The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, will in due course, give appropriate response to all that were said last Friday, by the former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, the Minister's Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, has said. In a statement on Monday, Olayinka, said the FCT Minister won't let Tambuwal's latest diatribe against him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu go unresponded to. Tambuwal had said on Channels Television’s Politics Today last Friday, that his political choices had always been guided by principles of leadership and not by personal relationships, and that he would support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over Wike, if he had to make a choice on who should lead the country. Responding, the FCT Minister's Spokesperson said; "I have been inundated with calls, especially from journalists, seeking the Minister's reaction. "Apart from what he said against the Minister, Tambuwal also cast aspersions on President Tinubu and such will not go unresponded to. "Therefore, what I can say is that the Minister will respond accordingly. He will definitely tell Nigerians what a betrayal is and what it means to have integrity. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the issuance of fresh Statutory Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) and Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) to 374 property owners across 15 streets in Abuja, following the discovery that they illegally converted the land use of their properties without official approval. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the distribution of fertilisers at 50 per cent subsidised rates to farmers across the six area councils of the territory. Speaking during the flag off of the distribution of 550 metric tonnes of assorted fertilisers, including conventional NPK, granular urea, NPK gel, and urea gel fertilisers in Abuja on Thursday, the minister, represented by his Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi, said the aim was to boost food production, stabilise prices, and strengthen food security in the territory. “This initiative underscores our firm commitment to food security, agricultural revitalisation, and the welfare of our people. As the FAO has emphasised, food insecurity threatens dignity, stability, and peace. “In view of this, and in alignment with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the FCTA has institutionalised this annual support scheme to ease production costs and enhance yields. “The timing of this exercise is deliberate – coinciding with the farming season – to ensure that farmers can access inputs when they are most needed,” he said. The minister warned that measures had been put in place to ensure that the resources reached genuine farmers and to prevent diversion or misuse. He acknowledged that the fertilisers were not enough, stating that together with its partners, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Leventis Foundation, and the World Bank, the administration was prioritising capacity building and the promotion of good agronomic practices. “Together, these interventions are reclaiming degraded lands, supporting livelihoods, and revitalising key agricultural sectors. “Let me reaffirm that this administration remains committed to building a prosperous, inclusive and secure city,” Wike stated. Meanwhile, the Mandate Secretary, Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Ango Abdullahi, thanked the minister for his consistent support, noting that the farmers will also receive 3,500 knapsack sprayers in addition to the fertilisers, and that there was an urgent need to strengthen the sector, as the population in Abuja continued to grow. Abdullahi said the fertilisers will be distributed to the farmers at a 50% subsidised rate “in strict adherence” to the Minister’s directives, adding that the Secretariat was aligned with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, to reposition the agricultural sector of the FCT.

Notable leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are loyalists of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, have demanded the retention of the 2021 convention's zoning arrangements, insisting that the National Chairman must remain in the North-Central. The PDP leaders, who met in Abuja on Monday night, under the auspices of Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, also called for the conduct of a fresh South-East Zonal Congress, congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States as well as Local Government congress in Ekiti State. They also demanded that the outcome of the South-South Congress held in Calabar, Cross River State, on February 22, 2025 and recognised by the court be respected. In the communique of the meeting, read by the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, the PDP leaders cautioned that "failure to comply with the resolutions and demands shall render any purported national convention invalid, as legitimate members of the party would be disenfranchised." Among those who attended the meeting were the FCT Minister, PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, former Governors of Abia, Benue, Ekiti and Enugu States, Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, Ayo Fayose and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, House of Representatives Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly and Martins Ameawhule. Also in the meeting were serving and former members of the National Assembly, North Central and South South National Vice Chairmen, Abdulrahman Mohammed and Dan Orbih, as well as Abia, Benue, FCT, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States PDP Chairmen, among others. The Communique read; "We, the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having met to review the state of our great party and assessed the critical issues leading to the forthcoming National Convention, do hereby express our collective commitment to the principles of equity, justice, inclusivity, and the rule of law - values upon which the PDP was founded and upon which its survival depends. "We reaffirm our belief that leadership positions within the party must remain open, inclusive, and competitive, while ensuring regional equity in accordance with the PDP’s long-standing traditions. "In the spirit of unity and progress, and mindful of the party’s historical role as a custodian of Nigeria’s democratic aspirations, we considered it imperative and expedient to make the following observations and convey our demands to the party leadership and the National Working Committee (NWC) as we prepare for the National Convention. "It is our observations that the PDP stands at a defining crossroads where its ability to reconcile internal disputes, uphold fairness, and respect constitutional processes will determine its future relevance. That unity cannot be built on disenfranchisement, exclusion, or the neglect of valid judicial pronouncements. That a credible National Convention must be anchored on transparency, fairness, and respect for the rule of law as well as inclusivity. "We call on the National Working Committee to urgently conduct fresh, transparent, and inclusive congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States, in line with judgments of the