Court Okays Zoning But Fails to Stop Jonathan
From Tobi Soniyi in Abuja, 12.01.2010
An Abuja High Court sitting in Maitama has said President Goodluck Jonathan can contest the 2011 presidential election, though it also upheld the zoning arrangement enshrined in Article 7.2 (c) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) constitution.
The court refused to declare that the North was entitled to produce the president by 2011.

The Chief Judge of the Abuja High Court, Justice Lawal Gummi, while delivering judgment in a suit filed by a member of the party, Dutsinma, yesterday held that when a party had made a constitution for itself, it must comply with the provisions of its constitution.
He, however, said it was within the party's discretion to decide how its zoning arrangement would be implemented.
According to the judge, Article 7.2 (c) of the first defendant’s constitution (PDP) 2009 as amended recognizes the principle of zoning and rotation of party and public elective offices.

He said: “The said article is subsisting and binding on the party, its organs and members. But I am unable to make a declaration that the North is entitled to bear the presidential ticket of the first defendant for two consecutive terms 2007 and 2011 respectively as the South did in 1999 and 2003, same being a political question and therefore not justifiable.”
Justice Gummi also declined to make a declaration that PDP would be in breach of its constitution if it sponsored a Southern presidential aspirant when the North had not exhausted its two consecutive terms.
Justice Gummi further said: “Though Article 7.2 (c) recognizes zoning and rotation. It is an internal matter for the party to determine and decide how and where the zoning should be done."
He also said that compelling a political party to sponsor a candidate from a particular zone was obviously an act of delving into the internal affairs of the party.

On this note Justice Gummi endorsed the general principle that the court should respect the independence of parties in matters that were strictly the internal affairs of the party.
The court also said that if a party’s constitution made a provision as to how its affairs should be run, it must be run in that direction.
He said the court was duty bound to ensure that the party complied with its constitutional requirements.
In this instance, Justice Gummi said the PDP constitution recognized zoning and rotation even though it had not proved how it should be carried out among members of the party.

The court also held that for it to therefore give an order that only candidates from a particular zone should be sponsored where the constitution of the PDP had not so defined would amount to an invitation for the court to delve into internal affairs of the party.
The plaintiff, Dutsinma, had brought the suit via an originating summons asking the court for a declaration that Article 7.2(c) of the first defendant's constitution 2009 as amended was subsisting and binding on the party, its organs and members.
He also asked for a declaration that the North was entitled to bear the presidential ticket of the first defendant for two consecutive terms 2007 and 2011 respectively as the South did in 1999 and 2003.

He asked for an order compelling PDP, its organs and members to respect the provision of Article 7.2 (c) of the party's constitution as amended by sponsoring a Northern presidential aspirant in the 2011 presidential election.
In its defence, PDP said it did not zone the presidency to the North for two consecutive terms.
In a counter-affidavit filed by the party to the suit, PDP said that the fact that it zoned the presidency to the North in 2007 did not mean that it would zone it to the same region for 2011.
In an eight-paragraph counter-affidavit to the originating summons, PDP also said it had not singled out any aspirant for encouragement, let alone adopt any aspirant from any part of Nigeria to vie for the office of the president of Nigeria under its platform.

The party said its constitution never specified that any zone would serve for two consecutive terms and as such, asked the court to discountenance the plaintiff’s statement claiming that a zone was entitled to two terms.
The affidavit, which was sworn to by a lawyer in the employment of the party, Mr. Owukori Akuyibo, who said he had the authority of the party's Legal Adviser, Chief Olusola Oke, to depose to the affidavit read: “It is not correct to state that the presidential flag bearer of the 1st defendant (PDP) for the 2011 election is zoned to the Northern Nigeria as the 1st defendant has decided that its members from all parts of Nigeria are free to apply to fly the 1st defendant’s flag."

benimeogu:
Atiku promises to reduce company tax because he is representing the interest of corporate organisations and corrupt politicians. He is not interested in the welfare of poor and middle class Nigerians. He has no agenda for the poor, the students and the middle class. His is running to give more money to the rich and less money to the poor. He is against the recent increase of 10 years ban on used cars because he and his group does not want middle class Nigerians to own a means transportation.
President Goodluck is the only person who knows what it means to be a student in Nigeria, he know what it means to be a civil servant in Nigeria, he know what it means to be poor because he came from a poor background. Please let us give him a chance to change the life of an ordinary Nigerian. Atiku and Babagida have no know of what it means to be a poor Nigerian. They are born with Golden spoon and have been in government stealing all their life.
Your types are just not qualified to post anything here. I f i understand you amongst !50 million Nigerians GEJ is the only qualified person to rule this country? nonsense! Have you read the background of Atiku? if coming from the poor background qualifies one to be a good leader, Atiku would have been more than qualified not GEJ. I guess you dont even know what you re talking about, so no need to ask further questions because that will only confuse you the more.

’d Reduce Company Income Tax to 10%, Says Atiku
From Ayodele Aminu in London, 11.30.2010
If elected president in 2011, former Vice-President and consensus candidate of the Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF) in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has promised to reduce company income tax from the current 30 per cent to 10 per cent and provide incentives for firms to compete globally.

Speaking yesterday at the Hult International Business School in the University of London, London, he said his administration would create the enabling environment for international private capital to flow and stay.

The presidential aspirant, who spoke on “Emerging Markets Post 2008: Preparing Africa and Nigeria for the New World,” said he would assemble a formidable crack economic team and give them all the necessary political support to succeed.

Atiku was accompanied to the event by the immediate past governor of the Central Bank, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

Specifically, he said his administration would ensure a double digit growth of the economy, with millions of high-paying jobs.
Besides, he promised to effect efficiency in the ports by making sure that importers can clear their goods within 48 hours.

“As a former senior official in the Customs Service, I am concerned about the inefficient ports and customs clearance system. My target is to embark on a revolution of the sector and ensure that after one year of reforms, importers will be able to clear customs in no more than 48 hours.

“We shall embark on a revolution in the agricultural sector by mainstreaming large scale commercial agriculture,” he said.
He said the target of his administration would be to significantly improve Nigeria’s rating on the “Ease of Doing Business Report”, and make Nigeria one of the preferred destinations for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the world.

“Nigeria and Africa,” he said, “can provide some of the highest rates of returns on investment and we must exploit this.”
The former vice-president said his government would insist on the full implementation of the Financial System Strategy 2020 (FSS 2020), especially as they pertain to tighter regulation and supervision of the financial system, development of a robust mortgage system and consumer credit, commercial courts, and mainstreaming of insurance.

“We shall lay the foundation for Nigeria to become Africa’s financial hub. Infrastructure development, especially electricity and transport system will be of high priority,” he said.
The presidential aspirant emphasised the need for Nigeria and Africa to embark on deeper reforms, which he described as critical.

He said: “Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country and potentially its largest economy. If Nigeria does not succeed economically, it will be difficult for aggregate Sub-Saharan Africa to make it.
“Despite nearly three decades of reforms since the structural adjustment programmes (SAP), African economies remain undiversified with dependence on highly volatile primary commodities and aid.

“My goal, if the good people of Nigeria employ me as their president next year, will be to lay a solid foundation for Nigeria and Africa to be weaned of this precarious dependence and vulnerability.

“We would seek to deepen regional integration and diversify national economies to be globally competitive. In essence, my objective is to prepare the economies and ensure that they can withstand future crisis.”

He noted that as vice-president of Nigeria, he was the chairman of the National Planning Commission, chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) and chairman of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP), stressing that these provided him the platforms to overview and oversee the general economic policies and programmes of government.
“I hope to build upon my experiences over those eight years as vice-president to take economic and institutional reforms to the next higher level.

“For a start, I understand the importance of critical skills in economic management. As vice-president, I helped to assemble what has remained Nigeria’s best economic team ever.

“As president, we will seek to re-invent government by fundamentally reconstructing our public finance on a path of sustainability, rationalise public sector institutions, and curtail the profligacy that currently adorns public expenditure,” he said.
The focus of his administration, he said, would be a private sector-led and competitive economy.

He said he would seek to deploy the bulk of public resources to build capacity for the private sector to boom.
“Of course, our education and health sectors are key priority areas. We have developed the building blocks to fight corruption and money laundering, and we will give the institutions the necessary support to succeed.
“Safety of life and property is a major concern, and we shall fight tirelessly to reduce crimes and criminality to the barest minimum.

“Externally, Nigeria under my leadership will champion the acceleration of regional integration in Africa. We shall critically evaluate the European Union’s Economic Partnership for Africa (EPA) with a view to taking a position.
“As responsible members of the international community, Nigeria will push for the conclusion of the Millennium Development Round under the WTO,” he said.

