No fewer than 64 people sustained various degrees of injuries after a fuel tanker exploded in Kano on Saturday evening.

Daily Trust gathered that the tanker exploded into flames while offloading fuel at the Al-Hisan filing station located at Ali Gusau Street, Sharada area of Kano metropolis.

Among the casualties were personnel of the Kano State Fire Service who had responded to the distress call.

Our correspondent gathered that many residents were also caught up in the incident.

Daily Trust observed that many of the victims were onlookers who had amassed to watch as the fire brigade battled the inferno before the tanker eventually exploded.

Though no loss of life was reported, at least 64 people involved are receiving treatment at the Murtala Mohammed Specialists’ Hospital.

The Spokesman of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said eight personnel of the Service were part of the 64 victims.

A senior Hamas leader and Israel's Security Cabinet have confirmed that a mutual ceasefire deal has been agreed.

The senior Hamas leader told CNN that the ceasefire will commence at 2am local time on Friday, though an official announcement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Officer said the ceasefire would go into effect at an hour to be agreed upon later.

The decision comes after more than a week of conflict left hundreds of people dead, the vast majority of them Palestinians.

Israel Security Cabinet had agreed to a truce put forward by Egypt for a "mutual unconditional ceasefire" over Gaza, according to a statement by the the Israeli Prime Minister's Office.

"The Security Cabinet convened this evening. And accepted unanimously the recommendation of all security elements -- the Chief of Staff, the head of the Shin Bet, the Head of the Mossad, and the head of the National Security Council -- to accept the Egyptian initiative for a mutual unconditional ceasefire that will go into effect at an hour to be agreed upon later," the statement from the Prime Minister's Office said.

The official statement makes clear that the Israel Defense Forces will be instructed to re-start its campaign against militant groups in Gaza if militant groups are deemed to be failing to keep their side of the agreement.
"The political leadership emphasizes that the reality on the ground will determine any decision to resume the military campaign," the statement said.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have carried out a devastating aerial bombardment of Gaza over the past 11 days, targeting Hamas' vast tunnel network and other infrastructure. Israeli strikes have killed at least 230 people in Gaza, including 65 children, according to the Hamas-run health ministry there. Some 72,000 Gazans have been displaced, UNICEF said Wednesday.

Palestinian militants have fired more than 4,000 rockets into Israel, according to the IDF. The longest lull in rocket fire from Gaza -- of more than eight hours -- took place overnight into Thursday, while Israeli military action continued.

Twelve people have been killed in Israel -- 10 Israeli citizens and two foreign workers -- as a result of Palestinian militant fire, including two children, according to the IDF and Israel's emergency service.
The truce comes after US President Joe Biden dialed up his administration's messaging on Israel Wednesday, in his fourth call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Biden faced pressure to do more to intervene in the conflict.

Netanyahu had said that Israel's military operation would continue until its "objective is achieved."

Hostilities between Israel and Hamas followed a period of several weeks of tension in Jerusalem, where a group of Palestinian families faced eviction from their homes in East Jerusalem in favor of Jewish nationalists. In addition, during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ended last week, there were a series of incidents which Palestinians saw as highly provocative, including the closing of a popular meeting place near the Old City, and the entrance of Israeli police into the Al Aqsa mosque on a number of occasions.

There were regular clashes in and around the mosque compound during which police fired stun grenades and rubber coated bullets while Palestinians threw stones.

Hundreds of Palestinians and some Israeli police officers were injured in the unrest.

Human Rights lawyer and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has slammed Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, for declaring President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba and other union leaders wanted.

The NLC had on Monday embarked on a protest and strike to press home their demand bordering on the mass sack of workers in the state. The strike has paralysed critical sectors of the economy in the state.

Kaduna State government in response declared Wabba and other NLC leaders wanted for economic sabotage and attacks on public infrastructure in Kaduna State under the Miscellaneous Offences Act.

Reacting to El-Rufai’s declaration, Falana described as ‘laughable’ the claim that the labour leaders contravened the provisions of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.

“The statement is laughable as it is common knowledge that Comrade Wabba and his colleagues are on the streets of Kaduna leading the peaceful protests embarked upon by the entire workers in the State since yesterday. The order of the Governor cannot be enforced for the following reasons:

“1. By the combined effect of the Trade Union Act and the Nigerian Constitution, Comrade Wabba and other labour leaders have the unquestionable rights to participate in the peaceful warning strike and mass protests against further retrenchment of workers in the Kaduna State public service.

“2. The Miscellaneous Offences Act is not a state statute but a federal enactment. To that extent, if Governor El Rufai has evidence that Comrade Wabba and other labour leaders have contravened any provisions of the Act he is required to lodge a complaint in any of the police stations in Kaduna State. The Governor lacks the power to declare any alleged offender wanted under the Act or any other law whatsoever.

“3. Furthermore, since Comrade Wabba and other labour leaders are entitled to the fundamental right of fair hearing including the presumption of innocence guaranteed by section 36 of the Constitution the Governor of Kaduna lacks the power to declare them wanted.”

Falana, therefore, called on the authorities of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to ignore the “illegal statement” by Governor El Rufai.

One of the residents called a lawyer and noticed many discrepancies in the letter the “officers” came with

1. EFCC does not deal with magistrate court, so that letter is obviously 100% fake

2. The suit number on the letter says FHC. Which means federal high court!

EFCC actually deals with federal high court, but how can the heading say magistrate court and the suit number say federal high court. The lawyer knew it was fake and immediately called the real EFCC

No fewer than three persons, including an infant were said to have been burnt to death in a fire accident in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

DAILY POST learnt that the incident occurred at Oke-Egunya, along NTA road, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Eyewitness account has it that the fire started as a result of gas explosion.

It was learnt that a technician had visited a house in the area to service a faulty refrigerator.

“In the process of topping up gas into the refrigerator, there was an attraction of fire from someone cooking and there came an explosion,” an eyewitness told DAILY POST.

The Director of Fire Service, Ogun State, Engr Fatai Adefala, has confirmed the incident to newsmen.

Adefala said his men, after receiving the distress call, raced to the scene to put out the fire.

However, three were burnt to death as they could not escape from the exlplosion, it was gathered.

“We received a distress call at 3:15pm at Oke-Igbore. We learnt it was a spark of fire. On getting there, we discovered it was a gas explosion.

“What really happened was that they were cooking outside with fire and unfortunately the gas exploded. They were trying to top the gas in the fridge, in the process, it exploded.

“Three lives were lost, one infant was among them. For now, the bodies are still lying there. You know it was those who are living in that house that were affected. It was an ancient building.

“Our men are still at the scene of the incident, including other agencies like the Police, DSS and others,” Adefala explained.