courts. "That a fresh and legitimate South-East Zonal Congress should be conducted. "That the outcome of the valid and legitimate South-South Congress held in Calabar, Cross River State and recognised by the court be respected. "That the Ekiti State Local Government Areas Congress should be conducted immediately, in obedience to the subsisting court judgement. "That on zoning of party offices, whereas; we agree with the zoning committee’s recommendations, which was adopted by NEC that status quo remains, we further, and very strongly hold that there should be no form of micro-zoning for peace and stability within the party. "Consequently, the National Chairman of the party should remain in the North-Central in line with the zoning formula of the 2021 convention. "It is pertinent to caution that failure to comply with the above resolutions and demands shall render any purported national convention invalid, as legitimate members of the party would be disenfranchised. "The PDP was built on the foundation of inclusivity, fairness, and justice. Therefore, to reclaim its pride of place as the leading opposition and the true alternative for Nigerians, the party must now rise above narrow interests and embrace collective responsibility. "We, the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders, remain steadfast in our loyalty to the party and resolute in our determination to work with all organs and leaders of the PDP to ensure that the forthcoming National Convention becomes a watershed moment — a moment where unity triumphs over division, and justice prevails over impunity. The decision of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) to zone the presidency to the South, and retaining the National Chairman of the party in the North has been described as another clear vindication of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike and the G-5's position in 2022. The Minister's Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, who reacted to the zoning, asked; "Now, that the party has realised its mistake of not listening to Wike and the G-5 in 2022, and have chosen to do what they said, three years after, have they not been vindicated now?" "Recall that the FCT Minister and the G-5 had insisted that the presidential candidate of the PDP and its National Chairman must not remain in the same zone, insisting that since Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, from the North had emerged as the presidential candidate, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, also from the North must resign to pave the way for a National Chairman from the South. Ayu, however insisted on not resigning, with Atiku and his group backing him. Aftermath of this was the electoral misfortune the party suffered in 2023, followed by instability after the elections. "But today, the NEC resolved that since the National Chairman of the party is zoned to the North, the PDP 2027 Presidential ticket be zoned to the South. "Has PDP not come back to eat its own vomit? "Sadly, they know the truth. Wike simply said, take the chairmanship to the South if you want to gain the presidency, but they said no, they must take the two, and the PDP lost! "They have realised the mistake they made in 2022 and are correcting it in 2025. But is it not too late already, bearing in mind that the only way the zoning can be justified is for the South to conclude its eight years, while the presidency returns to the North in 2031? The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has taken delivery of four super 50-seater hybrid buses powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel fuel, donated by the Presidential CNG Initiative, to help boost public transportation in the territory. It would be recalled that the PCNG Initiative is a flagship programme of the Federal Government of Nigeria, launched in 2023, to promote the widespread adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, especially in mass transit systems, driving cost savings, job creation, energy security, and an environmentally friendly transport system. Receiving the keys for the high-capacity buses on Thursday, the Mandate Secretary, FCT Transport Secretariat, Chinedu Elechi, described the gesture as a welcome development, as it would complement the ongoing repositioning of the public transport architecture in the FCT. Elechi, who received the donation on behalf of the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, noted that the buses would be moving over 200 people efficiently, thereby improving the daily mass transit of commuters across the territory. According to him, the FCT Minister has always maintained that no modern city can survive without a robust public transportation system. “So, public transportation is meant to move people from one point to the other, especially those who cannot afford private transportation, or those who can afford private transportation but opt to go on the public system. Because when tourists come in, they do not come with their private transportation. So tourism also depends on a robust public transportation system. “This is why the Honourable Minister (Wike) has built roads, bridges, and is now building bus terminals. We have just commissioned two of the modern bus terminals at Mabushi and Kugbo. “These buses, as good as they look, will be very helpful. We are going to get more buses; the minister is already working on that and we thank you so very much for this. They look very nice. I am sure both those who have private transportation and those who do not would enjoy the ride. “So, on behalf of the Honourable Minister and the FCTA, we want to thank you and say that you should extend our gratitude to Mr President, whose initiative this is, and to you too for your hard work,” he stated. Earlier, while making the donation, the Programme Director/Chief Executive of the Presidential CNG Initiative, Mr Michael Oluwagbemi, said the donation was part of its effort to make CNG a reality for efficient public transportation. He said the FCT, having demonstrated great support for the programme and shown great innovation by investing not just in roads but also in terminals under the leadership of the FCT Minister, deserved to be a major beneficiary of the initiative. He expressed hope that the delivery of the buses would serve as a foundational asset for the operation of the new terminals and a robust transportation system in the FCT. He explained: “This is a presidential initiative. Mr President wants to see Nigerians move around more cheaply, safely, and reliably. On behalf of Mr President, on behalf of the board of the PCNGI and its management and staff, I hand over these four CNG hybrid buses to the service of humanity and for the employment of the people of the FCT. “You are receiving four because you are one of our biggest supporters and also because, through you, we know more people, as you are in the business of direct transportation in the FCT. We see your terminals, we see your roads. “We have identified potential onward beneficiaries of these buses to ensure that they get to the people of Nigeria and deliver the promise of Mr President. “I want to say that we look forward to your (FCTA) continued partnership. We just left the FRSC, and they informed us that they will be launching new plate number formats for both CNG and EV vehicles in September.”

The Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has conducted a major clearance operation at the popular UTC Complex and its surrounding area, targeting what it described as a "dark spot" and haven for criminal elements. The Director of Development Control in the FCTA, TPL Mukhtar Galadima, told journalists at the site that the operation was part of a broader city sanitation and security initiative. Galadima explained that the operation began with the clearing of a dumpsite near the UTC complex before moving to the main area where "hoodlums were." He noted that the FCT Security Council had directed the operation and that the administration planned to sustain the effort to ensure lasting change. The cleared land, located within the transit way corridor of the Abuja Master Plan, will be secured through fencing to prevent future encroachment. "In the Abuja Master Plan, the Land Use Act for Phase One and Garki District, this is part of the transit way corridor. It has not been developed yet, but it is being maintained and protected against any instance of land grabbing," he said. Responding to recent social media backlash regarding the demolition of a garden in Zone 3, Galadima clarified that proper procedures were followed and that the garden, Panorama, was never demolished. He stated that notices were served as far back as October 2023, with subsequent notices in 2024 and February 2025. Galadima said he also personally met with mechanics and even miscreants in the area to inform them of the impending clearance. He stressed that the park itself was not destroyed, saying, "The Park which was allocated to Panorama is still in existence. If you go there till today, the playground is there, the Gym is there, even the lounge. All other facilities are there in the Park." The director added that only "makeshift structures" and "scavengers' shanties" were removed. The Director of Security, represented by Dr Peter Olumuji, further explained that the clearance operation is part of a "purposeful" effort to tackle locations where criminals operate. He noted a significant drop in crime rates in areas that have been cleared over the past week, according to statistics from the FCT Police Command. "Since we started this operation one week ago, up till now, from the crime statistics records we followed up from the FCT Police Command, we noticed that the crime rate within the areas we have removed have reduced drastically," Olumuji said. He confirmed that arrested criminal elements are being profiled for prosecution and that the FCT's "Operation Sweep Abuja" is simultaneously tracking and removing displaced criminals from other locations. Olumuji revealed that "several machetes" used to attack residents have been recovered during the operations.

A New Abuja. A New Synergy. A Renewed Hope By Adeola Agoro My team of chosen and dedicated colleagues and I have spent the last few weeks producing content on the 10-Point Achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as delivered through the Federal Ministry that I consult for. After presenting the materials to my Director today, I felt the need to exhale properly. So I asked my driver to take us; myself, my Director and a staff to any nice place in town. I simply needed a breath of fresh air in a new environment. But as we drove through Abuja, I almost didn’t recognize the city again. One road led into another. I was stunned by the number of new roads we now have in town, and that’s not all, they’re absolutely beautiful. I remember the first thing that enthralled me when I visited Israel was their road network (I mentioned this in my book, Wonders of Israel: Lessons for Nigeria). In fact, in all the countries I’ve visited, I’ve always rated them highly because of their road infrastructure. So seeing Abuja now, stretched out and shining through these new roads under the Tinubu administration was truly impressive. As if reading my thoughts, my driver, Mr. Hakeem aka Fenuja said, “I’ve never been to America o, but I’ve seen it in films. Walahi, Abuja is now like America. Wike is trying for us.” I changed my plans to go and relax. I told him to take me to the office of Mr. Project himself - Nyesom Wike, where all the real planning happens, specifically to see my colleague, Mr. Lere Olayinka. Back in 2018, I served on the APC Ekiti State Governorship Campaign Committee (Sub Media). I was one of those who worked before, during, and after the campaign that led to Dr. Kayode Fayemi’s 2nd Term election. Mr. Lere Olayinka was on the other side. He worked for the PDP candidate, Professor Kolapo Olusola (Eleka). It was a tough job for all of us on both sides. They threw jabs, we countered and vice versa. But in all, we remained respectful. We never got personal. We defended our candidates, but never attacked each other as individuals. After the election, we all dissolved into the space ahead, back to our careers and businesses. No hurt feelings. So, today, with the confidence of someone who fought a good fight without hurting feelings, we went to Mr. Lere Olayinka’s office without a prior appointment. And we were received with warmth and grace. I may not know everything in this world, but one thing I know for sure is this: Tinubu is working. I can’t speak for what other media units in ministries are doing about publicity, but I know that my Minister, the Permanent Secretary and even the Director of Procurement, all want the achievements so far to be showcased to the world. There are many achievements. But civil service operates on bureaucracy, and with bureaucracy comes delayed approvals for something as important as publicity. This is probably why much is not yet placed out for the world to see. However, I don’t need approval to speak about the visible transformation of Abuja. Even Lokogoma, where I live, now has streetlights and we can move easily at night and the crime rate in this area has reduced significantly. I was away in Lagos for six months and came back to a city I could hardly recognize. Wike has come to replant Abuja and many of us are happy. As for Mr. Lere Olayinka, know this: You now have in me a partner with the restless creative spirit with the tools to make the Abuja work of Tinubu and Wike shine brighter. This is a new synergy. Former Governor of the Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has criticized the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government. Fayemi said Nigerians are hungry under Tinubu’s administration, adding that Nigerians may not vote for him in 2027. In a video sighted by DAILY POST, Fayemi was seen saying that Nigerians are angry with the Tinubu-led Federal Government and insinuating that they will not vote for the APC in the presidential election. Speaking in Yoruba, Fayemi said: “Except we are deceiving ourselves, Nigerians are not happy with the Federal Government. Because of hunger and lack of money. “If we look at the roads, especially federal roads, whoever that is coming from Efon Alaaye and passes through Erio Ekiti will know what his eyes will see. “Whoever that is coming from Omuo Ekiti and passes through Ilasa Ekiti to Ayedun Ekiti will know what his eyes will see. When we did this road that BAO (Governor Biodun Oyebanji) just completed, I think like N18 billion to N20 billion was spent on that road. “Federal Government said they didn’t send us to do the road, so no refund was made. If they had refunded the money, won’t the governor have used the money to do the phase 2 of the road we did from Ado Ekiti to Iyin Ekiti, and construct the road to Aramoko-Ekiti?” Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye and another member of the House of Assembly, Tope Longe were on the high table with Fayemi in the video. The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State has named its convocation Arena after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The arena, was officially inaugurated on Saturday by the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas. The inauguration was part of activities marking the university’s 35 Combined Convocation Ceremony and 50th Anniversary. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, said that the first convocation of the university in 1982, was held in the old arena. “We are proud today, to celebrate the 35th convocation in our 50th year of existence in this fantastic edifice, built by the Rivers Government during Wike’s administration,” he said. Also, Ibas commended the contribution of Wike to the development of the institution. According to him, the conception and construction of the arena under Wike’s stewardship, reflects his enduring legacy in infrastructural and educational development. “The ultra-modern convocation arena, now proudly inaugurated, is a testament to what is possible when vision is aligned with commitment. Your Excellency, we honour your foresight. “This arena, both in design and purpose, is not only a venue for convocation, it is also a sanctuary where dreams are validated; where academic journeys culminate in triumphs; and where future leaders will be publicly honoured. “It will involve policy dialogues, innovation exhibitions and ceremonies that shaped the character and capacities of generations to come.” He said that the inauguration of the edifice was symbolic, stressing that it represents continuity and a bridge between legacy of excellence and the promise of tomorrow. Responding, Wike, who was equally conferred with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Political Science (D.Sc Honoris Causa), thanked the university for finding him worthy of such exalted honour. “I must place on record that my wife and entire family hold this honour as pre-eminent and totally gratifying. “Our gratitude knows no bounds,” he said. The minister said that UNIPORT availed him the rich and concrete intellectual foundation upon which his socio-economic and political ascendancy have been fittingly predicated. “I was educated both in character and learning. “It is in the light of the foregoing that I have always strongly believed that every alumnus should give back to the university as a mark of pure gratitude. “This also explains why I freely give to this institution whenever I had the opportunity to do so,” he said. Other recipients of the honorary doctorate degrees were First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State and Aminu Masari, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MAG International Links Ltd, a private investor, for the development of City Walk Abuja. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said during the ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, that the project would be a replica of City Walk Dubai. The project, which would cover about 200 hectares, was inspired by the City Walk concept in Dubai. It will bring together a thoughtfully curated mix of residential, commercial, retail, hospitality, institutional, and healthcare facilities. Wike said that the MoU was to ensure that the company delivers the project based on agreed work plans and timelines. “I wish to say that the company has submitted their drawings, which have been approved, and their Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) is ready. “But we have to sign an agreement such that if you don’t comply within the outlined specification and agreed timeline, then we have the right to revoke the land. “We are not going to just give you a C-of-O and then nothing happens. We will not accept that again,” he said. He pointed out that so many people have collected land for mass housing and other developments “but ended up as land speculators, selling the land. “We will not accept that. “People have collected 200 hectares, 300 hectares and in 20 years nothing has happened. We have changed that pattern, so we are going to monitor the developments strictly,” he said. He said that Abuja City Walk would be developed in the area earlier designated for Abuja Technology Village, located along Airport Road, but had remained undeveloped for the past 20 years. “I want to make it clear that we have had problems with land grabbers in Abuja Technology Village, even those in the technology village are part of the problems. “In the past 20 years, nothing has happened in the area and therefore, I would not like to lose this opportunity that we have seen investors who really want to invest and develop the land for the good of the city. “If anybody has gone to Dubai and has seen the City Walk, there is no way you will not appreciate and encourage investors that are willing to do the same in Abuja. “This is because the whole essence of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” is not only to bring investors, but also to create employment for our people,” he said. The minister said that the project would be developed in phases, with foundation laying hopes to take place between July and August. He added that the first phase of the project would be completed and delivered in May 2026, to celebrate President Bola Tinubu’s third year in Office. Describing the project as “key” to the development of Abuja, Wike assured the investor of full support as directed by Tinubu to encourage investors to invest in the FCT for national development. He said that the FCT would provide access roads to enable the investor to begin work on the site immediately. “The Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority is doing his best to see that there is no delay in this project. “We have made sure that legally nothing will hinder the company from executing the project. “To encourage them, Director Development Control is here to make sure that nobody obstructs them and the Director of Land is here to make sure they have access to their land,” he added. The Executive Director of the company, Dr Kassim Gidado, noted the ongoing transformation in the FCT, which he said had increased investors’ confidence to make returns on investment. Gidado assured the minister that the City Walk Abuja would not replicate the one in Dubai but edge it. The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has been told to stop being shameless, stop immoral acts and pay attention to the welfare of her legislative aides, many of whom have left as a result of non-payment of their salary and entitlements for as much as six months. