FCTA PRESS RELEASE Ada George Only Brought Violence, Killings To Rivers, No Single Development Former Governor of Rivers State, Rufus Ada George, has been challenged to list a single positive development he brought to the State, other than introduction of violence, killings and ethnic politics. Lere Olayinka, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike's Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, who threw this challenge in a statement on Thursday, said "At old age, people should begin to desist from acting shamelessly." He said it was on record the only impact that can be linked to Ada George, was the introduction of "Bush Boys" militant group, which he used to settle political scores, leading to the maiming and killing of innocent souls. The FCT Minister's Spokesperson asked; "After leaving office as Governor in 1993, what happened to his relationship with Dr Peter Odili, who was his deputy? Why did he not support Odili for governor in 1999 and 2003? Why was he in All People's Party (APP) while Odili was in People's Democratic Party (PDP)? Olayinka said; "Records of his involvement in the activities of the Bush Boys are well documented in the report of the 2008 Justice Kayode Eso led Rivers State Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which heard accusations that he (Ada George) sponsored the Bush Boys in the September 2001 violence. "Where are the Bush Boys he introduced and funded to kill and maim people in Rivers then? "As a former Governor of Rivers State, he could not reconcile the warring Okrika factions, reason they didn't have an Amayanabo until Wike became governor. Rather than ressolve the chieftaincy crisis, Ada George took side and used his Bush Boys militant group against those against his preferred candidate. "As Rivers State Governor, in 1993, when violence ensued in the Ogoni people's protest against exploitation by Shell, Ada George took side with his former employer against the Ogoni people. "That's the person of Ada George, who was among those who took side with the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara when he threw rule of law to the dogs and was boasting that the State House of Assembly and its members existed only because he wanted them to exist. "He never for once told Fubara the truth that it was illegal to run a House of Assembly of 32 members with just three members and that it the height of wickedness to deny fellow indigenes of Rivers State their entitlements, thereby making it difficult for to feed and take care of their wives and children. "Today, at close to 85 years, the same Ada George, who was urging Fubara on in his regime of lawlessness, is addressing the press and advertising his shamelessly by accusing the FCT Minister of being behind the political crisis in Rivers State, including the imposition of a state of emergency and the appointment of sole administrators in all 23 local government areas. "One wonders where he kept his position as an elder when members of the State House of Assembly, who are indigenes of Rivers State were deprived of their salary and other entitlements by Fubara. "Also, did the same Ada George, not say that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a 'meddlesome interloper who engaged in executive rascality by intervening in the crisis and reaching amicable resolutions that all parties signed?' FCTA PRESS RELEASE Lere Olayinka, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike's Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, has said that it was unfortunate that some elders in Rivers State, who played ostrich when suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara was acting like an emperor are now speaking like "children who lost their most priced toys." Olayinka, in a statement on Thursday, described as funny and unfortunate that a former Governor of Rivers State, Ada George, who was among those clapping for Fubara, when he was sitting on the salary and other entitlements of fellow indigenes of Rivers State, who are members of the State House of Assembly is now speaking on who should be blamed for the state of emergency in the State. During a media briefing, Ada George, had accused the FCT Minister of orchestrating the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, including the imposition of a state of emergency and the appointment of sole administrators in all 23 local government areas. Responding, the FCT Minister's Spokesperson, who said people like Ada George lacked what it takes to be called an elder, said; "unlike these people masquerading as 'Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum', genuine elders sit in position of neutrality when there are conflicts among younger ones so that they will enjoy credibility and respect while sitting on the high table to ressolve the issues." He said; "When Fubara was orchestrating the burning and demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly, supposed elders like Ada George were hailing him. They were telling him it was normal for three members to run a House of Assembly of 32 members, with 11 as quorum of one-third that can sit and 22 as two-third that can pass budgets. "When the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, intervened in the crisis and resolutions signed by all parties, it was this same Ada George that described the President’s intervention as 'executive rascality.' "He (Ada George) went further to say that the intervention by the President 'contravened the doctrine and practice of separation of powers and unilaterally suspended the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.' They were everywhere calling the President a meddlesome interloper and hailing Fubara. "Even when the Supreme Court ruled and made clear and unambiguous pronouncement, Ada George and his so-called elders still saw no reason they should tell Fubara to come down from his high horse of arrogance and lawlessness. Rather, they watched as he reeled out threats upon threats, including openly saying that he would give instructions as to what to do at the appropriate time. "True to his threats, Fubara gave instructions and Nigerians saw the outcome when oil pipelines started coming up in flames. "Now that Fubara’s lawlessness