coolscott: Do you realise this year's budget was the h-u-u-ugest in the history of Nigeria? Go check out last year's figure and then check out this year's figure. "H-u-u-gest" in dollar or Naira equivalent? Please answer. |

coolscott: Number 9 got me.
And the pro-buhari supporters on this thread are dissapointing me with their contributions. Most of them do not even deserve a response.
If it was a less intelligent post, maybe some of those contributions would not look so bad.
To those saying there is no funding, inspite of the reduced earnings, this year's budget is the largest in the history of Nigeria, as it took a huge leap from what it was last year. This administration's huge and creative borrowing on the China trip helped to make to make this happen You barely understand how your govt sustained the value of dollar in the past. It did it in a subsidy-like manner and right now there isn't fund to defend the dollar. The budget you are calling highest ever is technically one of the lowest ever in terms of its purchasing power. Compare its dollar equivalent to that of last year and you will quicky see that you are the one posting comments that is hardly worthy of a reply. |

opribo: First thing first we need to strenghten and build a new mass re-orientation agency that will recreate the patriotic zeal and the unity of the country. Anybody who promotes hate in the country either through speech or writeup must be shot dead. Promotion of cross cultural exchange through marriage. Down playing of religion in our national polity but rather entrenchment of mutual respect. The president can only be stronger than a state governnor by the office they hold and not the resource generated from the state.
People from other places should be encouraged to settle anywhere peacefully. The rest are ok. Do u realize the highlighted part requires heavy funding? If yes, how do you suggest it be funded without attempting to recover looted funds? |

The man is speaking rotten grammar. Is Buhari suppose to initiate Agricultural based Nigeria Got Tallent? The main goal of this govt is to reverse the corruption trend in the system and it is acheiving that goal well enough. Diversification itself requires funding and we are all aware that the present govt met huge debt and recurrent bill that's backed and sustained constitutionally. If with excess money we couldn't diversify how on earth will it be possible with a debt ladden system? People should know that govts doesn't create jobs but creates enabling environment for job creators. |

But this finance minister... I have no confidence in her anymore. I need to know how she is focusing the economy and stimulating it in the short term. I keep hearing about the construction and what have you, but if it isn't massive and concurrent it will not have the required impact. She is performing positive wonders already and it will take a very discerning eye to spot and appreciate it. |

Cause I haven't seen 2016 budget in operation. Except in the lives the APC,s. As far as govt is concerned, it takes money to diversify, and I mean lots of it. Any thing that aids mass scale production of either clothing, shelter, food, transportation, education or power component is always a welcome developement. With this Nigeria should stop losing precious capital and forex to importers. These are the things that diversify the economy. Let all state govt follow this pattern and we will start earning more forex than oil can earn us in no time. |

Reference: Oga. Government has no business building refineries. Fuel is a product not a social service. Get over octane addiction. Government should only create a conducive environment, till the field for the seeds to be planted by the citizens. In the strict sense of it, government should only provide infrastructure. Oga. Refinery na infrastructure?, no be business again?
You can understand that as a child in nationhood government in the 70's and 80's did everything as a parent for the people but at a stage the boy has to become a man and leave home. At a stage the father has to become a grand father. At a stage daughter has to get a kitchen of her own to command. At a stage son will start to spend his own money buying stuff his parents may not like. What does dad do, it is not his money. At a stage Nigeria has grown to produce the richest man in Africa and many more billionaires, industrialists, entrepreneurs, executives, scholars, professionals, etc. Should the country continue to buy fuel for them, continue giving them or should they take responsibility to give back to society and country. TY Danjuma and co have been drilling oil for 20 odd years, some of them have refineries abroad and then they come home to buy cheap 'government fuel'. Is that right. Is is right for a man to be in his father's house eating his mother's food at 50 when he has a job. Haba. Abeg rethink. We are not as useless as you make us to be. Government has no business building refineries 60 years after independence and 50 years after oil became mainstay. Please don't forget that our govt gets 52% of our earnings as a country. Truly fuel isn't a social service but our govt failed us by not stepping in after she failed woefully to provide the right environment. |

Reference: Then you downsize to what you can afford but what is the government doing, further employment: CBN, FIRS, Immigration, Police, etc. Instead of getting smarter it is the same old profligacy. What do you expect. If Nigeria was a business, your business, will you increase staff when your sales are down. Will you not find the technology to slimfit into your earnings. Unmitigated expansion in times of abundance is reckless, in times of want is just crazy. No wonder they hate the IMF and its austerity message so much, they hate the truth yet are crying and finger pointing. Who cares about what the past administration earned. You might as well go back to Gowon to ask what the size of the civil service was.
I repeat again, if the next administration is faced with an oil price of 15 to 20 dollars, will it be right to crticize the present one. Am waiting for credible answers. The number of staff being indirectly imposed on FG by states easily dwarfs anything the FG can erroneously impose on itself. It seem you forgot that between the time of $15-20pb of oil and now Yar'adua govt increased FG staff salary, lawmakers at Abuja and almost all states increase their pay. The sole fact that the previous admin was borrowing to pay salaries at $55pb of oil and the current admin isn't borrowing at $45pb- of oil has already given this admin good score mark. |

Reference: What if another leader comes in 2019 and oil trades for 20 dollars, won't people say the same thing about Buhari, refineries, debts and savings. And believe me, oil once sold for 13 dollars not too long ago. Up and down, left and right, have Nigerians learnt anything. You guys and silly, pointless arguments.
If Buhari wants to build a refinery he can take a loan and start building one tomorrow. Jonathan could have built a refinery at any time during his tenure but the consensus then and now is that government is not in the best position to operate them in the long term and the nation could not continue to subsidize consumption if it was interested in development. That is why even subsidy is ended. The petroleum industry has not failed, it is succeeding. The changes we see though painful are for the better. What was govt wage bill then? |