In addition, he said Nigeria would work hard with other emerging markets to push for the full implementation of the various accepted proposals for reforming the global financial and monetary architecture.

This, he said, would be the surest way to ensure that progress made at home will endure, and not be wiped off by the next crisis.
Commenting on the global economy, which has gone through the worst financial crisis in the last six decades, he said the world had all it takes to prepare to proactively pre-empt any such potential crisis and deal with it.
He stressed that only an effective global coordination system could stabilise the future.
Christianity EtcRe: 10 Reasons Islam Is Not From God by silami(op): 5:46am On Dec 01, 2010
You guys believe falsehood and i mange to bring up 7 of them. But these claims are not true even though all these claims are Orthodox Islam. These 7 claims are listed here:

1 The Koran is Allah’s infallible word replacing the Bible, which is now corrupted and is unreliable.
2 Allah is the only god there is: there is no Trinity (God the Father, The Holy Spirit and The Son).
3 Muhammad is Allah’s final and perfect Prophet.
4 Jesus is a Muslim Prophet. He is not God and not “The Savior”
5 The Temple Mount and Jerusalem is the property of Allah, not the Jews.
6 Islam is a religion of love and perfection.
7 Islam is a religion of peace and justice. huh shocked

Islam, also, has the hope of a messiah returning to this world to set up a worldwide Islamic Empire. This Muslim Messiah (The Mahdi) will cause all humans to worship Allah, and will rule the world in justice and equity. Their “Jesus” will be lower then the Mahdi and will help the Mahdi setup the Islamic Empire. The Mahdi will come to the earth during a major war; this is why the present Iran leadership wants to start a nuclear exchange: it will bring in the Muslim Messiah.

So, for Iran, it’s a win/win situation: whoever starts the nuclear exchange, their Messiah will come in the thick of it to defend Iran and destroy Iran’s enemies. This is why Iran (Ahmadinejad) doesn’t give a fig about how the rest of the world looks on their nuclear goals.
PoliticsSenate: Sanusi, Aganga’s Statements Treasonable by silami(op): 5:28am On Dec 01, 2010
Senate: Sanusi, Aganga’s Statements Treasonable
•House summons FG officials •Total recurrent expenditure hits N2trn
From Kunle Akogun, Onwuka Nzeshi and James Emejo in Abuja, 11.30.2010
Tempers rose on the floor of the Senate yesterday as senators after senators stood up in vehement condemnation of the statements credited to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and Finance Minister Olusegun Aganga that federal lawmakers are crippling the country's economy with their outrageous pay packets.

The senators likened what they considered an attack on the federal legislature by members of the Executive arm of government to treason and “an attempt to arrest democracy”.

Sanusi had alleged last weekend that 25 per cent of the nation's total recurrent expenditure is spent on the lawmakers' upkeep, while Aganga was reported to have said on Monday that the Federal Government was considering slashing the National Assembly vote.

At the end of the heated debate which was the only business undertaken by the senators having stood down other items on the order paper, the Senate resolved to summon the minister and the CBN governor to appear before four of its committees today to clarify their statements on outrageous budget allocations to the National Assembly.

Also irked by the statements, the House of Representatives has formally summoned Aganga and Sanusi to appear before it.
The two principal managers of the national economy are expected to appear before the House in plenary to confirm the veracity of their claims that the National Assembly gulps 25 per cent of the recurrent expenditure of the country.

Meanwhile, official figures released by the Federal Government showed that its total recurrent spending this year has risen above N2 trillion.

It also emerged that only about N351.59 billion out of the N749.74 billion cashed back for projects included in the 2010 budget has been utilized by ministries, departments and agencies of government (MDAs).

Also to appear along with the duo before the Senate committees is the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Mrs. Amina Azubair, who is expected to put the records straight about the award of MDG projects, which the senators said had been erroneously placed on the shoulders of the lawmakers.

Contributing to a motion on urgent public importance raised by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (PDP, Cross River), majority of the senators described the statements made by the two officials as a deliberate distortion of facts to bring the National Assembly into disrepute.

While the senators were unanimous on the need to summon the federal officials, there was, however, a division on whether they should appear before the relevant standing committees, those on Appropriation, Banking, Finance and MDGs, or before the plenary.

Presenting the motion, Ndoma-Egba noted that the allegation credited to the CBN governor that the National Assembly gulps 25 per cent of the national budget was false and misleading.
He said it was a calculated attempt to bring the National Assembly to disrepute.

Senator Bode Olajumoke, in his contribution, lamented that the false information published in the Nigerian media was always relayed and reviewed by international media, saying this had gone a long way to damage the integrity of members of the National Assembly, portraying them as “rogues”.

In his contribution, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu blamed the misinformation on ignorance on the part of those who should be aware of the facts.

Senator Patrick Osakwe (PDP, Delta) described the allegation as an issue of “calling a dog a bad name in order to hang it”.
He said Sanusi and Aganga should appear before the Senate to state the sources of their information, adding that the Senate and the National Assembly should no longer take such false allegations lightly in the future.

Senator Dahiru Umar informed his colleagues that the presentation of the news on BBC Hausa Service was severe and damaging, as some commentators called for the military to sack members of the National Assembly.
On his part, Senator Anthony Manzo said the Senate should not hesitate to sack the CBN governor if there were reasons to do so, since it has power to do so with two-thirds majority.

According to him, a situation where those who were screened and approved by the Senate were always turning round to attack it should no longer be tolerated.

Senate Spokesman, Senator Ayogu Eze, said the repeated publication of falsehood against the National Assembly was becoming embarrassing to the families of lawmakers.
He said the allegation amounted to treason, as it was calculated to bring down the National Assembly, which is the symbol of democracy.

Senate President David Mark said no lawmaker was involved in contract awards, stressing that the continued attack on members of the National Assembly would no longer be acceptable.
He said: “We have said this over and over, and yet they still keep repeating it. Once they hear it, they jump at it. I think we need to invite them to explain to us on live television.”

Chairman, House Committee on Air Force, Hon. John Halims Agoda, paved the way for the decision to summon Aganga and Sanusi when he moved a motion expressing concern that the utterances of Sanusi had denigrated the National Assembly and brought the lawmakers to ridicule in the minds of the public.

Agoda said the allegations made by the CBN governor could not be substantiated both on the grounds of budgetary facts and moral inclinations of the National Assembly towards the total regeneration of the Nigerian society.

He argued that the utterances could not be swept under the carpet considering the weight of the allegations and the damage they portend for the institutional image of the National Assembly.

According to Agoda, “there are grave implications for the electoral values of members who have now been cast in the image of rapacious financial scavengers of the national treasury.”
The motion was unanimously adopted with several lawmakers initially demanding the resignation of the CBN governor, while the moderates among them said they should be invited to enable the House to do a forensic analysis of their allegations.

The House resolved among other things to henceforth scrutinise the budgets of about 31 MDAs including the CBN to ensure that there were no leakages.
The N4.6 trillion 2010 budget has a capital vote of N1.7 trillion or 30 per cent of the appropriation.
The record, however, showed a sharp rise in personnel cost from N966.742 billion in 2009 to N1.1 trillion in September 2010, while overhead was estimated at N633.128 billion in 2010.

Inspection fees gulped N45.141 billion, while external debt was put at $0.462 billion by September 2010.
The 2010 utilization rate of 46.9 per cent is considered unimpressive by experts when compared to the N913.36 billion put forward in last fiscal regime.

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwaabo, told journalists at the 2009/2010 score card on the activities of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) briefing in Abuja yesterday that the low utilisation might have been caused by delays in the release of the funds to the MDAs.

He said he was hopeful that the capital budget performance would show remarkable improvements before the end of the year.
He also tied the low utilisation to the political crisis occasioned by the poor health of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
The accountant-general also disclosed that the total statutory disbursement to the federal, state and local governments between 2009 and September 2010 stood at over N5.5 trillion.

This, he said, was in addition to Value Added Tax (VAT) of about N865.09 billion distributed in the period under review.
He said: “The sum of N1.19 trillion was cash backed in year 2009 of which N913.26 billion or 76.6 per cent was utilized. For 2010, the sum of N749.74 billion was cash backed of which N351.59 billion was utilized as at 30th October 2010. This translates to a capital performance of 46.9 per cent.”

He said statutory allocation amounting to N2.7 trillion had so far been released between January and September 2010.
“This year is a special one in the sense that we encountered some challenges. We had a new president; the Federal Executive Council was reconstituted. But it is not too bad that we have that type of utilization rate considering the political challenges that we had,” he said.