has resulted in the imposition of emergency rule, the same elders who failed to stand and act like real elders are sobbing like children whose most priced toys have been taken away. It is funny and unfortunate. "They have even turned themselves to monitoring spirits, monitoring when Wike comes to Rivers State and when he leaves as if it has now become illegal for a Minister to visit his home-state and associate freely with the people." I am not a lawyer, but I know that in Election Petition Matters, if you are challenging an election on the basis of irregularities or NON-COMPLIANCE with the Electoral Act, you must provide evidence in all the Polling Units you are challenging. Also, you don't just dump documents on the Court and go to sleep, you must bring witnesses to the court to speak to the documents. For instance, in a Governorship Election, if you are challenging conduct of election in 2,000 Polling Units, you must call witnesses in all the 2,000 Polling Units. The witnesses must be people who were present at each of the Polling Units - your Polling Agent or a voter in the unit. In other words, there must be a Polling Unit by Polling Unit analysis of non-compliance. The BURDEN of proving non-compliance rests on the Petitioners. The Supreme Court in CPC v INEC held that: "This court has consistently held that for a petition to succeed on non-compliance with the provision of the Electoral Act, the petitioner must prove not only that there was non-compliance with the provisions of the Act but that the non-compliance substantially affected the result of the election. Thus, the petitioner has the burden to prove that first, there was non-compliance with the Act, and that the non-compliance substantially affected the result of the election." Section 135(1) Electoral Act, 2022 provides that: "An election shall not be liable to be invalidated by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of this Act if it appears to the Election Tribunal/Court that the election was conducted substantially in accordance with the principles of this Act and that the non-compliance did not affect substantially the result of the election." Now, where petitioners plead non-compliance, they have a duty to prove it POLLING UNIT by POLLING UNIT, WARD by WARD. Meanwhile, petitioners have just 21 days from the date of the declaration of the election results by INEC to file an election petition. Section 285(6) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) also provides thus: “An election tribunal shall deliver its judgment in writing within 180 days from the date of the filing of the petition”. How do Petitioners gather as much witnesses, documents and other processes to establish non-compliance? During, hearing, how do Petitioners in a Governorship Election gather and move as much as 2,000 witnesses to court to give evidence? But lawyers won't tell their clients all these.

These include the 11km Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in Gwagwalada Area Council, the 15km A2 Junction Abuja–Lokoja Road to Pai in Bwari Area Council, and the Ushafa township roads in Bwari Area Council. The projects are among the critical infrastructure developments slated for commissioning in June this year.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has frowned at land grabbing and undeveloped lands in the territory. Wike raised the alarm while inspecting some ongoing projects in Abuja on Friday, in preparation for the second anniversary of President Bola Tinubu. The minister particularly complained about the size of the land acquired by the University of Abuja for its permanent site, with the larger portion undeveloped. Describing the development as “unacceptable”, the minister wondered why a university would acquire more than 1,000 hectares of land. He said that no institution or individual should take over huge sparse areas of land and deny development in the area. He argued that contrary to popular opinion that huge spares of land were being acquired for future development, most times the action was just land grabbing. He said that institutions often acquire huge spares of land and claimed it was for future development but would later lease the land out to people. “It doesn’t make sense. “What makes a university is not the large expanse of land; what makes a university is the infrastructure and the quality of training. “You can have 20,000 hectares of land and the university does not have any infrastructure. So, who does it help? “We must stop this idea of just acquiring land for acquiring sake. That is not the essence of it,” he said. He added that the Nigeria Police had also been given land in the area but had also failed to develop it. According to him, taking more land that is needed is simply land grabbing, nothing more. “If they give you land, If you develop it, fine; if you don’t develop it, the government will take it back and give it to those who want to develop. That is our position.” When asked whether the FCT Administration would take any action, the minister said no, for now. He, however, said that he would discuss with the FCTA Director of Lands and invite the university and the police to find out why they have not been able to develop their respective lands. He expressed optimism that with the ongoing construction of the road leading to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission’s (EFCC) Academy, many land owners in the area would be encouraged to develop their lands. “I am sure that the road will attract people to come and develop their properties,” he said. The minister assured FCT residents that most of the ongoing projects would be inaugurated in May to celebrate Tinubu’s second year in office. He said that the 15-kilometre Apo to Wassa service lane on the Outer Southern Expressway, including the road leading to the EFCC Academy would be completed and inaugurated in May. “We are very happy with what we are seeing, particularly the quality of the job. “We believe to the glory of God, that Mr President will also be happy when he comes to inaugurate these projects. “We commend the contractors for the good job they are doing and we assure them that we will continue to partner with them for the development of Abuja,” Wike said.

