Looks like this marriage will be the start of a long unpleasant siege for you... The question to ask yourself is "If you live up to the age of 8 years, is this how you want to spend the rest of your life?" I have lived long enough to know that people do not die when a wedding is called off. There will be shouting, emotional blackmail, crying etc but no body dies. With time everybody moves on. My sister called off her wedding and 15years later, her ex and I run into each other often at professional function. Time heals (almost) everything |
When your government thinks it is okay for people to kill you and destroy your property...... wahala dey. If the Cameroon government gave the FGN warning about the potential for flooding BEFORE they released the excess water and the FGN did not warn the people and evacuate the area--serious wahala dey. |
In this day of DNA test everywhere, Nigerians are still doing "I am not the father"...."you are the father". Nigerians, una too funny |
From a Doctor: On of the best ways to keep your child safe in the car is to use age appropriate car safety devices until they 4feet 9inches (145cm) tall. I have seen children survive terrible road traffic accidents because they were properly restrained. One of the worse things you can do is to use an adult seat belt to restrain a child whose height is less than 145cm. I have seen a child who was decapitated by an adult seat belt because the shoulder part was an her neck! The lap belt part of the adult seat belt can also rupture the liver, spleen and intestines in children if they are involved in an accident. These injuries can also occur if you do not use the restraining belt on the child car seats properly. Always read the manual! you child is too precious! Also, always make sure all children are in a safe place (inside the car or house) before reversing your SUV/Jeep, or have an adult look out for you. Children are not tall enough to be seen in your rare view mirror. Can't tell you how many injured kids I have seen from back-up accidents. In 2014, all vehicles manufactured or used in the Us will have a rare view camera. Until then, take care of your precious cargo. |
bilms:Are you saying an armed robber who is caught should not be tried and convicted because 36 other armed robbery suspects where not caught, or have no evidence against them? I am always amazed at how ignorant Nigerians are about legal matters. I blame this on the fact that most Nigerians who are currently living have never experienced what it is to live under the rule of law. This is how the law works, you commit a crime---you get confronted with the evidence---you plead or go to trial---you get convicted/sentenced. "I am not the only one who has committed fraud/money laundering/rape/armed robbery etc," is not a valid legal defense. The only thing it can do is help you in the court of public opinion which is worth nada. Is Ibori being punished? Of course the answer is yes. He is being punished for his individual crime of breaking the law of the land and that is justice! |
A more useful data will be to look at what the State and Federal governments actually spend on capital and recurrent expenditures at the end of each fiscal year. To budget is one thing, To stick to the budget is another thing |
@ Prince onx This report is far beyond this man and his parents. We frequently see similar reports in the media about sexual deviant behavior from Nigerians. Whether these type of behavior is becoming more frequent or just more reported due to availability of the internet is debatable. We need to that asking ourselves what we are doing wrong in our families and society to passively or actively encourage these kind of behavior. If this incident occurred in Nigeria, nothing will happen. Self-control is a behavioral skill that is taught. In the old days, villages and communities actively taught these skills through rite of passage ceremonies for their youths. Who is doing the teaching these days and what are they teaching? Personally, I believe we do our youths and society at large big disservice by not actively talking about sexual issues and modelling good sexual behavior for them. |
@ Poster I am an infectious disease doctor. The information you have posted is very accurate and has been available since the late 1990. This information is used to make ALL HIV antibody testing kits from reliable manufacturers so that they routinely detect antibodies to HIV1 or 2 When we order a test for HIV screening this is what we write "HIV 1/HIV 2 antibody". The different subtypes or clades of HIV you mentioned N, M, O, P etc are mainly academic and have little significance when it comes to diagnosis and treatment. All HIV-antibody testing kits are made to be what we call "global kits" so they can detect all subtypes. The problem with blood supply and donation in Nigeria is not with the HIV strains but that the blood is screened with antibody-based kits instead of HIV- particle detecting kits. When someone first gets infected with any microorganism (including HIV) it takes about 6 weeks for them to form enough antibody for it to be detected by the lab test. We call this the "window period". It is because of this "window period" we ask all HIV-negative people to repeat their test in 6 to 12 weeks. If people who are in the "window period" donate blood, the antibody-based test will not detect this blood may contain HIV particles. There are test out their that can detect HIV-particles (DNA and RNA) in blood. They are not routinely used in Nigeria to screen donated blood because they are a lot more expensive. These are the preferred test for screening donated blood and are more accurate because they directly look for HIV particles in the blood. These HIV-particle detecting test are also the preferred test for screening babies under the age of 1 year whose mother's have HIV-infection. We prefer these test because mother's HIV-antibodies crosses the placenta into the baby in the last 3 months of pregnancy and the HIV-antibody based kits are not capable of telling us if any antibody found is being made by the mother or baby. Therefore we may wrongly say the baby has HIV-infection when is actually the mother's antibody in the baby's blood that is making the lab test show up as positive for HIV antibody. |
This is what happens to our children when we do not teach them to control their sexual urges. Instead we make silly excuses "you know he is a man; God made men that way; her breast was showing; look at the way she dressed" etc If you do not want this to be your child in future, teach him/her that they are human beings (not animals) with a special part of the brain (cerebral cortex) that God has given them to control their emotional and physiologic urges. |
BH is the current major symptom of the failing state called Nigeria especially the failure of our educational system. The country is going through chronic endemic violence and these bleep of security crises (Niger delta militant, kidnapping epidemic, epidemic of armed local militias, escalating armed robbery of individuals and financial institutions) is just the tip of the iceberg. And the government solution to this is to buy more weapons BH is just the latest addition to the crises and more will be added until our government fixes ALL our broken infrastructure with sound economic and educational policies. |
OBJ will be delivering a lecture at the 41st Convocation of UNN on education and national development. Nigerians don suffer O. Anyway, maybe the anti-education cabal prevented him form implementing these great ideas he will propose in his speech. Our leaders really believe we are fools. @#OccupyNigeria. Una go occupy this event. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/01/obasanjo-to-deliver-lecture-on-education-devt/ |

No matter what gene you have everybody can maintain an ideal weight. I have helped quite a few women loss the baby weight and keep it off by focusing on simple things. Sustainable weight loss can only be done through eating healthy food and drinks and exercising. Exercising without changing your diet will not work, results in frustration. Going on a diet where you have to force yourself to eat strange foods and drinks or taking a pill may lead to short term gains( looking hot at the wedding) but the weight will be back. Before making any changes in your diet write down every thing you eat and drink over 3 to5 days so you can spot your problem areas what you eat and how often you eat. If you want to lose weight 1. Your plate should be colorful at every meal (ie full of vegetables) including breakfast. The vegetables should be cooked crunchy and not soft so your body can spend a lot of energy digesting them. 2. Limit fruit intake to 1/2 of a medium size every other day. Fruits are sweet because they contain sugar (a type of carbohydrate). If you are overweight, your body will store any excess sugar (including that from fruit) as fat. 3. Stop drinking anything that is not water including malt, alcohol, soda(minerals), fruit juice, Ribena, gatorade, powerade etc. If it is not water, coffee or hot tea do not drink it. These contain at least 2 times the amount of sugar your body needs in one day. And remember you will also eat yam, rice, gari etc with these drinks adding sugar to more sugar. 4. The amount of rice, beans, gari, pounded yam etc you eat should not be more than the size of your palm. Bread, 2 slices a day tops. Eat only one of this food group a day. 5. Pick 2 to 3 days of the week when you will eat only plant based foods. 7. DO NOT EAT YOUR KIDS OR HUSBANDS LEFT OVER FOOD. 8. Use a side plate (not dinner)to eat and do not eat in front of the TV or computer. Drink a full glass of water before you eat any meal or snack. 9. Set reasonable weight goals and give yourself ONE treat when you achieve it. 10. Do not eat processed foods including breakfast cereals and noodles. If it comes in a box and is ready to eat in less than 10mins, waka pass. The body does not have to spend energy digesting these over processed foods. 11. when you see the words "desert" "honey", "frosted" or "sweetened" just waka pass. Do not be deceived, honey is a type of sugar. |
Vote Sanusi lamido Sanusi for President 2015. Intelligent, gracious, communicates effectively and very courageous. |
