#Fidelity Bank Plc, one of the country’s most diversified financial institutions has been adjudged the “Best Green Partner 2015” by the #Lagos State Government at the recently concluded 2016 Tree Planting Day. The organisers of the event said that Fidelity Bank was given the award in recognition of the Bank’s outstanding contributions towards the protection and improvement of the environment. Specifically, they said that the Bank which is the first Nigerian financial institution to win the award showed relentless support for initiatives aimed at identifying and promoting the preservation, protection and beautification of the environment.
Speaking at the event held at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Camp in Lagos, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, #Nnamdi Okonkwo, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to support the State’s laudable greening policy as it aligns strongly with the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) focus on conservation and environmental protection.
“Fidelity Bank works in collaboration with public institutions – state and local governments – to create and maintain green parks in chosen locations. The beautification of the Falomo Roundabout in #Lagos State, in partnership with the Lagos State Government, is a typical example of what the Bank seeks to achieve in this area,” he said. While promising to work with the State to create and maintain green parks in chosen locations Okonkwo noted that the Bank has successfully executed several beautification projects across the country. Some of these projects include Onikan, Milverton, Dopemu and Matori Roundabouts in Lagos State; RSUT in Rivers State, Rangers Avenue junction in Enugu State, Mbaise Road in Owerri, #Imo State, Abia Towers in Umuahia, KrikaSama Roundabout in Maiduguri, Borno State amongst others.
He also disclosed that the Bank supports environmental advocacy groups like the #Nigeria Conservative Foundation (NCF) in their advocacy programmes, one of which is the annual “Walk For Nature”, an annual event designed to create awareness about nature conservation and good environmental practices. “We also undertake green initiatives that assist the environment. In this regard, we have become the first, and perhaps, the only Bank in Nigeria that dispenses cash with recycled biodegradable cash bags instead of polyethylene bags used by others, which is destructive to the ecosystem.” Fidelity Bank also assents to relevant international Accords and Protocols aimed at promoting sustainability, like the Equator Principles.
In his keynote address themed, “Lend a Hand to Save Trees”, #Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, noted that planting of trees was crucial for the environment as trees provide oxygen, helps conserve energy, saves water, and prevents erosion among others. He disclosed that the state plans to plant 10 million trees by 2020. The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tunji Bello commended Fidelity for initiating the drive for a greener environment and called on other corporate bodies and public spirited individuals to join hands with the state to conserve nature and make Lagos an environmentally friendly place for all to live.

Lets meet you?
I am #Crown Obioha

How was growing up like?
Growing up was great. I have six siblings. It was a wonderful experience.
I grew up surrounded by love. We didn’t have so much; but we had so much love for one another.

How did God call you ?
I was called from the womb. My mum was told that she was carrying a prophet; that when I grow up whatever I tell her I saw in a dream would happen. But I began to get connected to the purpose of God for my life while at the university of Ibadan . It was then I got to understand what it actually meant to be born again because before then growing up, I had been conscious of God and feared God and had answered the alter call several times until I got to the university and got into the Pentecostals. I began to grow and really grew fast spiritually.

Can you narrate how it happen?

Then God began to open my heart up to my calling. One particular day he cause John 21:15-17 to jump into my spirit during Bible study. It came alive to me. I knew that was my purpose. To feed God’s Flock. And that was the beginning of several encounters and confirmations from spiritual leaders. In my final year in school as a campus Pastor of our fellowship in 2008,God told me he wanted me to prepare His people for the kingdom to come. To teach them how to live the kingdom life right now and here on earth.

How long have you been a Pastor?
I have been in pulpit ministry for almost a decade now.

Will you say being a Pastor is fulfilling for you ?
Yes, It’s been a glorious journey so far. God has been faithful.

If you weren’t called, what other job do you think you would be doing by now?

Hmmm, probably build a career in banking, then #business and eventually politics. I really would have loved to contribute to the development of our nation as a political leader. But guess I’m doing that from the pulpit today .

What are the challenges of building a church in #Nigeria?
The major challenge is the challenge produced by fakes. The fake ministers who have infiltrated our ranks in the body of Christ making it almost difficult to trust your brother. And making everyone skeptic about ministers. Yeah, that’s a big challenge but I know God would always set apart His servants from the fakes around.

Tell us why you called your church SureCity Church?
It’s called Surecity because the Bible said we have received a kingdom that can not be moved.(Heb. 12:28)

What is happening on the 27th?
We would be having our 3rd annual press camp. It’s a time when we gather together to be with our God to get rewired for greater works.