He said one Nigerian that can never be found in the gathering of men of character and integrity is Atiku, and his boss, Obasanjo, attested to this in his book; My Watch. Olayinka said; "One of the reasons Wike first rejected Atiku's offer to have him as his running mate was his not too impressive character and integrity rating, until he was prevaied upon. And this, Atiku exhibited when he rejected the decision of committee the party set up to pick his running mate even after telling everyone that the decision of the committee will be bidding on him. "Now, after his lies that he picked his running mate based on the committee report that placed the former Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, as number one was bursted, he is now sermonising about character and integrity, which he, himself does not have. "Funny that the same Atiku, that his boss described as a 'blatant and shameless liar,' is the one talking about character. "For the records, Obasanjo said in his book, 'My Watch' that 'What I did not know, which came out glaringly later, was his parental background which was somewhat shadowy, his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time, a propensity for poor judgement, his belief and reliance on marabouts, his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety, truth and national interest for self and selfish interest.' Olayinka, who said it was unfortunate that Atiku, could not respect the Holy Month of Ramadan and avoid telling lies, asked how a committee will present the person who had two votes as first choice as against the person who had 13 votes. Atiku had said, "So in 2023, I told the party to set up a committee to recommend three names. The committee ranked Okowa as the top choice, with Wike in second place and former Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel in third. So I picked number one." Reacting, the FCT Minister's Spokesperson said in a statement on Saturday, that it became necessary to put the records straight, hence the need to debunk Atiku's lies, insisting that "Wike never put himself forward to be Atiku's running mate then, Atiku did by himself, and he (Wike) accepted his offer with conditions." Olayinka said it was a fact that in the committee report, Wike had 13 votes while Okowa had two. He said "the committee set up by the PDP picked Wike as Atiku's running mate, but for reasons best known to him, he settled for Okowa, who had two votes from the committee members. That's the truth Atiku should tell and stand with, not trying to colour his decision with falsehood." Olayinka, who noted that, for devout Muslims, the period of Ramadan is that of holiness, said "Al-Bukhaari (1903, 6057) quoted Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) as saying that Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said: 'Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, and ignorance, Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) has no need of him giving up his food and drink.' "Unfortunate, Atiku chose to tell lies so brazenly during the holy month of Ramadan, obviously forgetting that Allah (SWT) do not hearken to the prayers of liars, probably the reason he (Atiku) has continually failed in his desperation to be president of Nigeria." While advising Atiku, to always be honest to stand by his decisions, Olayinka said the FCT Minister was no longer interested in what happened and what did not happen concerning the 2023 presidential election. Nigerians are tired of politicians who, when caught in wrongdoing, attempt to distract the public with emotional manipulation and baseless counterclaims. Senator Natasha’s suspension from the National Assembly is not about gender or persecution; it is about repeated misconduct, clear violations of Senate rules, and a disgraceful disregard for legislative decorum. Her actions set a dangerous precedent, and this must be stopped before others follow suit. Her suspension was triggered by persistent disorderly behavior and blatant disregard for Senate rules. She violated Rule 53(4), which prohibits senators from persisting in misconduct after being called to order, Rule 56, which mandates proper speech and behavior, and Rule 67, which ensures disciplined legislative debates. By ignoring these rules, she showed contempt for the very institution she was elected to serve. The Senate took necessary action to uphold discipline. A legislative chamber is not a personal battleground for theatrics and reckless behavior. If lawmakers are allowed to flout rules without consequences, the National Assembly risks descending into lawlessness, where personal interests override national responsibility. This suspension is a clear warning to all public officials: reckless behavior and disregard for rules will not be tolerated. Elected office is a privilege, not a personal platform for disorder. The National Assembly must remain a space of order, debate, and lawmaking, not a theater for disruptive antics. Instead of taking responsibility, Senator Natasha is introducing unrelated distractions, including claims of sexual harassment, to divert attention from her misconduct. Nigerians must not fall for this tactic. This is not about silencing a woman; it is about holding a public official accountable for her actions. Speaking through his media aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike said he has no regret that Atiku refused to pick him as his running mate during the build-up to the 2023 presidential election. In an interview with Adesina Giwa-Osagie, Atiku said he had “no regrets” for ignoring Wike as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election. Recall that the rift between Atiku and Wike dates back to the controversial PDP primaries of 2022. Wike had expected to be compensated with the vice-presidential slot, but Atiku picked former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. Addressing why he chose Okowa over Wike, Atiku stated that he deliberately left the decision to the PDP. “They said I did not consult widely in 2019 when I picked Peter Obi as my running mate, so in 2023, I told the party to set up a committee to recommend three names,” Atiku said. Olayinka was reacting to the decision of the FCT Administration to revoke land belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. There has been an uproar since the FCTA, under Wike, revoked 4,794 land titles over failure to pay ground rent for the past 20 years. PDP’s National Secretariat was among the affected properties revoked by Wike despite him being a member of the party. However, Olayinka said Wike carries out his duty without favoritism or preferential treatment. The Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM) has appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to reconsider supporting another Ijaw man as governor if Siminialayi Fubara is impeached. The group, in a statement signed by the Director-General, Johnson Georgewill, and Mrs. Sarima Akpata, Secretary, said that after conducting an in-depth study of the entire political situation, they stand 100% with the comments made by Minister Wike. The group reiterated the minister’s comment, saying that when the law speaks, violence, threats, and unguarded statements cannot reverse the law. The group also noted that if the governor of any state commits an impeachable offense, the House of Assembly of that state can commence the process of impeachment as enshrined in Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution. Furthermore, the RRM pointed out that apart from Bayelsa State, the Ijaws cannot single-handedly produce a governor in states like Delta, Edo, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, or Rivers. The group believes that Governor Fubara has committed several impeachable offenses, and if the Rivers State House of Assembly decides to initiate impeachment proceedings, Minister Wike should consider another Ijaw man as governor to complete the tenure of the Ijaws in Rivers State. They claimed that the appeal is based on the principles of equity, fairness, and justice, considering the Ijaw people’s interest in the governorship position.

Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced the disbursement of N300 million as scholarship to 16,225 indigenous and indigent students of the FCT. The scholarship is for the 2023/2024 award for indigent students in public schools. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, said during the disbursement in Abuja on Thursday, that the amount was just “scratching the surface”, considering the huge number of indigent FCT students in public schools. Wike, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Chide Amadi, noted that education was the bedrock of any development. The minister promised that the FCTA would sustain the scholarship scheme to provide educational services to the needy in the territory. He also pledged that the welfare of teachers would be given due attention, including their professional development. Anedi said that Wike had given approval for FCT public schools to participate in global science events and competition. He identified the events as the World Robotic Festival in Houston, Texas, and the Continental Open Africa AI Championship in Cape Town, South Africa. “These achievements are testament of the dedication, hard work, and talent of the students, made possible by the improved teaching and learning conditions in FCT public schools. “In addition, Wike also approved training and retraining of teachers at all levels, including the provision of vocational skills training for students, youths, women, and out-of-school children in FCT,” he said. Also, the Mandate Secretary, Education Secretariat, FCTA, Dr Danlami Hayyo, commended Wike for his commitment to improving access to quality education in the territory. Hayyo said that the Wike-led FCTA had so far invested more than N230 billion on the provision of education facilities, renovation and construction of new schools. The Director, FCT Scholarship Board, Mrs Hannah David, said that the board had so far provided scholarships to 146,000 FCT indigenous and indigent students since its inception in 2020. According to her, the scholarship covers basic, post-basic, special need centres, Nigerian Law School, and foreign tertiary institutions. “The scholarship cuts across all categories of students, including students with special needs, who are given wheelchairs and other learning materials.” David, who commended Wike for the support, appealed to other stakeholders to help the board to achieve its mandate, noting that the government alone could not do it.