OUr demand should not just be for the price of petrol to go back to N65. Already, the legislators are already saying give them their N65 so we would not probe the real cause of our poverty; how they are bleeding the country dry. There is no need accepting N65 now without a permanent solution to our importing petrol, diesel etc. We need a permanent solution so our economy can grow. This protest not stop until 1. The government signs an MOU with labor that contains permanent solution to importing petrol. Building more refineries and repairing existing ones will create the kind of jobs we want for our children. All new refineries should be lead by private investors. 2. The gross waste of our resources by government must stop. This is the fundamental cause of our problems. All useless allowances (hardship, P.A, 5 to 10 cars/person, luxury house, traveling first class, N1billion for food and entertainment etc) should be discontinued permanently. The fleet of presidential jet should be sold. If we are too poor to afford subsidy, we cannot afford a fleet of jets. 3. EFCC must investigate and find the people who are collecting subsidy illegally and those who did not do the turn around maintenance of the refineries we paid for. These people must refund every kobo +/- go to jail. This is or opportunity to make meaningful changes in how we are governed. Make labor no fall our hand O! |
Mrs. Minister does not get it. A few thousand buses cannot solve even the transportation problems that will come from removing the subsidy. You say government does not have money, yet the waste continues. The reason petrol is expensive in Nigeria is because it is IMPORTED. Keep the subsidy until you have done the following: 1. Repair our existing refineries to function at full capacity 2. Encourage investors to build new refineries with the promise that the day they begin production subsidy will be removed. 3. Eliminated the gross waste in government. The presidency cannot propose to spend billions of naira on food and entertainment and expect Nigerians to make this kind of sacrifice. If the executive and legislative arms of government do not collect their allowances (not salaries) for 2012, we would have enough money to subsidize petrol. |
From and infectious disease doctor: Shigella is a type of bacteria that causes diarrhea in humans. Most infections are self-limited but everyone is treated to prevent spread to other members of the household. People get shigella diarrhea or dysentery by eatnig contaminated food and water. Also by not washing your hands after defecating. Shigella is not transmitted through sexual intercourse. Staph is also not transmitted through sexual intercourse. Staph is suppose to be on your skin, penis and vagina. It is part of the human flora. If a man who is sexually active has pain when urinating, the infections that are most likely are gonorrhea and chlamydia. Chlamydia is the most common STI among young people who have sex. Others are Mycoplasma genitalium and trichonomas vaginalis. All are STI and can be easily treated with antibiotics. The bacteria Gonorrhea can be grow in the lab with a culture using a swab that has been used to swipe the opening of the penis. Chlamydia will not grow in a culture but lab test using DNA technology can identify this infection either in urine or a penile swab. This test is routinely available in developed countries and can also be used to detect gonorrhea. |
2012 Prophecies by Pastor E. A. Adeboye For Individuals: 1. He said many considered to be absolutely barren will be fruitful. 2. He said family histories will be rewritten, including an end to premature death. (Does this mean the health care sector will improve remarkably so people's diabetes and high blood pressure will be treated? If the government going to repair all the roads to premature death from motor vehicle accidents will not occur?) 3. He said desperate prayers will get quick reply this year. (Pray desperately that God will give us leaders with common sense who will stop stealing our money and giving it to the church) 4. He said some will experience massive transfer of wealth from the wicked to the just. (Why are Nigerian christains always looking for massive wealth? Is it not easier for the camel to go throught he eye of the needle than a rich man to enter heaven?) For Nigeria: 1. God says He has surprises both for His own and for the enemies of the church. 2. He said before this year ends, it will be said of Nigeria; all is well that ends well. (Is our president going to get a brain and liver transplant or are we getting a new president with better brains?) 3, He said we are to pray more for prominent Nigerians, so that those who see this year may see the next. (All our resources (money, time, spiritual powers) keep going towards protecting these prominent Nigerians. Who will pray for less prominent Nigerians so they will also see next year? PLease pray for the widows and orphans and all those "absolutely barren women who will become fruitful" so they will see next year. As you know pregnancy is a major killer of Nigerian women) International: 1. Daddy says there will be a lot of power transfer. 2. He said new phenomenon will startle scientists. 3. He said we are to pray against earth quakes of record magnitude, tsunamis of record proportion and massive hurricanes. if we pray they will be subdued. 4. The civil unrest that started last year, will begin to end this year. (, and new ones will occur) |
