explosiveskull: Seconded. I really never liked this awkward ak to start with, I heard it comes with only 30 rounds per magazine. Another thing is that our soldiers to be retrained time from time cos you'll see a soldier mounting roadblock and can be in this road block posting for years and in those years never shot his gun or saw any fire fight, wouldn't them must have forgotten how to aim and shoot accurately. Am of the opinion that in every 6 months depending on your corp to always go for retraining. some bases dey get shooting range... |

Me if I succeed I will marry very late when I know my chances of survival in the army is about 60% cos I wouldn't want to put any woman to an untold hardship peradventure I die early. My brother Guideon Ogboli, rest in the bossom of the almighty, you are a source of hope, inspiration and true selflessness to we that will try to finish your fight. God will grant your family the fortitude to bear your loss. I believe you are in a better place now. im still saying it...people dey commot there..untouched or with scratches..people die.. |

Arisukuni: Lol. I pity you coursemate!
Am sure you were also present during SSC 45 screening, through am not sure you were present at 46. You see if you have any chance get it into DSSC you better embraced it now! And forget this your sweet mouth for SSC! Even strong men wey dey reason SSC since 2017 for course 44 don dey change their mind to go for DSSC now, ask person like ugo4u, remember then as he use to crave for SSC back then. But now he don already see the reality, Army na Army abeg. I remembered vividly during this last course 46 screening, this Brig Gen that is tall and slim like this, I think he was the only one star General on ground then, he is dark, he has small head like this, please people that remember his name should remind me please. That man is a product of NDA, a regular, he said something while we were in the Drill shield, he said if he had know back then he joined NDA as a regular and suffered about 5 years as a Cadet, he would have considered DSSC. He was saying it literally that DSSC now better! Only people that pay attention to details would decode the message he was trying to pass then. Whether you are SSC, DSSC or regular you all are for same purpose which is serving and defending your country. So you all should stop all these mentality of DSSC will not attain some certain rank in the Army before retirement, there are DSSC officers getting to rank of Brig Gen, even some Maj Gen, things are changing fast now and so many things are been politicised. Moreso its not all that will live to witness this General ranks, some lives will be cut short and some will opt out on the long run as a result of lack of passion. No one is a coward or fear of death here. Just advising you not to be ignorant and most importantly USE YOUR HEAD!!!
Cheers! i was there and I heard him say it... plus the brigadier general isn’t an RC... he is SSC I’ve said it here before, I heard him say it in the drill shed..but last last somebody still has to do this job. It’s good you noted that things are changing and we talked about something that might change soon as well... Ugo mentioned something in a chat about the army pulling out all RC from the north east.. Which means the DSSC might be a point for focus now so ideally, what’s stopping a DSSC officer from experiencing the same fate an SSC officer would? |

