Never in a time in this world as we get to see it in a fast paced, dynamic world. Life's is changing faster than the speed of light.

3 decades ago, it was cool to be a doctor, lawyer, pharmacist, engineer. But today, one of the broke sets of professionals are in that category. Lawyers being paid 20k per month, doctors having to work 5 hospitals just to get by

2 decades ago, oil and gas was the in thing. Heaven on earth was getting a job in shell, Mobil and chevron. Today, with dwindling oil prices and job instability, most oil workers are scared about losing their jobs.

10 years ago, Akpos was a 100 level student in Uniport and he needed extra money from the pocket money he was receiving from his parents. At the time, he was a engineering student but he wanted to develop his computer skills.

After lectures, he would spend time at a cyber cafe his friend's elder brother owned learning Web design and development. In a year he had developed his skills and 10 months after he launched an e-commerce site and made over 400 million naira in 10 million transactions.

He invested in other digital opportunities such as cryptocurrency and at the same time started teaching others the gold mine opportunities in the digital spaces.

Today he is into affiliate marketing, SEO, cryptocurrency, email marketing, copywriting.

He's worth over 30 billion naira now and he hasn't worked for anyone upon graduation in 2015.

Everyday comes with its own opportunity. Be open minded. What works today may become obsolete tomorrow.

That your career you boast about may end up in you queuing for pension tomorrow.

Religion / Re: Christian Rulings On Building A House by simpledoty(m): 2:58pm On Jan 15, 2021
thebosstrevor1:
Funny enough, there are Christian codes on how to build your house.

God wants us to build our house properly and also wants us to build it in a way that it wont collapse and kill people or the blame will be on the buider or the owner of the property.

In Deuteronomy 8.

God said, When you build a new house, then you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you may not bring guilt of bloodshed on your household if anyone falls from it.

This verse is one of the earliest building codes. If we understand what this verse teaches, we can apply it to many other situations where we must incorporate some safety mechanism in technology.

I understand that houses of the day would typically be one-story with the roof serving much like a porch today - an extra place to spend time outdoors. Because people would be one story off the ground, it was certainly possible for them to fall off and be injured or killed. So, God’s people were commanded to build a barrier (some translations say “fence”) around the roof to prevent people from falling off. The stated purpose of this technology is to prevent accidents. At times, we are all careless or focused on some other task and not paying attention to what we’re doing or where we are. Think also of children playing, focusing on the current game rather than being aware of where they are. The barrier would prevent someone from accidently falling.

One can argue that if you’re being careless, then you need to suffer the consequences of that and learn from it for next time. That may be true in some cases. As a parent I have allowed my children to fail in some cases and reap the consequences so they would learn. However, I will not do that when serious injury or death could be a consequence. Scripture is to interpret scripture and I think we can see from scripture how this case is different. Scripture shows us God’s love for the lives of all people and animals that He has created. At the end of the book of Jonah, the prophet is angry that God chose to show mercy on the Ninevites. God responds by saying that He has compassion on such a large group of people that are so ignorant, and even has compassion on their animals. God showed mercy because He loves the lives of His creatures.

In the case of falling from a roof, the harm caused by a fall could be very serious (death or permanent disability) and the cause relatively minor (carelessness). Given the command in Deuteronomy, it would seem that God holds life highly and He wants us to hold it highly as well, even if someone fails to value it resulting in carelessness. Even if someone should be chastened and learn to be less careless, the resulting consequence of falling off a roof is so damaging to life that it is more important for it to be prevented rather than allow the lesson to be learned.

Note also that a fence or parapet will not prevent anyone and everyone from going over if they willfully choose to do so. It would be very difficult, if not impossible, to completely prevent a determined person from climbing over any sort of barrier. That situation is not part of this commandment. It may even be harmful to attempt to build such a barrier. It may be so expensive that you couldn’t afford it, and so couldn’t build a house. Or, it may block the view, or breeze, or other reasons for being on the roof to begin with.

In summary, this command shows us that for whatever technology we build, we need to provide for safety against harm, putting up barriers to foreseeable accidents.