Although I was disappointed that she asked for foreign vacations and medical car, my intention was not to personalize this to Zik's wife because we should not make laws targeting specific individuals. The question is, should we use our resources to support the widows/wives of our ex-presidents? Should they be treated like civil servant---salary/allowances, official car, foreign vacations etc Can the country afford these packages for ex-presidents and their wives? |
Just read this interview given by Prof. Uche Azikiwe, the widow of She is complaining that the promise Yar Adua made to pay them their allowance and change their car every 5 years has not materialized. She will also like the group of widows to have 2 weeks paid vacation abroad and medical attention abroad. If the country continues to use most of it's petrol dollars.to cater for our leaders and ex-leaders, what are we going to use to develop the country. See article below Zik’s widow laments non-payment of stipends From Kassidy Uchendu, Nsukka Wednesday, December 28 , 2011 •Azikiwe Photo:The Sun Publishing More Stories on This Section ‘Y ar’Adua increased our stipend and approved cars for us to be changed after every five years, but up till now, not even the old stipend, was paid to us for the past two years and the cars are yet to be given to us.’ The failure to pay stipend to widows of the country’s deceased Heads of State can be classified as a dereliction on the part of whoever is responsible. This is especially so when the promise of the said stipend and renewable car gift, was made by a presidential fiat, courtesy of the former president, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. In this interview, Prof. Uche Azikiwe, widow of the first president of Nigeria and Governor-General, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Owelle of Onitsha, laments the non payment of stipend as well as provision of five yearly renewable car gift approved by Yar’Adua. She alleges that they have not received a dime from the Federal Government since 2009. Excerpts; Recently you cried out about the delay by the Federal Government in the completion of the mausoleum to immortalize your husband I have always said that I am a Christian and believe in God. I also believe that the Federal Government that started the project will one day complete it, because it is something that is worthy to be completed. Government is doing a lot of other things, otherwise to complete the mausoleum wouldn’t have been delayed. Any person coming to Nigeria would want to find the resting place of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. It is not a good intention for government to see it abandoned like that. From my investigation, I was also informed that almost every other year the government budgets for that mausoleum to be completed. My problem is that there is no work going on there. I hope that this time around it will not go like other years after announcing it and publishing in the newspapers and at the end, nothing will come out of it. I pray that there will be no more stories on that mausoleum as they have started. I also pray that the minister in charge who is a woman, Ama Pepple, that there should be a change of attitude to that mausoleum. I believe a woman will do exactly what her ministry presented to government. I sincerely beg the minister to see the project completed during her tenure. Let it not be like the old stories, women are usually more dedicated when it comes to issues of this nature, I believe that Pepple will ensure the mausoleum is completed and on time. Allowances to widows of late Presidents, heads of state Another thing I want to say is the allowances, allowances paid spouses of deceased Presidents and Heads of State. It is saddening that in 2010 we were not paid a dime, in 2008, Yar’Adua increased our allowances to be reviewed every five years. We were all happy, the six of us including Mrs. Yar’Adua now. But since 2008 of that presidential magnanimity till now, the cars are yet to be given to us. Our allowances were not paid in 2010 before we begin to think of our cars being renewed every five years. Information reaching us was that the National Assembly trimmed down the budget of the SGF because the affairs of spouses of decreased President and Heads of State is under the office of SGF. It is incredible and unbelievable that it is only the allowance of widows of dead Heads of State of this country was affected by the National Assembly’s trimming down of the SGF’s budget. We will apply and they will tell us there is no money, so, I hope National Assembly will rescind their decision. Let them spell out the stipend of spouses of former Heads of State. We are begging them and appealing to people who will reach them to help us to enable them pay us our stipends and also give us the cars.Yar’Adua approved. We applied, we wrote to him, few months later, he reviewed our allowances upwards with a car renewable every five years. Medical attention overseas We also requested for medical attention overseas, two weeks vacation abroad and a vehicle. He graciously approved a vehicle but since 2008 till 2011 we have not been given the vehicle, 2010 allowance not paid. I am begging on behalf of five others that National Assembly should do something to change our standard of living because, it is not easy to take care of the premises and other domestic issues affecting us. |