Which Pastors inspire you and why?
I admire a lot of pastors but pastor Brian Houston (of Hillsong church) Inspires me a lot. I love his innovation and boldness.
I also love Kenneth Hagin of blessed memory; he has the highest influence in my life and ministry.

What would be your advise for young Pastors?

Stay focused, stay on your assignment. Avoid competing with other ministers but seek to complement others because the body of Christ is not in a hold up, we are moving together in a convoy.

#Udoka Oguamanam aka #SLAM is back! In a recent interview the handsome dude who left to the UK at the peak of his musical career to get an M.Sc reveals a lot about him you never knew. He talks about his role models, shared his thoughts on the new crop of musicians running the music scene and what he is bringing back.

How did you get the name SLAM?
After every performance I would always get accolades and remarks like; that was slamming, you slammed it… and much more. So the name SLAM evolved

What inspired your genre of music?
The reaction it had on both me and the people around me. A nicely delivered RNB from JOE or JODECI would just set you into a whole new world of full liberation, love, joy and happiness.

Who are your role models?
Everyone that is inspirational to my growth. Those that showed me love- they teach me tenderness; those that hate me- they teach me caution; those that are indifferent- they teach me God’s reliance.

What is your assessment of the current crops of artistes?
The new crops of artist are very intelligent with a yearning to be a par with their international counterparts. They have basically given the people want they want and that is good music for the soul. Whether it is good beats, melodious songs or choruses, they have managed to get diverse corporate organisations to provide them with huge funds to sell their products or brands either through promotions or endorsements. There is nothing a brand likes than attracting a huge audience and followership.

Slam

How will you rate the music industry?
The industry is growing in numbers but declining in development: what I mean is that the industry is growing with an influx of musicians with little or no content therefore the staying power of produced songs are getting shorter and shorter by the year. This is easily seen in the recent releases form even our so called A-list artistes who churn out songs that don’t even last up to 3 months before it becomes stale and then the general public moves on to the next. The quest for huge commercial value is also a great contributor to the low content of the songs and these in turn result in the declining development of the industry. There are a lot of other things wrong with the industry and I would not sit on any side of the divide but would rather bring it to fore by sharing my opinion. 1, There are no record companies; only independent record labels where the artiste is the all-and-all in the whole music process. By PROCESS I mean: writing, payment for recording, promotion and advertising, public relations, distribution and lots more. All these are functions of a record company. 2, Record companies cannot thrive for now until basic infrastructures are put in place that would allow for easy penetration into non-urban regions and mitigate the impact of Piracy. 3, the online media which is supposed to address no 2, is not really tapped into here in the #Nigeria considering the rate of illiteracy and fear of operating in the digital world. Tell me, have you ever bought a song form an online site? The telecoms have noticed a gap in this market and are milking from this. 4, we don’t have respected AWARDS anymore that is why we clamour for foreign awards and think that we have achieved global relevance when we manage to get recognition at these awards.
This is slowly worsening the state of the industry but we don’t know. W e should be proud of our own.
5, The Infrastructure OR world-class venues with all the necessary stage effects to host a proper Music event is not available with all the money PMAN , COSON MSCN have taken from the industry. It’s a shame because the National Theatre which is supposed to be the hub for entertainment is used for all sorts of funny activities that don’t propagate the entertainment industry. Today South Africa and even Ghana boast of better structures and frameworks in terms of their music industries while we are just capitailising on the our large population and wonderful beats. Please I would like to stop before I let my emotions get the better part of me.

Did you go and get a Master’s Degree because one artiste was always boasting of being the only MC with an M.Sc
Oh not at all. I actually come from a family that holds Education in very high esteem. As you would see in my path: I had my First School leaving certificate from Our Lady’s of Apostles in Sabo Yaba; SSCE- FGC Wukari in Taraba State; B-ENG: FUTO; MSC: Northwest University London; 4years PR experience, 2 years integrated Marketing Communication experience with a Top Multinational.

Did you keep an eye on the industry while you were away?
Offcourse I did. Everything I envisaged the industry would be, I saw it unfold before my eyes and I wanted to be part of it. Don’t wanna be like Moses who lead his people and didn’t make it into the promise Land. Lols…I saw the likes of Nice, DBanj, Don Jazzy, who gave the industry a whole new look; bringing Freshness, SWAG and Finesse into the game. I would say they broke the monopolistic nature the industry had and now you have few records labels with strong Management. Seems ‘’Strong Management’’ is the way forward. I also started seeing the integration of Nollywood, Music industry and brands working together and it made me so very happy.

