9. Abercrombie & Fitch Was Originally A Sporting Goods Store https://static2.therichestimages.com/cdn/864/564/90/cw/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/aviscogitations.wordpress.com_.jpg In this case, the final product is rather similar, because Abercrombie clothes, albeit stylized, still have an outdoorsy quality to them. It’s not like Zara, nightclub outfitter par excellence, used to sell fishing rods and hunting rifles to New York gentlemen. That being said, Abercrombie’s is still an impressive transformation. David T. Abercrombie, in 1898, opened a small waterfront shop in Manhattan called “Abercrombie Co.” In 1904, longtime patron, lawyer Ezra Fitch, bought a major share of the company and gave it its current name. Although Abercrombie sold his shares in 1907, the store was so successful by 1910 that the owners opened a twelve-story location on Madison Avenue in New York. Included were an indoor shooting range and a golf school. By 1939, Abercrombie and Fitch was “The Greatest Sporting Goods Store in the World” according to its logo. Now, more than a hundred years later, A&F is known for its teenage clothing and homoerotic catalogs, where the clothing models are mostly undressed. The history of the company is apparent in the cottage-filled backgrounds of the catalog’s photographs, but the foreground offers almost no insight into the merchandise it once sold over twelve busy floors. |
It’s not uncommon for companies to alter what they provide as they grow. When the company gets bigger, it has more resources to figure out what the consumer public wants – or, in the loose sense of the word, what it “needs.” Starbucks probably did not sell overly sweet, bottled Frappuccinos when it was just a little store in Seattle’s Pike Place market, but now they’re available in most locations. There are also companies that start by producing one thing and then, either organically or through deliberate overhaul, begin producing something different altogether. Although sometimes the final “brand” is analogous to its original version, different with shades of sameness, oftentimes the thing has changed so much that its ancestry is barely visible. Below is a list of 10 familiar companies that have totally changed their merch at some point in their corporate histories. Unlike Starbucks, which never stopped selling coffee, these companies took sharp turns into different industries as they expanded. Some will make you curious, some will make you skeptical, and some will make you sick to your stomach, but all of them will now provide something which no one “back then” would have ever guessed. 10. Potbelly Started Off As An Antique Shop https://static5.therichestimages.com/cdn/864/357/90/cw/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/fsdfdfds.jpg You might have heard of Potbelly, the American sandwich franchise with the mom & pop charm. The main contributing factor to this charm is Potbelly’s décor, ever suggestive of the pre-digital past. Every location is outfitted with such things as leather-bound books, sepia globes, and wire suspended airplanes. One might think that this was a calculated move by upper management, an attempt at coziness in response to Subway’s industrial feel, but really it’s an ancestral family trait of the company. Potbelly opened in 1977 as an antique store in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, where the owner also refurbished antique potbelly stoves. After a few years of operation, he and his wife decided that offering customers a bite to eat might help boost sales. Peckish antiquers would leave to get lunch and then never come back due to post-meridiem lassitude. The sandwiches and cookies eventually eclipsed the antiques and popularity. In 1996, Bryant Keil acquired the company and, along with his team, spread Potbelly across the states like mayonnaise over toasted ciabatta. What once was a place to buy antiques and perhaps a ham & cheeser is now one of the country’s most successful sandwich shops, that unfortunately no longer provides Amish-hammered cherrywood rocking chairs. |
coogar:Got it. Still wondering why Raumduter is underrating Charlton. it's not even debatable. |
coogar:Wow!! This charlton was a maestro. Very skillful with the ball. i need more of these videos. i noticed something though, whenever our goalie catches the ball, Benfica players charges at him to take it back without giving him chance to kick it out. Was it the rule back then? |
congrats to Darkenedrebel and Cherlene... best couple of the year. you guys totally rock. ![]() |
Tashaamania: ![]() ![]() ![]() Are you this brainy in real life? ![]() I wanted to dodge the question but as always you had to had the last laugh. ![]() |
Tashaamania:Glad you know. Pheew. *wipes off sweat* ![]() Oh, KeL, last i checked on her, she was getting better. Will mail tomorrow to know how she is and then give you a feedback. BTW, why the squeezing of face? ![]() |
Tashaamania:Luxy will explain better, it's not my fault. ![]() BTW, did anyone tell you, you look gorgeous when you frown your face? ![]() |
obainojazz:The guy's big-big grammar is always constant all the time. ![]() |
Harjibode:i was talking about the females. cant you read for Christ's sake? ![]() |
agarawu23:whether i'm supporting him or not doesn't change the fact that he broke no rules. i even empathized with you cos i feel you have a good point and i'd feel that way too, but still, no rule was broken. it's bitter, but it's the truth. |
