, when you were around we called you: The BAD one. The SLOW ONE. The SICK ONE. Yes, you were sick, in fact, sick all through your administration. We all cried for your resignation at the height of your sickness. Cursing you, your first lady and your supporters (The first set of Cabals). Asking you to die if you want to die and allow the man with all the Goodluck in this world to lead us. We forgot that even though you were sick, you were the first Governor to have ever declared his assets publicly and you remained the only President in the history of Nigeria to have ever declare his assets publicly. We conveniently forgot that even though you were gravely sick you were the first president to ever reduced the price of petrol in Nigeria, (From N75 to N70 and later from N70 to N65) and the economy did not collapse like the present leaders are making us believe. You even reversed the sale of our refineries. We forgot that you didn’t afflict yourself with your sickness and so could do very little about it. But we still insisted that you just have to go, so that Nigeria can finally have her chance with Goodluck. We forgot that even though you were terminally ill, you still succeeded in solving the Niger Delta crisis which you didn’t cause, but you found a solution. And even crushed d first Boko Haram uprising and caught its leader. You gave us rule of Law, Ameachi reclaimed his mandate as Rivers governor, Andy Uba lost in court and was removed as Anambra State’s Governor. Oni lost in Ekiti and was removed, Agagu lost in Ondo and was removed, Osunbor lost in Edo and was removed even though they are all members of your party (PDP). Now we have seen what a healthy president has done with the country. His Excellency President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, may your Soul Rest in Perfect Peace. We will forever remember you and your leadership. Sincerely, share Around If you sincerely Care for the New Change IN Nigeria. |