What should your fans be expecting from you that you are back on the scene?
First of all I want say that, I really have loyal fans and they have kept their loyalty and I truly appreciate them all. So wherever and whoever you are listening to my sound, you share a part of my World because Music is my World. It’s been years since I dropped an album. So, I would be dropping my last Album Next year and moving into other areas of my life that I need to satisfy. I have just released a single with titled SWEETER (lover’s rock) featuring Reggae maestro Rymzo. I have another single to drop in October title ‘’DESINGER’’- strictly a club banger and these songs caters for two different segments; the mature minds and the club heads.

Your song ‘Ibu Chineke’ still remain evergreen a decade after, did you know it was going to be this big when you recorded the song?
Apparently No! I never knew it would get that big but I always thank God for it. I remember looking for the right words, melody sound. I also recall at the time Paulplay and I fell apart and I was alone struggling with my passion. I thought ‘’Paging you’’ would be the track but God has his own plans. I want to thank Kennis Music for the love and support (financial, emotional). Please allow me say a Big thank you to Uzodimma Opkeshi- Director/ Cinematographer, George Nathaniel- Music Producer who currently worked with PSquare on their Double Trouble Album, Phyno, JMartins and lots more. Foster Zeeno and Dan jiggy for the mixing and Mastering work. And most especially my FANS!!!

You started your career with a group; will your fans get a collabo between you and Paul Play?
Right now, I cannot say but am sure I have heard this question over a zillion times. All I know for now is that I am working on my last album. If our fans want a collabo from us, am sure we would work something out.

You once had a close shave with death, what did that experience teach you?
PRAYER is the key. The lord is our refuge and fortress in all times

How do you joggle your official duties and doing music?
Hmmm. That is a tough one. I guess am just glad I have a supportive Boss.

What’s the difference between Udoka Oguamanam and SLAM
Like a Gemini, I have two personalities: Udoka Oguamanam- One very serious minded individual who likes to study, result driven, dedicated and full of enthusiasm but SLAM- Is just a HAPPY GUY

Lastly, how do you relax?
I like to chill at AFRIVILLE, sipping fine wine and listening to good Music in the company of very sound minds. I also like Watching Movies (comedy, adventure and suspense) and reading good novels

Labour Gives FG 3 Days To Reverse Fuel Pump Price To N86.50K Or Face The Grounding Of The Whole Country
Now the labour unions have risen to the occasion just like they did in 2012 the #Nigerian Labour Congress, #NLC has demanded that the Federal Government reverse the pump price back to N86.50k or risk grounding the whole country by Wednesday, 18th May, 2016.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, #Trade Union Congress (#TUC) President, Comrade Bobboi Kaigama, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of #Nigeria (PENGASSEN) Francis Johnson and Chairman of Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LACSCO), Dr Dipo Fashina, insisted that organised labour would go ahead with the planned nationwide strike should government fail to reverse the pump price.

Wabba, who presented the position of labour, stated: “The emergency meeting debated extensively the implications of government’s unilateral increase in prices of petroleum products, noting government’s disinclination for consultation on issues of public interest and its obsession with protecting product marketers at the expense of the Nigerian public.

Sterling Bank distances self from slush deals
Sterling Bank Plc has clarified issues surrounding the intrusion of its head office in Lagos last week by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Sterling Bank affirmed that it did not hold account for “the public officer from the previous administration to which this matter (EFCC visit to the bank) has been linked either officially or otherwise”.

Some reports – most especially online, had linked last week investigative visit by the EFCC to the bank to the slush political dealings involving former #Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke, generally known as Diezanigate. EFCC had also been investigating diversion of arms funds, otherwise known as Dasukigate, named after the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (red).

Celebrities with deep pockets who could afford a flight ticket and an accommodation in Dubai made their way to the venue to be counted among the Balogun’s friends and well-wishers.The wedding ceremony cost the Baloguns N30m.

I must say that #Linda Ikeji is the most bashed blogger in Africa. Every single major story she breaks, she gets bashed by trolls on social media who think she is nothing but a merchant of bad news. This you could say is an occupational hazard but how come she is the only one celebrities love to hate?

I remember the name calling she got after breaking the story on #Richard Mofe Damijo’s mansion which she reported he built while serving as a Commission in Delta State. Still very fresh in our mind is the Wiz Kid quit notice story that also got her names like “stinking pussy”. The Wiz Kid story made majority of Wiz Kid’s fans to go after the life of Linda Ikeji.
