EducationRe: 20 University Programs You Should Not Spend Money To Study In Nigeria by SIRANDREWS: 8:00pm On Mar 04, 2015
plaetton:
Op,
I don't know how to make this post without appearing rude and disrespectful, so you will have to forgive me in advance.

Once again, you post demonstrates in very clear terms that you, and infact, we Africans do not fully grasp the meaning and value of education.

I don't blame you personally too much. I blame our succession of brain dead and visionless leadership Since independence, who still haven't figured out that education is not about paper certificate to get job.
It is more about mental developement and refinement in order to release and harness the imaginative and infinite creative potential of the mind.
Every area of study is useful both to the learner and to the greater society. What would humanity be without all these academic disciplines?

The fact that we put all emphasis on paper certificates rather than real learning and hunger to learn more, is at the heart of our persistent underdevelopment.

The fact that we don't have trained archeologists and anthropologists in Nigerian to dig into our remote pasts are the reasons that many morons walk around calling themselves Israelites.

The fact that we don't have ancient historians and forensic geneticists, etc, is the reason that con men in bling bling attires sell us the crap that we are the ofsprings of a mythical white man called Noah who lived less than 6yrs ago, whereas, Yoruba culture, just to mention one, is more than 11,000 yrs old.

The fact that we don't have enough mental health scientists and sociologists is the reason we have a reported 23 million Nigerians suffering from undiagnosed and untreated various forms of mental illnesses.
The funny but sad irony of this situation is that many of these mentally ill citizens occupy positions of power and influence in our society.

So, it's not going to get better soon.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Barcanista Blackmail Ii: Friends And "Friends", Patriotism And "Malooism", by SIRANDREWS: 1:05pm On Feb 18, 2015
Barcanista, nobody is your friend - whether PDP or APC. Everyone's got a secret agenda and are just playing the script. If you wish 'change' for Your ethnic group, state or country, then go out there to make enough money for yourself to help people around you or whatever interests you.

All this whinning and trying to be accepted within PDP is fruitless. You can't be part of the inner circle anymore. Most will be weary of you!

I advice you to take a break away from these online brouhaha and go out there to make more money for yourself. You've got the craving, time and skills. Same goes for everyone out there.

Go and MAKE MONEY!!!
Christianity EtcRe: A Muslim, A Christian, A Jew, And An Atheist Walk Into A Café... by SIRANDREWS: 8:36pm On Feb 15, 2015
ooman:
A parable, by Atheist Republic contributor, Abbas Syed.

Four men are having tea in The Great Afterlife Café; one is a Muslim, one is a Christian, one is a Jew, and one is an atheist. The great Archangel Gabriel flies into the café and tells them, "God has been expecting you, please come along." The theists give the atheist a smug look as they all fly off together, mocking him relentlessly, telling him that he will not be getting any virgins, or delicious food, refreshing drinks, or even fresh air. Gabriel, with a sudden flick of his golden stick, orders all four men to stop and bow in preparation for God's appearance.

The three believers waste no time and get their foreheads to touch the surface of the great white cloud. Their eyes filled with tears, their hearts carried away with the sentiments for their Abrahamic God. "Yes, we were right! We were right!" they congratulate themselves. They feel something humungous rising up in front of them as the atheist, seeing what's coming, begins laughing. Suddenly, the entire cloud shakes so dramatically, it causes the believers to look up from their bow. Their joy and excitement suddenly fade as they discover that it was God's hammer causing the cloud-quake, and behold, Thor is the one, the almighty God!

Thor orders all the three believers to be thrown face-first into Hades because they believed in stories, and asks his personal assistant, Forseti, what should be done with the atheist. "Well," suggests Forseti, "I know that he did not believe in you, but at least he did not commit the sin of making up his own gods. Nevertheless, now that he has seen you and your power, he has become a true believer!"

And so, the atheist waves his hand to the believers who are undergoing the first stages of their torture as he enters paradise.

Time and again, the religious lobby argues the "uncertainty argument," emphasizing that they are safe whether a god exists or not and that if atheists are wrong about god, they'll be sent to hell. But clearly, they're only safe if there is a god and it happens to be the one god they follow. The whole religious lobby is nothing more than a house divided against itself.

WebmastersRe: The Reason Why Linda Ikeji's Blog Overtook Nairaland In Alexa Rankings by SIRANDREWS: 1:39pm On Feb 10, 2015
sMayor:
This thread is created as a result of the Linda Ikeji Blog Overtakes Nairaland In Alexa Traffic Ranking thread.
First off, we need to understand what parameters Alexa uses to rank websites:
Alexa.com doesn’t collect data from websites. It only uses a Toolbar installed on those who have chosen to install the Alexa Toolbar. Alexa rankings are determined from this toolbar alone. This means Alexa.com does not determine how a website is popular but what website is visited most by those who have the toolbar installed in their browser.
The question you should ask yourself is do you have the Toolbar installed? The answer is probably NO! This toolbar can only be installed in browsers like FireFox, Chrome etc. You cannot install this toolbar in most mobile browsers. So if you’re using OperaMini, UCWeb etc, you cannot install this browser – So, Alexa.com does not know that you’ve visited Nairaland.
I can estimate that not more 1% of Nairaland Traffic has this toolbar installed. Why? This Toolbar in installed by mostly Bloggers, Programmers, Web Developers and Other Geeky/Computer users because they know it’s significance.
The conclusion you can derive from this is that Those Who have the Alexa Toolbar installed in their browsers (not mobile) have visited LindaIkeji..com more than Nairaland.com
We can put this to a test. If all of you reading this post can install the toolbar which you can find Here. The tide will change and Nairaland will go back to it’s rightful position.
Softwares that Collect Website Data
Like I said earlier, Alexa DO NOT collect websites data but Google Analytics does. But it’s result is not made public unless a website owner releases its own traffic stats.
The only way you can know who’s visited most is to collect their traffic stats and compare!
Note: NL traffic is growing and it’s obvious. Look at threads like the Postponement of elections. It gathered more 30,000 views within 24 hours. I stand to be corrected but LindaIkeji’s Blog cannot command this traffic within 24 hours.
There you have it! This does not mean NL can’t do away with some other things. Things like Junk Comments on Front Page threads, Abuses, Tribalism, Lack of constructive arguments etc. These will drive some people away.
You can visit my blog at http://shawnmayor.com
Thanks
RomanceRe: Is It Approriate To Ask?: How Many Women/men Have You Slept With Before We Met? by SIRANDREWS: 11:50am On Feb 04, 2015
Timbuktou:
Young men, take note. This is a very relevant question. You should, as a matter of common sense, know how many diicks your love interest has accommodated. Find out how much of a cumbucket she is. That should determine how much value you place on her. Many of these girls have been doggeyed, train-wrecked, analled and are looking for one unsuspecting maga to sell their valueless good to, which could be you.