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in a statement on Tuesday, said the FCT Minister will not be available to be used as a launchpad for Senator Ireti Kingibe's dying political career. Ireti Kingibe had said on a television program that the FCT Minister was out of touch with the needs of the people and that "it’s not just about development, Wike's conduct is fuelling resentment among the FCT people." In his reaction, the FCT Minister's Spokesperson said it was funny that Senator Ireti Kingibe, who treats her personal aides like slaves and has refused to pay them their wages is the one talking about someone treating others with disregard. The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), will any moment from now, call off the three-month primary school teachers’ strike, following the intervention of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Chief of Staff to the minister, Mr Chidi Amadi disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, after a closed-door meeting with the Area Council Chairmen, leadership of the NUT, and representatives of the FCT Administration. Other participants at the meeting, he said, included representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANs) and the National Assembly. Amadi explained that the meeting was convened by the minister, in addition to previous interventions to find a lasting solution to the prolonged teachers’ strike. According to him, after extensive deliberation, a decision was reached to put the issues to rest. He announced that part of the resolution was to withhold the 10 per cent accrued Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the area councils for the past six months. He explained that the funds would be used to settle 70 per cent of the minimum wage owed the teachers. “Although it will not cover 100 per cent of the debt for now, it will cover about 70 per cent. This is a laudable move towards addressing the fracas once and for all. The chief of staff added that the minister had also directed that a Special Committee be constituted, composed of three members of NUT, two members from FCTA, one of the area council chairmen and representative of NANs. He added that the committee would revisit all the other outstanding issues and within the next two weeks, submit a report detailing how the other outstanding issues would be permanently addressed. “In addition to addressing the issues of the primary school teachers, Wike had taken a decision to address all outstanding issues of the local government employees. “The minister pledged to personally intervene to ensure that their demands are addressed by the FCTA. “This is to ensure that the area councils resume full operations effectively immediately. Speaking on behalf of the area council chairmen, Mr Abubakar Abdullahi, acknowledged the resolution, saying “although it was not in favour of the area councils, it was necessary to resolve the issues. “Six months of our IGR had been held to settle this issue. Ours at this point is to appeal to NUT to consider our children and call off the strike. “Please NUT, we are calling on you to respect the fact that the minister has taken his time to resolve this matter. “Wike had clearly stated that by law, he has no right to take the 10 per cent IGR of the area councils to clear the outstanding debt of the teachers. “However, the chairmen have all agreed because they also, collectively, want an end to the strike and so we have agreed that the 10 per cent IGR should go to the teachers”. He expressed optimism that the strike would be called off before Friday, so that children would go back to school. Also, the National President of NANs, Olushola Oladoja, lauded the resolutions and expressed hope that the outcome would finally put the matter to rest and the teachers return to class. Oladoja commended the minister for taking the bold step, stressing that any of the council chairmen could take him to court over such a decision. “However, I believe because the council chairmen also want the issue resolved, they have no option but to concede the IGR for six months,” he said. On his part, the NUT Chairman, Mohammed Shafa, acknowledged the deliberation, but said he would get back to the NUT State Executive Council, where the final decision would be taken. He stated: “Let me tell you how this country works. Wike while speaking during the commissioning of Ushafa/War College Road in Bwari Area Council of the FCT on Wednesday said "let those who have eyes see" what the FCT administration under his leadership and president Bola Ahmed Tinubu are doing to transform the FCT.. According to the minister, the achievements of the current government remains unprecedented and it's only those with eyes that can see the effort and results of the current government. According to him, " Let people hear. Let those who don't have vision, let those who are politically expired, let those, since 1999 have belonged to over 10 political parties, see what we are doing. "I thank God that today makes it the 5th day that the president had commissioned and thank God that wherever they are and whichever channels they want to watch, they will see Mr President commissioning projects everyday. Today is the 15th day of the entire project commissioning. Friday will make it the 16th day. The FCT Minister said he had never supervised any project the way he supervised the Ushafa/War College Road, commending the contractor for a good job. President Bola Tinubu who was represented by the Vice President Kashim Shettima commended Wike for transforming Abuja satellite towns, stating that the projects have opened the satellite towns to more economic opportunities. According to Shettima, "we are not just building roads, we are building capacity. We are creating jobs." Shettima who said the FCT Minister was dancing and performing urged others in places of authorities to take a cue from the FCT story by building a Nigerian that everyone is connected to. President Bola Tinubu says the leadership quality of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is taking governance closer to the residents of the territory. Tinubu stated this in Abuja on Monday while inaugurating the newly-constructed access roads in Giri district, executed by the Wike-led FCT Administration. The project was the13th so far inaugurated, out of the 17 outlined for inauguration to celebrate Tinubu’s second year in office. Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, the president said that Wike’s work speaks for itself in every corner of the FCT. “From the vast-spaced districts of Maitama, Jahi, Katampe, Wuye, Mabushi and the likes, to the towns of Gwagwalada, Kwali, Bwari and Abaji, and the growing communities of Kabusa, Ketti and now Giri district, your leadership has brought progress closer to the people. “You have not only embraced the visions of my administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”, you have localised it, made it meaningful and made it real. “Your actions have brought quality and excellence to the dual states of communities long laid in the shadows. “Honourable minister, on behalf of myself, my administration and the good people of the FCT, I say thank you for reminding us that good governance is not about fanfare, but about footsteps,” he said. Tinubu said that the newly-constructed access roads were not just infrastructural achievements, but a statement of intention to open up Giri district and the FCT. To the residents of Giri, Tinubu said: “May these roads lead you to greater opportunities; may they carry your children to school, farmers to markets, families to healthcare and dreams to reality.” In his remarks, Wike said that the district houses University of Abuja, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Academy and other institutions. He said that EFCC would be the first beneficiary of the access road, as it would encourage it to commence construction of its academy. “Most of the problem we’re having here is that sometimes, when you allocate land, there are no facilities, no infrastructure, and people are not encouraged to develop the allocated land. “So, we will do everything we can to see that basic infrastructure is provided in Giri to become an important district that will attract so many investors,” he said. The minister further stated that efforts had begun to construct the critical road network in the district. He said that he had already asked the acting Executive Secretary of Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr Richard Dauda, and other experts to begin working on the details. Wike added that the road network would help to stop land grabbing by University of Abuja, adding that the university had grabbed 11,000 hectares without authorisation. “So, I have told the director of lands and other relevant agencies to carve out 4,000 hectares and give it to the university. “The other ones would be reallocated because we are going to provide the roads here, and that is the true situation,” he said. On her part, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as yet another shining example of the Tinubu-led administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, connectivity and inclusive growth. According to Mahmoud, the Giri road is part of a broader initiative to open up under-served communities and stimulate economic activities within the area councils. Earlier, Dauda said that the project was awarded in November 2024 to provide access roads to the district, planned to be an institutional area. He stated that the proposed main sewage treatment plant for the city at Giri was also located within the district.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Planet Project Ltd, Mr Biodun Otunola, says the Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals are designed with the capacity to process more than 10,000 passengers each, daily. Otunola disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday, on the sideline of the inauguration of the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal by President Bola Tinubu to celebrate his second year in office. He added that the terminals were also designed to accommodate 120 buses and taxis each daily for both inter-city and intra-city travels. He, however, said that the one under construction in the Central Business District (CBD)was different, adding that it was essentially designed for intra-city operations. “We can take over 120 buses here and we've designed this place such that it can handle up to 10,000 passengers every day. “It's the same thing with the one in Mabushi as well. The same concept but the one at CBD, which is the third one, is a bit different. “The one at CBD is essentially for the city operation within Abuja, while Mabushi and Kugbo are designed to run intracity and intercity operations,” he said. On job opportunities, Otunola said that each of the three terminals would employ at least 100 persons. He explained that people would be in the security department, some in the ticketing department, others in facility management, control room, electrical department, mechanical department, maintenance department, and bus control. “It's very huge. It's like running a mini airport,” he said. The MD pointed out that Abuja before now has always been about car and road transportation, noting that for the first time, the government had invested in public transport to ensure comfort and security. He described the facility as a “transportation hub for the masses”, built in tandem with similar facilities found anywhere in the world. “So, if you come here and you are travelling to any part of Nigeria, including within Abuja as well, you will have the lift, the escalator, and you will have security. “This place provides you with safety, comfort and convenience for you to travel, and you can also shop while you are travelling. This is what we have all over the world. “We have all the modern facilities - fully air-conditioned, you have a loading bay area for passengers, you can eat here, you can have public convenience and cinema. “We also have escalators, we have lifts and we have a ticketing area. So, the area of stressing yourself because you are traveling is over. “Now you can travel with convenience, you can travel with ease, with safety and peace of mind and that's exactly what we have here,” he said. He added that with this development, people would be able to travel with confidence and without any fear, in a very safe, secure and serene environment. He commended Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for giving Planet Project, a local contractor the opportunity to showcase its capacity to execute world standard bust terminals for the residents of the territory. “I feel very very happy and elated that indeed the Nigerian government is beginning to trust its own people to do the right thing and to execute this kind of project. “Although this is not the first, we have executed, but to have pioneered this in the FCT is no doubt a very, very major achievement for us. “We are grateful to President Tinubu for giving us this opportunity and also the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike because if they don't believe in us, they will not try us and they wouldn’t have achieved this result,” he said. Otunola commended Wike for the decision to handover the facilities to the private sector to manage to ensure efficiency and quality service delivery. He, however, said that based on needs assessment, the FCT would need at least 12 bus and taxi terminals to cover significant parts of the territory. “We will need one in Gwagwalada, one in Kuje in Gwarinpa, Lugbe including the city centre in places like Area 1, Area 3 in Garki, Wuse and other strategic locations,” he said. Earlier, Tinubu, who was represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said that the terminals would equally boost trade, bring orderliness, safety and comfort to commuters. In his remarks, Wike thanked Tinubu for supporting the ongoing transformation in the FCT, including public transportation through the construction of bus and taxi terminals. Wike to upgrade IBB Golf Club to international standard By Philip Yatai The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, says the IBB International Golf and Country Club will be renovated and upgraded to international standard. Wike disclosed this when he visited the club in Abuja on Saturday, to assess the facilities. He said that the renovation would begin with the Club House, where golfers wine, dine and unwind stress, under emergency intervention. The minister added that the other sections of the club would be renovated and upgraded in phases. He said that the renovation would be handled