Your husband did not "cheat " on you. He attempted to rape another woman!!!!! That is a different kettle of fish. He needs to be in jail and will probably head there if he does not check himself and develop self-control. Who will he try to rape next time he is drinking, his child, househelp, sister etc. First, he should stop drinking since he does not have self-control. Secondly, he needs to apologize to the lady he tried to rape if he is really remorseful. |
Please talk to your father. If he gets infected with HIV guess who is going to provide care for him. 2 people I grew up with had to deal with caring for their old fathers who got sick with HIV/AIDS. One has died and left 2 infected wives behind. Thankfully, my other friend's mother was wise enough to take off a long time ago when different women were coming to rack her in the house. |
In these situations, telling the truth is the best way to go and his doctor can help explain to his wife that it is impossible to determine when and where he got hepatitis B virus from unless he had a test in the past that was negative. It is unlikely that his current sex partners infected him even if he got it through having sex. I will stress that most of the adults who have chronic hepatitis B infection got it when they were below the age of 5years. If you get infected as an adult and you have a normal immune system, the chance that you will become a chronic carrier in slim, about 10%. I usually tell my patients that their time is better spent facing this health problem that has the potential to make everyone in the family very sick including future children they may have than looking for who infected them because that is almost impossible. i will have to test their mother, siblings, playmates, all past sexual partners etc. His wife MUST be tested immediately and if negative given the hepatitis B vaccine to prevent her and their future children form getting infected. Below is a list of how hepatitis B virus is spread in no particular order: Transfusions of blood and blood products (not common in the United States) Direct contact with blood or body fluids(did he treat a friend's wound without gloves?) Sexual contact with an infected person Tattoo, pedicure etc with unclean needles or instruments Shared needles during drug use Shared personal items (such as toothbrushes, razors, and nail clippers) with an infected person (why we test siblings and house hold members) During childbirth if the mother is infected. |
It is almost impossible for him to find out who he got the hepatitis B virus from. It could be from his mother during his birth, from people he played with as children, blood/blood product transfusions, contaminated needles and any of his previous sexual partners. This virus is very infectious (ie can be easily transmitted) and particularly dangerous if you get it as a child. Most chronic carriers got the infection in childhood. 90% of adults with a normal immune system clear the acute infection and do not become chronic carriers. This is the reason developed countries routinely immunized all their children against hepatitis B with the first vaccine given within 24hours of birth. It is very contagious even from cuts in playground. Since this is his first test, he can repeat it 6months later to see if the test is still positive. If he is, then he definitely has chronic hepatitis B infection (about 10% of Nigerians are infected). The next thing to do will be to test his wife and children. If they are not infected now, they be immunized IMMEDIATELY so they do not get the infection from him. This virus is very CONTAGIOUS. If his wife is infected, any future children they have can be given the vaccine beginning at birth to protect the baby. The vaccine (given in 3 doses preferably with another vaccine called HBIG) is very effective in preventing mother-to-child transmission of the virus that occurs during child birth. Because all infected newborns look normal at birth and during childhood/adolescents, the only way to know if they are infected is to do the test (HBsAG, anti-HBs). Children who are infected are more likely to have chronic liver disease and liver cancer which does not show up until they are about 20 or 30 years old. For your friend, he should have his doctor do a liver function test and see if his liver is already showing signs of damage. Although he is at risk for chronic liver disease/failure and liver cancer, there are ways (viral drugs and interferon) to prevent chronic carriers from these complications. They are expensive and probably not available in Nigeria. Good luck. |