Only a foolish man will not consider his girlfriend's past sexcapades. God help you if your prick does not size/fit the poosy, you're finished. She then begins to cuckold you eternally. Be wise, young men. If you can ascertain that she's been the neighbourhood bike, contribute your quota and move on. Her parents should have taught her better.
Christianity EtcRe: 10 Religious Questions That Needed Answers. by SIRANDREWS: 8:23pm On Feb 01, 2015
onihaxy:
Religion questions that requires an answer.

1. In the days of our fore fathers where devil, obatala, ogun etc were been worshipped, their marriage always last long and couples lived together till death do them apart, how come people in this generation blames broken marriage as lack of christ/God/Allah in their marriages?.
You need to understand that successful marriages are not dependent on religion or who you worship but understanding. At that time, Male had their roles, female had theirs. There was nothing like feminism or wife complaining the husband isn't man enough. There was much more understanding then.

2. Deeperlife and mfm uses wool and condemns weavons, from the knowledge of chemistry, aren't both of them produced from synthetic fibres? And aren't they both classified as attachments?.
Also understand that the people who create these rules and doctrines aren't so intellectuals. Just some bunch of people who belief they've been empowered by God to keep people in check. In churches like this, if the head doesn't like this, the followers shouldn't also like it.

3. Some people preach against use of jewellery as a sin, is wedding ring not part of jewellery?, why is it not a sin?, if the use of wedding ring is backed up in the bible, where is the verse?.
Like i said earlier, these people aren't necessary scholars. and btw, most of these doctrines weren't created today - where we can open google and so some findings.

4. Christian denomination prevent members of their church from getting married to another church member. For instance, I loosed a girl I once loved so much because I attend winners and she attends deeper-life. Her parents said its either I join their church or I back-off their daughter. I simply used the second option. Like seriously, are we not calling on the same christ? Are we not praying through the same channel?. Is there any biblical backing against inter-church union?.
If you marry someone in your domination, the pastor would have more say in both your lives. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. It would easier to resolve conflicts when two of you follow the same doctrines. On the flip side, you're subjected to your pastors command. You're more of a sheep.

5. Why are atheists doing well in technology productions, doing well in medicals, engineering?, and so many inventions?. And the only invention we have in nigerian religion is only MIRACLES?.
People are doing well irrespective of their beliefs. but note that Atheists, don't rely on some mythical creature to get the job done. If they fail, they try again. They don't go crying to God on why their endeavours are failing. It isn't so bad to rely on God, but technology wouldn't have gone far if people relied on the some Holy books for development

6. Why are some crusade rallies filled with promises of healing the dead, healing the blind and cripples?, and in most cases, non of the promises would be fulfilled?.
If you want to sell, you must use the right words, have the right products and set-up the right store. If a crusade theme is just to "thank God", there wouldn't be attendees. But if you promise these things, people who have been going from place to place would come because they're looking for that place of breakthrough - just like alleged testimonies they've heard about how someone persisted and finally, he/she met his breakthrough.

Note: Their aren't Miracles. At least, none that i've witnessed or know anyone that has. It's all 'hearsay'.

7. why is that when we are sick and needed medical attention urgently, we never cared to ask if the doctor is a muslim or christian?, when applying for job, we never cared to know if the employer is an herbalist or babalawo?, but when it comes to religious forum, we are always violent at opposite religion? .
This is a property of Religion. But alas, it most times contradicts reality. When we're on our way to work, we do opposite of our religion.
It is just to tell you there's something wrong with religion.

8. Why is smoking and drinking beer a sin?, and yet, people who got employed by sona breweries and BAT rush to the church for testimony?. Is it God that provide the job of working/producing what he despised?.
There is nothing like Sin. It's just something an alleged Holy man told you to keep you in check. They don't want you to misbehave. People in cold environment smoke to relieve some burden. It's just reality

9. If those churches are really the temple of God filled with holy spirit?, how come boko haram are succeeding in bombing them?,
There isn't a place that is holy. At least, not on this Earth. If i have some level of influence or a good number of people, i can swindle them into believing it's a holy place. But alas, they don't do that because we've been deceived since were born.

10. Different men of God had been cursing and praying against boko-haram since time memorial. How come boko haram and insurgent still exist?.
This so called men of God are not but ordinary humans who are opportuned to influence some followers. Praying is a waste of time - Yes, i said it! You can get a job done without praying.