MD Yusufu: Jonathan’s Ambition is Like Coup
•PDP should not return in 2011, says Shekarau
From Sheriff Balogun in Abeokuta and Ibrahim Shuaibu in Kano, 11.28.2010
Former Inspector-General of Police (IG), Alhaji Mohammed Dikko Yusufu, has said the plan by President Goodluck Jonathan to contest for the office of president in next year’s election and, if he wins, succeed himself in 2011 is akin to planning a coup against his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Yusufu spoke yesterday in Abeokuta when he gave the second annual lecture in honour of the late Sobo Sowemimo (SAN) entitled: “Crises of Governance in Nigeria”. It was organised by the Abeokuta Club.
Yusufu said: “We have a president who is trying to self-succeed himself through a process which amounts to a political coup in his own political party.”

According to him, “I have not talked much about the zoning system of PDP, which under normal circumstances remains its affair but for the fact that the crisis of the party has become a national problem because of the political dominance of the PDP in Nigerian politics.

“In a democracy, nobody should think that he or she has to be president or there will be no Nigeria. I have to make this point because a minister had warned if Dr. Goodluck Jonathan does not emerge as president, there will be crisis in Nigeria. So, if this is the case, what is the point of conducting elections?”

Yusufu, former presidential candidate of the defunct Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM), also said Jonathan's determination to contest the 2011 poll might be at variance with his promise to conduct an election where every vote would count when viewed against the backdrop of statements allegedly made by the minister.

“We can illustrate the crises of governance by just looking at our experience since the restoration of civilian rule in 1999. In that year, we elected a president who had experience of governance under the military; he presided over the transition to civil rule after 13 years of military dictatorship and led perhaps the most purposeful and progressive government in Nigeria from 1976 – 1979,” the former IG said.

He added that, “of course, everyone here knows that this person is my good friend, General and now Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. During his administration, 1999 – 2007, the revenue of the federation of Nigeria was a whooping N27.7 trillion. This amount of money is more than 80 per cent of Nigeria’s federally collected revenue from 1970 - 2007 (1999).”

He, however, drew the attention of Nigerians to the parlous state of federal roads across the country and juxtaposed that with the N200 billion the Federal Government under President Obasanjo claimed to have invested on road rehabilitation and construction between 1999 and 2002 and concluded that Nigerians were worst off in terms of having motorable roads.

“I do not need to tell any of you seated here that after this massive public expenditure, the conditions of Nigerian roads remained virtually as they were before 1999, or even worse in some cases. The report of the Auditor – General of the Federation, Mr. P.N. Akubueze, for the year ended 31st December 2001, confirmed this situation for most of the roads, including the Benin – Sagamu carriage way and the dualization of Ile – Ife – Ilesa roads,” he said.

Speaking further, he said there was no aspect of the country’s life where the crises of governance was clearly manifested as in the power sector, which he said had been left prostrate and ineffective by wide scale corruption of all sorts as to warrant the House of Representatives to initiate a probe into power expenditure without result between June 1999 and May 2007.

He said despite the fact that the House Committee on Power and Steel established cases of corruption and avoidable massive spending in the sector with Nigerians not having regular supply of light till date; nothing has been done to sanction the government officials who short-changed the nation over the power project.

“What is most interesting to me about the sordid acts of these government officials with regards to the roads and power sector’s scam between 1999 and 2007 is the fact that they were done despite the due process regime, which was introduced to make the award of contracts transparent, by a government which had established the EFCC supposedly to fight corruption,” he added.

Meanwhile, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential aspirant and Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau has said no matter who wins the PDP presidential ticket between President Jonathan and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, what should be paramount to Nigerians is that PDP should not return in 2011.

A statement by the Director-General of the Shekarau for Nigeria Campaign team, Alhaji Khaleel Bolaji, in Kano weekend also said the issue of picking a consensus candidate for the North had generated so much heat in the polity but that Nigerians should note that it was an internal affair of PDP.

The statement read: “The effect that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar shall be the Northern consensus candidate to challenge President Goodluck Jonathan in the PDP primaries for the 2011 Presidential Elections, has continued to generate interest among Nigerians. And we at the Shekarau for Nigeria Campaign Secretariat wish to state clearly that Nigerians must not be confused: the PDP is PDP, whether Jonathan or Atiku.

“Nigerians should recognize that, whether Atiku or President Jonathan ultimately becomes the candidate of the ruling PDP, it will still be PDP, a party that has ruled this country for almost 12 years with nothing to show apart from inconsistency. They started with a National Economic Empowerment and Develop-ment Strategy (NEEDS); then it became Vision 20:2020; and then it was Seven-Point Agenda. Today there is no agenda, but we continue to wallow in darkness, insecurity and poverty.”
As such, Shekarau said PDP should not be returned in 2011.

According to the statement, “Nigeria needs qualitative leaders. Citizens of a given nation cannot manifest a higher degree of discipline than their leaders. We need leaders who are honest, incorruptible, trustworthy, modest, reliable, courageous, competent, fearless and God-conscious and PDP has not provided Nigeria that type of leaders.”

10 Reasons Islam Is Not From God

Reason #1:

Islam cannot be from God because the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, did not pass God's first test for a prophet. Deuteronomy 18:21-22 tells us that God will authenticate those He sends as a prophet by having them perform signs. Muhammad gave no sign as required by God.

(Deuteronomy 18:21,22, NAS95) 21 "You may say in your heart, ‘How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’ 22 "When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
Muslims recognize this and try to overcome the principle of God confirming his revelation with signs by asserting that the revelation of the Qur’an itself is a sign. When Muhammad was challenged by the Jews and Christians to produce a sign, he received a special revelation from Allah.

Qur'an 6:37-39, 36. And they said: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" Say: "Allâh is certainly Able to send down a sign, but most of them know not." 38. There is not a moving (living) creature on earth, nor a bird that flies with its two wings, but are communitie like you. We have neglected nothing in the Book, then unto their Lord they (all) shall be gathered. 39. Those who reject Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) are deaf and dumb in darkness. Allâh sends astray whom He wills and He guides on the Straight Path whom He wills.
Muslims claim that the Qur'an itself is the sign God gave Muhammad.

Notice the difference in the Muslim claims and the evidence put forward by the Hebrew writer in Hebrews 2:3-4,

"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?"

Reason #2:

Islam cannot be from God because Muhammad's teaching does not pass the second test God gave for a prophet. Deuteronomy 13:1-4 tells us that no prophet will bring a revelation that is in conflict with previous revelation. His revelation must agree with the previous revelation of God. Deuteronomy 13:1-4

Deuteronomy 13:1-4, 1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
Muhammad’s revelation contradicts the previous revelations in both facts and principles. Consider the account of Joseph. In the Qur’an, Qur’an 12, Yusuf Beginning in Ayah 21.

Qur’an 12:21-34, 21. And the Egyptian who bought him said to his wife: Give him an honorable abode, maybe he will be useful to us, or we may adopt him as a son. And thus did We establish Yusuf in the land and that We might teach him the interpretation of sayings; and Allah is the master of His affair, but most people do not know. 22. And when he had attained his maturity, We gave him wisdom and knowledge: and thus do We reward those who do good. 23. And she in whose house he was sought to make himself yield (to her), and she made fast the doors and said: Come forward. He said: I seek Allah's refuge, surely my Lord made good my abode: Surely the unjust do not prosper. 24. And certainly she made for him, and he would have made for her, were it not that he had seen the manifest evidence of his Lord; thus (it was) that We might turn away from him evil and indecency, surely he was one of Our sincere servants. 25. And they both hastened to the door, and she rent his shirt from behind and they met her husband at the door. She said: What is the punishment of him who intends evil to your wife except imprisonment or a painful chastisement? 26. He said: She sought to make me yield (to her); and a witness of her own family bore witness: If his shirt is rent from front, she speaks the truth and he is one of the liars: 27. And if his shirt is rent from behind, she tells a lie and he is one of the truthful. 28. So when he saw his shirt rent from behind, he said: Surely it is a guile of you women; surely your guile is great: 29. O Yusuf! turn aside from this; and (O my wife)! ask forgiveness for your fault, surely you are one of the wrong-doers. 30. And women in the city said: The chiefs wife seeks her slave to yield himself (to her), surely he has affected her deeply with (his) love; most surely we see her in manifest error. 31. So when she heard of their sly talk she sent for them and prepared for them a repast, and gave each of them a knife, and said (to Yusuf): Come forth to them. So when they saw him, they deemed him great, and cut their hands (in amazement), and said: Remote is Allah (from imperfection); this is not a mortal; this is but a noble angel. 32. She said: This is he with respect to whom you blamed me, and certainly I sought his yielding himself (to me), but he abstained, and if he does not do what I bid him, he shall certainly be imprisoned, and he shall certainly be of those who are in a state of ignominy. 33. He said: My Lord! the prison house is dearer to me than that to which they invite me; and if Thou turn not away their device from me, I will yearn towards them and become (one) of the ignorant. 34. Thereupon his Lord accepted his prayer and turned away their guile from him; surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
Now consider the same account from the Bible in Genesis 39:7-21