The Health Services and Environment Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Thursday, unveiled Barrister Nyesom Wike (BNW) VIP Ward at Maitama District Hospital, Abuja. Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the secretariat, explained during the event in Abuja, that the initiative was designed to provide comfortable space to access quality health care services in the FCT. Fasawe explained that the ward was named after the FCT Minister, Wike, for his commitment to improve access to quality healthcare in a serene environment and curb medical tourism. She explained that the ward was transformed from a three-bedroom ward to a five-bedroom amenity ward with support from kind-hearted individuals, philanthropists and corporate organisations as corporate social responsibility. According to her, the establishment and upgrading of physical health infrastructure is very crucial to the Wike-led FCT Administration “Beyond being a VIP ward, it will equally serve as an amenity ward because every person is important. She described the BNW as “strategic intervention” to ensure that residents going to private hospitals to see doctors because of the conducive environment and facilities could access similar services in public hospitals. According to her, the move will ensure that patients, do not stay in the comfort of the homes and practice self-medication, but visit the hospitals to see a doctor in a very comfortable space “We want our patient to be comfortable. “As we unveil the BNW VIP Ward today, let me reaffirm Wike’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance healthcare infrastructure and improve patients’ care. “This initiative will serve as a beacon of hope and progress in our continued poise to elevate the standard of healthcare in our dear nation.” She disclosed that considering the contributions of health workers in healthcare services, doctors and nurses within the HSES system would access the ward’s services free. The mandate secretary added that while the ward would be open to every resident that could afford to pay, those with health insurance cover would access the BNW ward’s services at subsidised rate. She said that so far, the ward had been booked till the end of June. Fasawe also announced that the FCT minister had made provisions for the rehabilitation and upgrade of 14 general hospitals in the FCT in the 2025 budget, including doctors’ call-rooms. Earlier, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Rita Idemudia, explained that the BNW VIP ward was initiated by Fasawe, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. The WHO Country Representative to Nigeria, Dr Walta Mulombo congratulated the FCTA HSES for the initiative. According to him, the BNW VIP ward will provide space for Nigerians and those living in the country to access services in a very good environment. He, however, advised that the ward should not be exclusive to only VIPs but accessible to all Nigerians. “This is why we are supporting the development of the National Health Insurance so that the scheme can take charge of the expenses for all Nigerians to be admitted in the VIP ward. Mr Jama Medan, Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, described the provision of a good healthcare environment as “crucial” to the delivery of quality healthcare services to FCT residents. Similarly, the Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, FCT Chapter, Dr Emeka Ayogu, commended Wike and Fasawe for the initiative, saying “it will curb medical tourism abroad”. The Minister made the appeal in Abuja on Wednesday, when he inspected the ongoing construction of Obafemi Awolowo Way from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III within the nation’s capital, Abuja. Wike also inspected the ongoing construction of a 15-kilometre service lane of the Outer Southern Expressway from Apo to Wasa, as well as the Abuja International Conference Centre. Wike, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work so far, said not much would be achieved without the support of residents. “That is why we are saying to FCT residents that this project is for the interest of the public and not for individual interests. It is not for me; it is for everybody. “We are appealing to residents to cooperate with the various contractors that are executing road projects in the FCT so that we can complete the projects,” he said. He said that the projects were among those that would be inaugurated in May to celebrate Tinubu’s 2nd year in office.
