PoliticsRe: Nigeria now a corrupt-free and viably secure country- Nigerians in diaspora by Shuzzi(m): 6:28pm On Aug 01, 2021
[s]
Ladumaa:
Some Nigerians in Diaspora have called for more support from Nigerians at home, for the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, saying its giant strides should be commended.

In a statement by Prof. Peter Otah, Secretary of Nigerian Leaders in Diaspora (NLID), the Nigerian Diaspora leaders made the call at a rally in London, United Kingdom.

The NLID noted that unity and peace were essential for progress and development in the country.

The rally which was organised by the Nigerian leaders was held at the famous Trafalgar Square and attended by Nigerians and some other nationals.

The leaders prayed for more successes for the administration, especially as it consolidates efforts at curbing the seeming intractable insecurity in the country.

Mr Ade Omole, while addressing the rally said Nigeria was lucky to have Buhari at this point in time.
“Providence shined on Nigeria the day Buhari was declared winner of the 2015 presidential election.

“Buhari has not left anyone in doubt that his efforts are to ensure an egalitarian Nigeria that will ensure economic prosperity, corrupt-free society and a nation that is viably secure for business,” he said.

Also Mr Talba Galadima, one of the Nigerian leaders in the Diaspora, said Nigeria had never had it this good in the last four decades until the emergence of Buhari.

He stressed that the many obvious landmarks the Buhari administration had made were pointers to the fact that the country was projected for long-lasting economic and social el dorado.

Also speaking, Ms Edith Nwachukwu, said Nigeria was blessed to have a man with unparalleled integrity like Buhari as her President.

She described Buhari as a master infrastructure builder, saying that the president had made impact on the lives of Nigerians with the various projects embarked on since 2015.
Nwachukwu maintained that a government that had turned the entire country into a construction site deserved support and commendation from its people.[/s]

SportsMessi Agrees To New Five-year Barcelona Contract, To Take 50% Wage Cut by Shuzzi(op): 11:19pm On Jul 14, 2021
Lionel Messi will sign a new five-year contract at Barcelona and take an incredible 50 per cent wage cut, Goal can confirm.

Messi has spent his entire career to date on Barca's books, having initially made his debut for the club as a teenager in 2004, but dropped into the free agency pool at the start of July after reaching the end of his contract.

The Argentine won't be embarking on a new challenge away from Camp Nou anytime soon, though, with the Blaugrana set to announce that they have tied the six-time Ballon d'Or winner down to a fresh long-term deal.

How have Barca managed to re-sign Messi?

Messi earned a staggering €550 million (£468m/$650m) over the course of his last five-year contract at Camp Nou, which equates to around €75m (£64m/$89m) per season.

However, Barca were unable to hand the 34-year-old similarly lucrative renewal terms after exceeding La Liga's wage limit at the end of the 2020-21 campaign .

League president Javier Tebas warned that the Blaugrana could not legally register Messi without significantly reducing their salary costs, with the likes of Junior Firpo, Jean-Clair Todibo, Carles Alena and Juan Miranda all subsequently sold to raise extra funds.

Messi has also agreed to halve his yearly earnings in order to re-sign for Barca, and Goal has learned that they will formally announce his new contract in the coming weeks after a few minor details are finalised.

Did Messi have any other offers on the table?

Messi became available on a free transfer upon the expiration of his last deal, and it has been reported that the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Inter have all shown an interest in signing the Argentina international.

A possible return to boyhood club Newell's Old Boys was also mooted, along with a potential foray into MLS with David Beckham-owned franchise Inter Miami.

Goal understands that Messi received several formal offers, including an attractive proposal from PSG, but he ultimately decided to remain a one-club man and continue playing for Barca until 2026 - at which point he will be 39 years of age.