QuadrilAyinde: (1) THE AK-47 IS MORE USER FRIENDLY, EASIER TO MAINTAIN AND DOESN'T JAM
The AK-47 is an easily operated rifle and it is perfectly suitable for poorly trained or untrained recruits.
The M16 is a different story. It’s design and technology make M-16 a more modern and more advanced weapon than AK-47 but works best in the hands of a well-trained soldier, not really easy to use and maintain as AK-47 and therefore it’s not suitable for recruits and poorly trained soldiers.
(2) THE M16 HAS A DECISIVE ADVANTAGE IN THE MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS RANGE.
The AK-47 assault rifle is chambered in 7.62 mm caliber. Its maximum effective range is limited up to 400 meters. In fact, this weapon is not really meant to shoot at a range of more than 200 meters. Beyond that, it will hardly hit anything.
The M16 weighs half as much with the full magazine than the AK-47. It is because the rifle is chambered with a slimmer 5.56 mm bullet. This bullet travels really fast. As a result, the M16 is more has a longer range and is more accurate than AK-47. Because of that, the M16 has a maximum effective range of 400-500 meters.
(3) THE M16 HAS AN ADVANTAGE IN CALIBER WHICH MAKES IT A MORE ACCURATE WEAPON, BOTH IN SEMI-AUTO AND FULL-AUTO MODE.
When it comes to accuracy, the M16 is a much more accurate weapon than the AK-47. M16 has less recoil and it is a much smoother-operating weapon which means it can be easier controlled during full-auto fire. The recoil of the M16 moves the weapon very little due to its internal design and the 5.56 mm caliber. Also, its buttstock is lined up with the barrel. This feature additionally reduces the muzzle climb.
On the other hand, the AK-47 is much heavier and poorly balanced with a more powerful cartridge. Because of its internal mechanism, the AK-47 recoil is slightly out of the center. Furthermore, internal mechanisms of the AK-47 assault rifle are essentially big chunks of metal that move violently after each shot. Also, this weapon has a traditional position of the buttstock (depends on version, fixed or foldable buttstock). All of these features combined cause muzzle climb after each shot. It makes the AK-47 very inaccurate during full-auto fire.
(4) THE AK-47 IS SUPERIOR IN TERMS OF PENETRATION.
The AK-47 uses a 7.62mm round with a heavier bullet. It’s a bullet that is slower and less accurate. But its share power is indisputable. This weapon is superior in terms of penetration and stopping power.
On the other hand, the M16 uses a lighter 5.56 mm round. It has a slimmer bullet that travels faster. However, the punch of the M16 is not that strong, but as it is mentioned it is faster, more accurate and with better range.
(5) THE M16 IS A LIGHTER WEAPON.
As the US Military required a lightweight weapon, the low weight of the M16 was the driving emphasis of the whole design. The M16 benefits from lightweight materials in its construction. Also, it uses lighter rounds. As a result, the M16 can weigh around 30% less than the AK-47. It is more comfortable to carry around and the shooter can carry more of its ammunition. So lighter weapon is better, especially if you are the guy that has to carry it. It is estimated that if a user of AK-47 carries on 6 mags, the operator with M16 can have 10 mags.
On the other hand, the AK-47 uses little weight saving methods.
(6) THE AK-47 IS A MORE DURABLE WEAPON
The AK-47 is an enduring weapon with a robust design. It can take any misuses that soldier can throw at it. If the battle moves into hand-to-hand combat you can really smack your enemy with the AK-47s buttstock.
On the other hand, a fiberglass buttstock of the M16 is not durable as a wooden buttstock of the AK-47. So low overall weight of the weapon was a trade-off at this point.
(7) THE AK-47 IS A MORE RELIABLE WEAPON
The AK-47 has a malfunction rate of 1 per 1 000 rounds fired.
The M16 has a malfunction rate of 2 per 1 000 rounds fired.
( THE M16 IS SUPERIOR IN TERMS OF ERGONOMICS.
It seems that ergonomics was the last thing that bothered the developer of the AK-47. This weapon is poorly balanced. Also, its controls are not well thought-off and are stiff to operate. It takes more time to change the magazine on the AK-47 than on the M16.
On the other hand, the M16 was intended with ergonomics in mind. All of its controls are well designed, well-positioned and easily used. Also, it has a built-in carrying handle on the top making it easier to carry. The M16 is considered one of the most ergonomic weapons in the world. In terms of ergonomics, it is superior to the AK-47 in most respects.
(9) THE M16 HAS BETTER SIGHTS AND BETTER ACCURACY.
From the design of the sights, it is clear that the M16 was designed to be more accurate from the very start. The American assault rifle has a little ‘peep’ sight on the back that can be flipped for ‘short’ or ‘long’ range. The front post sight is called ‘bunny ears’. Similar sights are used by Americans since World War II.
Sights of the AK-47 are very crude. It is clearly not as good as that of the M16. It has an adjustable notch on the back that can be set to a range of up to 800 meters. However, it is more of a psychological boost for untrained recruits. In reality, the maximum range of effective fire is limited to 300-400 meters. Beyond that, it will hardly hit anything.
(10) THE AK-47 IS THE MUCH CHEAPER RIFLE TO BUILT THAN THE M16.
Although many variants are available for both the rifles, when comparing the base models, the AK-47 is significantly cheaper than M16. The government price of the AK-47 can range from $150 to $200, depending on manufacturer and contract.
The government price of the M16 was $673 per new unit as of the U.S. Army’s 2012 contract.
OVERALL.....
TO SUM IT UP, BOTH M16 AND AK-47 HAVE THEIR OWN STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES. BOTH OF THESE WEAPONS CONTINUE TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR EFFECTIVENESS. AND BOTH OF THESE WEAPONS REMAIN IN DEMAND. THE M-16 HAS TECHNICAL SUPERIORITY IN 3 KEY AREAS, INCLUDING RANGE, ACCURACY, AND WEIGHT.
THE AK-47 HAS A REMARKABLE ADVANTAGE OF SIMPLE AND EASY TO MAINTAIN CONSTRUCTION. SO, I GUESS IT IS A NO-WIN SITUATION. IT DEPENDS ON THE USER, WHAT HE WILL CHOOSE. abeg bro no vex ooo I wan ask you...shey you dey sabi all these things before ni or you dey always copy am from somewhere? |
