Family › Re: Marrying And Taking Her Abroad; A Regret? by Signum(f): 7:35pm On Dec 02, 2021 |
socialmediaman: Many people in Nigeria are desperate at the moment and they’re not on the same page as you wanting to settle down and grow a family. Moreover, being on the same page to settle down doesn’t still mean it’s you they want to settle down with, but due to desperation they will get married to travel abroad and change their lives.
Talking about marriage, you see, many marriages may survive in Nigeria but they can’t survive abroad because there is more freedom and more options for independence there compared to Nigeria.
How often do serious problems happen with marriages abroad? I don’t know. There is really no data out there on how often this happens, but some speculations allege up to 50% divorce rate among Nigerians abroad. If this were true, It means, 5 out of 10 marriages between Nigerians end in divorce. But I suspect the rate of divorce is much lower. On the contrary, divorce rate in Nigeria is about 1% or less, for obvious reasons, some of them mentioned here
Should a guy go on to take his chances? You see, before you take your chances, you should know why marriages among Nigerians abroad fail. Like I mentioned earlier, many marriages in Nigeria will not survive abroad. Why? Because there is domestic violence involved, financial issues which accounts for one of the biggest reasons for divorce, incompatibility, both spouses are not on the same page in their lives (for e.g. wife wants to school first before kids but husband wants kids immediately etc), core values do not align, among others.
These marriages survive in Nigeria because of the economy, the society and community, the culture, the people etc, but abroad, these marriages will fail because there is more freedom, more options to choose from, more equal opportunity and a different lifestyle and culture. For instance, at 30s, ladies abroad consider themselves young and may be focused on their careers first before settling down, so it’s easy to sync into that if you’re a Nigerian. But in Nigeria, ladies in their mid to late 20s are already getting worried about not settling down
Should he settle with another nationality? Everyone’s choice and needs are different. There are Nigerians living in Nigeria who are married to Ghanaians, Cameroonians, even Asians, Americans etc. It depends on what matters to you and who you meet. Some women abroad are ready and willing to learn your culture including language, food and lifestyle, while others are not interested. Think about what matters to you and look for a woman whose values also align with yours
The most important ingredient for a successful marriage is how much your values align with each other. Do you both value companionship and want to be best of friends? Do you both value communication and transparency? Do you both value respect? Are you both committed to making a relationship work? Are you both on the same page with what you want in marriage? These are very important questions you need to answer with your partner. For instance, if you value trust very much but find a partner who lies too much, your marriage is already having challenges before even getting started
Affection, romantic connection, even culture similarities are not enough to sustain a marriage. As you can see, people from same ethnic groups also divorce each other. If your values don’t align, you don’t know each other, and other things come to play like infidelity, my brother, your marriage will not survive abroad. Be careful. Know what matters and who you make long term commitments to. You said it all. |

Romance › Re: My Fiancé Wants To Call It A Quit Because I Don't Relate With His Siblings by Signum(f): 10:36am On Nov 16, 2021 |
Havilaah1: Good day all, i want to pour my heart on what's bothering me and get people's view and possible solutions to the issue.
I've been in a relationship with my boo for a couple of years now and it's a serious relationship, we're are very close.. infact we're practically besties aside relationship. For some months now i noticed he no longer gives me attention like he used to, the vibe between us dropped and it was getting me angry. He stopped doing the things he knows i like, he knows my love language is attention/care as well as complement but he stopped doing all these. I'd send him a photo where i look so beautiful and he'd only say you look good, at a point i started preparing my mind for the worse.
Just yesterday he told me there's something he wants us to talk to me about and it's been bothering him and i asked him what it was, he said it's about us. He said 2 of his siblings asked him same question on different occasions but, he didn't see it as a big deal the first time but when it was asked the second time he got angry and that's the reason he hasn't been flowing well with me.
The question was how can you get married to someone who is not close to your siblings, when he said this i was weak. I know when we started the relationship he told me his siblings are free people i can relate with, i told him i will try. I was in contact with 2 of his sisters before this year( i sometimes chat, text or call during birthdays, new month and festivities).
This year i started chatting with the 3rd sister, her wedding was coming up and she sent me IV. I congratulated her and she asked if i will be around, i told her i will try and create time so i can travel down to attend. I really did travel down to attend the wedding, she was surprised when she saw me but i noticed my boo wasn't happy with me all through the event. Now he's saying he's in close communication with my mum and siblings, they talk all the time but same can not be said about me. He was thinking how can he get married and his siblings will refuse coming to his house because there's no relationship between us.
I'm a very introverted person while himself and his siblings on the other hand are extroverts and ambiverts, i don't find it easy building up ties with people from a distance. I have very few friends, i can be in a place and i won't talk if I'm not used to the people or there's no serious thing to talk about (that's the reason i talk to his siblings during birthdays, new month or festivities). I don't know how to build up a strong relationship with them before marriage, it's even worse because we don't get to see often cos they're in a different state but I've visited them on a few occasions. How do i handle this issue. I was in deep thought all through the night, i couldn't get up to 4 hours sleep.
God knows i love his family as much as i do mine, he himself said he knows i care about them 100% but his family cannot read my mind to see that i have them in mind. After our discussion last night i couldn't sleep, I've been feeling bad about the whole thing. Introversion is making me look like I'm not a good person.
I really don't know how to go about this, please i need advice from people who have been in similar situation. Moderator please help move to front page to get a wider view. Roctation farano Please help move to front page for wider view. If all you said is true, then he's not a serious fellow. Retrace ur steps towards him and find out more about him. If he's not willing to make amends, just dump him and move on.. from what u said, a better guy, who knows ur worth, will come and stay. He should be happy ur introverted sef.. nobe sey you and the siblings dey fight or quarrel oo. Na him go still complain sey you nodey give him time again, but his siblings. |