(Genesis 39:7-21, KJV) 7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. 8 But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? 10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. 11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. 13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth, 14 That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice: 15 And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out. 16 And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home. 17 And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me: 18 And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out. 19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled. 20 And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
Consider the differences in the facts presented about the lives of the Biblical characters. In the Qur’an Potiphar was at the door when Joseph fled. He wasn’t at home in the Bible Account. In the Qur’an, Potiphar believed Joseph while in the Bible Potiphar believed his wife. In the Qur’an, Joseph requested that he be put in prison so that he might avoid the temptation of women and in the Bible, he was imprisoned by Potiphar for accosting his wife. Surely it is easy to see the differences. Joseph is just a sample. There are other contradictions in almost every account of the lives of Bible people. In the Qur’an, one of Noah’s sons died in the flood while in the Bible, all of them were on the ark. Compare the Biblical account of Lot with the Qur’an’s account of Lot (Lut in the Qur’an-NR). In the Qur’an, Abraham’s father was an idolater and forced Abraham to leave home for trying to teach monotheism, while the Biblical account has Abraham leaving after his father’s death.

Now consider just one principle that is set forth in the New Testament with the principles set forth in the Qur’an.

The New Testament, Matthew 5:44, But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
The Qur’an, Qur’an 61, the Ranks, Ayah 4. Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way in ranks as if they were a firm and compact wall
The Qur’an, Qur’an 2, The Cow, Al Baqarah Ayah 190. And fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits. 191. And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.
What a contrast. Jesus says to love, forgive, and pray for your enemies. The Qur’an says to kill them. If that isn’t a different doctrine than what was revealed, nothing is.

Reason #3:

Islam cannot be from God because it denies the Godhood of Jesus. In the Qur’an, Muhammad takes great pains to deny the deity of Jesus. It demeans Jesus and makes him just a man. In Philippians, Paul asserts that Jesus existed in the form of God.

Qur'an 4:171 "O people of the book! Commit no excesses in your religion: nor say of God naught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) an apostle of God, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: So believe in God and His messengers, "
(Philippians 2:5-9, NAS95) 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,

Reason #4:

Islam cannot be from God because Muhammad frequently changed his revelations to suit circumstances. The classic example is Muhammad’s teaching on drinking. When he was just beginning to teach, before Muhammad gained a significant following he said that it was alright to drink.

Qur’an 2:219 They ask you Concerning wine; gambling, Say "In them is great sin, And some profit for men; But the sin is greater Than the profit.
As his power base grew, he presented a stronger position. It was not acceptable to have had any intoxicants close enough to prayers to fog the mind.

Qur’an 4:43 O you who believe! Approach not prayer With a mind befogged, Until you can understand All that you say.
When his position was strongly established, he forbade the use of intoxicants entirely.

Qur’an 5:93 O you who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (Dedication) of stones, And (divination by) arrows, Are an abomination, - Of Satan’ handiwork: Eschew such (abomination) That you may prosper. 94. Satan’s plan is (but) To excite enmity and hatred Between you, with intoxicants And gambling, and hinder you From the remembrance Of Allah, and from prayer: Will you not then abstain?
His final revelation calls the use of intoxicants "Satan’s handiwork." This puts him in the awkward position of having had Allah approve of "Satan’s Handiwork’ when he said that there was "some profit for men" in the use of intoxicants.

Does God vacillate on sin?

Reason #5:

Islam cannot be from God because its appeal is to man's lower nature rather than his higher nature. Compare the Biblical appeal of heaven to the Quranic appeal of heaven.

The Biblical Appeal

Matthew 5:10-12, 10. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Peter 1:3-4, 3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
Mark 12:24-25, 24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? 25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
Revelation 7:9-17, 9. After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. 11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, 12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. 13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. 17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
The Qur'an makes a large portion of its appeal to the fleshly appetites and sensibilities of man.

Qur’an 37: 40. But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah, 41. For them is a Sustenance Determined, 42. Fruits (Delights) and they (Shall enjoy) honor and dignity, 43. In Gardens of Felicity, 44. Facing each other On Thrones (of dignity): 45. Round will be passed To them a Cup From a clear flowing fountain, 46. Crystal white, of a taste Delicious to those Who drink (thereof), 47. Free from headiness; Nor will they suffer Intoxication there from. 48. And beside them will be Chaste women, restraining Their glances, with big eyes (Of wonder and beauty) 49. As if they were (Delicate) eggs closely guarded.
Qur’an 4:57. But those who believe And do deeds of righteousness, We shall soon admit to Gardens, With rivers flowing beneath, - Their eternal home; Therein shall they have Companions [wives, NR] pure and holy; We shall admit them To shades, cool and ever deepening.
Qur’an 44:51. As to the Righteous (They will be) in A position of Security, 52. Among Gardens and Springs; 53. Dressed in fine silk And in rich brocade, They will face each other; 54. So; and We shall Join them to Companions With beautiful big And lustrous eyes. 55. There can they call For every kind of fruit In peace and security; 56. Nor will they there Taste Death, except the first Death: and He will preserve Them from the Penalty Of the Blazing Fire.
Which makes its appeal to the higher nature of man? The Bible does.

Which is more likely to be from God - that which appeals to man’s higher nature, or that which appeals to his baser nature? The Bible is more likely to be from God than the Qur'an because its appeal is to man’s higher nature, while the appeal of the Qur'an is to man’s lower nature.

Reason #6:

Islam cannot be from God because its morality is inferior to the morality taught by the New Testament. In examining the contradictions between the Bible and the Qur’an, we encountered Jesus’ teaching that we were to love and pray for our enemies while the Qur’an says to fight and kill your enemies. There is a tremendous gap in the standard of morality between the two standards. Which is more likely to be from God, the high standard of morality, or the low standard of morality?

Reason #7:

Islam cannot be from God because it is based upon a document, the Qur'an, made after God said revelation was finished.

Paul said that revelation would come to an end: 1 Corinthians 13:8, Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Jude 3 tells us that the faith was fully delivered: Jude 3, Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Peter said that every thing that was necessary for man to be pleasing to God had been revealed.

2 Peter 1:3, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Reason #8:

Islam cannot be from God because it is based upon the Qur'an which has internal contradictions. Any revelation from God will be consistent within itself. It will not contain internal contradictions. Since the Qur’an does contain internal contradictions, it cannot be from God, and any religion that is based upon it is not from God.

The Qur’an says that man was created from a clot of blood.

Qur'an 96:1. Proclaim (or Read) In the Name Of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 2. Created man out of A (mere) clot Of congealed blood;
The Qur’an says that man was created from was created from clay.

Qur’an 6:2 (Also 7:12) 2. He it is Who created You from clay, and then Decreed a stated term (For you). And there is In His Presence another Determined term; yet Ye doubt within yourselves!
The Qur’an says that man was created from was created from water.

Qur’an 25:54. It is He Who has Created man from water: Then has He established Relationships of lineage And marriage: for thy Lord Has power (over all things).
These are internal contradictions that indicate the origin of the Qur’an was not the mind of God, but the mind of man, Muhammad.

Reason #9:

Islam cannot be from God because the Qur'an frequently contradicts the Bible.

The Qur’an advocates the beating of wives who are perceived to be misbehaving.

Qur'an - 4:34 Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allâh has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allâh and to their husbands), and guard in the husband's absence what Allâh orders them to guard (e.g. their chastity, their husband's property, etc.). As to those women on whose part you see ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful), but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allâh is Ever Most High, Most Great.
The Bible teaches that man is to love his wife and treat her as his own body.

Ephesians 5:25-29, 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Surely God will not change his mind about such a significant principle in husband and wife relationships. The Quranic ideal is contrary to the teaching of the New Testament.

Reason #10:

Islam cannot be from God because it denies the crucifixion of Jesus.

The central figure of the New Testament is Jesus. From his temptations in the desert to the resurrection, the focus of Jesus is his death on the cross to provide a sacrifice for mankind’s sin. The Qur’an denies that Jesus died on the cross and that would then preclude his resurrection. It is the contention of Islam that God took Jesus into heaven and transformed Judas to look like Jesus. The teach that it was actually Judas who died on the cross.
Qur'an 4:157. That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus The son of Mary, The apostle of Allah"; But they killed him not, Nor crucified him, But so it was made To appear to them, And those who differ Therein are full of doubts, With no (certain) knowledge, But only conjecture to follow, For of a surety, They killed him not.
The Bible clearly and plainly teaches that Jesus was crucified on the cross.

