Published: July 1,2014 Former Minister of Transportation, Umaru Dikko https://media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2013/07/image7.jpg A prominent northern politician and Minister of Transportation during the Second Republic, Umaru Dikko, is dead, his son, Dr. Bello Dikko and another family member, have said. Mr. Dikko, 78, died early Tuesday in a London hospital, Mr. Dikko and another family member told PREMIUM TIMES. He has been sick for “quite some time” and suffered three strokes in a row, a family member said. Details later…. Meanwhile, below is Wikipedia entry for Mr. Dikko. Umaru Dikko (born 1936, Wamba) is a Nigerian politician and was a trusted adviser to President Shehu Shagari. He was also the Nigerian minister for Transportation from 1979-1983. He started playing a role in the nation’s governance in 1967, when he was appointed as a commissioner in the then North Central State of Nigeria (now Kaduna State). He was also secretaryof a committee set up by General Hassan Katsina to unite the Northerners after a coup in 1966.[1] In 1979, he was made Shagari’s campaign manager for the successful presidential campaign of the National Party of Nigeria. During the nation’s Second Republic, he played prominent roles as transport minister and head of the presidential task force on rice. A military coup on December 31, 1983 overthrew the government of Shagari. Dikko fled into exile in London as well as a few other ministers and party officials of the National Party of Nigeria. The new military regime accused him of large-scale corruption while in office, in particular of embezzling millions of dollars from the nation’s oil revenues. On July 5, 1984, he played the central role in the Dikko Affair; he was found drugged in a crate at Stansted Airport that was being claimed[2] as Diplomatic Baggage, an apparent victim of a government sanctioned kidnapping.[3] The crate’s destination was Lagos.[4] http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/164210-breaking-prominent-northern-politician-umaru-dikko-is-dead.html |
Gimba Kakanda You see, it's not the fact that the politician has his tomato face colourfully branded on these bags that disturbs me. It's the fact that he has them referred to as "Sadaqatul Jariyah" - ceaseless charity! This is not charity, for it's being offered in expectation of a certain return, favour. This is also not ceaseless, for we all know it stops after the elections. This is an outright exploitation of a people's vulnerability; a people whose economic troubles were caused by mismanagements of public funds and abuse of public trust by the same "humanitarians". This is also a clear misrepresentation of the Islamic concept of continuous alms. Yet these political charlatans are taken more serious by the electorate, in their obsessions with upgrading the infrastructure of the stomach!

It was another party in Copacabana, the bars packed, the samba turned up — and, in the middle of it all, hundreds of World Cup fans lining up to be bitten by Luis Suarez. Or at least that was what it looked like in the photos snapped in front of an Adidas billboard of the disgraced Uruguayan star giving an open-mouthed war cry above the suddenly ironic slogan “All or nothing.” Here are some of the photos. Kindly pick your favourite and if you can make one, we will be glad to publish it. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/06/photo-op-fury-suarez-bite-billboard/#sthash.HNRVKzi7.dpuf https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/SuarezBite4.jpg https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/SuarezBite5.jpg https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/SuarezBite1.jpg https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/SuarezBite2.jpg https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/SuarezBite3.jpg A tourist jokes in front of an advertisement with the portrait of Uruguay’s forward Luis Suarez at Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 26, 2014. Symphony007: We have list of richest actors,musicians,royals,buisnessmen,etc....but there is something deeply troubling about pastors having a rich list. What will Christ who had to bless five loaves of bread and two fishes to feed thousands say? That should tell you how rich Christ was when he was on planet earth. The Richest. Mind you the book of Revelation record that the street of heaven/paradise is made of pure gold, gold that is as clear as crystal. Servants of God having rich list is no sin. |
Op you should have ask for clarification before you jump to conclusion. A regent in Yoruba land only occupy the throne for awhile till the kingmakers select a son in the next royal house who will be crown as the next king, that is the reason the deposed Deji of Akure appealed to Governor Mimiko to re-instate him as he and the late king are from different royal family; sorry to disappoint you Mrs. Dike children can never become King or Queen in Akure land. That is tradition. You should have ask if the late king don't have a son, then why his first daughter? Tradition says a late king first daughter, even if she is number seven among the children, shall serve as the Regent at the demise of the King. After the kingmakers must have done their part as she was rightly qouted, the State Governor will do the needful and Mrs. Adesida-Dike will return home. Hope you are clear? |