madridguy: This is a very sensitive issue that requires a very diplomatic approach.
First, your uncle cannot win this battle. Don't underrate a woman and he must not take her threat as a mere one.
The mistake your uncle did was not to study his wife very well when they're still young. I used to tell people, once your wife start exhibiting some characters, the best thing for the man is to start a new family somewhere.
Children are defence for their mother against any enemies, be their father or anyone. So the best time for you to arrange yourself very well is when the woman soldiers " children " are still young. Immediately they matured every woman turn to Aso rock.
I have seen many women planning on how to deal with their husband when old age set for him. By that time the children will be independent so they will just abandon the man and move to any of their son or daughter. You are all wrong! I have seen where this things happen too, and the children were divided. Some realised that their mother doesn't respect their father enough and hence, was against their mother. In this circumstance, the man can win this case 100x over! Let him secure the property documents, consult a good lawyer, sew the ass of his wife to court for divorce and charge her even for threat to life. He can even disown the useless sons if they can't reason well enough. Forget it, the man can win. |

For decades, the anti-choice movement has attempted to brand itself as “pro-life,” but it’s not hard to see through their charade. As “pro-life” Republicans remain focused on criminalizing abortion, it’s not lost on Americans that this isthe exact same Republican party that is hellbent on harming women and families with their regressive policies.
It’s pretty hard to call yourself “pro-life” when you’re actively working to:
Imprison or execute women who access safe abortion care. Tear babies away from their parents and lock them in cages, with no plan to reunite them. Silence doctors and strip reproductive healthcare away from millions of low-income people. Stand by while the maternal mortality rates skyrocket and women—especially Black women—die in childbirth. Deny affordable healthcare coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. Cut programs that feed hungry kids. Block access to HIV testing and treatment across the globe. Incite far-right violence with lies about abortion. Shut the f*ck up! |

chatinent: I am wondering how you got a Quickteller OTP if all you gave him were fake.
Ok ok, let's assume he processed it using your BVN.
Very easy. It could be gotten via a phished site...or some bank officials sold it out. A liaison with a fraudulent banker can empty your accounts. Many fraudsters work with bankers. Lol. Even loan apps sell BVNs. In fact, any agency requiring your BVN sells it. I cross my heart. Lol.
I know of about three other ways to get a BVN without even going to the bank. Lol. So it is not new. Not new. So now imagine if it is in a wrong hands.
A lot of people who even have the BVN don't know how to use it hence they need your credit card details. Lol. Poor thing.
Let me simplify this for you.
If you use online payments regularly, only entering your first four letters could tell if it's Visa, Mastercard, etc...
Using USSD too could unveil a bank name, and holder's name. (I am sure you know that).
On Bank Apps too, it is easy.
There is an app too that does that. It is in dark web and we shouldn't talk about it.
You have to be careful sha.
But that's an old format.
New pro fraudsters tweak your Quick Teller or Transfer accounts that it sends you a mail. When you log in, an OTP is sent to you almost immediately while you are in the app that you wouldn't even suspect it is from another user since you are also responding to the mails with the bank name..the OTP may come in SMS or notification bearing the name too (using bought SMS units)...and boom...your account balance is gone forever. But believe me, you can never track anyone who knows this method. It takes more than mere hacking. This is an expert touch...they'll end up shifting the log details to some other innocent soul..who will definitely be tracked. Many are languishing in prisons for this. Don't worry about this. In a hundred million, only one person fit sabi do this.
Some pro hackers who work with fraudsters also do hack into your balance directly, and shift logs to another vulnerable person! But it is rare to find these sorts! Why? Poor fraudsters cannot afford them. Lol...and that's what most fraudsters are finding. They want to remove the aza-man intermediary thing. Lol.
How do I know all these?
I was a darkweb geek during the days of Wapka.
Moving forward...
• you may need to use a two-way authentication on your accounts! It is very important. Both on your social media and Google accounts.
• Always view the links you click. I see many shared messages on WhatsApp ending with YouthEmpowerment using a URL Shortener urging people to share to their friends for a prize. Lol. Big scam.
• whenever a link claiming to represent sth sends a message, search on Google. It should have a Wikipedia page, go there and view their website link. If it is not the same, it is fraud.
• in Nigeria, only recognised education websites use the .edu.ng and government sites use the .gov.ng . If a site claiming to be of the government says otherwise, it's scam.
• if you ever get confused about a message being scam or not, just post it here on Nairaland and tag me, I will answer.
• be careful of apps you download away from Google Play or Appstore, some can steal your details. Download only recognised official apps on those stores. Not all apps are genuine there tho. Always read reviews (read the critical reviews.. because their team members must always join in posting positive reviews).
• When an unknown number calls you, end the call and run it on TrueCaller. TrueCaller will help you too. His name may shock you.
You are welcome. You are so informed. Thank you. Teach me how to be informed too, pls. |