by Julius Berger construction company, which built the facilities in 1991. He said that the club would remained closed until the renovation was concluded, in order to prevent it from degenerating. “It is better we put the place in order quickly, so that when people come in, they will have where they can relax, have their drinks and rest. According to him, making the club a tourist centre will attract investments. “However, I want to advise the Board of Trustees (BOT) to initiate some innovative ideas for revenue generation to maintain the club instead of depending wholly on the government,” he said. The minister explained that the BoT and the Interim Management Committee (IMC) were constituted to manage the club as government property. He said that the step became necessary because government is not a good manager of facilities. He urged the BoT and the IMC members to work as a team towards uplifting the standard of the club to international standard. “That’s why we will not allow anybody to take what belongs to us. We will not allow that. “Any move to sabotage what we are doing will not be tolerated,” he said. Earlier, the BoT Chairperson, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, appealed to Wike to renovate the club and upgrade its standard to be at par with the rehabilitated Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre. Dongban-Mensem, who is the President of the Court of Appeal, recalled that the club was built by the Federal Government and opened to the public in 1991. She added that the club, which began with 29 members, has, at the moment, 5,000 members using same facilities. She pointed out that the facilities at the club has worn-out due to excessive use over the years. According to her, if upgraded, the facility will become a tourist attraction site and in the long run, boost the economy of the country.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has promised to provide critical infrastructure in Wassa District to facilitate the relocation of Apo Mechanics traders and dealers. Wike disclosed this in Abuja on Friday, while inaugurating a committee to facilitate the relocation of the traders and dealers to their permanent site in Wassa District. The minister, who would chair the committee, has the Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Director of Development Control, Director of Land, Director of Urban and Regional Planning as members. Other members are the Director of Survey and Director of Resettlement and Compensation. Wike noted that several administrations had promised to evacuate the traders and dealers occupying a section of the Outer Southern Expressway corridor to their permanent site in Wassa but failed. He added that the President Bola Tinubu administration had promised to relocate the traders and dealers, adding that the administration had begun processes to fulfil the promise. “It’s been promise on promise since 2011 without fulfilment, but Tinubu has promised, and the process has begun. “As part of the process, on June 27, together with the leaders of Apo Mechanics, we will all visit Wassa, to see the permanent site for the relocation. “This will enable us to decide on the needed critical infrastructure to be put in place to facilitate your relocation. “This collective effort is to ensure that Tinubu’s promise is fulfilled,” he said. The minister advised the traders and the dealers against fighting among themselves, stressing that they would achieve more if they work together. He pointed out that one of the businesses of the government was to make people happy, adding that the FCT Administration would do everything possible to make the Apo traders and dealers happy.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, says big men (rich people) residing in Abuja remain FCT’s biggest problem in voluntary tax compliance for development. Wike stated this during the inauguration of the newly constructed Collector Road CN2 (Zakari A. Kyari Street), in Abuja on Thursday, by President Bola Tinubu to celebrate his second year in office. The road, from Arterial Road N11 (Ahmadu Bello Way) in Mabushi to Judges Quarters in Katampe District, and other roads were constructed by the FCT Administration. The minister said that the big men living in the FCT do not like paying taxes. He, however, expressed dismay that the same big men pay their taxes and ground rent voluntarily in London, the United States of America and other foreign countries. He said that the CN2 road and other connecting roads in Katampe District were executed with taxes and ground rents paid by responsible residents. “For those who said we sealed their houses for not paying a ground rent, see the value; see the product of paying a ground rent. “If you don’t pay, nobody will provide this infrastructure because the only thing the city has is just to collect taxes. “People say Abuja is rich. How rich is it?” he asked. He explained that what Abuja collects from the Federation Account was one per cent of what was due to the Federal Government every month. “So, assuming that the federal government gets N800 billion every month. One percent of N800 billion is N8 billion Naira and N8 billion is not enough to pay salaries. “Our salary today is not less than N13 billion because of the minimum wage increase. “So, if we only depend on one per cent of what the federal government gets every month, it means that we can only pay salaries, not to talk about carrying out infrastructure. “That’s why we’re very aggressive in saying you cannot enjoy infrastructure free of charge. You have to pay. “It has nothing to do with ‘I belong to party A; I belong to party B, I belong to party C’,” he said. He urged Tinubu, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Mr Benjamin Kalu, to talk to FCT residents on the need to pay their taxes. This, he said, would enable the FCT Administration to deliver more infrastructure in the territory for the good of all. He reminded FCT residents, particularly big men, that whoever has land in the territory and has not paid ground rent should pay or their names would be published as defaulters in newspapers. He particularly pointed out that no poor man has the financial resources to build a house in Katampe and Mabushi, adding that those building houses in the areas were rich men. “Mr Deputy Speaker, see what we are talking about. If you know you have land here and you have not paid, I will publish your name that you have not paid. “It has nothing to do that I want to embarrass you, no. We need money to do the work that we are doing. “No poor man can do these houses. No poor man. These houses are being built by rich men. So, you have to pay so we can carry out the job of delivering critical infrastructure. “We need people to pay their taxes so that we will carry out development in the interest of our people,” he added. Earlier, Mr Richard Dauda, acting Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority, said that the project was executed by CGC and was flagged off in October, 2024. Dauda said that the CN2 road was a dual carriageway of two lanes each while the other roads were single carriageway. He added that road projects were executed to provide infrastructure and open up the Katampe District for development.

