There have been interesting events in the political terrain in the past few weeks, but the one that has gained unnecessary attention was this allegation by Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, presidential flag-bearer of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) that the president, Mohammadu Buhari and his family owned shares in Etisalat and Keystone Bank. He also called for probe into the substantial shares in Etisalat now known as 9mobile which has an estimated $2b (about N727b at 360 per dollar) of its estimated $20b global net worth.



No doubt, all that have transpired in the political circles do not spring any surprise to many a political watcher, because we know it is all politics, going by the fact that 2019 elections are just few weeks away and this has elicited desperations from desperate politicians. However, the masses, nay the electorate will end up getting more confused as a direct product of spurious allegations like the aforementioned.

Luckily, a group of investors in Lagos have put things in the right perspectives, declaring that the sale of the two companies followed due processes with the involvements of industry regulators. They affirmed that neither President Muhammadu Buhari nor his family members owned shares in either Etisalat or Keystone Bank.

The above explanation should have put paid to further grumbling over who owns either 9mobile or Keystone Bank.

But it is so unfortunate that Nigerian politics have been reduced to this appalling dimension where an aspiring leader or leaders would leave issue-based discussions and campaigns to embark on mud-slinging and false claims. We as Nigerians expect our politicians to tell us what they have in stock for us when they claim the mantle of leadership, instead of beating about the bush just to hoodwink us.

In recent times, careless talks and spurious allegations have had telling effects on businesses, Nigerians and it is high time we exercised restraints to save the nation. Are our youths truly lazy? Succumbing to the carrots dangled by these politicians and helping them to spread their lies, peddling unfounded stories? Nigerian youths, this is a clarion call to put on your thinking caps ahead of the election.

In a saner clime, the miraculous transformation experienced by Keystone Bank which was almost a dying entity a few years ago, would have attracted kudos and commendations from both the general public and politicians alike. US planemaker Boeing on Friday said it had agreed deals worth an overall $9.3 billion to sell 50 jets to Nigeria’s Green Air and 30 to Saudi carrier flyadeal.



The company lauded the Nigeria accord, which includes a further 50 options, as the largest signed to date in Africa.

As with the Saudi deal, the Nigerians are purchasing single-aisle 737 MAX planes.

“While flyadeal has been operating new Airbus A320s, the airline says it has selected the 737 MAX for the future,” Boeing said in a statement.

The firm noted its first deliveries to Saudi Arabia were in 1945, as those DC-3 aircraft “gave birth to commercial air travel in the kingdom”.

Flyeadeal is a subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Airlines and flies to a range of domestic destinations across the kingdom.

Boeing quoted the director general of Saudi Arabian Airlines, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, as saying: “The demand for air transport services in the domestic market of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has grown exponentially,” adding flyadeal had ambitions eventually to “cover new markets outside of Saudi Arabia”.

The flyadeal is for the 189-seater 737 MAX 8, whose operating costs Boeing said were eight percent lower than the carrier’s current fleet of Airbus A320s.

If all the purchase options are exercised, the two deals unveiled Friday will be worth around $17.6 billion at list prices.

Green Airways owner Babawande Afolabi said the Nigerian end of the deal was a strong sign of growing African entrepreneurial dynamism and resilience.

Ecobank Nigeria Plc is in hot soup as a businessman, Mr. Linus Ukachukwu has accused the bank of forging documents to open an account for his company, Lingo Nigeria Limited, without his consent.

The businessman lamented that; “It is very unfortunate that banks no longer for the real business now, but chroming. We bought N50 million shares from Diamond Bank in 2004 and since then we had not collected any dividends.

“Last year, we went for the dividends, only to discover that the dividends were being collected by Ecobank. Upon further enquiry, we discovered that the payments had not been made into our accounts, we approached the Bank for the payment but they were dribbling us.”

“Finally we went to court to challenge the matter, during the process, the Bank came with documents in their defense. Unfortunately for the bank, all the documents they presented were forged and cloned.”

“Presently we have reported them to the EFCC and to the police for forgery. The dividends we are expecting is above what we invested, about N120 million Naira. We want Eco Bank to pay us those dividends and pay N1 billion damages for forging our documents.”

He added that the case has been filed at the Lagos High Court. According to the petition to the EFCC and the Police, by his solicitors, Felix Dumebi and Company, the documents for the account opening for Lingo Nigeria Limited, were all fake.

Video: Union Bank Relationship Manager Steals Customer’s N8.8Million in Abuja. A case of financial fraud involving one Mrs. Sally Dagun, the relationship manager of Union Bank, Dede, Abuja, has been reported to us.



It was alleged that Mrs. Dagun, stole the sum of N8.8Million from one Mr. Mansur RIMI, a customer of Union Bank in Abuja. According Mr. Mansur, he discovered his money was missing from his account with Union bank, he immediately summoned Mrs. Dagun, his account officer, over.

During the interrogation, Mrs. Dagun, who later got to discover that his invitation was in connection with the missing fund, decided to confess, saying that she has been stealing his money since September, 2017, adding that the total amount she withdrew from Mr. Mansur’s account from last year till date is N8.8Million.

It was also gathered that Mrs. Dagun, apart from being the Relationship Manager at Union Bank, Dede, she is happily married to a pastor of an undisclosed church, having three kids with him.

British authorities have briefed the Nigerian government about the temporary travel document they are about to issue to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to NAN, a top official of the ministry of foreign affairs, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Biafra leader holds citizenship of Nigeria and UK.
He reportedly said the British authorities told Nigeria that they had no ulterior motive.
Radio Biafra had posted a video where Kanu was seen observing religious rites in Israel.
The IPOB leader, who was sighted in Israel last week, had pledged to return to Nigeria soon.

With the shocking vaporisation, last week, of the second term ambition of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who was embarrassingly defeated in the Lagos State governorship primary held Tuesday, October 2nd, by political newbie, Babajide Sanwoolu; and the consequent change in the political dynamics of the state, a number of dreams and aspirations have become stillborn. And popular broadcaster turned politician, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, comes to mind.

For long, her friends had told those within earshot that she is the anointed deputy governor in the next dispensation. Abike, who spent three consecutive terms in the House of Representatives, had fancied her chances of eventually becoming the first female governor of Lagos State given her closeness to the Lord of the Manor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the rotation of power among the five administrative divisions that make up Lagos namely Badagry, Ikorodu, Epe, Lagos Island and Ikeja. Tinubu emerged from Ikeja; Babatunde Raji Fashola represented Lagos Island while Ambode represents Epe.

The thinking, among other variables, is that it would be the turn of Ikorodu by 2023. However, as the saying goes, 24hours is a long time in politics. Those close to the Ikorodu-born politician said she thought she would be made deputy governor preparatory to succeeding her boss. But a recent fallout with Tinubu may have foreclosed that ambition.

We gathered that though Abike has mended fences with her godfather, and has lobbied and reached out to powerbrokers within the party, it seems she is no longer in contention for the deputy governorship slot which may have been ceded to Dr Obafemi Hamzat who stepped down his ambition for Sanwoolu. Hamzat, a former Commissioner for Works, is expected to be announced as Sanwoolu’s running mate in the next few days apparently to compensate the Justice Forum which he represents and to add grit and gravitas to the APC governorship ticket.