Culture / The Problems Facing Youths In Nigeria by simpledoty(m): 1:57pm On Jan 04, 2021
Nigeria is a blessed nation, unfortunately not everyone sees it. Although I agree that many factors can predispose one to either being a success or a failure. It is actually more easy to succeed in Nigeria as a Nigerian as someone who is an American to succeed in America. The first 1000 richest people in world on forbes lists contain Nigerians.

So in my little years on earth I've found out that these few problems constitutes reasons why many youths do not excel.

1. Financial Home training.
They say charity begins at home. Most parents rarely teach their kids financial education. Many parents have through the course of their lives made financial mistakes that made them failures. In as much the world now moves in a fast pace dynamic way. Most poor parents rarely inculcate financial discipline and intelligence to their kids. They still believe that academic excellence is the best way to riches.

2. Misplaced Priorities.
Most Nigerian youths today have lost it. A typical Nigerian youth spends more time socialising, partying, Instagramming, WhatsApping. Thereby wasting precious time that he or she would have used to think about his or her future.

3. Laziness.
Most youths are looking for juicy jobs. The truth is in this age and time, you can't find juicy jobs any more. One of the great secret to wealth is trading. Just buy starting a business on a fast moving consumer goods in a busy location is a sure banker on acquiring riches. Most wealth Nìgerians made it from idumota, alaba and onitsha.

4. Instant Gratification.
The things we desire to have as a youth never goes out of fashion. Things like clothes, sex, technology, housing e.t.c.
For example, a young guy who leaves nysc to get good paying job is already thinking on how to move to a nice apartment, furnish it to standard, get the latest cars and phone without considering the bigger picture. The day he loses his job or adds more expenses to his life he runs into problem.

5. Looking at the bigger picture.
Most youths don't see beyond their nose. They are just about now and today. Rarely thinking about the future and what it holds.
We are all created to serve God and people. And when you serve people, you get something for yourself too. Most youths just want to take take and keep taking. Thereby always asking for urgent 2k.

Trustme2:
The current unemployment rates for each province/territory, in addition to the national unemployment rate, do not take into account the
labour shortages that will occur due to Canada's low birth rate and aging population.
The summer of 2020 will see the unemployment rate in Canada drop to nearly zero percent as young workers entering the workforce fail to keep up with the elderly workers retiring by the thousands. Ontario, for example, will see 190,000 job positions go unfilled.[11] Canada will have as many as 1.8 million jobs without the right quality of people to apply for them by 2030.
This will put Canada in a "severe labour shortage" situations; and desperate measures like hiring foreign workers for one year at a time and re-educating unskilled workers into skilled workers will be the agenda for most companies during this era. [12]
( I SAW THIS SOMEWHERE AND decided TO SHARE)

understand how patriotic you are and how you believe staying in Nigeria and setting up your own business with money, becoming a landlord, etc. is better than being abroad, that is fine. It's clear where your priorities lie and what you see as a fulfilled life. To each his own.

Without being condescending, it seems you have absolutely NO idea why people seek greener pastures to developed countries. You converted 8k euros to 4m Naira and because it's in millions, you think it's a fortune? Not everyone wants to be a landlord in Ikorodu, Epe or Sango (No disrespect to people who live there).

Nigeria is a failed state. Do you know how many death-traps they import into Nigeria as salvaged cars that people drive on the roads? Do you know how many illegal drugs are on the market because the "owners" bribed their way through the agencies supposed to control these? God forbid your daughter goes to a rich man's son's house, gets raped and you want justice.

Which land can 4m Naira buy? Lol. How many Old people are suffering because there is no system in place for them for life after retirement? That's even if they lived a worthy life before retirement. The state of unhealthy foods in Nigerian restaurants with no regulations in place? The smoke you inhale every day from horrible buses and cars that should never be on the roads!

My God, if we start talking about reasons to leave Nigeria, I'll be 95 before I stop. What business if I may ask can you set up in Nigeria with 4m Naira? (Please don't talk about open a sports betting shop/importing goods from dubai, selling oil, rice, garri and those 16th century business ideas). Do you know how many people have invested and failed, with customers owing them all over? You can't even track a customer down, sue to court to get your money back, etc.