Matthew 27:35, 35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
1 Corinthians 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
Christianity EtcRe: Top 10 Reasons Why Jesus Christ Is Not God by silami(m): 10:55pm On Nov 28, 2010
So far, I've been able to find 10 such passages proving the deity of Jesus Christ. These may grow, as the Lord reveals other passages to me. These are the 10 reasons why Jesus is God.

Sin-Forgiving God (Mark 2:5-7; Matthew 9:2)
In Mark 2:5-7, we see a story of a man with palsy, whom Jesus told his sins were forgiven. But the scribes had a problem with that statement because they thought that Jesus blasphemed. They knew that when Jesus made the statement, "Son your sins are forgiven you," He was saying in essence that He was God. In fact, they said:

Well, the scribes are right. Only God can forgive sins - in the real sense of the word. Jesus would have to be God to make such a statement. In fact, I believe He said that to subtly declare His deity.
When you really think about it, we can only sin against God. Even though we often use the phrase "I forgive you" flippantly when someone does something against us, in the real sense of the word, we have no power to forgive sins. When someone does something against us, the person offends us, not sin against us. But the person sins against God. We can only sin against God because He alone has the power to forgive sins.

For instance, in Genesis 39 when Potiphar's wife tried to convince Joseph to sleep with her, Joseph said to her:

So how could I commit this great badness and actually sin against God?" Genesis 39:9
Notice that Joseph said he would sin against God, not Potiphar, his boss, if he slept with Potiphar's wife. Why? Because he knew he could only sin against God, not man. He could offend man, but only sin against God. Likewise, King David in Psalm 51, which he wrote after he slept with Bathsheba (Uriah's wife), wrote regarding God,

Against you (God), you alone, I have sinned,

And what is bad in your eyes I have done,

In order that you may prove to be righteous when you speak,

That you may be in the clear when you judge.

So, Jesus' ability to forgive sin speaks to His deity. As the scribes rightly asked rhetorically in Mark 2:7, "who can forgive sins, except one, God?"

A Worship-Worthy God (Revelation 1:12-17)
There are several instances in the Bible where whenever someone tried to worship an angel, the angel would stop the person from worshipping him. For instance, in Revelation 19:1-10, when John, the Revelator, tried to worship an angel, the angel prevented him from doing so, saying that he was just a servant like John, but that only God should be worshipped.

:
At that I fell down before his feet to worship him. But he tells me: "Be careful! Do not do that! All I am is a fellow slave of you and of your brothers who have the work of witnessing to Jesus. Worship God; for the bearing witness to Jesus is what inspires prophesying." - Revelation 19:10

But in Revelation 1:12-17, when John saw Jesus he bowed to worship Him, but Jesus didn't stop him from worshipping Him. Because He is God and worthy to be worshiped.

And when I saw him, I fell as dead at his feet. And he laid his right hand upon me and said: "Do not be fearful. I am the First and the Last, - Revelation 1:17

Well, if Jesus Christ is the first of God's creations, it means that the rest of mankind is equal to Jesus. If not, it would mean that one's older sibling is superior to one just by virtue of being older.
So, if it means that the rest of mankind is equal with Jesus Christ, why then does Jesus allow other human beings to worship Him without stopping them from worshipping Him, since God alone is worthy to be worshipped? Even angels did not allow human beings to worship them.
It's obvious. It's because He is God!

The First and the Last (Isaiah 44:6; Revelation 1:17-18)
As mentioned above, If Jesus is the first of God's creation, that makes Him the first, but not the last. But Jesus said that He is the First and the Last (Rev. 1:17). But what is even more interesting is that God said the same thing about Himself in Isaiah 44:6. Well, there can be only one first and last.

And when I saw him, I fell as dead at his feet. And he laid his right hand upon me and said: "Do not be fearful. I am the First and the Last, and the living one; and I became dead, but, look! I am living forever and ever, and I have the keys of death and of Hell -- Rev. 1:17-18

Now, if God said that He is the First and the Last, and besides Him there's no God, why then did Jesus refer to Himself as the First and the Last also? At least we can tell that the "him" in Revelation 1:17 is referring to Jesus Christ, not God, because Jesus is the only living One who was dead but now lives. God didn't die.

Same attributes as God (Daniel 7:9-10 vs. Rev. 1:13-15)

There are several instances in the Bible where Jesus Christ is described as having the same attribute as God. For instance in Malachi 3:6, God reminded the Israelites about His unchanging nature.
NWTHS
"For I am GOD; I have not changed. And YOU are sons of Jacob; YOU have not come to YOUR finish.

Well, the writer of Hebrews, in Hebrews 13:8 wrote the same thing about Jesus Christ:

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, and forever.

If Jesus is the first born of all creations, why would the writer of Hebrews say that He is the same yesterday, today and forever? Only God is unchanging! Even angels change! After all, Lucifer and a third of the angels rebelled against God (Isaiah 14:12-20 and Ezekiel 28:12-17).
Also, to prove that Jesus is God, the same way God was described in Daniel 7:9-10 is the same way Jesus was described in Revelation 1:13-15. In Daniel 7, Daniel had a vision and in the vision he saw the Ancient of Days (God):

"I kept on beholding until there were thrones placed and the Ancient of Days sat down. His clothing was white just like snow, and the hair of his head was like clean wool. His throne was flames of fire; its wheels were a burning fire. --Daniel 7:9

, and in the midst of the lampstands someone like a son of man, clothed with a garment that reached down to the feet, and girded at the breasts with a golden girdle. Moreover, his head and his hair were white as white wool, as snow, and his eyes as a fiery flame; and his feet were like fine copper when glowing in a furnace; and his voice was as the sound of many waters. -- Revelation 1:13-15

One with the Father (John 10:30-33)

In John 10:30 Jesus told the Jews, "I and the Father are one." To which the Jews picked up stones to stone Him.

If YOU men had known me, YOU would have known my Father also; from this moment on YOU know him and have seen him."
Philip said to him: "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us."
Jesus said to him: "Have I been with YOU men so long a time, and yet, Philip, you have not come to know me? He that has seen me has seen the Father [also]. How is it you say, 'Show us the Father'?

My Lord and My God (John 20:28)
One of the most compelling verses in the Bible, is in John 20:28 when Thomas touched Jesus' hands and sides after His resurrection before he could believe that indeed He rose from the dead. Thomas exclaimed, "My Lord and My God!" proving that Jesus indeed is God. If not, he wouldn't have made that statement or he would have been blaspheming. And if Jesus is not God He would have corrected Thomas when he made that statement.

The Omniscient God (John 21:15-17; Matt: 9:4, 12:25)
Another attribute of God exhibited by Jesus Christ is His omniscience; i.e., the ability to know all things. In John 21:15-17, after Jesus' resurrection, He asked Peter three times if He loved Him, then told him to feed His lambs, tend His sheep and feed His sheep.

He said to him the third time: "Simon son of John, do you have affection for me?" Peter became grieved that he said to him the third time: "Do you have affection for me?" So he said to him: "Lord, you know all things; you are aware that I have affection for you." Jesus said to him: "Feed my little sheep. - John 21:17

Notice Peter's response. Peter said, "Lord, You know all things." Well, only God is all knowing; i.e., omniscient!

Also, there are other passages in the Bible (Matthew 9:4, 12:25) that talk about Jesus knowing the thought of the Pharisees or His opponents. For instance, in Matthew 9:4, the passage says that "Jesus knew their thought." Well, a thought knowing attribute is an attribute of God; i.e., His omniscience. Only God knows the thoughts of man. The Psalmist says that He knows our thoughts from afar off (Psalm 139:2 and Psalm 94:11).

So, if Jesus is not God, He could not have known the thoughts of the people. By the way, this is an actual knowing of someone's thought, and not mind reading.

The Resurrection and the Life (John 10:17-18)
There are several instances in the Bible where dead people were brought back to life. From Elijah raising the Zarephath's widow's son (1 Kings 17:17-24) to Jesus raising Jairus' daughter (Mark 5:22-24, 35-43), to Peter raising Tabitha (Acts 9:39-40), to Paul raising Euthycus (Acts 20:9-10). One thing these 'resurrections' have in common is that these were cases where someone raised another person from the dead. Not the dead people themselves raising themselves from the dead.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ, on the other hand, is another proof of His deity. Only God has the power to lay down His life and raise it back again! In the other 'resurrections' the people who died just died, and they needed someone else to raise them up. Besides, the people who were raised from the dead later died again at some point. But Jesus raised Himself up; never to die again. He lives -- forever!

Indeed, Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25).

