Politics › Kogi Guber Race: Okun(yoruba) Leaders Push For Leading Role by Simongm(op): 11:46am On May 23, 2019 |
Six months to November 16 Kogi governorship election, leaders from Okun land of the state have constituted a high powered committee to drive the quest for a candidate from the West.
At a recent meeting at General David Jemibewon’s Iyah Gbede residence, politicians itching to be Deputy Governor were encouraged to look beyond their restricted goal. Speaking with Kogireports on the outcome of the meeting, Prince Richard Akanmode confirmed the determined effort by leaders from the zone to ensure Kogi West play a leading role in this year’s governorship election. According to him, the committee was charged to explore options across party lines.
Commenting on the development, a former House of Representatives aspirant, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju said the resolution of great interest to Okun people. “We cannot continue to play second class as free born of Kogi state. We should rise in unison to achieve this noble goal. Incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello was courageous at the last primaries and his people rally round him. Let us rally round one of our own in November,” he said.
At the last count, there are about forty three governorship aspirants from Kogi East senatorial district while the incumbent is from Kogi Central. No one has declared intention to contest the November 16 election in Kogi West.
However, it is been rumoured that Senator Dino Melaye, former deputy governorship candidate, Hon. James Faleke and the Executive Secretary of Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Prince Babatunde Irukera are itching to join the governorship race.
Meanwhile, a socio-political group, Okun Connect has called on Kogi West leaders and electorate to keep hope alive and rally round aspirant that will soon emerge from the zone. Chairman of the group, Comrade Benjamin Adeyele, Kogi state stand to benefit from the managerial prowess, in-built integrity and nationalistic ideals a Governor of Okun extraction will bring into governance.
He lauded the patriotic attempts by Chief Bayo Ojo SAN, Prince Olusola Akanmode, Asiwaju Clarence Olafemi, Engr. George Olumoroti, late Comrade Rotimi Obadofin and others to contest for the governorship seat in the past. Comrade Adeyele called for new generation of aspirants from Kogi West.
He urged the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Kola Ologbondiyan, Dr. Ronke Bello and a former senatorial Aspirant, Dr. Toyin Akanle to join the 2019 contest. http://kogireports.com/kogi-guber-race-okun-leaders-push-for-leading-role/To me, Dino Melaye, Abiodun Faleke and Tunde Irukera are good to contest.

Politics › Yahaya Bello Asks 4 LG Chairmen To Produce Killers Of 15 Herders by Simongm(op): 7:40am On May 22, 2019 |
Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, has asked four local government chairmen to produce killers of 15 herdsmen in two communities in the state. Eleven of the herders were said to have been killed in Yagba west while the other four were killed in Dekina. . Joseph Olutimi, administrator of Yagba west said the killings occurred between May 18 and May 20. Olutimi said the initial report he got was that a farmer was killed by herdsmen, saying that he quickly informed security agents of the development. Jerry Omadara, special adviser on security to Bello, said the herdsmen were killed as a reprisal for the death of the farmer. He also said three corpses of herdsmen were found in Oluja community in Dekina, while several cows were also killed by unknown gunmen. The governor ordered four local administrators in the state to produce the perpetrators of the crime within seven days. Bello issued the ultimatum to the local government chiefs during a stakeholders meeting on security held in Lokoja, the state capital on Tuesday. He said failure to produce the perpetrators would lead to the sack of the administrators who he also accused of ineptitude and dereliction of duty. The affected are the administrators of Yagba West, Omala, Dekina and Igalamela local government councils. The governor said his administration would not condone killings of any citizen in the state under whatever guise.
“This Fulanis have been staying with us in the state peacefully without any rancour, any politicians or detractors who are behind this killing will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Bello said. “My administration will not spare anybody no matter how highly placed in the society.” https://www.thecable.ng/yahaya-bello-asks-4-lg-chairmen-to-produce-killers-of-15-herders/amp?fbclid=IwAR2Y6rYvTh-7l_VqFv