You shouldn't compare a working system to a non-existent system. I'd choose life here in the U.S with NO savings but a roof over my head in a rented apartment, my kids in school, food on my table, etc., over living in even Lekki as a landlord and being at the mercy of a failed country and leaders.

Good lord, educate yourself! Do you know it's illegal for your kids to not go to school? The average American kid goes to school!!! Can read AND write. You constantly have to prove you're fit to be a parent else you lose custody of your kids. How many kids are in Makoko, suffering and have no idea what the future holds?

Don't get me started. "People are overseas for 20 years but don't have even a room here" . How is this a yardstick to measure a fulfilled life? Some people in Nigeria have never even seen a dishwasher/washer/drier before. Many think using them is "Lazy", haha... basic things that make life easy. I'll just leave you to your mindset.

Again, your reasons for deciding to stay is best known to you. Don't let blind patriotism cloud your good judgment.

Finally, you have absolutely no clue how WORTHLESS the Nigerian passport is. As they always say, a good name is better than gold and silver. Get into a fight with any Foreigner (American/European for example) in that Nigeria of yours and let your police judge the matter. You'll know how useless the country is. (Copied)

They say life is a school that gives you a test before teaching you the lesson.

Most a times, some of us that where academically sound and had things going for them didn't really understand life till problems and challenges started.

I read in a place that when a young man struggles to get money, it builds character but in a place where a young man sees money on abruptly it builds ego.

The latter became my issue, I had finished school on time, got a job a month before my POP that the environment was making me money.

I flexed my life like I hadn't flexed, travelled, bought latest gadgets, designers had numerous girlfriend.
Life got to my head I started feeling bigger than the job not challenging instructions from my superiors till I lost the job.

My ego had cost me so much that I later understood what life was really about.

Sadly, funds stopped coming in, all my girls started leaving me even friends that I had gifted money, clothes and appliances stopped picking my calls.

Now, the city I used to enjoy now looks like the worst place on earth. I'm thinking relocating will help my thought process to know what to do as I have been confused.

The last card I have is a house I built. I'm thinking of selling it and using the capital to start a business in a place where I'm not known and start a low key life.

Nothing dey this life o....
Learnt the hard way that there's no need to impress anyone.
Anything material will fade.
Who you become is more important than what you have or have acquire.

So i need advice on what's the best thing to do.

I think property in this time and age is not the best investment for a 28year old.

Business that can turn your capital over at 20% monthly is even better.

I love your chain of thoughts sir.

Can I email you...

I'm experiencing a grass to grace to grass story now.... I need help on how to forge ahead.

JomoGbomo2:

Good for you to appreciate where you are coming from in terms of paucity of funds and even better that you do not want to return to that state; trust me, I know what you are talking about and i will give you some suggestions or advice to hold on to.

1. Always remember that it is possible to go back to that state of lack of fund you grew up and use this thought as a motivation never to return to such.

2. PAY YOURSELF FIRST: I don't know how much you earn per month/week but whatever it is; pay yourself first. If you earn 100k /month, before anything, remove 50% and save in an investment account (start with this option: STANBIC Money market can help you here) and build up capital there for future business/investment. Now you might ask yourself can 50% of my money take me till the end of the month? my answer to that is "you never had that money before and you survived till now", trust me it will take you. This money is yours for growth alone. When I was growing like you i was saving 90% of my income until i became very comfortable. I still do ~70% till date and I earn big. I can boldly tell you I own couple of companies now in Lagos and still have over 100M cash in account for someone that started with #0 just about 10years ago.

3. Separate emotions from reality and opinions from fact; this is what people around you will use to get money from you. They will say things like if you do not help them they will die. It is a lie!!!. If you are not alive will they die? Learn to separate reality from peoples opinion or emotions especially about your money.

4. Give yourself financial yearly target and try to hit it through savings/investment/business, e.g tell yourself you want 10M in your account by end of the year and do everything to achieve it; you will be amazed how much you will get. Extend this target to your businesses and everything financial around you.