The Special-Miracle-Working God (John 11)
Jesus performed several miracles in His life. From calming a storm (Matthew 8:23-27); to walking on water (Mark 6:45-52); to feeding 5,000 men (Luke 9:10-17); etc. But of all His miracles, the most special, I believe, was raising Lazarus from the dead. This miracle, like many of His other special miracles, is a proof of His deity. It was most special because Lazarus had been dead for four days before Jesus raised him up! In fact, when Jesus asked that the stone covering the tomb be removed, Martha told Jesus, "Lord, by now he must smell, for it is four days." John 11:39

So, not only was Lazarus dead but his body had started to decompose, yet Jesus raised him from the dead. Only God, the One who could make even dry bones come alive again (Ezekiel 37:1-14), could raise a person that's been dead for four days!

The Mighty God (Isaiah 9:6)
In Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah prophesied about the coming of Jesus saying:

For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

If you agree that the subject and object of this passage is the coming Messiah, you notice that the verse says that His name be called "Mighty God" (with a capital 'G') and "Eternal Father." Well then, if this passage is about Jesus Christ, and it says that He is the Mighty God and Eternal Father,

Besides, the word 'eternal' means "having infinite duration," "continued without intermission," "timeless," or "seemingly endless." To be eternal means to exist before and after time. So, definitely Jesus cannot be the first creation of God. If He were, He wouldn't be eternal!

Anyway, without belaboring the point, Jesus Christ, as a Christian song goes, is not just a man, He is God! Amen!

As they left, the SNG team remarked that they would watch Jonathan’s policies, but indicated their reluctance to be drawn into a role in his presidential ambition. As the delegates got into their cars to leave the villa, the minister of the Niger Delta, Mr. Godsday Orubebe, produced $50,000, which he described as “a token for the group’s transport costs.”

Our source said that Mr. Bakare fiercely protested against the “gift,” stating that as a man of God and conscience of the nation he would not accept bribes or any form of inducement he could not openly sign for. To avoid creating a public scene, the team drove to their hotel and then sent the $50,000 cash back to Jonathan through Tony Uranta, one of Jonathan's political operatives. Mr. Uranta was present throughout the president’s meeting with the SNG.

Dear NL, I was in Nigeria some times in September and i travelled to Sokoto for a function. I bought my return ticket  back to Abuja a day before my return date had a confirmed seat as well, but on getting to the airport 35 minutes before departure i was told that there was no boarding pass for me that the flight was full! I told the guy but i have a confirmed ticket and the response i got was a shocker. I went to talk to the manager I saw Boarding passes on his table and he told me that he was sorry the boarding pass had finished. I was still in his office when somebody that hadn't even ticket called him from that he was coming and he promised him a seat! I was really angry and somebody called me aside and told me that she paid N2,000 to get her boarding pass! I was mad i went to the manager's office started recking and threatened to write the airline, the guy said nothing to me. It was later they quietly sent a guy with the boarding pass to give after i exhausted my energy talking at the airport. the worst was that this flight was also delayed for over 8 hrs. Now my question is this is that we Nigerians take pleasure in maltreating our fellow Nigerians or that we are just a bunch of greedy and corrupt people?

Atiku to Obasanjo: You Would Have Rot in Prison
•Accuses Jonathan of voodoo economics
From Chuks Okocha in Abuja and Idowu Sowunmi in Lagos, 11.26.2010
Former vice president and the northern consensus presidential aspirant, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar yesterday lashed out at the seemingly irreverent response given by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday when asked to comment on the choice of his former vice president as the consensus candidate.

The Atiku Campaign Organisation also condemned the economic policies of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, stating that the federal government was taking deliberate attempt to distort facts and confuse Nigerians on the economic performance of the administration.

Obasanjo had on Thursday retorted, "I dey Laugh" when asked to comment on the choice of Atiku as the consensus presidential aspirant of a northern political group led by Adamu Ciroma.
But the deputy director general of the Atiku Campaign Organisation, Ibrahim Bashir revealed that when the former vice president was informed that Obasanjo laughed when asked to comment on Atiku’s selection, Atiku responded: "Why won’t he laugh; he would have rot in the Yola Prison if not for (General Ibrahim) Babangida and General Abdullsami Abubakar."
Still referring to Obasanjo’s comical stance on Atiku selection, Bashir said, "It was after all Obasanjo that first chose Atiku as vice president, when he had won his election as the governor of Adamawa State."

The Atiku Organisation also condemned the economic policies of the Jonathan administration, explaining that the federal government was deliberately distorting the facts and confusing Nigerians on the economic performance of the administration particularly in the implementation of the capital components of the 2010 Appropriation Act as amended and supplemented.
Said the organisation: "The Jonathan administration according to the Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2011-2013 has led Nigeria into a budget deficit of 6.06 per cent of GDP and plans a deficit of 5.75 per cent of the GDP in 2011 contrary to the provisions of Section 12 of the Fiscal Responsibility Act on aggregate expenditure ceiling.

"The three per cent rule can only be exceeded if in the opinion of the president, there is a clear and present threat to national security or sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or it may be exceeded if the National Assembly determines any other percentage as sustainable.

"Empirical evidence sho-ws that the administration had last year presented a budget containing deficits far in excess of the three per cent rule."

The Atiku Organisation held that "to state that the economy should not be the subject of political discourse is a display of ignorance," noting that the undulating fortunes of the Republican and Democratic parties in America have been based on the performance of the American economy.

"President Obama was elected on his superior economic reform agenda whilst the loss of a large number of congressional seats in the mid-term elections was premised on the slow rate of economic recovery particularly in creating new jobs and cutting down the deficit."

The organisation said the 2010 Amended and Supplementary Budgets provides N2,669.01 billion for recurrent non-debt expenditure, N1,764.69 billion for capital expenditure, N542.38 billion for debt service and N183.58 billion for statutory transfers.
"These figures as a percentage of the overall budget represent 52 per cent for recurrent non-debt expenditure, 34 per cent for capital expenditure, 10 per cent for debt service and four per cent for statutory transfers respectively," the statement explained.

The Federal Executive Council through the Minister of Finance, Dr. Olusegun Aganga had warned Atiku not to play politics with the economy, while the Jonathan/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation also took a swipe at the former vice president over his criticism that President Jonathan was mismanaging the nation's economy.

Atiku, had in a press conference on Tuesday asked some pertinent questions on the economy. "Why are our budgets not being implemented? Why has the money in our Excess Crude Account disappeared at a time when oil prices have been way above the benchmark used for our budget estimates? Why are our foreign reserves being depleted to dangerous levels leading to rating agencies downgrading our status?” queried Atiku.

But the Director Research and Strategy of Jonathan/Sambo Campaign, Mike Omeri, noted with dismay that Atiku displayed stark ignorance on the performance of the economy, explaining that even the International Monetary Fund acknowledged the upward movement of our economy and has rated the nation's economy as buoyant.
However, the Atiku Campaign Organisation yesterday disagreed and described the federal government’s claims on budget implementation as a fraud.

"Dr. Aganga had informed the House of Representatives in plenary in the first week of November 2010 that of the entire capital budget, only the sum of N749 billion had been released, cash-backed and was available for ministries, departments and agencies of government (MDAs) to draw from."
"This is however N1 billion less that the N750 billion he claimed to have released and cash-backed," the statement said.

Belgore: Nigeria’ll Remain Indivisible
From Ndubuisi Francis in Abuja , 11.25.2010
A former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Alfa Modibo Belgore, yesterday declared that in spite of projections by Western interests that Nigeria will disintegrate, the country would remain indivisible, even as he argued that it serves the greater interest of the West if Nigeria’s development is impeded.

Belgore spoke in Abuja at the Geomatics Prize Award Ceremony 2010 organised by GeoQinetiq Geomatics Limited with the theme, “Geomatics and the Opportunities it Presents for Our Nation’s Development”.

To buttress his confidence on the nation’s indivisibility, the former CJN observed that some years back, some western agencies had earlier projected that the country was going to disintegrate by 2010, adding that when it became clear that this was a ruse, the date was changed to 2015.

He noted that as part of the overall attempt to dismember the country, a recent attack by a minority group in Jos Plateau State on some other groups in the state was given a religious toga and reported by the western media as an attack by Muslims on Christians.

This, he argued, was aimed at inflaming passion and raising tension across the country thereby creating a religious upheaval with the sole intent of disintegrating the country.

The erstwhile CJN said a Nigeria in chaos would feather the nest of the west as they would deploy their troops to the Niger Delta under the guise of safeguarding their investments in that region only to use the opportunity to illegally siphon oil.
Besides, he noted that a disintegrated Nigeria would create warlords across different parts of the country and offer the West an opportunity to sell their arms.

He stated that Brazil, Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria were countries the West would want that their development challenges are intractable because of the immense potential in those countries, which when fully harnessed, could make them elite nations of the world.