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (DSc Honoris Causa) on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike. The Vice-Chancellor of university, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, disclosed during the presentation of the conferment letter to Wike, at his residence in Abuja on Wednesday. Georgewill added that the official decoration and presentation of the certificate would be on July 26, as part of activities to celebrate the university’s 50th anniversary. He explained that the Act of the university empowered it to award honorary doctorate degrees to distinguished Nigerians who have contributed immensely to the growth of the nation. He said that the university’s Senate approved the conferment based on Wike’s track record in public service and contributions to the development of the university and Rivers. “Today marks the beginning of the 50th anniversary celebration of the university of Port Harcourt, and there is no better place to commence the ceremony than where we are today. “You are also a distinguished alumnus of the university, and so the university is honouring you not only for your service but also your service to the University of Port Harcourt. “Your footprints are just there for everybody to see in the university. “We are proud to be associated with you and the university is indeed very proud that you attended it; you have a DNA of that institution in you,’’ Georgewill said. Mrs Gloria China, Registrar and Secretary to Council had earlier conveyed the confinement of the honorary doctorate degree on the minister in a letter dated June 10. “It is with profound please that I write to convey to you the decision of the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt at its Extra-Ordinary meeting held on Tuesday, 3rd June, 2025 to confer on you, an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (DSc Honoris Causa) in recognition of your visionary leadership and outstanding contributions to governance in Rivers and Nigeria. “The conferment will be made at the 35rd Convocation Ceremony of the university, which is scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 26, 2025,” she said. Presenting the letter, the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa, thanked Wike for being a good ambassador of the university. Ohuabunwa said: “The university is very proud of you because in every endeavour of your life you have made us proud. “When you were the Chairman and Security Head of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers, you defended the university. “When you were the minister of education, you attracted great developments to the university. “Today the Faculty of Law is in the university because Nyesom Wike was the minister of education.” He added that Wike did not only bring the faculty of law to the university, but he also built it. “As if that was not enough, when you became the governor of Rivers, you made an indelible mark and built one of the best Convocation Arenas in West Africa. “Few weeks back, when we came to congratulate you on your appointment as FCT Minister, you donated a multimedia centre for the convocation arena,” he said. He informed the minister that the convocation arena would be inaugurated on July 25, as part of the university’s golden jubilee. Responding, Wike thanked the university for the honour saying “for me, it is the university that gave me everything. “I am a proud alumnus of the university where I first studied political science before studying another degree in law”. He explained that as the then minister of education, he wondered why a conventional university did not have a faculty of law. Wike added that he felt bad and made it a point of duty for the university to have the faculty, including the Faculty of Social Sciences, to separate it from the Faculty of Humanities. He added that he equally built one of the best convocation arenas for the university because it deserves the best. “If I am in a position to do more for my university, I will continue to do it. “I am happy and I accepted the offer on behalf of my family, my wife and my friends and promised to be there to celebrate the golden jubilee of the university. “I will continue to partner and support the university,” Wike said.

Tinubu gave the charge on Tuesday while speaking at the inauguration of the rehabilitated International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja, which has been renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre. The President, who noted that the Minister of the FCT has reflected Nigeria and Nigerians in their real characters as a people with taste and strong determination, commended him for portraying the country as such in the quality of works he does at the FCT. Tinubu, who was taken through a guided tour of the refurbished facility, also hailed the work done on the conference centre, which hosts some of the most significant events in the FCT, also described Wike as a transformational leader. “You reflect us as people of quality, people of character, people of determination, people of great spirit. PDP EMINENT STAKEHOLDERS AND CONCERNED LEADERS MEETING. COMMUNIQUE OF 9TH JUNE, 2025 1. At a meeting of the aforementioned group on the 9th day of June, 2025, in Abuja, the state of affairs of the party; the need to reinforce internal democracy, equity and justice within the ranks of the Party were discussed and carefully reviewed. The Eminent Stakeholders and Concerned Leaders drawn from the various States of the Federation, took a deep and strong view of the situation in our party and came to following conclusions: (i) The seemingly untractable crisis in the party is as a result of inexplicable refusal of a few to adhere to the Party’s Constitution, with particular reference to Section 36(1)(a)(b) and (c), Sections 47(3)(5) and 48(1)(i) and the definite Supreme Court Judgment regarding the position of the office of the National Secretary of the Party. (ii) The Eminent Stakeholders and Concerned Leaders are alarmed that the Party is in inevitable part to self-annihilation, if urgent steps are not taken to rein in the desperate, divisive and selfish tendencies that brought the party to its knees in the lead up to the 2023 elections. (iii) These divisive tendencies, unfortunately, have found expression in the conduct of certain interest within the ranks of our party both at NEC, NWC and Board of Trustees levels. 2. Consequently, the PDP Eminent Stakeholders and Concerned Leaders resolve as follows: (i) That to finally arrest the inexorable drift towards extinction in our party, the party must, without further delay, respect the judgement of the Supreme Court. We therefore, unequivocally reaffirm Senator Sam Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of our great party. (ii) In the spirit of fairness, including, federal character principles and respect fof our Party Constitution, the party must make an unequivocal pronouncement Zoning its Presidential Candidate to the South in the 2027 elections after the unbroken years of Northern Presidency under President Muhammadu Buhari. (iii) In line with the provisions of our party Constitution, only the National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, can issue notices of meeting of the National Convention, National Executive Committee, National Caucus and the National Working Committee, and to this end, all notices not issued by him and actions founded on them, including correspondences to INEC are null and void, and of no effect whatsoever. (iv) Furthermore, it is clear from the Constitution that only the National Convention, properly and duly constituted can remove Senator Sam Anyanwu, the National Secretary, arising from his status as a member of the National Executive Committee of the party. (v) We, therefore, demand that the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary jointly issue a notice to INEC with an attached agenda for the National Executive Committee meeting of the Party being the only pathway to abide by extant laws. 3. We, the Stakeholders reiterate our commitment to uphold the rule of law, respect constitutional mandate, resist all machinations aimed at destabilizing the party and support the efforts of the National Reconciliation Committee headed by His Excellency, Senator Bukola Saraki.