5. Get a financial mentor; someone you want to be like and try to learn from him/her. You may not have one close to you so just get someone you can get books on and read about how the person made his money and try to replicate it.

6. Start reading books on financial and money matters and how to grow them. it will really help you. start with "The Richest Man in Babylon", try and read it more than once. Then start practicing what is inside you will be amazed.

7. Never try to run a business by proxy; not at this stage, you will loose the money. Do businesses that you can be part of. As you grow you will know when to run by proxy. So if any family member tells you to give him/her money to run a business and you will get returns, do not do that.

8. Always go to financial seminars/workshop or just watch them on youtube if they are expensive for you. The idea here is to stay close to people who want same thing as you and work for it like you do. If you have to change friends to do this, never blink an eye.

I hope with this God willing you should never go back to where you came from. Enjoy the financial growth journey my friend.

Career / Re: How Old Were You Jobless, Staying At Home And How Did You Make It? by simpledoty(m): 2:24pm On Jan 02, 2021
Ade3131:
My story plenty ooo... I pray I'm able to summarize with apt and dish out the meat at the end.

I've never been unemployed all my life. All thanks to my upbringing. I started making money as a teenager. Sold pure water and gala at different times while I was in my secondary school and I still managed to be an exceptional student in class. While waiting for admission, I ventured into repairs and sales of micro gadgets like MP3, MP4, CD Walkman player, DVD palmtop media player and so on.

Life was sweet back then. I made so much money but I was never satisfied bcuz I felt pressured to further my education just bcuz of those secondary school hype of "the boy is brilliant and the boy is good"....trust you know that kain thin.

After 2 different post UME heartbreaks, I finally settled for a polytechnic (never have I considered stepping down to a polytechnic level if not, would have been in HND1 by the time I was entering ND1). Again, I graduated well with distinction and that reassurance of my academic prowess came back.... I'm brilliant nau. While searching for a place to intern for my Industrial training, I got a 50k job offer in 2012 but I declined with my shoulder high that I'm better than that ...even as an ND holder ooo...lol

Fast forward to 2017, I quit a job that brought me so much respect and satisfaction due to my ego again... This time, I had graduated from a private University where I paid through my teeth to complete and with my reassuring self, I'd thought I was going to get another job during or after my NYSC. Luck almost shone on me during my youth service but village people at it... I lost the opportunity to a sadist after getting positive recommendation from my country director.

After my near miss at securing another job, I ventured into poultry with a substantial amount of my savings. I targeted easter period and reared boiler chickens only to receive the greatest shock of my life when market realities hits me hard. It was a year to forget as I lost close to 60% of my investment. This got me desperately in need of funds and that desperation led me to the nightmare of my life - I finally accept a 50k job after spending a million plus in a private uni to acquire BSc....mind you, I graduated well there too.

CoronaVirus came and the company (insurance) couldn't meet up with their obligations due to the effect of the pandemic on the economy. As type this, my last salary is still being owed since I was relieved of my appointment on May 18.

After all the merry-go-round of my life, I'm back at Alaba international market where it all started for me. I'm learning how to fix laptop computer (upped my game from the media players) at age 30.

All my friends and mates who were envious of my academic superiority and my exploits in the corporate world didn't know that they were allot better off being a boss of their own...all married and doing well. Mind you, even those who have the best of careers in corporate service still fall back to entrepreneurship at the end of their years of active service. So why not start early (now) and gain ground before they come back to the street and rule over you?

I
I like your story. Similar to what I am going through.

I got a job 2 weeks before my Passing out Parade. The job was cool, a sales job, not a technical one.

Made so much money but my ego came in and affected my dealings with management till I got fired. I tried business and failed, but the thought of going back to the corporate world scares me. Because at this stage I really don't know what I am gunning for in a company.

I've been thinking of changing environment, and start a basic business where no one knows me.....

I have a plot of land to sell in a choice area but people are advising me not 5o sell now..... But I have less than 100k on me.

Now everything in my life seems backwards. Some girls have threatened to curse me in the past.

Now no money to even buy soap unlike before where I make over 700k monthly.