For Nigeria, Belgore admonished that the country should begin to harness her resources effectively, adding that if this happens, in a few decades, Nigeria is rubbing shoulders with the three elitist nations of the world.

He applauded the initiative and strides of GeoQinetiq in blazing the trail in geo-informatics and interest in developing younger professionals.

Fraud Detected in Call to Bar Final Exams
From Tobi Soniyi in Abuja, 11.24.2010
Following a report of leakages in the Nigerian Law School's Bar final examinations conducted in August 2010, the Body of Benchers has suspended the screening of successful candidates in the examinations.
The screening, which is a pre-requisite for call to bar of successful candidates of the Nigerian Law School, was scheduled for next week.

At a meeting presided over by Justice Dahiru Musdapher of the Supreme Court who is also the Chairman of the Body of Benchers, it was resolved that the allegations of leakage should be investigated to determine whether to cancel the examinations and order a retake or allow the results of the examinations to stand.
The body will again meet on Monday, November 29th, 2010.

Some students had written an anonymous letter to the Body of Benchers, the body statutorily empowered to call successful candidates from the Nigerian Law School to bar, stating that, "all the question papers for the examination were leaked to students who could afford to pay the price fixed by some staff of the law school who were involved in the examination processes."
The students said the price paid for each paper ranged between N500,000 to N1 million.
According to them, the leakage was effected through the internet and also by distributing hard copies of the question papers to the students that were wealthy enough to pay the prices.

The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Nigerian Law School has already confirmed the leakage.
In a report of its investigation submitted to the Body of Benchers, a copy of which was obtained by THISDAY, the ACU alleged that the papers leaked through one Mr. Bello Bala, the Personal Assistant to the Director-General of the law school, Dr. Tahir Mamman.

A member of the Body of Benchers, who confided in THISDAY, said the body was worried that the integrity of the Nigerian Law School would take a dive once the leakages become public knowledge.
The report also alleged a cover-up on the part of the DG who after he was confronted with the evidence of the leakage wrote to the Body of Benchers denying any such leakages.

Similar leakages took place in the Kano Campus of the Nigerian Law School during the 2002 Bar Final Examinations where the school’s present DG was a director. The examinations were subsequently cancelled and a retake was ordered by the Body of Benchers.
Already, pressure is mounting on the body to cancel the leaked paper, titled “Cooperate Law and Practice”.
Despite the alleged overwhelming evidence confirming the leakage, the DG of the law school, Mamman, has written a letter to the Body of Benchers denying the leakage.

The letter dated, 19th November, 2010, which was a response to a query sent to him by the Chairman of the Body of Benchers, was also obtained by THISDAY.
Mamman said: “I acknowledge yours on the above matter and wish to state that to the best of my knowledge and information, the allegation was untrue.

"Like in any examinations, students generate rumours of malpractice which the administration routinely checks. Such rumours, like this are not accompanied by concrete facts or identification of its author for proper checks and investigation.
“I therefore advise that this allegation is discountenanced because the labour and handwork of majority of students should not be negatively affected by the unfounded claims of a few who probably failed their examinations or have other reasons to complain."
Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Richard Akinjide (SAN), expressed concern at the leakages and asked the Body of Benchers to commence an investigation into the allegations.

A copy of his letter to the Body of Benchers which was obtained by the newspaper read: “I write as former chairman of the body of benchers as well as the current Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former Attorney-General of the Federation and President of the Nigerian Bar Association of the Nigerian Bar 1970-73.”

Another senior lawyer, S.M. Olakunrin (SAN), has also written to the Body of Benchers asking it not to treat the leakages with levity.
Olakunrin’s letter, which was obtained by the newspaper, read: “I, as a life bencher and former chairman, would urgently recommend that you send an urgent request to the Chairman of the Council of Legal Education and the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School to forward to you details of the examination malpractice and to forward the names of the three hundred candidates (300) alleged candidates involved for onward transmission to the Chairman of the Screening Committee of the body, so that the screening committee will not screen any such names that may be brought up at the screening that is coming up next week.”

Another senior lawyer, Mrs. Hairat Ade-Balogun (OON), has written to the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC), Justice Emmanuel Ayoola (rtd).
Excerpts from the letter read: “Information has reached me that there was a leakage in the examination questions for the bar finals at the Nigerian Law School in the recently concluded examinations.
“I was also informed that about 300 students were found to have been involved. The only action taken by the Authorities of the school was to enquire and discover that a staff member of the Nigerian Law School at Bwari was involved and the staff was instantly dismissed.”

A member of the Body of Benchers, however, confided in the newspaper that the body found the defence of the DG unconvincing in the face of overwhelming evidence all of which were within the knowledge of the DG.

Thats a lie! Atiku cannot visit the US; the day he attempts it, he will be locked up. Where is he even gonna stay if he visits? Just a few weeks ago, he's wife Jennifer sold their $1.7million Potomac house and fled the US for Dubai. This thing was on CNN, so I don'y know where you get the fairy tale that Atiku can visit the US,

@yemi313
I'm not here to impress fools. I couldn't care less about what you think.
if you care to read check this out to cure your ignorance.

The dust raised by the search of Vice President, Atiku Abubabar’s United States home by Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has finally settled with his being cleared by the security agency.

The FBI, armed with a warrant, had searched the vice president’s home in August last year following the indictment of American congressman, William Jefferson who was alleged to have bribed Atiku with $100,000 to facilitate a communications deal in Nigeria.

Although the vice president denied any wrongdoing in the case, a shadow was somehow cast on his innocence.

A statement issued on Monday by the vice president’s office and signed by his Deputy Press Secretary, Mallam Mohammed Yakub, said the FBI’s further investigations into the matter had established Atiku as a victim of Jefferson’s greed and name-dropping scam.

The report made public by the secret agency showed the American congressman never passed on any money to the vice president as claimed, rather the money was found in Jefferson’s home concealed in his freezer.

Subsequently, the American investigation bureau, which has Jefferson on tape collecting the money from an undercover agent, cleared the vice president of any wrong doing on the matter.
The statement stressed that “Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the celebrated investigation of American Congressman, William Jefferson over a communication project for Nigeria.

“The FBI clearance was contained in the course of its investigations into the matter. The affidavit revealed that FBI investigation confirmed that Jefferson collected $100,000 (about N14m) from the communication company. The money was never passed to Vice President Abubakar. Instead, Jefferson kept the money in his home although in a taped FBI sting, he said that he passed the money to Abubakar.”

The statement further pointed out that “the FBI finding on the matter is a clear indication of how innocent hardworking men and women get their reputation damaged by unscrupulous people they sometimes encounter in the course of official business”.

The statement reads in full: “Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the celebrated investigation of American Congressman, William Jefferson over a communication project for Nigeria.

“The FBI clearance was contained in the affidavit deposed by the American Investigation Bureau in the course of its investigations into the matter. The affidavit revealed that FBI investigation confirmed that Jefferson collected $100,000 (about N14m) from the communication company. The money was never passed to Vice President Abubakar. Instead, Jefferson kept the money in his home although in a taped FBI sting, he said that he passed the money to Abubakar.

“Jefferson collected the $100,000 from the businessman and FBI informant on July 30. He had a meeting with Vice President Atiku on August 1. He told the businessman that he passed the money to Atiku Abubakar same day. However, the money was found stuffed in his freezer, wrapped in $10,000 packs and concealed in food containers and aluminium foil when the FBI searched his home on August 3, 2005.

“Vice President Abubakar has consistently denied any wrongdoing in his interaction with Jefferson. He maintained that he met Jefferson on the introduction of the Nigerian Embassy in the United States, which enthused that he had a proposal for foreign investment in Nigeria. Abubakar had also argued that since Jefferson was Chairman of the American House Sub-Committee on Nigeria and Brazil, he had no reason to decline the request of the Nigerian Embassy on him to meet Jefferson.

“Abubakar had further maintained that there was nothing secret in his interaction with Jefferson because the proposal for the communication project was forwarded to the Ministry of Communications by his office, using the official channel. The Ministry of Communications exchanged correspondence with the office of the Vice President on the subject.

“The affidavit, unsealed on Sunday by an American Magistrate Court claimed that Jefferson was caught on video-tape collecting a reddish-brown briefcase containing $100,000 in $100 bills.
“It adds that Jefferson assured the FBI informant in their coded conversations that he paid the Nigerian official, even though the money was still in Jefferson’s possession when the agents searched his home August 3, two days after he claimed to have passed the money to Abubakar.

“The FBI finding on the matter is a clear indication of how innocent hardworking men and women get their reputation damaged by unscrupulous people they sometimes encounter in the course of official business.”

