Culture / Re: Raising Your Children The Nigerian Way When Married To A Foreigner by silky(m): 3:32am On Apr 22, 2006
@Chinani
I'm starting to think that Nigerian parents are more strict abroad than in Naija.

You're probably not far off the mark and there are valid reasons for this, some of which have been highlighted above.

Personally I think or rather say, parenting in Nigeria is done collectively by people with the same ideas, who were brought up the same way mostly under a strict regime of discipline and respect for human values.  When you're abroad that responsibility rests solely on the shoulders of the parent and should a child show signs of waywardness the parent feels they have failed.  The feeling comes partly because they see others as being successful in raising their children the 'Nigerian Way'

If we take a step back from our cultural perspective, we'd realise that the common denominator of well raised children is respect for themselves, others and value of their community regardless of differing race or culture of parents.

I rest my case

Fashion / Re: Girls' New Dress Code: Wear Your Trousers To Show Your Underpants! by silky(m): 12:05pm On Apr 17, 2006
Look closer and you'll see that the skirts have printed images on them, if they were see through you'd be seeing the bookshelf in the first pic and the escalator in the second.

Having said that, those I have seen wear see through clothes do it at nightclubs where visibility is not the best.
Jokes Etc / Mistaken Identity by silky(m): 3:14pm On Apr 16, 2006
A bloke is in a queue at the Supermarket when he notices that the rather dishy blonde behind him has just waived her hand and smiled
hello to him. He is rather taken aback that such a looker would be waving to him, and although familiar he can't place where he might know her from, so he says, "sorry do you know me?" She replies "I maybe mistaken, but I thought you might be the father of one of my children !"

His mind shoots back to the one and only time he has been unfaithful, Christ! he says "are you that stripogram on my stag night that I
shagged on the snooker table in front of all my mates whilst your mate whipped me with some wet celery and stuck a cucumber up my a**?"

No she replies coldly,"I'm your sons' English Teacher",

Please can anyone help? 18 months ago I upgraded to Girlfriend 1.0 from Drinking Mates 4.2, which I had used for years without any trouble.

However, there are apparently conflicts between these two products and the only solution was to try and run Girlfriend 1.0 with the sound turned off.

To make matters worse, Girlfriend 1.0 is incompatible with several other applications, such as LadsNightOut 3.1, Football 4.5, and Playboy 6.9.

Successive versions of GirlFriend proved no better. I tried a shareware program, Slapper 2.1, but it had many bugs and left a virus in my system, forcing me to shut down completely for several weeks.

Eventually, I tried to run GirlFriend 1.2 and Girlfriend 1.0 at the same time, only to discover that when these two systems detected each other they caused severe damage to my hardware.

I eventually upgraded to Fiancée 1.0, only to discover that this product soon had to be upgraded further to Wife 1.0.

While Wife 1.0 tends to use up all my available resources, it does come bundled with FreeSexPlus and Cleanhouse2004. Shortly after this upgrade, however, I found that Wife 1.0 could be very unstable and costly to run.

Any mistakes I made were automatically stored in Wife 1.0's memory and could not be deleted. They then resurfaced months later when I had forgotten about them. Wife 1.0 also has an automatic Diary, Explorer and E-mail filter, and can, without warning, launch TurboStrop and Whinge. These latter products have no Help files, and I have to try to guess what the problem is.

Additional problems are that Wife 1.0 needs updating regularly, requiring ShoeShop Browser for new attachments and Hairstyle Express which needs to be reinstalled every other week. Also, when Wife 1.0 attaches itself to my Saab 93 Convertible hard drive, it often crashes.

Wife 1.0 also comes with an irritating pop-up called Mother-In-Law, which can't be turned off.

Recently I've been tempted to install Mistress 2005, but there could be problems. A friend of mine has alerted me to the fact that if Wife 1.0 detects Mistress 2005, it tends to delete all of your money before uninstalling itself.

As per grammatical errors i've seen and heard worse from english people themselves, it's a shame we haven't heard from Emray since? sad

Emray! Emray!! whats the latest, at least from all the above suggestions you should have progressed this matter.

When I was in school when someone fires a gramatical gun (Ta ibon) we tend to say "Never mind, oyinbo is bitter lemon" This is not making fun cos anyone can make a mistake in a language which is not their Mother-Tounge wink

@Wadosky
did you have to repeat your input 3x for Emray to understand or was this just an error on your part? grin
Romance / Re: My Ex-boyfriend Is Just Too Fond Of Me by silky(m): 11:58am On Apr 11, 2006
Maki, I thought they looked like stitches

I was just referring to a statement someone made in a previous thread (Women with hair on their chest) about women with treasure trails.  No offence intended and I hope none is taken.

Sorry to hear about your ops, what matters though is that you live to tell the tale (some aren't so lucky!!).

Career / Re: Do You Really Love Your Job? by silky(m): 10:13pm On Apr 06, 2006
That depends  undecided

I love my profession with a passion grin but not my current job.  I "loved" it when I started 16 months ago but it seems to have gone stale now.

Think about it most of us will spend half our lives working, if not more.  If you love your profession you will find it easy to love your job, even if that means a change of environment.

So do I really love my job? Yes, the temporary ups and downs? No

Business / Re: What Business Can I Start With 4,000 Naira? by silky(m): 2:50am On Apr 04, 2006
Don't mean to sound negative, but its been almost 10 months now since suggestions have been flying in.  If this guy hasn't already spent this money keeping himself alive then he'd be bald having pulled out all his hair through frustration.

Having said that, if on the off-chance he has managed to keep this money safe then he will have to compile a list of all the proposals made above and then see which one he will like to do and go for it.

AND I WISH HIM GOODLUCK!!