TS2:Mr. clueless. |
i vote contestant T. CC: Tashaamania. |
luxanne:Too bad my partner couldn't make it, i didn't even know how to break it to Tasha because i feel i owe her my participation, so i had to explain it to you. ![]() My partner is slightly sick, but she'll be aite, because Pastor Sinizia is gonna pray for her. ![]() Roger that. Off to vote. ![]() |
Cherlene:Sorry I'm replying late, just came online now. Let me lend my own advice to this saga. Luxanne, the part i quoted is what I'm GUESSING is the crux of this saga. And if it is, then Darkenedrebel and Cherlene are right. Now let me explain... By the virtue of following Rebel, i saw when he quoted Agarawu who was complaining that Darkrebel gave hints that pinpointed Cherlene to be the lady talked about in his essay. While Agarawu might feel cheated, unfortunately, Dark did nothing wrong. Why you may ask? It's because of the rules of this competition. You and the organizers only said: 1. No sobriquets 2. No artistry drawing of one's partner depicting the person's real face. Now you didn't spell it out explicitly that one's activities on NL shouldn't be used. That's where Dark is right and where you got it wrong. So based on rules, as long as Dark didn't flout the rules enumerated, he's innocent. If he mentions Cherlene's donation without using her sobriquets, he did no wrong according to your rules. Like Dygeàsy pointed out, you changed your stance midway into the contest probably because of the complaints. You used know the rules shouldn't be changed as long as the competition has started. So what you'd do for the next competition is to spell out your rules to cover EVERYTHING/ANYTHING that will lead to one's activities on Nl along with those aforementioned rules. That way, Agarawu's grievance would hold water. But that said, i won't blame you because you can't be perfect. Just like the wooing competition, you'll get it right with time. This competition started last year, so it's normal to expect it not to be perfect by now or in future. What matters is that you keep fine-tuning the competition to keep getting better as time goes on. I noticed you were not happy as things unfolded, but please don't take it to heart. These things happen. Dygeasy has been constantly berated while hosting the wooing competition but he never quit, rather he keeps trying to make it better than the previous ones. I've no doubt you're the best organizer for this show, so please don't quit. I apologize on behalf of everyone. Sinizia. |
TS2:Did you see begging in my post? |
olalat:What positive influence has the presence of Lawan brought upon your miserable and wretched life, you consumate retárd?!! Idíot. |
abatisegun:How? |
abduljabbar4:Dude for once think outside the box and put aside religion. Chad did it, it doesn't make them bad Muslims. It's just a temporal move till these bombings reduce. Would you prefer to keep seeing humans blown to smithereens simply because you don't want a temporal ban on your religion's requirement. |
erunz:Typical of APC senile old men - holding everyone but themselves responsible for crimes committed by themselves. So PDP is the reason why Osun inhabitants are angry for Aregbe looting their money and not paying workers? What a dullard!! |
People are dying en masse courtesy of Boko Haram and someone is writing about Tinubu being the pillar of APC? How do these trolls escape Yaba left? Too many mórons on this board. |
Johnnyessence:PDP failed the people of Osun? Is Aregberascal in PDP? Is PDP the party in power in Osun? When will you get sense? |
I'm not surprised. Those things applauding him are not the workers being owed many months salary. If they can be in the workers' shoes, they won't be cheering one of the worst governors in history second to only Thief A. Orji. Nonsense!! |
Some many issues for this govt to tackle. Every minute new issues to tackle keep popping up. Governing this country no easy at all. Welcome to the regime of accusations, counter-accusations and denials. |
And the dumb "Unity Forum" will fail woefully. They can cry all they want, Ekweremmadu is going to be the DSP for the next 4 years. If they can't stand it, they can jump into the lagoon. Nobody will miss them. Instead of helping Buhari seek ways to end Boko Haram, they are going after their selfish interests. Idíots. |
I don't think it's a good move because it'd increase unemployment, economic hardship and other sufferings which might metamorphize into stealing by affected parties. This action is wrong IMHO. What El-Rufai should do is to copy the Chadians and ban wearing of any type of Hijab TEMPORARILY for now till this bombing issues subsides. These new breed of female terrorist hides these locally-made bombs in their hijabs. Banning hawking might not work since the bombers can go to market and other gatherings and bomb people. |

Cherlene and Darkenedrebel, i don't know what the issue is all about because i haven't been following this competition, but i beseech you both to not quit. Please don't quit, you two have gone far and stand the best chance to win for y'all to pull out. Whatever it is/was, please just let it go and finish the competition. Don't quit. |

The newspapers are being economical with the truth. They lied it's 20 corpses, but Metronaija is confirming up to 100 deaths. Nigerian medias should stop trying to hide the truth. RIP to dead innocent citizens. May God grant your families the fortitude to bear these losses. |