BusinessUs Congress Applauds Cbn Banking Reforms by silami(op): 8:38am On Nov 24, 2010
On Tuesday, Nov 16th 2010, at the Rayburn House Office Building, Capitol Hill, in Washington D.C. the crucial role that Nigeria’s economy plays in Africa and the global economy, was put under the spotlight, as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and the Director General of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), Ms Arunma Oteh, gave testimonies at a congressional hearing titled, ‘Global Financial Crisis and Financial Reforms in Nigeria’, by special invitation of the US Congress Subcommittee on International Monetary Policy and Trade.
It was an open hearing presided over by the Chairman of the Subcommittee on International Monetary Policy and Trade, Honourable Gregory W. Meeks (Democrat), supported by Ranking Member, Honourable Gary G. Miller (Republican), with other House Representatives, the press and the public in attendance.
In his opening remarks, Honourable Meeks recalled his meeting with the CBN Governor in February 2010 during a bi-partisan congressional mission to Africa aimed at gaining insight into the programs implemented by governments and multilateral institutions to tackle the impact of the financial crisis and global economic recession on African nations.
He remarked; “We were fascinated by the CBN Governor, and impressed by the tough, decisive and transparent actions that he and his colleagues had taken in Nigeria in a way that many Americans wish had also been done here with the leaders of financial institutions that benefitted from tax-payer funded bail-outs.” Consequently, Congress invited Governor Sanusi and DG Oteh to tell the Nigeria and Africa story, to better inform the US work in support of emerging markets.
Addressing Sanusi and Oteh as “extraordinary” and “distinguished” witnesses, Chairman Meeks said it was uncommon for senior government officials from another country to agree to testify before the United States Congress, but conceded that “these are unusual times, as the global financial crisis from which the world is only beginning to emerge continues to hang over many nations’ recovery plans.”
In a two-hour hearing, the witnesses summarised their written submissions and then answered questions from the House.
Sanusi reiterated the background to the crisis in the Nigerian financial sector, recounting the stress tests conducted on all banks and a further examination of the nine banks identified as ‘distressed’. He reported that the sector was beset by liquidity problems, the collapse of interbank lending, ‘bubble capital’, asset concentration and serious governance issues, which led the CBN to embark on an aggressive reform program whose key features include; the removal and prosecution of ‘bad’ CEOs; the recapitalisation of fragile banks; the establishment of AMCON (the Asset Management Company of Nigeria) which is unique in Nigeria, to buy up ‘bad loans’ and help recapitalise the distressed banks; the review of the universal banking model; and the integration of the financial sector with the real economy.
Sanusi and Oteh addressed many questions relating to the restoration of confidence in the financial markets and the creation of an enabling environment to attract capital inflows into Nigeria without leading to another speculative bubble.
In response, the CBN Governor said that the regulators are following the capital inflows to ensure that “the right kind of financial and economic policies are in place to attract the right kind of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI).” Sanusi pinpointed Agriculture and the Power sector as key sectors which have huge potential for the country, illustrated by the fact that Agriculture contributes 42% of the nation’s GDP but remains largely in primary production, with only 4% of GDP coming from manufacturing. He said that the Power sector is potentially bigger than the Telecoms sector, and reported that President Goodluck Jonathan is doing all the right things to ensure significant progress is made with the Power sector reforms.
On her part, Ms Oteh said that SEC is committed to creating “a world class capital market in Nigeria that would foster meritocracy, encourage innovation and entrench good governance.” “This is the decade for Africa,” Oteh said, as she addressed the issue of US investors finding interest in Nigeria and anxieties over speculative bubble. “There are huge investment requirements, hence opportunities, across different sectors which current FDI levels cannot fully address,” she added.
Mr Todd J. Moss, Vice President and Senior Fellow, Centre for Global Development, who was the third witness at the hearing, opined in his submission that “the global economic crisis may turn out to be a good thing for Nigeria”, explaining that the country’s banking troubles were largely local in
nature and the pressure of the global crisis both exposed the hidden problems as well as forced the actions of the Nigerian authorities which would make Nigeria’s financial sector stronger and more competitive.
Moss called on the Nigerian authorities to deal with the fiscal situation as a matter of urgency, citing the savings in the Excess Crude account which stood at $20bn just 20months ago but now almost completely depleted.
Moss emphasised that Nigeria ’s success is undeniably in the U.S national interest, asserting that as a regional powerhouse and a neighbourhood enforcer when necessary, Nigeria is key to regional security. “ Nigeria is vital to the US energy security, as well as a lynchpin in the global fight against 21st century transnational threats such as terrorism, diseases, drugs and arms trafficking. A strong Nigeria can be an indispensable ally to contain those threats,” Moss concluded.

Nairaland GeneralCalifornia Animal Rescuers Seek Homes For 1,000 Rats by silami(op): 8:31am On Nov 24, 2010
Rats breed rapidly, giving birth after a gestation period of 23 to 24 days

A Californian animal shelter is seeking adoptive homes for 1,000 rats rescued from a house they had infested and virtually destroyed.

The rats ran amok in the Los Angeles house of a man said to be receiving mental health treatment, after his daughter brought a pregnant rat home.

“You were standing in crowds of rats,” a rescuer told a California newspaper.

Animal rescuers are sorting the rats in a warehouse and will make them available for new homes on 5 December.

Seeking rat food
The rats spread into the area outside the house, leading alarmed neighbours to contact producers of the reality television show Hoarders, that documents people living packed among belongings in filth, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

“He had all these rats reproducing until they had destroyed his entire house,” Lauren Paul, an animal rescuer with North Star Rescue, told the newspaper.

“They chewed all the way through the walls. There were cages in the house, but the doors were all open. When you walked into the house, you were standing in crowds of rats. They were all around you.”

North Star Rescue has called for donations, such as “healthy cereals to mix with rat food, dried pasta, dried fruits and nuts, dry soy beans, oats, barley, rye and other rat compatible foods”, and toys for the rats.

EducationFg Names Location Of Six New Varsities by silami(op): 3:20am On Nov 23, 2010
FG Names Location of Six New Varsities
From Bukola Olatunji in Abuja, 11.22.2010
Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i yesterday named Nasarawa, Taraba, Jigawa, Ebonyi, Bayelsa and Ekiti states, representing each of their geo-political zones, as the beneficiaries of the six new universities to be established by the federal government.

Rufai, who addressed newsmen on the creation of the universities Abuja said the choice of location in each zone was guided by the principle of equity. “Consideration was given to states without federal universities and the least concentration of other federal tertiary institutions in terms of existing polytechnics and colleges of education. Where the same number of institutions exists, consideration was given to states without their own universities.”

She further explained that the institutions are conceptually distinct from the current conventional and specialised universities. “They will be programme focused and shall seek to address the peculiar challenges of the zones where they are located.”
A healthy balance will also be struck “between expenditure on core academic activities on the one hand and overhead on the other, such that they will become cost-effective right from take-off with emphasis on the promotion of teaching, learning and research”, the minister further said.

Justifying the establishment of the universities, Rufai said, a total of 1, 305, 277 candidates applied for admission into universities nationwide last year out of which only 205, 170 or 16 percent of them were admitted.  She also gave the example of Bayero University, Kano, which had a carrying capacity of 5, 000 candidates, but had 39, 000 applicants, who made it their first choice.
The six universities are therefore being established “so that as many of our suitably qualified citizens as possible can have access to university-level education and earn the higher qualifications necessary for their own self-development  and the training of the high quality manpower needed for our national development and international competitiveness.”

The minister also seized the opportunity to explain that the federal government has neither abolished the colleges of education, nor was it in the process of doing so. The colleges will continue to produce teachers for the basic level of education and the polytechnics, to train middle-level manpower for the country.

According to her, “the federal government is only desirous of upgrading them so that they can also become autonomous degree-awarding institutions as they mature. Already, four federal colleges of education and two polytechnics are awarding degrees by affiliation with federal universities. Overall, 31 federal and state colleges of education and polytechnics have NUC approved affiliations for the award of degrees.”

PoliticsRe: Atiku "Selected" As Northern Consensus Candidate by silami(m): 11:25pm On Nov 22, 2010
this thing sef is just a bunch of media lies.

"The committee, which comprised Adamu Ciroma, David Jemibewon, Audu Ogbeh, Mohammed Dikko, Yussuf Shaba Lafiagi, Ricky Tarfa, Iyorchia Ayu, Magaji Dambatta Mohammed, Anka Bello, Kirfi Sule Lamido, Babangida Aliyu and Danjuma Goje, has kept its findings secret, but speculations are rife that the panel may not be favourably disposed to Babangida and Abubakar, because of their antecedents. According to sources, the decision is being zeroed in on either Gusau or Saraki".

Culled from PM News.

i dnt know where they got the info
